Hillary Clinton: 'This Is Painful, and It Will Be For a Long Time.'
Clinton gives her concession speech, and the Democrats face a reckoning.

In her late-morning concession speech, Hillary Clinton congratulated Donald Trump on his victory while frankly confessing her own disappointment.
"I know how disappointed you feel because I feel it too," she told her supporters. "This is painful, and it will be for a long time."
Clinton urged her followers to give Trump a chance and keep an open mind about his intentions.
"We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought," she said. "But I still believe in America and I always will."
She also advised young women to remain hopeful that a female president will indeed be elected one day—perhaps sooner than they expect.
"To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams," she said.
Good on Clinton for being as gracious in defeat as Trump was in victory. That said, the Democratic Party is clearly in for a reckoning—the reckoning that many in the media thought the Republican Party would be facing the morning after Election Day. As Jim Newell writes in Slate:
The party establishment made a grievous mistake rallying around Hillary Clinton. It wasn't just a lack of recent political seasoning. She was a bad candidate, with no message beyond heckling the opposite sideline. She was a total misfit for both the politics of 2016 and the energy of the Democratic Party as currently constituted. She could not escape her baggage, and she must own that failure herself.
Theoretically smart people in the Democratic Party should have known that. And yet they worked giddily to clear the field for her. Every power-hungry young Democrat fresh out of law school, every rising lawmaker, every old friend of the Clintons wanted a piece of the action. This was their ride up the power chain. The whole edifice was hollow, built atop the same unearned sense of inevitability that surrounded Clinton in 2008, and it collapsed, just as it collapsed in 2008, only a little later in the calendar. The voters of the party got taken for a ride by the people who controlled it, the ones who promised they had everything figured out and sneeringly dismissed anyone who suggested otherwise. They promised that Hillary Clinton had a lock on the Electoral College. These people didn't know what they were talking about, and too many of us in the media thought they did.
Clinton also deserves blame for helping the Obama administration to grow the powers of the office of the presidency—powers that Trump will now be free to make use of. (That's one big reason many young people were reluctant to support her, in fact.) In any case, it's time for liberals to re-join libertarian efforts to constrain the federal government.

Carly Fiorina 2020!
"To all the little girls..." see you on Epstein's island next week.
I lol'd.........hard.
All the little girls will be just fine, as long as they don't troll the net abusing any of our nation's laws. I have been saying for some time now that after the inauguration, the new administration will do what needs to be done to enact the will of the people and curtail, with whatever means necessary, some of the "free speech" fouling the air of our great cities and our electronic lines. Surely no one here would dare to defend the outrageous "First Amendment dissent" of a single, isolated judge in America's leading criminal "satire" case? See the documentation at:
http://raphaelgolbtrial.wordpress.com/
Who is this guy? Calling him a broken record would insult broken records.
Thank you for joining my anti-Troll campaign. As I have been saying for some time, the good citizens of our great nation have had enough of the "free speech" baloney. Appropriate measures will be taken to reclaim the Net from recalcitrant "parodists." We have agencies to enforce our laws and enforce them they will.
Oh, great. A genuine authoritarian.
Who is this guy? Calling him a broken record would insult broken records.
Irony.
Whoa. That was kinda appropriate.
A deja vu is usually a glitch in the Matrix. It happens when the squirrels change something.
Whoa.
The squirrels are not without a sense of irony.
A deja vu is usually a glitch in the Matrix. It happens when the squirrels change something.
Whoa.
Maybe a short summary of your case would get more attention than the appearance of a work at home/ car/ money thing. I clicked on it. I started to read it, but you should get to your point.Truly TL:DR.
If you can't get into the presidency, you can always fall back on gitting the presidency in you. Never doubt the power in the Oval Orafice
Nikki Haley 2020.
Maura Healy 2020!
fuck Maura Healy 2017!
She might have similar FBI problems soon.
That doesn't count! She's not a Democrat!
Deirdre McCloskey 2020. That'll confuse 'em.
LOL!!! Go Deirdre 🙂
Hey Rico, good job on the early morning post.
"Hillary Clinton: 'This Is Painful, and It Will Be For a Long Time"
Good. And don't even think about drugs to dull the pain, drugs are bad, mmkay? Take a tylenol.
Sugarfree had that as part of her acceptance speech.
yeah, getting boned in the ass usually is...
I'm trying to unimagine that.
So how are liberals going to help constrain the federal government exactly?
Deregulation?
Tax Reform?
Eliminate and downsize federal departments and agencies?
Get the Feds out of healthcare?
Cut spending and subsidies?
That's the list of things they will resist at all costs. The Democrats are the party of government.
Pretty much this. Unless you believe there aren't many Liberals left in the Democrat party, but the very idea of Liberalism is to grow Government so...I find the idea that anyone on the left would help deregulate laughable.
If anything, they're going to demand a Tyranny. It's the inevitable result when statists don't get their way. Don't take this to mean that I hate classical liberals, but the logical end result of their philosophy can do nothing but grow Government.
She's gone. She's really gone. What a glorious day for America.
There's always 2020.
Ding, dong, the witch is dead!
And yes, I have this playing on repeat.
Damn! You beat me to it!
Ding-Dong! The merry-o
Sing it high and sing it low
Let them know the wicked old witch is dead
Alot of activity at YouTube on this one:

Latest development in sweet, sweet schadenfreude: my FaceDerp friends are now making their profile pics solid black.
So, black face?
Because this is the Worst Day in American History?
They're comparing it to 9/11 andPearl Harbor, no joke.
They're comparing it to 9/11 andPearl Harbor, no joke.
no way! mine aren't there yet.
racist!
I've always thought shadenfreude was an unworthy human sentiment, but the zero-sum nature of politics makes progressive tears particularly delightful.
So salty!
They're joining ISIS?
Anarchists, huh? Cool.
profile pics of color?
*opera applause*
Awesome. I came here this morning hoping to hear about some super-salty honey-baked-ham tears, and you all are not disappointing.
She didn't mention Bill? Divorce, then marry Huma next?
So amongst the schaudenfreude, before we all start to get scared about what Trump will actually do in office, here's a scare for y'all.
Michelle Obama urged to run in 2020
She actually would have a good shot at the presidency. She'd get the black vote that turned out for her husband and the feminist vote that turned out for Hillary (they haven't started dying of old age just yet). She has no baggage beyond her stupid food program, but that's the kind of baggage the left loves. If she runs she'd probably win.
8 more years of the Obama's in the Whitehouse would be nearly as bad as 8 more years of the Clintons.
Yep, but Michelle doesn't have the blatant corruption and enemy building to knock her out of the running that clinton did.
She would no doubt be worse than her husband.
So all those Democrats who complained about Trump not having any experience are going toss Michelle out there?
She was in the Whitehouse for 8 years and she made children eat stuff they don't like. So there, you CIS shitlord!
#IMWITHWOOKIE
#LetTheWookieWin #RogueMichelle
#HRRRRRAAAAARRRRRRGGGHH
and she's got that whole Ashamed of America thing down pat...
Is anyone else even remotely bothered by the fact that a Presidential dynasty can now approach 16 years instead of 8? Apparently not.
Obviously it's a pretty huge difference in who actually holds the reins and all, but at the same time this level of power brokering is more or less why there were limits placed on the office at all.
I had this issue with Hillary running for President as well. Can't our first female President be someone who wasn't married to an ex-President? If that's the only way a woman can win, what exactly does that say?
Meh. Both Texas and Georgia have elected the wives of ineligible former governors. It didn't destroy them.
Plus the left is in love with her. Like I think they literally want to marry her.
They literally want to gra...wait.
Wait, indeed..
*wipes hands on pants*
That would be a perfect opportunity for Nikki Haley to run.
Is she eligible?
can we grab her pu....too soon?
Well she'll try to grab our purse strings. Might as well grab hers first.
She's old enough, has been living here long enough, and she was born in America.
But she's also a traitor to her gender or whatever.
It's going to hilarious when the first woman president turns out to be a Republican.
If Democrats want to win elections, they should stop focusing on "the first black..." or "the first woman..."
Ha! You made a funny. Divisiveness is all the Democrats have left.
Identity politics hatred and resentment is all they have left
More over if they want the first blank to be elected, they should stop having them harp on the fact that they're the first blank.
Thatcher, Golda Meir, and Angela Merkel didn't win by obsessing over their vaginas.
Isn't there something odd about feminist icons being women who achieved public fame simply because of the men they married? Isn't a woman drawing her identity from her husband the very essence of the "outmoded stereotype" of the role of women?
Say what you want about Sarah Palin; at least she did not win the Governship because she had been her husband's First Lady.
Exactly this. I would much prefer the first female President of the United States to be someone that achieved their position at least ostensibly on their own. Riding the coat tales of a powerful husband into office is the exact opposite of what I would want in a Commander in Chief.
And yes, while I generally dislike the hell out of Palin that is one example of what it could look like. Y'know, if they were governor of someplace that actually matters or that cares about who they elect into office. I don't think Alaska qualifies on either count.
Hillary is Imelda Marcos without the fashion sense
Jesus Christ, you'd think this election would have taught them the perils of nepotism, but they just don't learn.
If that actually happens then tbe Dems embrace morphing into a Peronista movement. The degenerency of American politics continues.
Since they've all seen Evita, but don't know anything else about the Perons, they would full on embrace the Peronista label.
I can't wait for his first SOTU. I hope he does it without prompters.
"The state of the union is strong, big-le(ague) strong."
I hope he doesn't do a SOTUaddress at all. Maybe just tweet out "everthing is kool".
Be like Thomas Jefferson and don't show up in Congress, just tweet the whole speech.
SOTU: Sad!
"The state of the union is luxurious, my fellow Americans."
Now Presidential family portraits won't be horrible to look at. There's that.
I said it back when the primaries ended. Bernie losing to Clinton was the best possible thing that could happen for Trump. Dems wouldn't have had to hold their nose to vote for Bernie, but Clinton had so much baggage you couldn't even see the woman behind it all. It'll be interesting if the Dems realize their internal corruption probably led to their defeat on the national stage.
Nope. Every op-ed I've seen and all my derpbook connections have every reason possible except looking at the party and the candidate. Mostly, apparently, hate ruled the day over kindness and intelligence and science, from what they're saying.
works for me...
All we are saying, is give hate a chance
Yeah, the consensus seems to be that there are still way more deplorable racist/sexists/whatever and the Left needs to double down on social justice bullying to bring them to heel.
I was hoping they'd have their 'libertarian moment' and realize that since they despise most of their fellow citizens, maybe they should just say 'to each their own' and instead and adopt a "leave everyone alone" platform in place of a communitarian one.
Obviously wishful thinking.
Good. Goooood.
Yess, Yeeesss, your tears sustain me! (read in Stewie Griffins voice)
This Is Painful, and It Will Be For a Long Time
Is she talking about the election results, or her Parkinson's Disease? Maybe both.
Nods / spasms vigorously.
The 90s are finally over!
*burns Duncan Sheik compact disc*
Wow, that is something I never thought I'd see, a Duncan Sheik reference.
Hillary's barely breathing
And she can't find the air
She don't know who she's kidding
Imagining you care, and she could stand here
Waiting a fool for another day
But she don't suppose it's worth the price
Worth the price, the price that she would pay
Thanks a lot, asshole, now i'll have that stuck in my head for the rest of the week.
Hmm. Same here.
Maybe this will help

"To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams," she said."
Yes, little girls, you can bomb poor people in far away places. You can burn them alive while you cackle and brag about it. Yes you can! You can call your fellow Americans deplorable and irredeemable. Yes you can! You can work hard to destroy the rule of law and the constitution, yes you can! You can sell favors to foreign despots, yes you can!
One positive thing about this election is that Hillary is done. She's done and she's not coming back. We won't have to put up with a Clinton running for President again for at least another 20 years.
Although I'm sure we will still see comments every day urging that she be investigated and indicted, because people care about justice and the rule of law, and are certainly not motivated by partisanship or personal hatred.
I'm really hoping the FBI will indict her now that she no longer will be their boss. They've got the evidence. Putting her on trial would certainly lead to a conviction.
They'll be in full CYA mode. The FBI and DOJ would be more concerned that a prosecution would disclose their own missteps and misdeeds in the investigation.
Could blame the administration pretty easily though, and those appointed who get switched out afterwards. 'We would have charged her if it weren't for the people that used to be in office'. Republicans will be so happy to get a win they won't call them out on waiting, and Dems will be too busy claiming there wasn't anything to see in the first place.
I doubt it, it would look like Trump is arresting dissidents and throwing them into Gulags. I mean, it's Trump, so god knows what that nutcase will do but either way you could expect a pardon no matter what at this stage of the game.
Yeah, I can see the spin coming already, but it's Trump like you said. If he cared how the mainstream press would spin things he would have never gotten elected.
There's also some question as to how chummy Trump and the Clinton's are in private, despite what you see on their televised appearances. It wouldn't shock me to discover that they are much closer than the public realizes, but my bet is that he's a lot more tight with Bill than his wife. And I think most casual observers would realize that Bill wouldn't exactly suffer if she were to disappear into jail, but ultimately she will skate unless there's an actual smoking gun in her emails.
Maybe, but doubtful. No way any of the Clintons are ever going to do any time. That's alright though; failing in their last chance to attain or regain power gets them where it really hurts and where it really counts.
One hopes that 2016 was the end of both the Clinton and the Bush dynasties.
I'm not optimistic about the man as president, but that is a fantastic start to his legacy. Two dynasties, two backroom political machines crushed.
1) Chelsea
2) George P.
What about Bill's illegitimate son?
not crushed yet
He'll be running in 2020 (D) after Bill welcomes him into the fold to get back into the cocktail circuit.
She should be investigated and indicted, if there's wrongdoing. What, exactly, is the basis for suggesting that Clinton should be exempt from prosecution from a crime that the hoi polloi are indicted for, and for the class of crime which she heartily supported indicting Snowden for despite his patriotic rather than self-interested intent?
If she broke the law, which seems extremely likely, she should be prosecuted. Period. Who gives a shit what motivates it if the charges are legitimate?
She wouldn't get convicted, possibly not even indicted by a grand jury, since sure to be some Democratic partisans on an jury.
Still, it would be a tiiiiny nudge back toward the rule of law.
The backlash wouldn't be worth it frankly.
In some article a while back about the Clinton emails I made a comment that Comey might be sitting on some evidence until the results of the election were known so that he could submit new evidence to a friendly DoJ that would actually indict. Just sayin'.
Although I'm sure we will still see comments every day urging that she be investigated and indicted, because people care about justice and the rule of law, and are certainly not motivated by partisanship or personal hatred.
And don't forget sexism, Tumblrina!
Watching the audience before the speech reminded me of a funeral. (Because Ding, Dong the Witch is Dead!)
Her concession speech was probably the best speech she has ever made.
Agreed.
Certainly the one I enjoyed the most.
Yep. Gracious and human. Who knew?
Yep, gracious and human. Who knew?
jinx, buying myself a coke
"Lady Gaga is in tears, Cher is in tears."
And I cannot stop laughing at the river of progressive tears.

And I cannot stop laughing.
Hysterical Over-Reaction Watch:
I Am a Gay Jew in Trump's America. And I Am Afraid for My Life.
I sure hope someone does a study around mid next year to gauge how many special snowflakes offed themselves upon Trump's victory.
his paranoia would flag him with mental professionals and likely cost him his 2A rights in Washington state after voters there passed Initiative 1491.
New York has something similar.
"I'm having violent dreams, please help me."
"We will help you by having the police confiscate your weapons."
Good grief, leftists almost overwhelmingly hate Jews and you're afraid of Trump?
But anonymous retards with frog icons say mean things about them on the internet.
Good grief, leftists almost overwhelmingly hate Jews and you're afraid of Trump?
This is what I don't get. For all the nuance about African Americans, Black Americans, L, G, B, T, and Q Americans, the left consistently lumps Jews both religiously and culturally in with whites and/or deplorables and will even beat both Jews and whites over the head with it.
David Duke would prefer to separate himself from the Jews. Cultural leftists would force and/or associate Jews with David Duke as being white and/or powerful.
Hmmm....maybe Paris, I hear it's a great place to be a gay Jew. Or Malmo? Amsterdam? So many options...
"Amsterdam? "
Amsterdam is perfectly normal, not sure what you think is going on there.
Amsterdam is perfectly normal, not sure what you think is going on there.
Not a thing! Not one damn thing.
Go be a gay Jew in a country progs tend to love - Sweden. Specifically Malmo, and let me know how that works out for you.
Shit, PZ beat me to it!
As usual, the fact that Trump's daughter converted in order to marry a Jew is not mentioned. He's an odd sort of anti-Semite, apparently.
Or the fact that he held a gay rainbow flag over his head during a speech.
If there's anyone who doesn't have to fear Trump, it's gay Jews.
But narrative, we must stick with the narrative!!
Two words: Pink Pistols.
Um Trump is the most pro gay GOP nominee in history. Yeah he hates Mexicans and Muslims but the idea that he is anti-gay is pure fabrications.
This is leftist collectivism at a whole new level. If you hate one protected class you by definition hate them all, they seem to think.
Every power-hungry young Democrat fresh out of law school, every rising lawmaker, every old friend of the Clintons wanted a piece of the action. This was their ride up the power chain.
he's talking about Ezra Klein
Klein is none of those things. He's just a sycophantic fop.
He had to go to two different UC schools to eke out a BA in poli-sci and was turned down when he applied to work on the UC Santa Cruz school newspaper.
Sad!
And it shows. Ezra Klein and MattY Voxsplaining to progressives is the saddest thing ever. I'm glad that guy gave them a good old fashioned savaging earlier in the week.
his sycophancy showed no bounds with that 15-minute tribute that came out a month ago where he described her big problem as "she listens too much".
but only to the echos inside her own head...
Its like when you get a reference call for your friend, "What's [X]'s biggest weakness?"
"She gets too into her work and cares too much about doing a great job."
"Re-join". Riiiiiiiiiight. I'm sure they'll get right on that, Robby.
her supporters were not liberal. they were progs and progs love them some unrestrained federal govt.
Power is the only thing the progs understand, and the only thing they lust for. Raw, unrestrained power.
UNLIMITED POWER!
The biggest fear now is that Democrats will now go full hardcore prog and be the Bernie/Warren party (some would say they are there now). But the Dems do not want to admit this but I think we will see that many of the Bernie followers in the rust belt states all the Dems thought were a lock went for Trump because of his protectionist stance. So what will the socialist wing of the democrats do now that they have a Republican president that is with them protectionism?
Any bidding on her speaking fees?
$25 honorarium and free lunch.
It's just a speech to the women's study group at the community college.
I'd probably spring for $50 just so I could point and laugh for a half hour.
Of course, I grew up in Arkansas, so I had an extra decade of Clintonism shoved down my throat. I'm extra-nauseated with them.
I want to welcome all the freshly-minted libertarians who had an epiphany this morning that government is a problem more than a solution, it's not racist to criticize the president, those crazy slave-owning white guys who came up with checks and balances were on to something, and war may not be such a great thing!
The anti war crowd: it's especially good to see you! You guys have been so out of sight for 8 years, you had me wondering about the rapture.
Looking forward to the next four years of your help, after which you will throw away your new-found principles faster than Weiner can delete his cellphone pics, and you'll line up to bow before your new overlord so long as he, she, or xe has a big D.
Boy I bet those Clinton Foundation donors feel like the investors for Springtime for Hitler right now.
Well, they still got their state department years. It wasn't a complete waste on investment.
OT, but did Christie get his money back for that weight loss surgery yet? His fat ass is wider than ever. He blocked half the fucking stage last night. Trump, for the love of all that is decent, put that fat fuck to cleaning the Whitehouse basement if you feel it's necessary, but keep that unsightly blob out of sight.
A friend was going on and on about how misogynist this nation was for not electing a woman for President on Facebook. I wrote, "If a "moderate" Republican woman won the GOP nomination for President, would you give her the same leeway that you did for Clinton?"
She went into full meltdown mode on my ass and honestly I was shocked because she's usually a calm rational person.
Just follow up with 'So then you really don't care about a woman being president, you're just a partisan hack? Thanks for your honesty.'
I almost did, but I didn't want to add to her pain.
Trump or Clinton winning isn't the optimal choice but I rarely let politics bother me this much. Overall I have a good life and yes I have to live in a country that is going overwhelming full on statist, but I still try to be positive.
It's pathetic to see people allow politics make them so infantile and ornery.
I almost did, but I didn't want to add to her pain.

And so squirrel infested...
"Carly Fiorina"
"Sarah Palin"
So American was NOT misogynist nor racist when it rejected a woman VP in 2008 for a ticket headed by a black man, but is both misogynist AND racist when it rejects a white woman in 2016.
Makes sense.
This.
Sexism is something only republicans do.
Should've voted for her in 2008 then, instead of another MAN.
I don't get it. The Left has effectively helped turn the Federal Government into a circus and then they shit their collective pants when America votes in a clown.
y'all want some more bread with those circuses?
They always do - from someone else's loaf.
They always do. From someone else's loaf.
Seems to me that the reason website is being relentlessly attacked for throwing the win to Trump.
Obama's nation-uniting speech is coming up. Any bets on the number of times he mentions himself?
Shit, I need a break. When's the weed article?
"Hillary Clinton: 'This Is Painful, and It Will Be For a Long Time.'"
Hey, it saved the rest of us from 4 years of pain from her.
A stich in time, saves nine.
That's not who they are.
From Twitter: photo of crowd gathering after Clinton's concession speech. Disappointed supporters wanted one last chance to say goodbye. Security informed them Clinton had already left by a back exit. Perfect denouement.
Fantastic. Not quite as good as my preferred solution of exiling her to the isle of Elba, but close enough for government work.
Screw exile, jail, or indictment. You really want to hurt the Clintons? Audit their foundation and make them disgorge any illicit gains.
Hillary might be able to do two years in Club Fed. Hell, it'd probably make her some sort of Mandela-like martyr to the idiot Left. She won't be able to do two years of being broke though.
I like that. I like it very much!
I hear there's a Villa on the north side of Cuba she could be exiled to. Guards are already there for her protection so no SS detail required.
I wonder if Obama can delcare martial law before January?
No.
Not sure if this is what you are referring to, but I do recall in 2008 quite a few progs were insistent that Booosh was going to declare martial law and not hand over power to Obama. They were super serious about it too, although I couldn't get anyone to wager on it.
Obama, like Bush, has a severe case of senioritis. He's probably already packed and ready to move out.
"She also advised young women to remain hopeful that a female president will indeed be elected one day?perhaps sooner than they expect.
""To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams," she said."
"And therefore," Clinton added, "I urge you to support Janice Rogers Brown for President, or Chief Justice."
Just kidding.
Look, if your "dreams" involve marrying a powerful man and riding his coattails to political office, maybe you should aim higher.
I think I saw peak prog retard on my feed.
An anti-2nd amendment prog openly talking about the possibility of getting ready for an armed revolution to defend from a tyrant... hahaha
He didn't even mention the 2nd amendment because I don't think he realizes the inconsistency in his line of thinking. You can't make this stuff up
I highly doubt that.
That is some jaw-droppingly dense derp you managed to find there. Derpetologist will have to catalog that one for posterity.
Yeah, this lack of alt-text is excruciating.
Seconded.
*applies ice pack*
And it's all your damned fault, Hillary. Losing this election was not something that happened to you. It was because of actions you took. Sooner or later, being a compulsive liar, crook, and criminal does have to catch up with you and we all have to be thankful for the fact that it pulled you away from the most powerful seat in the world.
Donald Trump is a despicable human being and you lost to him because you are worse. There weren't many people who could lose to an obvious demagogue, but damn did you manage to pull it off in a spectacular way.
Excellent article.
This election was a referendum on elitism, and Hillary Clinton having a 40 year history of using public office to enrich herself and her family didn't help the Democrats one bit.
I love it that Hillary Clinton was rejected because she made a mockery of the rule of law through her misuse of her position as Secretary of State--but the truth is it was more than that.
The fact is that the progressives and social justice warriors who run the Democratic party are actively demonizing middle class, blue collar, whites--and that's their core constituency!
Here's a prime example of the thinking I'm talking about from Salon this morning:
"It's been exhaustively established that the majority of white men in this country are consumed with resentment at being expected to treat women and racial minorities as equals".
----"The Misogyny Apocalypse
http://tinyurl.com/q8ee85g
The Democrats cannot demonize their own core constituency and expect to win elections--that kind of thinking and rhetoric just chased the white, blue collar, middle class out of Democratic party and into the waiting arms of Donald Trump.
A candidate with less baggage won't make much difference if the progressives in the Democratic Party leadership continue to demonize their own core constituency.
The problem with social justice warriors is that eventually they run out of other people to demonize.
"The fact is that the progressives and social justice warriors who run the Democratic party are actively demonizing middle class, blue collar, whites--and that's their core constituency!"
You hit it right on the nail. Even this morning after her lost, many of my Progressive friends were ripping on these people without any hint of irony. Their elitism and their social justice crusade will make them become like the UK's Labour Party during the 1980's and early 1990's: almost irrelevant from political process.
I've got nothing against blacks, LGBTQI, Muslims, environmentalists, women, or illegal aliens. Hell, I almost converted to Islam to get married, I think of myself as a free-market environmentalist, and I lived in southern Mexico for more than a year.
But the progressive leadership of the Democratic party has turned it into an exclusive club catering to Black Lives Matter, LGBTQI, radical environmentalists, feminists, Muslims, and illegal alien interests. If you're not one of those (and not a libertarian), then why should you vote for the Democratic party?
And more than 80% of Americans are none of the above.
Hell, I almost converted to Islam
Given some of the Iranian immigrants I've known, I wouldn't blame you.
^ Yep.
Because you're supposed to be more concerned with the interests of purported victims than you are with the interests of yourself and your family. Don't forget, you need to atone for your membership in the white people category of humanity. That's why you're supposed to vote for Democrats.
The other problem is that is they will never realize they even have any sort of problem.
Projection is all they know. And frank introspection is about as foreign and upsetting a concept to them as the idea that hard work can undo the economic inequality they love to complain about.
This was written about Reagan Democrats of 1980 and 1984, but it could have been written about Trump Democrats today:
"Reagan Democrats" no longer saw the Democratic party as champions of their working class aspirations, but instead saw them as working primarily for the benefit of others: the very poor, feminists, the unemployed, African Americans, Latinos, and other groups.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reagan_Democrat
Back in the '70s, the Democratic party forgot who its core constituency was and lost its way. Same thing happened from 2004-2012.
Trump won the first 13 of 16 open primaries--with the help of registered Democrats. Two of those he lost out of that were to native sons, Cruz in Texas and Kasich in Ohio. Trump lost more than 50% over the same period in closed primary states.
When the progressives start using the term "Trump Democrat" among themselves, the Republicans should start getting worried. Until then, they can make hay while the sun shines. But you're right!
They don't even know they have a problem.
And a lot of these folks live in, well, WI, MI, PA and OH. Not at all surprising how this went.
It shouldn't be surprising, but the Democratic Party was taken over by progressives during the Bush Jr. administration, and their leadership position was consolidated under Barack Obama.
The whole purpose of progressivism is to use the coercive power of government to force people to make sacrifices for the common good. Progressives cannot be persuaded that want they want to do for the common good is unpopular. That is anathema to them.
If progressives become convinced that demonizing whites everywhere for being racist--because they're white--or demonizing Christians for being homophobes--because they're Christian--or demonizing men for being misogynists--because they're men, etc., etc. is for the common good, they can't make themselves stop.
That would mean they'd need to stop being progressives--because forcing various groups to make sacrifices for the common good is what being a progressive is all about.
It'll take a Bill Clinton type to snap the Democrats out of their progressive trance. Maybe somebody from the South. That person doesn't have to be pro-free trade like Slick Willy was, but Billy Boy differentiated himself from other Democrats by doing other things, too, like executing a retarded guy to show that he was tough on crime, etc.
Some Democrat (maybe someone like Trump) is going to have to do an end around the progressive leadership in the Democratic Party; otherwise, they'll never stop shooting themselves in the foot.
Some Democrat (maybe someone like Trump) is going to have to do an end around the progressive leadership in the Democratic Party
They are all on the reservation -- hard to think of a single person who could do that. Mark Cuban? Stephen Colbert?
Jim Webb could do it. I doubt he will, but he's the kind of guy they need.
An old-style Dem mayor in the mold of Ed Koch or Jimmy Griffin (Buffalo) could do it but that ship has sailed.
The problem that the Democrats have there though is that the leadership and the base are on the same page. Trump was able to do an end run around the GOP establishment because he started addressing issues that were important to the base that the leadership was ignoring (when they weren't actively working against the preferences of their base).
What issues would this outsider Democrat use? That the leadership isn't concerned enough about climate change? Pretty much the only issue that might work would be war/national security/surveillance etc., but that would require having a Democrat President, because those issues fall more under the authority of the Executive branch.
If Hillary had won, I could see her having issues like this with a primary challenger for her reelection bid, but now that ship has sailed.
"It's been exhaustively established that the majority of white men in this country are consumed with resentment at being expected to treat women and racial minorities as equals told they are the problem with America"

The core constituency of Democrats is government workers and bums. Middle-class blue collar whites haven't been the core constituency of the Democrats for decades, but until now they were able to take them for granted just like they take blacks et al. for granted.
It simply isn't true that the middle class, blue collar, whites haven't been a core constituency of the Democratic Party for decades. It's just that the progressives in the Democratic party either forgot about them or came to imagine that constituency was expendable.
We were writing yesterday about how the progressives seem to imagine that as middle class America becomes more Latino, the American middle class will become more progressive--and cement the power of progressives in perpetuity.
There are a number of problems with that thinking. One of them is that there isn't anything about being Latino that makes middle class, Americanized Latinos immune to having the same concerns as the rest of the white, blue collar, middle class. As America becomes more Latino, Latinos become more like the rest of America.
Another problem is that when the progressives try to drive a wedge between Latinos and blue collar, middle class whites, they simply end up dividing away their own core constituency. Even if Latinos someday in the future make up a majority of the white, blue collar middle class (and maintain their progressive stances despite becoming Americanized and middle class), well, what about the elections between now and then? How are you going to win elections during the transition--before they become the dominant demographic?
The white, blue collar middle class was still a core constituency of the Democratic Party during Obama's last campaign. It just doesn't seem that way right now. Obama could not have won the Presidency without significant support from the white, blue collar, middle class. Much of what he did while he was in office was an attempt to appease them in as progressive a way as possible.
Exactly right. My wife voted for Clinton, and while she's not having quite the meltdown that Facebook's Progressive population seems to be having, she's still pretty shook up. She keeps referring to the "stupid racist rednecks" who voted for Trump, and I keep saying, "Gee honey, I can't imagine why your girl didn't win..."
Which societies afforded unparalleled suffrage and prosperity to women and racial minorities again? The one's predominated by white men? Still to this day? NO CAN'T BE.
Shame on any of you who voted for that Carnival-Barking Buffoon Trump over Clinton. That kind, sweet, good hearted little old lady asked so little of you. She only wanted to lord over every facet of your existence, and this is the thanks you show her???
I'm sorry. I was thinking with my wallet. My paycheck couldn't take another hit.
Apropos: Hillary at the 2000 convention by Peter Bagge
To my fellow Muslim Americans who fear a Trump Presidency: Despite Hillary Clinton's best efforts, there are millions of gun owners who are willing to defend your rights against the tyranny of the federal government.
*drops microphone*
*standing applause*
Excellent
My Bernie supporting GF and I were trying reeeeally hard to not hear anything about the election for as long as possible. Woke up at 4 am because she was having a panic attack in the kitchen because some of her lefty friends had texted her the results -- she was thinking racist misogynists were going to attack her because she's a black woman.
Finally got her calmed down -- helped that I'd already have 6 months or so to get to calm acceptance, once Rand Paul dropped out and it became painfully clear that someone terrible was going to be president.
Told her life would go on, pretty much like normal.
Im sure she's very nice, and please don't take this the wrong way, but I would feel like getting that worked up over this is a bad sign.
Yeah, it doesn't bode well.
I'm guessing somewhere around 10 million other leftists had a similar reaction, judging from what the journalists among them have posted.
We're gonna drink and smoke some weed tonight, and I'll make her laugh, and it'll be fine.
I mean, Trump terrifies me, but I knew months ago all we would get is a hardcore statist for prez, so I'm calm about it.
Why does he terrify you? I mean, he's a thin-skinned asshole who seems happiest verbally stomping on his own dick, but do you think he'll be given anywhere near the slack by the media, the Democrats---hell, his own party---that either Hillary would've gotten or Obama did get?
He strikes me as less "let's bomb everyone" than either Obama or Hillary. He's infinitely more amenable to gay rights or abortion than any other GOP candidate I can think of. I doubt he'll be able to achieve much of anything wrestling with the federal bureaucracy. If he tries the same sort of corrupt influence peddling and money laundering Hil did, his ass would be called up on impeachment before the first checks cleared.
I guess I just don't see the frantic terror that some people have about this. I mean, he wasn't the one accusing the Russians of acts of war, nor was he threatening to shoot down their shit over Syria. If you're Estonian, OK, be afraid, I get it. But as an American?
Once you accepted that the choice was choosing the form of the destructor, and not the person you felt was best qualified for the job, it became surprisingly easy to stop worrying and love the bomb.
That being said, if a person genuinely thinks they are in specific and imminent danger just because someone was elected they are probably either very young or very dumb. I hope in your case it's the former and not the latter.
Remember, most people are Democrats until they have money. It's the one's that are still Democrat's after they're rich you gotta watch out for.
We need to see pictures from a few different angles to accurately discuss his gf's worth.
The ball is in your court, Prolefeed.
Look, just get your own GF already.
A pretty face, and thick with serious T&A, a bit younger than me, and laughs at almost all my jokes, and some stuff that wasn't even intended to be funny.
That's all you get.
laughs at almost all my jokes
She have a sister?
she was thinking racist misogynists were going to attack her because she's a black woman.
Good lord, how does anyone stomach progressivism? It's got to be like living with a serious anxiety disorder.
Because they don't know any better. It's not like it's an active choice. They socialize almost exclusively in bubbles that reinforce this view of the world?a false view, and it's really almost heartbreaking (would be if they weren't also made to be such illiberal assholes) to see it cause so much mental instability.
Fair enough. A lot of people stay in toxic relationships for a similar reason. It just seems exhausting.
The same way anything else is stomached.

I'm sort of in the same boat with my wife. She works with illegal immigrant teenagers and they are all convinced that shock troops will be descending at any moment to arrest them and dragoon them into forced labor wall construction.
My fianc? is liberal but oddly enough, while she was bummed, she didn't really get upset. Her mind frame was, "Life will go on."
My fianc? is liberal
Please provide photos so that we can determine whether or not you should be engaged to her.
The commentariat patiently awaits.
The progtards acting like we just elected a cross between Satan, Kim Jong-un, an M60, and shitting dick nipples is my favorite part.
The Hag: a person so hated, she lost to Trump. That's gotta hurt.
You fucking misogynist.
DU: still offline. Okay, it's a bit mean-spirited, but enjoy the schadenfreude.
Vladimir Putin strikes again!
What is it with the left and false flags? Guess what DU: nobody give a shit about your crappy website.
I have a theory about crappy hardware and expecting record visits, but who knows.
+1 Denial of Squirrel attack
That does seem to be a pretty likely scenario. I can't imagine anyone takes them seriously enough to bother a hack, but a desperate journo could jump on that as a last second drive the vote story.
Too bad any mention of hacking and Clinton in the same sentence pretty much immediately negates any potential positives.
(Sorry if this gets posted multiple times. Squirrels seem to be angry with me this morning.)
I happen to follow @Nokia (bought some stock a while back when they sold their mobile division), and this tweet was in my feed this morning.
Whoever runs their account deserves a medal right now.
Would would would wouldn't.
Has anyone else noticed that after decades of decrying all the money in politics the Democrats outspent the Republicans by half a billion dollars in this presidential race... and still lost.
That's why they want the money out of politics.
Ha!
Perfect prog logic.
They out-spent Republicans with Obama's runs too, as I recall. And don't let their rhetoric get in the way of seeing their goals, Democrats don't want money out of politics, they want to put all the money they can into politics. They want you to depend on money in politics for your livelihood because that is real power.
But that time the difference was the huge number of sub-$200 donations Obama brought in, so they could play it off as being a grassroots thing. This time, they just said "screw it" and threw as much 1%er money into the fire as they could.
It won't change a thing. It won't prompt even a moment of self-reflection. Empirical truth is not a left-wing value.
So last night my wife, who never votes and doesn't follow politics at all, was running into the living room every 30 minutes to put the TV on a channel showing election results. After the third time I asked her why she was bothering and told her that real results wouldn't be available until Friday. Or at the very least well after bedtime. That got me the stink eye, but at least she stopped.
my wife
Pictures of her will determine whether or not you acted properly.
The commentariat awaits.
"Theoretically smart people in the Democratic Party should have known that. And yet they worked giddily to clear the field for her."
Look, when you're owned by one of the candidates you do what they say. Pure and simple.
"To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams," she said.
When was this bitch elected the spokesperson for little girls and women in general?
According to Louis CK, she's our Mother.
Perhaps the Left will at least consider the concept of limited government, since the person they loathe was elected last night.
Hahahahahahahaha.
just a few generations too late
Goddamnit, Reason. Why is your website such a lemon?
Hillary Clinton: 'This Is Painful, and It Will Be For a Long Time.'
I'd like to get that on a T-shirt.
that wasn't a concession speech that was a speech to prepare for more gridlock from the left and to blame racist for her lost and to start preparing for the next election immediately.
I'm calling it: the first black female president will be a Republican.
-jcr
Good article, Robbo. Now get back on campus dammit.
RE: Hillary Clinton: 'This Is Painful, and It Will Be For a Long Time.'
Clinton gives her concession speech, and the Democrats face a reckoning.
Don't worry about Hillary.
She can always get a job scrubbing computers.
Mmmm... yummy tears of unfathomable sadness.
Re-join? That implies they were ever with us on that in the first place.
