Welcome to the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, Director Comey!
The weekend reactions are both a reminder and a preview of how Clinton handles a scandal.

You would think FBI Director James Comey had sent his Friday announcement to Congress on Trump-Pence letterhead the way Hillary Clinton and Democrats have responded.
To recap, for the benefit of those who spent the weekend preparing their racially and culturally tasteful and sensitive Halloween costumes instead of following the news: During the course of investigating scandal-tainted Democratic former New York Rep. Anthony Weiner and an accusation he was sexting with a minor, the FBI found hundreds of thousands of emails on a laptop he and/or his likely-soon-to-be-ex-wife Huma Abedin had been using. The metadata suggested that many of these emails might have been sent to or from Clinton's private server.
So now the FBI has to investigate to determine whether any of these emails were classified or were connected in any way to Clinton's previous mess. The letters may turn out to be duplicates or nothing interesting in particular. It seems very unlikely they're going to find any new smoking guns (insert joke about dick pics here). But Comey, after previously declaring that the FBI would not recommend any charges over Clinton's "extremely careless" handling of classified communications, decided to send a brief letter to various leaders in Congress to inform them that the FBI would be reviewing these letters to see if they were at all relevant to their previous investigation. His letter was brief (three whole paragraphs) and did not accuse Clinton of any wrongdoing whatsoever.
But, boy, has that letter opened possibly a bigger can of worms than the Wikileaks email dump somehow. To this outside observer who is completely over the election at this point, Comey's letter looks like a simple ass-covering move so the FBI doesn't get accused of ignoring evidence. But to Democrats and the Clinton camp and some others, that short letter is a full-on assault on the democratic republic and the sanctity of this election.
Over the weekend, dozens of former federal prosecutors signed on to letter criticizing Comey's decision to send the letter, noting:
Director Comey's letter is inconsistent with prevailing Department policy, and it breaks with longstanding practices followed by officials of both parties during past elections. Moreover, setting aside whether Director Comey's original statements in July were warranted, by failing to responsibly supplement the public record with any substantive, explanatory information, his letter begs the question that further commentary was necessary. For example, the letter provides no details regarding the content, source or recipient of the material; whether the newly-discovered evidence contains any classified or confidential information; whether the information duplicates material previously reviewed by the FBI; or even "whether or not [the] material may be significant."
Perhaps most troubling to us is the precedent set by this departure from the Department's widely-respected, non-partisan traditions. The admonitions that warn officials against making public statements during election periods have helped to maintain the independence and integrity of both the Department's important work and public confidence in the hardworking men and women who conduct themselves in a nonpartisan manner.
The Clinton campaign took this call for respect for non-partisan traditions and tossed it right up on their website. Former Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. signed on to the letter and also wrote a separate commentary for the Washington Post saying much of the same things. The talking points have been established. This goes against procedure! This is not the way things are done! Even Libertarian Party vice presidential nominee Bill Weld criticized Comey's letter and said Attorney General Loretta Lynch should maybe step in and "order him to stand down" if more information gets leaked.
Of course, law enforcement officials leak information to the press all the time. In fact, that might actually be a problem here that Comey couldn't avoid. The Wall Street Journal reports that there's a feud within the FBI over how thoroughly the Clinton Foundation should be investigated for possible corruption, and there are internal disagreements over whether Clintons is being treated too harshly or too loosely. It's easy to imagine some disgruntled FBI worker leaking this information out, and imagine how much more confused and possibly partisan that kind of coverage might have been.
And it's worth reminding for the umpteenth time that this is all a mess of Clinton's own making, due to her paranoia and obsession with avoiding transparency. This response is entirely in line with this very attitude, as well. They're attacking transparency as something inappropriate and out of line with "respected traditions" that could impact the electoral viability of politicians, which is kind of hilarious and kind of enraging on its own. It's not just journalists obsessed with presenting a completely unrealistic and unbelievable veneer of nonpartisanship. And, needless to say, we won't have dozens of prosecutors signing onto a letter if somebody at the FBI leaks info about you or me or some corporate CEO who has pissed off the wrong government lawyer.
Reliably awful Democratic Party hack and outgoing Sen. Harry Reid took the whole thing to a new, terrible level by accusing Comey of possibly violating the Hatch Act through his "partisan actions," and claimed that Comey was sitting on information about a relationship between Donald Trump and Russia. Former White House lawyer Richard Painter also accused Comey of possibly violating the Act, which bars public officials from attempting to influence the outcome of elections.
Ah, loudly attacking the character of somebody whose behavior may present a threat to Clinton's power. That sounds familiar. This entire reaction should seem like déjà vu to anybody who lived through President Bill Clinton's scandals. Back in the April 2000 issue of Reason magazine, as Bill Clinton's presidency approached its end, Charles Paul Freund explained the five-step process by which the Clintons managed out outlast every scandal that came their way during that presidency. Read Freund's piece and elements of it are eerily familiar. (Declaring that the latest information is "old news"? It's old news.) Note in Freund's a peek at Comey's possible fate:
This White House has responded to every major problem by introducing the character of its critics or opponents–and even its own victims–at the first opportunity, impugning those characters, and questioning motives. To the degree that it could, using allies in Congress and the press or acting directly, it has turned scandal narratives into character melodramas.
The major example of this reflex was the regular slandering of Kenneth Starr as a sex-obsessed maniac. But Starr had plenty of company; Clinton and his allies have tried to smear everybody whom they perceive as a threat. Gennifer Flowers was characterized as a gold-digging slut. Monica Lewinsky was characterized as a nutty stalker. Billy Dale of the White House Travel Office was falsely characterized as personally dishonest. Linda Tripp, thanks to a New Yorkerstory, was falsely characterized as a felon. Kathleen Willey was characterized as a delusional liar. Paula Jones was infamously characterized as trailer-park trash. UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter, who questioned the administration's resolve to rid Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, was characterized as a petty man jealous of his superiors' limousine perks. House Republicans were characterized as sexual McCarthyites attempting a political coup. Of course, the entire community of Clinton critics was notoriously characterized by Hillary Rodham Clinton herself as "a vast right-wing conspiracy."
This is actually the centerpiece of the Clinton strategy of clogging Washington's scandal machinery: Blunt every threatening story by infusing it with self-serving elements that subsequent press coverage will necessarily include. Hillary's accusation of conspiracy, made in the course of an NBC "interview" conducted by a supine Matt Lauer, was both desperate and ludicrous, and it is likely that almost everyone in the press (and in the White House, too) saw it in just those terms. Yet in the wake of Hillary's NBC appearance, most news-related talk shows devoted at least some time to absurd exchanges around the topic, "Is there a vast right-wing conspiracy?" At a minimum, Hillary's statement bought time; at best, it introduced an explanation for her husband's problems, one consistent with the rest of the Clinton scandal narrative: That he is the innocent victim, year in and year out, of dreadful people with evil motives and low characters.
Indeed, a good part of the discussion is now about Comey's motives, not about the information itself. This, folks, is a very good preview of the kind of administration Clinton will have. Under President Barack Obama we endured condescending lectures to justify the administration's massive expansion of executive and regulatory authority. Under President Hillary Clinton, we may endure condescending lectures telling us why we shouldn't care about whatever stonewalling and her staff may do to keep Americans out of the loop about her behavior.

OT: What's with the deal with the Standing Rock situation in North Dakota?
I really don't know anything about it.

Thanks!
Haven't been following it myself, but I have noticed on Derpbook that progs have suddenly discovered that a powerful federal government can abuse the rights of others, even with the Lightbringer in the White House. Shocking!
A thing going around Derpbook right now is to override your GPS setting and "check in" to Standing Rock, because supposedly the feds are using Derpbook checkins to Standing Rock to arrest protesters.
I have noticed on Derpbook that progs have suddenly discovered that a powerful federal government white people can abuse the rights of others

Well done, weedhopper.
Ed, are you going to stop using energy?
Just asking.
...(insert joke about dick pics here).
I'm doing your work for you, Shackford.
Looks like I may be taking a consulting gig with the Clinton campaign. I'm going to be instructing her staff what CC, BCC and 'Forward' means when dealing with email.
I would start with the difference between your government work-email - which is housed on a secured server in a guarded facility - and your fucking basement server or husband's laptop which isn't secure at all. Then some instructions on what type of communications each type of system ought to be used for.
The Hag has been doing whatever she wants and getting away with it for at least 30 years.
Huma got careless. Thought she had a free pass. You can't expect a chick who would marry Tony Penis to have standards.
Huma is nothing but a political parasite. She is a barnacle attaching herself to whatever ship she can find. Unfortunately for her, all her ships keep sinking.
Weiner is the Fredo Corleone of the Democratic Party...
I wonder what kind of accident he will have.
Suicide. Three shots from a .22 pistol into the back of his head.
"Leave the gun, take the matzoh."
That ship sailed. There is no difference, the FBI made sure of that. All future government officials may now keep private servers and shield themselves from FOIA requests. So the only thing left is to teach them to minimize the re-re-re-re-duplication of an email on everyone in their circle including:
Field Marshal Haig, Field Marshal Haig's wife, all Field Marshal Haig's wife's friends, their families, their families' servants, their families' servants' tennis partners, and some chap I bumped into the mess the other day called Bernard."
So, umm, the tennis partners are out then?
All future government officials called Clinton. Terms and conditions apply etc.
"I would start with the difference between your government work-email - which is housed on a secured server in a guarded facility - and your fucking basement server or husband's laptop which isn't secure at all. "
Poor old Hillary just couldn't be expected to know anything about rules regarding classified information when she became Secretary of State.
It's not like she had been a Senator who was on the Armed Services Committee and as such was already privy to classified information and how it was supposed to be handled - oh wait.
Most qualified candidate evah!!!1!!
If you do not agree you must by misogynist by default.
There is a difference between regular government correspondence and classified government correspondence. You get two computers at your desk ? the regular computer and the classified computer with separate network, separate keyboard, separate monitor, everything. If you use the regular for classified materials, there's hell to pay.
At least for a regular government employee.
Keep in mind that "you can explain it to them but you can't Understand It For Them."
Same story as the ACA "programmers..."
As I said in the other article's comments where this topic came up:
Hilarious. The only evidence we have of malicious conspiracy so far is O'Keefe's revelations of dirty (likely illegal) campaigning politicking and emails from the DNC and Hillary's own campaign.
As far as we have evidence for, the vast right-wing conspiracy this year is a bunch of people banding together to elect an idiot.
You're leaving out the vast conspiracy to provide her with a perfectly good email server that wouldn't have drawn anyone's ire.
Also, the vast conspiracy to implement RFC 821 et al. that allows for all kinds of different ways to store an pass email between innumerable accounts, selectively, without storing it all in a bathroom closet.
If demanding technical infosec competence is a conspiracy, I'm a co-conspirator. I'm not of the "right wing" though, so I guess that's a different conspiracy altogether.
If you're posting in the comment section of a libertarian magazine and you're not spamming or trolling, then you most certainly are of the right wing (in Clinton's supporters' mind, anyway).
Hello, deplorable. How's life in your end of the basket?
"his letter begs the question that further commentary was necessary"
Pedants start your engines!
My engine of pedantry is filled with nitromethane and never runs dry.
If you'd really wanted to annoy us, you should have spelled it as "pendants." Amateur.
You do know that the "controversy" over that saying was due to a sloppy translation, don't you? From Wikipedia:
Lol? I was more commenting that it really doesn't apply there for either use of the word.
"Moreover, setting aside whether Director Comey's original statements in July were warranted"
No, let's *not* set aside the question whether Comey should have recommended a criminal prosecution of Hillary Clinton.
If he was wrong to let he walk the first time, then this latest thing is him making at least partial reparation for is initial error.
But, yeah, let's "set[] aside" the issue of whether there was *already* enough evidence to prosecute, and focus instead on claiming that Comey used the wrong procedure to make up for his earlier misconduct.
And part of his original statement was a promise to Congress to keep them informed if there are additional developments in the case.
What has started to really grind my gears is that so much of Hillary's nefarious goings on are still referred to as an "email scandal." Unfortunately, the original "email scandal" label was - at least arguably - accurate, in that her private server, etc. made sensitive emails available to hackers, etc.
But calling all these current scandals (DNC colluding to deny Bernie the nomination, Clinton Foundation quid pro quo, etc. etc. etc. etc.) "email scandals" just because emails are the evidence of wrongdoing is like calling a liquor store robbery "alcohol related."
To be fair, it is damn hard to keep track of Clinton scandals. There are so many of them it is a natural reaction to lump some together just to save some memory space.
I was told (and half believe it) that if you're run over while smoking a cigarette, it is a 'smoking-related death'.
I don't know about that. But I'm pretty sure that if a drunk passenger is killed is a traffic accident, it gets counted as an "alcohol related traffic fatality".
I took my rifle out of the safe and cleaned it; I live two blocks from at school, and now Bloomers is counting that as misuse of a weapon at or near a school.
I must commend you on the final simile.
You're right, of course. The MSM knows it must report on it, but they can wield swords blunted to fencing foils so the empress can feign shock about it. Trot out the whipping boy to take her punishment for her and carry on as if nothing had ever happened at all.
Dense pack scandal defense management.
"This flowchart is getting hard to follow....hey, honey? Which costume should I feel the most white guilt about?"
1) Blackface
2) Sexy Indian (feather)
3) Sexy Indian (dot)
4) Cross-dressing (if not transsexual)
Its transgender you fucking cis-hetero shit lord.
Excuse me, but transsexuals are specifically exempted by Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Just dress up as Casper's ghost uncles.
This is obviously offensive.
Now I see why Squanto was so willing to help the Pilgrims.
Also, how often to indignant groups of ex-prosecutors (including a former AG) send public letters to object to the mistreatment of the average Joe Blow who is getting hassled by the cops?
how often *do* etc.
What I want to know is where was the indignant letter from ex-prosecutors when Comey declined to press charges back in July?
And why was he the one deciding -- isn't that the job of the DOJ? Given the conflict of interest involved, why wasn't there a special prosecutor assigned? Where was the letter of indignation about that?
the FBI found hundreds of thousands of emails on a laptop he and/or his likely-soon-to-be-ex-wife Huma Abedin had been using
Hundreds... of thousands. Let that sink in for a moment.
Also let it sink in why it's so fucking stupid for a state department official to use a private email server for State department business.
I heard a rumor the other night that Huma may have had an auto-forwarder set up on her Clintonmail account. I can tell you right now that even though it's a rumor, it's highly likely she (or someone else in the inner circle) did have one.
When I was in healthcare we were under the strictures of HIPAA. I can't tell you how many times a month a doctor who thought he was above the rules wanted an auto-forwarder set up on his hospital email to go to his personal yahoo or gmail account. Those requests were like fruit flies and we were constantly swatting them down. When you have secret shit, YOU DON'T PUT AUTOFORWARDERS ON YOUR EMAIL.
Gawd, it's just so hilarious that the Dear Leaders of the "I f-----g love science!" crowd are so ridiculously inept at the simple task of managing email.
Inept is not the same thing as apathetic
Why not both?
Well of course, none of that internet shit is science....
auto forward would be smart if Huma's intent was to cover her own ass If/when Hillary was busted. it may have backfired on her though.
How could there be so many emails? I just don't understand how Hillary could be generating that sort of traffic. Now if it was the entire department's emails that might be a possibility but why would Hillary be getting so many of them?
I find it funny how CNN has suggested that Comey should keep his mouth shut. First time I can recall where instead of the media demanding to know everything immediately, that they tell the government to STFU.
The awfulness of CNN has really shone through this election.
I agree
The horribleness and the awfulness of it will never really be forgotten.
For all of you planning to move to Canada after the election, please note that if you want CNN or Fox, you have to pay extra. Fortunately, I'm cheap.
You can tell how much this has discombobulated the Clinton campaign and their media enablers due to the sputtering contradictions post-letter. On the one hand, they want Comey to immediately lay out in specific detail exactly what he's found, and then not even 30 seconds later argue that he needs to be quiet and "stop interfering" in Her Majesty's coronation.
And all over Comey basically saying that they don't even know what they have yet. You'd think these idiots would calm the fuck down and stop implicating themselves via emotional hysterics. If it was nothing, they wouldn't be nearly this upset about it.
"If it was nothing, they wouldn't be nearly this upset about it."
Bingo!
this is old news from last Friday.
I believe that Weiner and Huma are playing out the final stages in a complex, multi-year plot to keep Hillary out of the Whitehouse. A plot so devious that it makes Frank and Claire Underwood look like five-year-old Mormoms kicking sand onto other people's shoes.
Mark my words that come January, Mr and Mrs Weiner, after a prolonged, passionate second honeymoon in the Caribbean, will arrive joyfully in D.C. to accept a couple very high level appointments in the new Trump administration.
So it's official - the United States is now the Weiner Republic.
*rimshot*
You know who else seized power while surrounded by sausage?
Traci Lords?
Sasha Grey?
The previous two comments were clearly made by people of different generations.
Yet similar tastes.
I would've ran with WeinAr Republic fwiw
I had to look up "Sasha Grey". Now get off my lawn.
You're welcome. She takes all comers.
Or does she cum all takers?
Caligula?
Thanks to a bet I made with a co-worker I have a bottle of scotch coming my way once Clinton wins, so it won't be all bad.
How big is a four-year bottle of scotch? Like 2 55 gal. drums?
If I drink myself to death that one bottle will last forever!
The way the next 4 years are going, I won't be able to afford my favorite single-malts. I may have to downgrade to blended scotch (the horror.....)
It sounds like there were just too many NYPD investigators and FBI Agents in on this already for Comey to keep it under wraps.
They thought that kiddie porn would come pouring out when they cracked open that PC. Instead hundreds of thousands of government emails tumbled out. And this has to be some pretty damning shit or Comey would have continued being a good soldier and hushed it up.
The letters may turn out to be duplicates or nothing interesting in particular. It seems very unlikely they're going to find any new smoking guns (insert joke about dick pics here).
Other than wishful thinking, why are you so certain that it's very unlikely that there would be no smoking guns?
Anthony Weiner just used his get-out-of-jail-free card. It will be a shame when he commits suicide Vince Foster style.
Hmm, I must go look up 'shame' in the dictionary, because I don't recall 'total apathy' being one of the definitions.
I already called it - at some point very early in 2017, as soon as the heat dies down a bit, Anthony Weiner will be found face down in a field wearing lacy panties and a bra, with a garrotte so tight around his neck that his head will be almost off. It will be ruled "autoerotic asphyxiation."
Isn't that how Michael Hutchence of INXS kicked the bucket? Or was it Kung Fu Carradine?
Yes and yes.
Well, tey already found plenty of "smoking guns" that prove violations of the Espionage Act. But then they turned around and said, basically, "this strict liability statute actually has a mens rea requirement that we totally didn't make up and, since Clinton didn't produce a signed and notarized affidavit admitting guilt, she didn't do anything that can be prosecuted despite us having prosecuted many people in the past for lesser offenses".
Put another way, is it a smoking gun if everyone insists the gun is cold, has never been fired, and besides, it was really Colin Powell who pulled the trigger?
Do you know what "unlikely" means? How about "seems"?
Other than wishful thinking
Wishful thinking, or depressed pessimism. I sort of agree, but for the latter reason.
It was nice of Weld to stand up for The Hag. A true gentlepuss.
Fucking Bill Weld. I was 100% going to vote for Johnson, warts and all, just to try to get the LP ahead in the next election cycle, but between the nose-holding I have to do for Johnson and Weld's fifth column bullshit, I may very well be voting Trump. If I can't vote on principle or strategy, at least I can enjoy the wailing and gnashing of teeth of Progressives on Facebook.
Funny how the leftist media is hefting Weld onto their shoulders and parading around singing "he's a jolly good fellow" while real libertarians look at that little shit and are ready to burn it down...
Weld is an absolute disaster. Is he even a libertarian at all?
Not in any recognizable form.
There is some serious breakdown of communication between Johnson and Weld. Weld clearly wants to take off the LP mask and run to Clinton now, especially since his running mate is melting down and Trump is on the rise again.
What serious libertarian would chide the FBI director for "going off the reservation" for the sake of transparency? What should we make make of Edward Snowden and Julian Assange?
And I certainly don't recall Weld and Johnson losing their cool when Comey let Clinton off the hook the first time. But they did repeat "We're two governors from blue states" line ad nauseam.
I hadn't heard that one. Not surprising though, given that he and Clinton are friends. The LP is too easy to co-opt these days. We need another vehicle for the liberty movement.
Wow, I just saw a Business Insider article and they're reporting 650,000 emails. No fucking WONDER Hillary Clinton wants the FBI to release the details. She knows that if she tells one lie about anything and just ONE of those emails refutes her ass, it's going to be real hard for CNN to run interference on that.
She knows that if she tells one lie about anything and just ONE of those emails refutes her ass, it's going to be real hard for CNN to run interference on that.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....HAHAHAHAHA
Oh you
Just like the last time(s) she was caught in a lie. Nothing else happened.
If Hillary does one of her potato sack imitation while in the act of committing the crime mentioned above:
"Anthony Weiner will be found face down in a field wearing lacy panties and a bra, with a garrotte so tight around his neck that his head will be almost off. It will be ruled "autoerotic asphyxiation."
She still has a 50% chance of getting off scott free, IMHO.
Huzzah!! Comey may have been trying to just cover his ass, but now he's got every incentive to find dirt on Clinton. Because Clinton has pretty much signaled he's out of a job if she wins and not Trump.
I guess the New York Times is trying to spin this as a Hatch Act violation or something? Stay classy, Big Media.
By that logic, wouldn't withholding evidence of potential criminal wrongdoing on the part of candidate in order to keep the electorate in the dark also be a violation of the Hatch Act?
Only if that candidate was a Republican or Libertarian.
Indeed. As Playa Manhattan said, "Strict liability is only for the little people." Or, as you astutely point out, one who is not within the Circle of GoodRightthinkniks.
It would take this great nation eight more years before we got a vice president sufficiently versed in the art of photobombing.
"Reliably awful Democratic Party hack and outgoing Sen. Harry Reid took the whole thing to a new, terrible level by accusing Comey of possibly violating the Hatch Act through his "partisan actions," and claimed that Comey was sitting on information about a relationship between Donald Trump and Russia."
It's the AND part that baffles me. If their interpretation of the Hatch Act is correct, then Comey SHOULD sit on information he has about secret Trump/Putin relationships until after the election, correct??
Obviously, their interpretation is not correct, and Reid is likely lying about Trump, just like he lied about Romney's taxes. When called on the Romney lie, Reid's response was "Well, Obama won, didn't he?"
I'd say it's a given that he's lying at this point. If he had documented proof of collusion between Trump and Putin, he'd have been waving that shit on the Senate floor like Joe McCarthy.
I see Hillary is already spreading Reid's lies about the feds investigating Trump's Putin relations
What nobody has seemingly noticed is what Huma, HRC, or any of her surrogates are NOT saying, which is "we're confident that there are no classified materials in those emails. Moreover there is nothing untoward contained in those emails whatsoever." That nobody is saying anything close to that or that HRC's lawyers would never let her say that is most telling. Their desperation has been a wonder to behold.
That is rather telling.
House Republicans were characterized as sexual McCarthyites attempting a political coup.
Hell, they made a major motion picture out of it.
Again -
I'm pretty sure that's wrong. It was not whether they were relevant to any "Previous" investigation - it was whether they were relevant to ANY investigation. Emphasis on the point that there was more than one.
Which investigation these emails were relevant to is not specified in comey's letter.
Saying it was specific to the "previous" one is wrong both in asserting that it was only relevant to the "mishandling of classified information" (and not, say, investigations of the Clinton Foundation)... as well as in suggesting that the "mishandling of classified information" investigation was ever closed, which it was technically not.
I can't help but wonder if Comey had this moment during his investigation?
What is so ridiculous is what a self-fulfilling prophesy the political-behavior is = If you TREAT the letter as though its something of mammoth-importance and super-cereal-serious, then they public must assume it is
if the Hillary PR people and DNC flaks had hit the talk shows explaining how this was nothing but bureaucratic mop up, it probably would have been spun that way by the compliant press
Instead, everyone on the left collectively shit their pants and the media amplified it.
You know who else shit their pants...
My 10 month old?
congratulations!
The Secretary huddles in the corner of the dining room behind a hastily assembled pile of sandbags and rusty plates of scrap steel. The FBI SWAT team has been entrenched outside her New York estate for the past thirty or so hours. She clutches an ancient Remington pump-action shotgun. Next to her lies an AR-15, broken and useless, its barrel having overheated and burst a few hours into the initial firefight.
The Secretary is a mess: what was once a ten thousand-dollar Armani pantsuit is now in tatters. Her hair is disheveled and greasy. Her face is a mural of lunacy and horror, painted with fear, rage, and the soot from where her rifle gave its life.
That last round, though! It took that piss-ant negotiator right on the bridge of his nose! She smiles at the thought of this. The Secretary has watched many people die over the course of her career, but hasn't pulled the trigger herself in over twenty years. But the old skills came back when they were needed most. Indeed, the vision of the agent's head bursting like a rotten watermelon has sustained her spirits throughout the siege.
cont'd
Our attention is drawn to a figure sitting in a chair in front of the dining room window. Upon closer inspection, we see it is a man, stripped to his boxers and t-shirt, bloody, beaten, and barely conscious. He is tied to the chair. The man is the ex-husband of her former right-hand woman. The little rat had gotten himself caught trying to pick up young girls online, and lo and behold, he had shared his computer with his bitch-whore traitor of a wife. All the Secretary's emails - years of backroom deals, grand schemes, and bold, empire-building plans - now interspersed with his expansive collection of child porn. She throws a quick, hate-filled glance in his direction. She hasn't allowed a man to touch her body in over thirty years, and the bloody, semi-conscious mess before her validates that choice. He is is positioned directly between the Secretary's crude bunker and the dining room window overlooking the lawn where the team is assembled. A small trickle of blood drips from his right ear, the remnants of his ruined eardrum. For the last thirty hours, she has used him as a shield, firing past his head at the throng of federal agents sheltered behind their armored vehicles. Her fire has been deadly and precise: several bodies, dressed in tactical gear, lie motionless on the lawn, all efforts to retrieve them having met with withering fusillades of gunfire.
cont'd
But this is the end. The Secretary has come to terms with this over the last few hours. In the palm her her hand she holds three shotguns shells, the last of her ammunition. They're slug rounds, devastating to human flesh. The men outside are wearing armor, so she'll have to go for head shots. She's wearing a Kevlar vest of her own. She knows it won't stop the rifle rounds that will be coming her way momentarily, but she's counting on it to buy her a few precious seconds, enough to get off one last glorious shot. She slips the shells into the magazine and works the action, chambering a round.
Outside, the team hears the familiar sound of a shotgun action. It's the first sound from inside the house in hours. Adrenaline now flowing again, they clutch their weapons tightly and fix their gaze on the dining room window. At first, there is only the motionless figure of the man tied to the chair. Then, a gun barrel comes into view, pointed directly at the man's head. A thud, a flash, and his head disappears in a red spray. Immediately, a thickly muscled leg appears from the side and kicks the lifeless body to the side. Then, moving with frightening speed, the Secretary appears in the window, her shotgun leveled. With a guttural shriek, she pulls the trigger. The round strikes an agent in the throat. Before his body hits the ground, the team opens up. Their fire is precise; the Secretary's body jerks with the impact of their rounds. She manages to jack one more round into the chamber. She fires, and just as her shot sails uselessly into the sky, a single round (fired by an agent two months out of the Academy, it is later learned) strikes the Secretary in her forehead. The room behind her is showered in a spray of blood, bone, and brain.
cont'd
Yet through some hellish will, she is able to shuck the last round into the chamber. She slowly starts to raise the weapon, but her ruined body betrays her; the weapon will rise no further. She pulls the trigger and the shot lands harmlessly in the front yard, kicking up a spray of dirt. The Secretary falls forward, her body coming to rest hanging from the window, her hand still clutching the shotgun.
After what seems an eternity, the team leader stands up from behind his armored vehicle and slowly removes his helmet. His eyes are wide, his mouth agape. Beads of sweat roll down his face.
"Holy shit," he says, "I was about to tell her the President had issued her a pardon . . . "
Bravo!
Beautiful.

Is that for real? Because I didn't think CNN had even a shred of integrity left.
It's very real.
That part at least is true
the rest of it sounds like Claude Raines in Casablanca expressing shock that there is gambling taking place
Yeah, Brazile fucked up, she got caught.
Have you seen the clips where they are doing the post-debate interviews with a 'studio audience', and the camera cut too quickly and caught the anchor feeding the audience what to say?
Good times. Plus, hiring a classy guy like Chris Cuomo. They're a top-notch outfit.
Holy shit! No, I hadn't seen that before.
Racism, obviously.
Are CNN actually pretending they didn't know about this?
The Man is a National Treasure.

Is it too much to hope that this Clinton email thing somehow involves Harambe?
CNN severed ties with Donna Brazile, cited her interaction with the Clinton campaign.
PROUD DEMOCRAT!
There'd be a noticeable uptick in the unemployment numbers if that standard was applied universally
There'd be no one around to fire the last guy.
Hypocrites.
You know it's funny, whenever the media and Hollywood climbs all over Trump, Democrats always chide the republicans for nominating a clownish blowhard. And they're right.
But that shit cuts both ways.
Whenever law enforcement climbs all over Hillary, well, that's what you get when you nominated a career criminal.
What crimes has she committed, right-wing blowhard? You actually have to go to court in this country to be a criminal, Jefe, not the star chamber at Breitbart.com.
So therefore Al Capone was nothing more than a tax evader, because that's the only thing they ever got him on, right?
Ouch, looks like you've been marinating in Weinergate all weekend!
Be nice to him. By the time stamp, he probably just got out of bed.
And Comey in June actually gave a fairly good overview of some of her crimes, he just declined to recommend prosecution, as would have been the case for anyone else.
"What crimes has she committed, right-wing blowhard? "
Salty!
Need some Preparation H for that asspain?
There is far more evidence that Hillary Clinton willfully violated several laws, from record-keeping policies to information security regulations to felonies defined by the Espionage Act, than there is evidence that Richard Nixon knew about or was involved with Watergate.
It really is appropriate that the nickname most people have for you here includes the word "sock".
Conducting official .gov business on a private email server. That's a federal crime. Also, destroying any official .gov property, in this case, emails on that server is a federal crime. And no, it does not matter if the emails were private emails or not, just by being on that server they are the property of her employer, who just happened to be the federal government. And if you are not aware of that, you're at best ignorant.
I'll tell you what, dummy. If you have a job, you can try this. Take your companies email server home and don't keep any backups, then delete some of the emails. Go ahead and try it. We'll send you a cake to your jail cell. A nice cake with IDIOT written on it.
And no, it does not matter if the emails were private emails or not, just by being on that server they are the property of her employer, who just happened to be the federal government.
Not usually. Unless the fedgov paid for the server, which would open up a whole new can of worms regarding misuse of government funds. Records not related to official business are generally exempt from FOIA and records not stored or transmitted on government systems are not government property.
But what is true is that if she commingled sensitive and classified information with personal information, she doesn't get to hold on to the server just because of the personal information. It is the federal government's prerogative to confiscate the server (and any electronic devices that may have communicated with it) and to determine what is and isn't "personal".
The idea that Clinton would get to retain the server (and associated devices) and get to decide, whether through lawyers or otherwise, what is and isn't sensitive or classified is absurd. No one else would be, or has been, granted that privilege. And if there is even a single piece of classified information present on that server, regardless of whether she hands it over or not, then she's guilty of a crime regardless of any "intent", 18 U.S.C. ? 793 (d)-(f) and ? 798 (a).
But not for asset forfeiture laws to apply. We could probably eliminate the national debt by seizing all of the money and property that is in / has flowed through the Clinton's personal and foundation accounts. Not even an arrest or indictment required.
That's what tickled me all weekend. So many rants about how everyone is so over Clinton's email, so this is all a big nothing, and the emails are probably all duplicates or personal anyway, but also Comey is an unprecedented partisan hack who may have doomed the US to fascism.
If this latest discovery will prove to be nothing, as I suspect it will, why are you people freaking the fuck out? Why was there an immediate, collective freakout by the usual suspects, instead of a collective shrug? It really surprises me that they decided to engage it head on and go after Comey rather than trying to downplay it as nothing new or scandalous.
Apparently the Clinton people are in the state of complete panic, so they cannot think straight.
Or, they know this won't prove to be nothing.
Possible, or what was in that email cache was so immediately recognizable as toxic, that Comey knew he needed to get ahead of the crisis before any of the NYPD investigators who'd looked at that laptop, decided to run their mouths to the press.
I mean, I've followed reading about other people with way more time than me, taking a look at the various Podesta email leaks and other stuff that wikileaks's dribbled out over the last month, and most of their 'finds' are things you need to be a borderline autistic to even figure out. Lots of charts with hot maps, and links between various political contributors, boards of directors, etc...: basically the big scene from A Beautiful Mind where we realize Russell Crowe is batshit crazy.
This Weiner leak doesn't seem to be like that. Comey didn't think it'd take two weeks of tirelessly plowing through connections to find the dirt; it was stuff that was easily recognizable by police detectives as dirty.
Assuming of course, that the whole laptop story isn't some parallel construction bullshit to hide that they got the server contents from e.g., GCHQ.
Reasons they have cause to believe that this trove may be rife w/ dirt
- metadata indicates the to/from/date/subject. they can tell that there are significant volumes of back-forth in key times & subjects where there were gaps in the "official" handover of email. Many of the things in this trove are likely to be examples of things that had been deleted on server
- the Huma/Hillary 1-1 conversations were far more candid, frequent, explicit than with any other parties
- As noted above: the investigation that 'found' this stuff is not necessarily looking for "mishandled intelligence"; the investigation comey 'summed up' in July was about that. The people in the NY FBI office are more interested in Clinton Foundation-related dirt, which the DC people had studiously ignored. that said, there may also be evidence of 'intent' to evade security protocols which the Mishandling-investigation could use to go the last mile in their own investigation. (*tho i doubt that angle is going to be resuscitated at all)
And it's worth reminding for the umpteenth time that this is all a mess of Clinton's own making, due to her paranoia and obsession with avoiding transparency.
This + 1.
Hillary is paranoid, and her presidency will be *sick*.
Well, I'll just vote Clinton...er....Johnson-Weld. Wait, what's the difference again? Democrat Lite is not very inspiring.
Johnson should just tell Weld to fuck off already.
Johnson said Bill Weld as a running mate is a dream come true or some such thing. I don't think he's recanted on that.
Would you mid-election cycle?
Back in May I thought McAfee was just punking the LP. I thought his .9999 pure libertarian message was just a ruse to get the nomination, and that he would regard the nomination would be nothing more than a personal achievement in manipulating people.
Now I realize that it was Johnson who punked the LP. He is a fake libertarian, and nothing more than a stalking horse for Clinton. There were lots of red flags before the convention, and lots of libertarians warning about Johnson/Weld.
No way I'd vote Trump, but I will take no pleasure in voting LP this year.
Vote Trump as a fuck you to the LP. Vote the downticket LP noms. That's what I'm gonna do. Of course i live in PA so Clinton will take it, but FUCK THE LP FOR NOMINATING THESE TURDS!
I cannot argue with this sentiment, but I'm still voting LP. I cannot fault anybody who votes against any of the candidates.
But please vote for statewide LP candidates. It helps the LP keep ballot access.
Another body on the pile.
What difference, at this point...
Can we discuss the laptops the FBI agreed to dispose of? A deal to actually destroy evidence. This whole thing is fucked up.

Ah. While I like Joe, and i thought he was the best analyst of the whole clinton email thing back in the spring, its worth noting that many consider him a very-tainted source. he's been bird-dogging the Clintons since the early 1990s

TRUMP YOKELS ACTIVATE!
It's not a crime to express different sentiments than one holds in private.
The jokes on socialists like you - her public statements are in support of your silly ideas, while in private (talking to investment bankers and other big donors) she laughs at you and says of course she doesn't believe your nonsense.
This, Eddie. And trump supporters are not bothered by his quick sand positions. Lo, the shit sandwich and giant douche have come to pass
But Clinton's lies are the right lies!
The joke's on everyone. Hillary believes what will bring the next check until she gets the next check. The only reason she sold out the people instead of the bankers is the bankers have more checks.

You mean the nipples didn't do that for you?
CNN says it is "completely uncomfortable" with hacked emails showing former contributor and interim DNC chair Donna Brazile sharing questions with the Clinton campaign before a debate and a town hall during the Democratic primary, and has accepted her resignation.
She's still got the sweet ABC gig, right? Stephanopolococcus will stand by her.
...a child molester. Oh wait, he actually was.
Of course he did.
WTF is wrong with Bill Weld? Ok, fine, he's not a Libertarian. But he is (or was) a Republican. Why the fuck would he carry water for Clinton? Is he really so deranged by his hatred of Trump?
Alternate possibility: he genuinely believes she did nothing wrong because he would have done the same things in her position.
Rockefeller style Republican. The power network is what they know.
This!
At this point the fact that he's not a libertarian is dwarfed by the fact he's not even an opponent to his purported opponent. He can't even stop himself from white knighting on her behalf, what a joke. He's the worst thing the LP has ever nominated for anything.
But the whole thing is so strange because Weld came from the Republican Party not the Democratic Party. White knighting for your current opponent is bizarre enough but white knighting for someone who would have been your opponent at any time in the past too is even stranger.
Weld referred to the Monty Python 'burn the witch' bit from Holy Grail in his defense of Hillary.
His inner Freud must have been messing with him, since the person in the bit did turn out to be a witch
Also, the accusations being leveled against Clinton are well defined. There is, as I noted above, less ambiguity here than there was when Nixon was accused of involvement with Watergate.
If somebody was saying some unrelated bullshit proves Clinton committed a specific and clearly defined crime, then Weld might have a point. But there is ample evidence backing the charges that is directly related to them.
The LP would have done better to have nominated the crazy guy who wears the rubber boot on his head or the gross male stripper.
Stop trying to gaslight Vermin.
When asked what comes to mind when he hears the words "Hillary Clinton", Bill Weld said "Old friend. Nice kid. Knew her in her 20s. We shared an office in the Nixon impeachment, real bond, lifelong."
She's an old friend with whom he has a real, lifelong bond.
Gee, the position she got fired from for being dishonest and sleazy.
That may not say good things about your character judgement, Governor.
Fuck Bill Weld. That statement of his just cancelled my vote for Johnson. I wasn't very enthused about voting for him this time, but there is no friggin way I'm sending him a vote now.
I cant blame you for that.
I still will, but at this point it is purely an attempt for 5%
Same. Not that I can take back my already-cast vote.
Can the LP learn from their mistakes next time? That's what matters, because this time it's just for the momentum.
Hopefully the LP learns something from this whole shitshow.
If you do have any down ticket lp candidates, please do vote for them.
I really only bother to vote so I can vote for the down ticket anyway. I will def be voting LP wherever I can. And of course no on every friggin bond measure and liberty killing measure this leftist city loves to put up.
Why do you hate libraries? You don't want children to read? You think society should be illiterate? You afraid of people having knowledge? Why do you want to burn books? SHAME ON YOU
Same here, man. It is a bit fun seeing a bunch of no votes on my ballot. I wish they sayd fuck no.
PLEASE, please vote for the statewide LP candidates.
The odds of your vote making the difference in a presidential election are negligible, so vote against whomever you want. However, a vote for statewide LP candidates can make a difference since ballot access in the next election depends upon it. I don't know about other states, but Texas has an excellent candidate in Mark Miller, who is running for Texas Railroad Commissioner.
For the first time ever, a Libertarian candidate has endorsements from the newspapers in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. Mark Miller holds a PhD in petroleum engineering, is a UT-Austin professor emeritus of petroleum engineering, has 30 years experience in oil and gas, and is a real libertarian. His Republican opponent was twice named the worst legislator in the Texas Legislature by Texas Monthly magazine. His Democrat opponent is an octogenarian retired schoolteacher who wants to ban fracking. His Green opponent is a nice Latina who wants to ban fracking. You may wonder about the relevance of the oil industry stuff to the Texas Railroad Commission. That's because regulation of the oil and gas industry is about 99.9% of what the Commision does. It has nothing to do with railroads.
I understand the rationale that some libertarians have regarding the inherently aggressive nature of voting. So, if you're philosophically opposed to voting, I'm not arguing that you should vote.
I wish I was excited about my down ticket, but between Mike Fellows dying in a car crash and the resulting leadership vacuum being temporary filled by an oppotunist from Nowhereville I don't have much to get excited about. Just kind of a WTF...
Yeh, just read Weld's comments. WTF?
Prior to July, Comey had a reputation for being a highly ethical professional. For him to break protocol it almost must be one of two things:
1) He has gone hyperpartisan for Trump
2) The emails highlight Clinton misdeeds great enough to be unquestionably disqualifying
Comey's actions are career ending. It is difficult to believe he is doing this for Trump. Far more likely he is doing it for 'love of country'. Must be some pretty juicy stuff he's seen.
Agreed. This could also be a career suicide run motivated by remorse. He should have concluded the investigation and handed it over to DOJ without commenting on whether a prosecution should follow knowing it should have. He didn't. He may have realized how badly he fucked up and viewed this as a second chance.
Very few are attributing this to partisanship. By far most just think he has handled this ham-handedly. And he has.
Let's take one example that you would think libertarians (you know, those folks who are always acteaming about government official overreach) would find offensive.
The head of the FBI reaches a conclusion that a case will not be prosecuted. And if it was prosecuted, the accused would be able to defend himself against that FBI charge directly on court. But Comey holds a press conference saying he won't prosecute, but here are all the other things the suspect did wrong. Could that person defend herself directly? Nope.
Anybody else and you would be screaming. But let's always have the head of the FBI going beyond the investigation, with press conferences accusing the individual of misdeeds. You would hate that.
But oh yeah? Hillary!
At least Weld understands principle.
Can't tell if serious. This is a joke, right? I mean, partisan hackery can't possibly make someone this retarded for real.
It's Joe. Stupid is what he does best.
Right! But I didn't know WTFs name was Joe!
Can someone bring me a broom to sweep up WTF's ashes?
Droit du seigneur is a "principle", yes?
Hilarious.
You really are proving yourself as idiotic as people here think you are.
I picture him as a monkey smashing keys on a keyboard in between sessions of throwing shit at the walls, and he still manages to undershoot my expectations.
Around here? It's a badge of honor.
What dosage is necessary to maintain such delusions?
Poor Hillary Clinton, she's being persecuted by not being prosecuted!
And how can she defend herself from these allegations? If only the media would listen to her and coordinate what they say with her campaign!
Keebs! How goes it?
Look, I know you're stupid. And I know you believe you've done your duty to spread the talking points. But you could at least attempt to defend your position, as terrible as you are at doing it.
I defended it above. And outside of the idiotic responses, what else is there?
But I knew, Keebers, you would support FBI press conferences about misdeeds of those not charged with anything. I can always count on the phony libertarians who frequent these pages. Like you!
What defense? Did you say the words aloud and forget to type them?
In order to accuse people of being "phony" you have to actually be something "real" yourself.
In the original comment, oh wise one. FBI overreach through a press conference all about a person not charged with anything, but here are the things the FBI thinks we're wrong with that individual. Just great! Knew you would support it. Of course, until it's done to someone you like.
If you want a change in FBI policy, then propose it. If you think Clinton is being treated worse than most of the people the FBI investigates, then provide some evidence of differential treatment. And the FBI is an investigatory body (it's the Federal Bureau of Investigation), so of course they're going to be involved before the prosecution (if any) happens. That's how the process works.
And you want to talk about predictability?
Here's you defending a blatantly corrupt and criminal Democrat just because she's a Democrat.
I can "count on you" to not apply any critical thought and just engage in blind partisanship.
Funny. And here I am...not voting Democrat. Really, funny that. But I must be, right? At least in your pin-heads eye view of the world that you enjoy. I would have to be defending Democrats if I support speaking out about government overreach.
That's right...I forgot...Hillary!
It's not about FBI "overreach". That's misdirection. If you cared about the FBI's abuses, you would be talking about someone other than Clinton. She's been handled with kid gloves. People who have done less than her have gone down hard.
But you have no interest in the FBI applying any kind of consistent standard. And it doesn't fucking matter who you're voting for. Your sympathy is with the Democrats even if you cast a vote for the Green Party or whatever.
Now, I don't give a shit that you're sympathetic to Democrats. I'm sympathetic to (some) Republicans. It ain't fucking news and it doesn't address the underlying arguments.
But sympathies and facts are not the same thing. I presented a rebuttal, albeit sarcastically, to what you said. You ignored it. Why? Because you don't care to rebut it. You'd rather argue about the who than the what.
Have fun!
... and then you just run away.
Ta ta!
Brave, Brave, sir Robin....

"Have fun!"
Die in a fire, asshole!
So we should feel bad for Hilary becauae Comey tried (badly) to salvage some integrity from the corrupt orders he got from Lynch to close down the investigation? That is what you really want to go with?
Yep, get all the emails released immediately. Then there can be no prosecution, because the whole world is a tainted jury pool. (Not that there was anything wrong at all, we just want justice served.)
Any truth to the rumor that the earthquakes in Italy were caused by all the founding fathers spinning in their graves simultaneously?
I have to laugh at the Dems suggestion that all the emails be released. Even if they are duplicates (especially if there are duplicates), they almost certainly contain classified material.
Yeah, that is precisely why they came up with this demand. It is completely self-serving and cannot possibly be complied with. So they get a PR win and it doesn't cost anything.
The only surprise is that the press and pundits are running with it. It is a laugh-out-loud ridiculous demand that anyone with a room temperature IQ should be able to see through.
Well then it sounds like this PR move is going to gain some traction.
Hey! My country resembles that remark..
Look, Scott = he's as mad as anybody about that, if not madder. And he only just learned about it from the same place you did, reading the reports in the newspapers. And he's going to demand that someone get to the bottom of this and provide some answers.
Rumor has it the emails were in a folder titled "Life Insurance".
This Wall Street Journal article makes an excellent case that what we're talking about here isn't really Comey. It's about the Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, and it's Barack Obama that we should be screaming about.
"Mr. Comey's authority extends only to supervising the gathering of facts to be presented to Justice Department lawyers for their confidential determination of whether those facts justify a federal prosecution."
http://www.wsj.com/articles/th.....1477863402
Despite Comey determining that there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute, that wasn't Comey's decision to make. It's the job of the Attorney General to decide whether to prosecute.
That is old news.
The implications are new.
So was the satire of Clinton's career long deflection canard. But once again this election proves to be satire-proof.
^ This.
GIven the conflict of interest, there should have been a special prosecutor assigned to the case.
So why didn't Loretta Lynch hold the press conference herself and make the determination? Why did she send Comey to mouth her determination on her behalf and let it seem like it was his decision to make?
Two reasons:
1) Loretta Lynch met with Bill Clinton on the tarmac. What they discussed is unknown, but if the determination not to prosecute were made by Loretta Lynch in return for something the Clintons promised her, making the determination herself would open her up to all sorts of potential for prosecution.
2) Barack Obama communicated under a pseudonym to Hillary Clinton's email address apparently because he knew it was insecure. If Hillary Clinton can be prosecuted for knowingly using an insecure email server, then so can Barack Obama. All of the communications between Obama and Lynch would become suspect if Lynch were to make the determination not to prosecute Hillary. Is this just a coverup?
Obama can claim executive privilege on any communications he has with his secretary of state. I don't see a path to prosecution there.
When he said he didn't know, was it under oath?
The email is already known and known to be his.
I think the president is the only person who can say classified is no longer classified at will, so no harm to him on that end other than his lie about not knowing about the email server
Declaring that the latest information is "old news"? It's old news.
Time to moveon.org.
Al Gore may not have invented the internet, but the Clintons did invent this type of political website.
Obama just tossed Hillary under the bas.
http://www.cnbc.com/2016/10/31.....ision.html
Wow!
Obama either isn't getting Hillary's talking points, or he has indeed thrown her under the bus.
CNN had this "narrative" being planted from the inception. They were discussing the "scandal" in terms of Comey's decision and Wiener as villain #2. Then they brought in their just-off-the-campaign-plane embedded reporter.
She excitedly told us the tale of how she was there as the team created its response strategy. The pool reporters were discussing "rumors of a story" but had concluded that it was all just crazy rumors. But the Clinton team and periodically Clinton herself were gathered discussing their response. They came up with the idea that they should attack Comey's credibility and demand full transparency right there on the plane. She was amazed to hear that they were already talking about it on air when she landed.
The standup by the CNN pool reporter was very much an "I'm excited that I was in the loop as this major story broke and Clinton strategized a response". The fact that everything they were offering up as if it were their own independent thoughts was ripped straight from the Clinton script was completely lost on everyone present on air.
Election 2016 update:
I just made the run to pick up the kids at school. Earlier reports were of no yard signs.... last week we were up to 1 Trump sign.
Today, in heavily Democrat south Florida where mentioning Trump is a social faux pas, there were 9 Trump yard signs on my path and one Clinton sign. Two of the Trump signs were of the hand made variety - one is a big sheet of plywood with "Drain the Swamp, Vote Trump" hand lettered in what looks like leftover house paint. (Thanks buddy, now we know which house to avoid tonight during trick-or-treat)
So 9 to 1. That's pretty big for such a heavily Democrat area. My neighborhood is wealthier and probably more conservative than the rest of the county, also with a lot of police who work in surrounding areas, so we might skew a little more republican than the rest of the county. But it still surprises me. Our neighbor who has a son that works on a couple of Democrat campaigns still hasn't put up a yard sign.
Finally, there are more signs for county commissioner on my street than there are signs for president on the entire drive to the school. That has to mean something is different this time around.
So my anecdotal evidence: Trump yard signs and bumper stickers outnumber Clinton swag, despite his status as a social pariah. Trump and Kaine are consistently drawing large, enthusiastic crowds. Clinton is consistently drawing small and less enthusiastic crowds.
Polls are consistently oversampling democrats and minorities. Yet they show a slight (but electorally commanding) lead for Clinton.
Conclusion: Strange things are afoot at the circle K.
Where in SoFla?
In my mom's neighborhood in Weston it's 6-2-1 Trump-Clinton-Johnson as of last weekend. This is in a heavily white, middle to upper middle class neighborhood. It's in Debbie Wasserman Schultz's district.
In Fort Lauderdale, I've seen almost all Clinton signs, except for the one brave person with a Trump sign in Wilton Manors and the huge Trump signs on a law office near the courthoues.
I'm 4 miles north of Wilton Manors, east, in a waterfront neighborhood and the school is on the edge of Ft. Lauderdale. I cannot imagine a Trump sign in Wilton Manors (it is the local gay enclave, for those not familiar with the area). It is almost worth driving down there just to see it. Kinda like making a pilgrimage to the world's largest ball of string.
We will be trick-or-treating in a northern Ft. Lauderdale neighborhood, east, but not on the water tonight. It is upper middle class, so should be a good gauge. I'll keep a tally of campaign swag.
I was kind of surprised to see it too. Noticed it just off the main road behind that strip of stores that has New York Grilled Cheese and the Rock Hard Lovers Boutique.
' world's largest ball of string.'
Nice Sam and Max reference.
I have not counted, but I see far more Trump than Hillary signs in suburban NJ. Doesn't mean that the cities here won't carry the state for Hillary, but it certainly wasn't that way the last few times.
I saw the Trump sign-wavers in Clearwater, FL for the first time. It was like something out of an SNL skit, if SNL were funny. I think my favorite part was the short, dark skinned woman with her two kids waiting to cross from their corner, who they didn't harrass or even seem to notice. It is certainly possible that her forebears have been US citizens for longer than mine, but I really wanted to frame her and her kids up under a "Build the Wall" sign being waved. Lots of support honks, too.
My neighborhood is 2 Johnson signs, 1 Trump. None of them mine.
Wow, 2 Johnson signs! That's huge. Or UUUUGE in this season, I suppose.
We had a Rand sign during the primaries. Nobody has been so bold as to out themselves as a Libertarian so far.
My 6 year old announced that she was supporting Trump on the way home from school. That's why I noticed the signs, she yelled out Yeaay Trump and Boooo Clinton as we passed the signs. When I asked her why she was supporting Trump, she said it was because she liked his voice, which made me smile.
When she asked me if I was voting for Trump or Clinton, she was a little confused when I said I couldn't support either one of those candidates. I told her I always vote for more freedom, so I'm voting for Gary Johnson. She took that in stride and then said "I love you more than chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles on top". So I counted that as a great day.
Oh, and I told her not to mention anything about Trump to her mom. She might just stroke out if she heard any of that.
Awwww, you have such a cute little trumpkin.
She's a stone-cold libertarian.... she's just way too young to know it. She's a Ronda Rousey style feminist. The idea of asking someone else to help her, stand up for her, provide for her are all anathema, let alone the notion that anyone dare tell her what to do. Not a single chance in this world she becomes a socialist.
I've mentioned that there's one Johnson sign on my way to work. The house happens to be opposite a nursing home.
I don't put up campaign signs, since I'm at the end of a dead-end road and have a 1000-foot driveway. Nobody would see the damn things.
"When I asked her why she was supporting Trump, she said it was because she liked his voice, which made me smile."
It also probably had to do with the fact that his vocabulary and grasp of the issues are compatible with a 6-year-old's.
Well, some 6 year olds. My kid speaks in complete sentences.
Finally, there are more signs for county commissioner on my street than there are signs for president on the entire drive to the school.
That's what I see in my moderately Repub neighborhood (where you couldn't go 50 ft without seeing an Obama sign in 2008)- no Trump or Clinton signs, just local races...
smoking guns (insert joke about dick pics here)
MY penis vapes, thank you very much. No pics, but I do have etchings if anyone would care to come up and see them some time...
RE: Welcome to the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, Director Comey!
The weekend reactions are both a reminder and a preview of how Clinton handles a scandal.
Now don't any of you little people fret none out there.
Once Heil Hitlary becomes president, there will be no more talk about her scandals.
If you want to criticize Hillary, you'd better enjoy it while you can.
Everyone tied to this idiot's emails and who condone or act as apologists can pretty much go fuck themselves pretty much.
Please let PM Zoolander be tied to these emails.
Scott Adams' take on this is pretty interesting. I disagree with almost all of his personal opinions, I think, but he was the only member of the media taking trump at all seriously eighteen months ago
' Even Libertarian Party vice presidential nominee Bill Weld criticized Comey's letter...'
Even? Bill the shill has been pushing Hillary's bloated corpse over the finishing line for a while.
Still not as big a mistake as when the LP put up Bob Barr and Wayne Allen Root.
Peter Thiel Speech Supporting Trump at National Press Club
i think thiel is a brilliant guy, but he's thinking too much....
I usually don't like listening to Thiel, he likes big gov't spending on big science, but this talk is pretty good. Even if Reason would call him out on some of the facts, he seems to at least willing to entertain some things that Reason and most of the anti-Trump left is largely blind to because they aren't documented fact or as easily exploitable as talking lewdly about women.
Whoops, meant that in response to N,R,&X's post above.
You really think that a situation like this would represent "more of the same" carelessness by Clinton? Hey! These emails are on somebody ELSE'S server and, if they don't have the proper clearance, . . . This is far, FAR more serious and there is absolutely no possible way that this isn't a felony!
yeah, i think it was the wrong political tactic to go after comey, but it's all she knows.
Gutsy. It was obvious he knew that the news would leak, and that he got out in front of it and stated the plain truth that nothing else is yet known. As he said in the letter, the public would not be happy if it were covered up until after the election. Way to trust the voters! Give him whistle-blower status (that is to say, "protection").
that's one thing that bugs me. it keeps getting presented as if comey put it out there for everyone. he simply sent it to congress, and now he's getting blamed b/c congress can't keep their mouth shut.
Ah yes, Bill Weld chiming in where his TRUE loyalties lay. The Democratic party and the liberals.
She wants to be the first president with a vagina. He grabs them by the vagina. His hands are big (or small depending on the source). She has leaked email in the possession of the dick pic man with a last name of Weiner who sends pornographic text to underage girl(s?). Madonna offers to blow me if I vote for a Clinton.
Sex the vote! All this election lacks is a porn star. Maybe next time.
And fuck Weld.

The Left might be crooked as a stick in water, but they're not stupid.
Comey is desperately trying to save his backside because like us, he knows the gig is up.
The rats are the first to know when the ship is sinking.

Maybe she already had one in the chamber.
Jeez, you're just like the guys who whine about paresecs being a unit of distance.
Yeah, that's right, she already had a round chambered! Three plus one, that's the ticket!
To tell you the truth, in all the excitement, I kind lost count myself.
I was all engaged in the story too, and then, WTF? Where'd the extra round come from? But still, it was good stuff.
^^^^ Clumsy attempt at denial that proves the allegation accurate.
Yeah, that's right, she already had a round chambered!
Nice save, there, Tino.-D (Yes, I remember...)
