Transparent

Transparent, Amazon's original series about divorced, 70-year-old father-of-three Maura Pfefferman (Arrested Development's Jeffrey Tambor) coming out late in life as a transgender woman, debuted its third season last fall as trans issues hit the national political spotlight in an unprecedented way. But the Emmy-winning comedic drama is more about personal struggles.
Those struggles range from Maura's decision to undergo gender reassignment surgery and its effect on her girlfriend (Angelica Huston) to her neurotic adult children's own tempestuous romantic relationships—including son Josh's fling with a trans woman and daughter Amy's foray into BDSM. A New York Times reviewer described this season's main themes as "intersectionality, religion, and death"; the emotional action, as it should be, is focused on personal and spiritual concerns, not politics.
