Donald Trump will nominate Christopher A. Wray as the new director of the FBI, the president tweeted Wednesday morning. Here's Wray's bio from law-firm King & Spalding, where he's a partner.

  • ISIS is taking credit for Wednesday attacks on the Iranian parliament and Ayatollah Khomeini's mausoleum in Iran's capital that have killed at least 12 people and "injured many more," according to the BBC. "Gunmen armed with Kalashnikovs entered the parliament on Wednesday morning. Images from the scene showed a major security operation as forces surrounded the building. Heavy gunfire could be heard. … Speaker Ali Larijani downplayed the events, describing it as a 'minor issue.'"
  • Attorney General Jeff Sessions is warning against the "sextortion" of America's children, a term I've also seen show up recently in federal legislation. Consider this an early warning of impending moral panic. And speaking of moral panics: "Human trafficking: as easy as ordering a pizza," according to U.S. Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio).
  • A federal court ruled against efforts to dismantle Connecticut's complicated and anti-competitive liquor-pricing regulations.
  • A woman is on trial in Massachusetts for allegedly bullying her boyfriend to suicide.
  • "An ICE detainer is not an order of the court," said Michigan's Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon, whose department will not comply with Immigration and Customs and Enforcement (ICE) requests to detain jail inmates beyond court-ordered releases dates. "You cannot hold a person based upon what ICE said. It's not a court. We're not a probable cause detention facility. Everybody that is committed to the jail is there upon the order of the court."
  • Is Trump violating the First Amendment by blocking people on Twitter?
  • Meanwhile, across the ocean:

I'm clear: if human rights laws get in the way of tackling extremism and terrorism, we will change those laws to keep British people safe. pic.twitter.com/8EfUJYUDMK

Donald Trump will nominate Christopher A. Wray as the new director of the FBI...

He can finally get revenge on Kong for what it did to his mother.

    1. Rufus The Monocled   8 years ago

      Hello.

      Suck my dick Teresa.

    2. Atlas Slugged   8 years ago

Trump could have also nominated someone with the surname of Lange or Watts then as well...

      1. Greg Loves His Woodchipper   8 years ago

Artie died just before his chance to make history. At least Lou Reed is still an option.

        1. Greg Loves His Woodchipper   8 years ago

And I'm not sure why I had a brain fart and thought for a second that Artie is no longer with us, but it looks great next to the Lou Reed joke at least 😉

          1. mad.casual   8 years ago

And I'm not sure why I had a brain fart and thought for a second that Artie is no longer with us,

I remember hearing about/reading; On January 2, 2010, Lange attempted suicide for the second time at his home by drinking bleach, slitting his wrists, and stabbing himself in the abdomen nine times with a 13-inch kitchen knife.

Considering that was attempt No. 2(,3,4-12?), I could understand if conspiracy theories existed for every day he's lived since.

    3. gaoxiaen   8 years ago

      Trump to tap... hehe.

  2. Bee Tagger   8 years ago

Donald Trump will nominate Christopher A. Wray

    who, wray?

  3. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Is Trump violating the First Amendment by blocking people on Twitter?

We do need concrete evidence he's violating our rights so, sure, why not.

  4. Bee Tagger   8 years ago

Is Trump violating the First Amendment by blocking people on Twitter?

Let's say it it... then what?

    1. damikesc   8 years ago

Hey, if Twitter block lists become unconstitutional, Twitter might become a lot more fun.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

        NATIONALIZE IT.

    2. Rhywun   8 years ago

      WaPo;DR

I'm going to guess they answered "yes" which translated to reality would be "no".

      1. Zeb   8 years ago

It looks like they answered "probably not".

        1. Rhywun   8 years ago

Well, at least they got the idea floated out there for the hive mind to pick up and run with.

        1. Rhywun   8 years ago

Aw, they snuck in someone sensible? In that case...

I find it hard to believe that anyone would consider Twitter to be an organ of the government.

  5. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

I'm clear: if human rights laws get in the way of tackling extremism and terrorism, we will change those laws to keep British people safe.

This is unbelievable. The Brits have rights left?

    1. Zeb   8 years ago

They have "human rights laws" anyway.

    2. loveconstitution1789   8 years ago

Hopefully they have lefts left too.

    3. Mickey Rat   8 years ago

Whether or not one agrees with this depends on whether the "human rights" law in question protects negative liberties or conveys positive rights.

    4. gaoxiaen   8 years ago

      -1 Magna Carta

Workplace violence. Iranian OSHA is on it.

A federal court ruled against efforts to dismantle Connecticut's complicated and anti-competitive liquor-pricing regulations.

    But they're nutmegging any sense!

    1. MikeT1986   8 years ago

It's vitally important we protect the terrible small package stores, I really love getting a side of cold disdain and icy judgement from the locals. The dust on everything really enhances the inflated prices and deflated selection.

  10. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Consider this an early warning of impending moral panic.

So we're just dropping focus on the clown problem without any resolution?

    1. PurityDiluting   8 years ago

Thirty minutes or the congressman's half and half is free.

Given the government's propensity to bastardize the meaning of words --- it might well be.

After all, a kiss on the cheek is now the same thing as rape at college...

Those people are super close to considering shaking hands domineering paternalistic behavior.

Jeff Sessions is quickly moving toward the John McCain level of sanity.

    1. loveconstitution1789   8 years ago

Until Jeff Sessions advocates torturing Jihad POWs, get the USA involved in every combat action possible, and says he's a Maverick when he's actually a Democrat- Sessions has some wiggle room.

Cheney. I just threw up a little.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is warning against the "sextortion" of America's children...

  18. Aloysious   8 years ago

.The real threat: that dude in the picture walking and looking down at his phone.

Distracted walking is just as dangerous as distracted driving, if not worse.

    1. Rich   8 years ago

At least with a phone walker you don't have to honk to alert xi to the light having turned green.

    2. Rhywun   8 years ago

You possibly snark but that PSA is actually a thing in NY.

    Meanwhile across the ocean:
Looking to capitalize on his charisma and star power, California Gov. Jerry Brown sits down with Chinese President Xi Jinping to talk climate.

So, how is this not a violation of the Logan Act?

Trump represents the USA in negotiations with foreign powers.

Its different when Gov. Moonbeam speaks with countries trying to infiltrate our election process because....lefty reasons.

    1. Mickey Rat   8 years ago

Get a load of Mr. Law over here.

    1. loveconstitution1789   8 years ago

Mr. Law must have forgotten about detainers which are extra-judicial means of holding people in custody pending transfer to other LEAs.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Sounds like he's trying to get the feds to get a federal judge to sign a warrant. ICE is attempting to assert authority it doesn't have.

    1. Conchfritters   8 years ago

I've had a Craftsman mower for 20+ years and have never given it oil or a tune up. Now that Sear sold one of its better divisions to shitty Black and Decker, they have made it easy for me to avoid their stores altogether.

    2. loveconstitution1789   8 years ago

Yup. Make room for companies that actually make the required sales to stay in business.

I wonder why Kmart, sears, etc cannot compete with Amazon and Walmart? /S

      1. Palin's Buttplug   8 years ago

        Yes, competition happening.

But how will I know when America is Great Again instead of the shithole the Con Man depicted us as?

Did the Cheeto in Chief promise to keep those stores open? They've been tanking for 10-15 years now. The Kmart in our town (an abysmal place) closed back when Obumbles was at the helm. Big building left empty. The only staffing difference from when it was open to now was probably only 3 employees...it was a ghost town before...now it just has no products.

"An ICE detainer is not an order of the court," said Michigan's Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon

I'll bet the Wayne County jail is known as the "Napoleon Complex".

this is like the 5th comment that's made me chuckle out loud just now. well played this morning, folks

Lawyers had requested the case be dismissed on the grounds of right to free speech.

But a juvenile court judge ruled that encouraging suicide was not protected under the US constitution.

She seems like a Cunthausen by Proxy case, but I'm not sure why it isn't protected speech.

    1. Atlas Slugged   8 years ago

I have to admit that I'm a little torn here. I think she obviously intended violence here but free speech is sacrosanct. I think I have to begrudgingly would have to dismiss charges but hope beyond hope she falls down the steps in Georgetown (seen in the Exorcist) into a big pile of broken glass, brine, and mountain lions.

It's kinda like the whacko with a gun: If you're goning to have freedoms, occasionally someone is going to make you wonder if it's a good idea.
But it's like the market. It's not perfect, just as good as we can hope for when dealing with humans.

And today's nominees for 'we hope this wool covers your eyes' award, we have Etsy, Kickstarter, Mozilla, and Reddit, Y Combinator and Amazon.

"Tech companies to stage online protest for net neutrality"
    [...]
"On July 12, the companies and organizations are expected to change their websites to raise awareness of the FCC effort, which is aimed at deregulating the telecommunications and cable industries. Mozilla, for example, will change what users see on their screens when they open a new browser window.
At stake are the government's net neutrality rules, which prohibit Internet providers from blocking or slowing websites or charging them special fees in order for their content to be displayed to consumers."
    http://www.sfgate.com/business.....200764.php

It would help if we quit 'euphemizing' what is nothing other than price-fixing by the government, so lets get that out of the way; fuck 'net neutrality'
These folks are arguing to have their prices fixed by the government, which they can certainly do without any assistance from the government at all.
So, why are they wasting this time, you ask? Well, by having the government fix their (and EVERYONE ELSE'S) prices, they can put huge blocks in front of any innovators who might come along.
If anyone is fooled that they are doing this 'to help the little guy', well, the deal on that bridge is not gonna last long.

    1. Rhywun   8 years ago

Heard about this. What a bunch of lying shitweasels.
