    Be quiet, plebes!

    1. Azathoth!!   9 years ago

don't say a word about those pesky videos that show massive Democrat corruption, vote fraud, and violence

  2. SparktheRevolt   9 years ago

Wait, how is this different than just being on twitter?

    1. Col. Chestbridge   9 years ago

You get the benefit of the H&R commenters' sparkling wit.

  3. Col. Chestbridge   9 years ago

Pre-stream advertisement: Man in the High Castle. Coincidence? Or timely warning?

    1. Intraveneous Woodchipper   9 years ago

Season 1 started off being interesting but I haven't gotten all the way through yet.

How does the Reason commentariat rate the show?

      1. Cdr Lytton   9 years ago

I liked it a lot, although it's been a while since I read the book so my memory of any plot details was pretty much gone.

      2. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

I enjoyed it. It is far from perfect, but it was enjoyable. The head Nazi guy was awesome, and the lead actress is one of the loves of my life.

      3. John Titor   9 years ago

Meh, it's got problems but it's fine. The head Nazi guy is awesome, and the almost cartoony depiction of Nazi/Japanese America is pretty great. They changed some stuff from the book which actually improved it (alternative universe film reels instead of a book) and some stuff that didn't (the main female lead in the book made her decisions by the I-Ching, so some of her weirder moves make sense because they're 'random', in the show she makes them herself and comes off as kind of flighty and stupid).

      4. Chipper Morning Wood   9 years ago

        I highly recommend it.

      5. Raven Nation   9 years ago

Very good to excellent. Looking forward to S2.

  4. Shit Gary Johnson Says, Jr.   9 years ago

We ask that all HnR commenters remain silent during the debate.

    1. SugarFree   9 years ago

      SHOW US YOUR PUSSY!

      1. Shit Gary Johnson Says, Jr.   9 years ago

So's you can write your infamous fanfiction about it? I think not.

        1. SugarFree   9 years ago

Is it worse than my imagination?

          1. Shit Gary Johnson Says, Jr.   9 years ago

Cthulu itself is less scary than your imagination, sir.

      2. Hyperion   9 years ago

        We'll grab it!

      3. Rational Exuberance   9 years ago

I think in HRC's case, that is a vagina dentata.

    2. Col. Chestbridge   9 years ago

      *retrieves vuvuzela*

  5. SugarFree   9 years ago

Hmm... white pantsuit, like a lesbian bride.

    1. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

      Mao suit.

      1. SugarFree   9 years ago

Mao would have never stood for buttons off center.

      2. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

        beat me to it

      3. Hyperion   9 years ago

        Grandmao Pantsuit to rulez!

    2. Hyperion   9 years ago

Won't be good if the depends don't hold up.

      1. SugarFree   9 years ago

I would imagine the whole thing is rubber-lined and sealed at the cankles. She could probably piss a gallon before she starts sloshing loudly enough for the mics to pick up.

        1. Hyperion   9 years ago

          I lol'd

        2. Chipper Morning Wood   9 years ago

If you watch her face closely enough, you can tell when she is peeing.

    3. John   9 years ago

She is to lesbians what the white buffalo is to the Sioux. The white pants suit has deep religious meaning.

      1. SugarFree   9 years ago

Lizzie Warren is so excited right now.

  6. Shit Gary Johnson Says, Jr.   9 years ago

"What kind of rights Americans are going to have" - ooh, more rights headed our way!

  7. Ken Shultz   9 years ago

I'm gonna keep an open mind, here, but for the good of the country, Hillary Clinton should eat shit.

Just right on camera, Hillary. Take it out of your pocketbook and eat shit.

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

Normally that wouldn't be funny, but I larfed.

  8. Rhywun   9 years ago

    "Dark money"? RAAA-

    1. Ted S.   9 years ago

Sung to the tune of Cher's "Dark Lady".

  9. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

The purpose of the Supreme Court is to uphold the Constitution, you dumb broad. And dark money is what has financed your campaign.

  10. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

Anyone who opens up with 'you know' should be disqualified!

  11. Rhywun   9 years ago

    She's so folksy.

    1. Ken Shultz   9 years ago

You know what would be real folksy?

. . . is if Hillary would take some shit out of her pocketbook and eat it.

Eat shit, Hillary! You know you want to.

    2. Rational Exuberance   9 years ago

It took 17 focus groups and 122 hours of analysis to come up with those folksy lines.

  12. Ken Shultz   9 years ago

    She's against Citizens United.

Why should corporations be free to spend money on campaigns. Why can't candidates get their money from foreign countries instead?

  13. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

DO YOUR JOB ACCORDING TO WHAT WE SAY!

    1. Ken Shultz   9 years ago

I say Hillary should eat shit.

      On. Camera.

      1. Col. Chestbridge   9 years ago

I am genuinely unsure how that would affect her chances of winning the election. It could go either way.

      2. Jimbo   9 years ago

Ken is a single issue voter.

  14. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

Someone took away Trump's cocaine. He sounds dejected.

  15. Shit Gary Johnson Says, Jr.   9 years ago

"I support the Second Amendment" - see, rest easy, everybody.

    1. Rational Exuberance   9 years ago

If you like your Second Amendment, you can keep your Second Amendment.

  16. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

    Hillary is going full cunt.

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

      Never go full cunt.

  17. Rhywun   9 years ago

So she fake-supports the RTKBA in upstate NY but not downstate?

  18. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

Drink! Hillaryvsaid she supports 2A. drink again!

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

      Bullshit, but I drank.

  19. Brochettaward   9 years ago

I don't recall the Supreme Court being a representative body in the Constitution. Must have missed that part.

People with guns aren't allowed to threaten to kill me or my family. This bitch still won't answer if she views the second amendment as an individual right.

    1. Dallas H.   9 years ago

Hey! The 2nd amendment is about protecting toddlers. Everyone knows that.

  20. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

This just in Heller was about protecting toddlers from guns.

  21. Rhywun   9 years ago

Won't somebody think of the toddlers!?!?!?!

  22. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

She is ridiculous. Dozens of toddlers my ass.

    1. OBJ FRANKELSON   9 years ago

Your ass and dozen of toddlers... That sounds more like OMWCs schtick.

      1. BakedPenguin   9 years ago

"This is a prostate, kids! Prrrrrrostate"

  23. Brochettaward   9 years ago

    THERE'S A TODDLER GENOCIDE PEOPLE!

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

      By clown apocalypse?

      1. Brochettaward   9 years ago

By guns. Even clowns with guns.

        1. Hyperion   9 years ago

Clowns with guns, the scariest new scary epidemic that's sweeping the nation, ever.

          1. BakedPenguin   9 years ago

Clowns with guns on meth - brought in by Mexicans!

  24. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

    DOZENS!

  25. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

Dozens only? Dozens of toddlers injure themselves with plastic bags.

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

And toasters, and tricycles and stuff, I mean pretty much everything.

    2. Ted S.   9 years ago

I think the death figures for under-5s killed by gunshot is in the two-digit range annually.

  26. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

Yes, it's in conflict. YES IT IS.

  27. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

Hillary is really sounding angry there.

    1. Intraveneous Woodchipper   9 years ago

      Shrill, perhaps?

Your misogynist dog whistle has no validity here, good sir!

      1. Rational Exuberance   9 years ago

        Misogyny, the Musical

  28. Col. Chestbridge   9 years ago

Won't someone think of the toddlers!

  29. Troy muy grande boner   9 years ago

We need to outlaw toddlers. That will stop the scourge of Toddler killings.

  30. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

    Chicago reference.

  31. GILMORE?   9 years ago

    I can't do this.

Someone do me a favor and collect a few of the.... anything witty that Reason writers might tweet.

by witty i mean.... not shikha. If Robby makes a joke about sexual assault, that might be notable.

god speed. (goes back to drinking and playing w/ Ableton)

  32. OBJ FRANKELSON   9 years ago

Don't mind me, I'll just be over here watching my Cubs flush a great season down the commode.

    1. OBJ FRANKELSON   9 years ago

So my cynicism was ill founded. But then I am the a Cubs fan, the most pessimistic optimists you shall ever find.

  33. Brochettaward   9 years ago

    Now we move onto...abortion.

  34. Hyperion   9 years ago

I'm glad some of you brave souls are watching this. I just can't. I have to keep what little sanity I have left, job requires it.

  35. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

    Wallace is professional so far.

I hope Anderson and the other three idiots Holt, Crowley and Raddatz are watching.

    1. Shit Gary Johnson Says, Jr.   9 years ago

He's being tough - fairly - to both candidates. Already the best moderator IMO.

      1. Brochettaward   9 years ago

It's a very low bar. He's fair and not going for gottcha questions. But he's dry and not going to give Trump many chances for kill shots and, frankly, it's the only reason to watch this shit. Trump can't coherently articulate most of his positions and HIllary just lies her ass off with slightly more sophisticated bullshit.

        1. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

Yes, it's favoring Hillary's bull shit style.

  36. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

Abortion. Over turn Roe? Yes to the states.

  37. Troy muy grande boner   9 years ago

    Fuck. Roe V. Wade

  38. SugarFree   9 years ago

"Return to me, evangelical voters," Donald whispered.

    1. Rhywun   9 years ago

      Right?!

      1. SugarFree   9 years ago

Utah is just the tip of the spear. They aren't going to vote for Hillary, but they might stay home in disgust.

Donald is doing very well so far, but he's shoring up his base rather than bring in undecideds.

  39. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

'I have my own gut wrenching story...when I tried to abort Chelsea but that bastard stopped me...don't let this happen to YOU!'

  40. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

Hitlery: so many states are... Defunding planned parenthood... I will defend it.

  41. Ken Shultz   9 years ago

I think Hillary should make the brave and intimate choice to eat shit.

Just reach into her pocketbook, pull out some shit, and eat it--just like she wants to with that shit eating grin.

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

She can't eat any more shit, she's already full of it.

      1. Hyperion   9 years ago

One more bite and she explodes, a shitplosion!

        1. Rhywun   9 years ago

          One thin waffer!

  42. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

Dunno about you but anything that has the word 'planned' in its title should be held with suspicion.

  43. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

Don't we have instant replay to get the calls right?

  44. AlmightyJB   9 years ago

    That pants suit is racist

    1. Ken Shultz   9 years ago

      It's sexual appropriation.

  45. Ken Shultz   9 years ago

    She wants to regulate abortion?

She's gotta be losing fans here.

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

And supports the 2nd amendment? WTF? The dementia is setting in, progs outraged.

  46. DOOMco   9 years ago

how much did PP spend on campaign ads?
    How much do they get?

  47. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

I offered to eat their babies.

    1. Ken Shultz   9 years ago

      She is a baby-eater!

A baby-eater who also eats shit.

  48. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

Hildog: i have met women who have horrible pregnancies.

    1. AlmightyJB   9 years ago

Never too late to abort. Just don't use a gun.

  49. Robert   9 years ago

Bloggers, it's one thing to assert in a vacuum that Trump's gonna trash the SC...but when he's actually asked direct questions about court nominations, he's giving the "correct" answers, & youse guys are just going according to feelz that he means the opposite.

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

His foreign policy sounds a lot better than Hillary's also. But saying that means you're a Trumpet.

  50. DOOMco   9 years ago

why am i listening to this

    1. AlmightyJB   9 years ago

I'm not watching. Just reading comments. You guys should just start making shit up.

      1. DOOMco   9 years ago

AND THE DON COMES BACK IN WITH A FOLDING CHAIR!

        1. Hyperion   9 years ago

And now Hilldawg is chewing on his leg!

      2. Hyperion   9 years ago

Trumps hair piece just flew off and Hillary's diaper exploded.

      3. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

I can't believe that! Hillary just reached into her Depends, took out a handful of shit, and ate it right on stage!

        1. AlmightyJB   9 years ago

          That wouldn't surprise me

  51. Intraveneous Woodchipper   9 years ago

Anybody with a functioning cerebral cortex should be slaying Hilldabeast right now. Trump is 100% lozard brain, sadly.

    1. Dallas H.   9 years ago

Yeah. It's sad how many easy opportunities he misses to crush idiotic things she says and logical fallacies.

  52. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

Ok... So Hillary is defending late term abortions and then saying Trump is obfuscating the issue by describing the procedure.

  53. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

The government has no business....she should expand the list.

  54. SugarFree   9 years ago

Hillary finds some small area of life that the government should stay out of.

    1. DOOMco   9 years ago

      No loosies for sale though.

      1. AlmightyJB   9 years ago

        Wiping away kitten tears?

  55. Brochettaward   9 years ago

Through three debates, Wallace is the first one to bring up immigration. Though he claims there's a large gap...well, depends on which version of Hillary we listen to or when.

  56. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

Trump is excited by immigration. Lets see if he can hit this out of the park.

  57. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

Has there been a candidate this late in the game so willing to be pro-life like Trump?

  58. Shit Gary Johnson Says, Jr.   9 years ago

Trump needs an antagonistic moderator, frankly.

  59. Troy muy grande boner   9 years ago

Wow the cunt didn't deny that killing a baby a couple days prior to its due date is reprehensible.

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

She would probably eat it while still alive.

      1. Rational Exuberance   9 years ago

Would? What do you think is the "drug" that's allowing her to appear at campaign events?

  60. Ceci n'est pas un woodchipper   9 years ago

I don't have enough liquor to make this palatable.

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

I'd get alcohol poisoning if I watched that shit. Not good, I have to work tomorrow.

  61. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

New Hampshire should be annexed by Canada.

    /ducks.

    1. waffles   9 years ago

Just try it. Live free or die motherfucker.

      1. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

        Enjoy your illegal Massachusetts immigrants.

      2. John Titor   9 years ago

Look, if you're really going to pick a fight, New Hampshire is probably one of the few states we could actually win a war against. You've got like, what, a couple thousand national guardsmen and a closed air force base?

    2. Col. Chestbridge   9 years ago

You'd have better success annexing Minnesota.

  62. DOOMco   9 years ago

    what is this, 9.5%?
    *slams beer*

  63. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

    Trump: bad hombres

  64. waffles   9 years ago

This debate is too tightly moderated. I was promised mudslinging!

    1. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

      It's Vegas, for christ sake.

  65. Rhywun   9 years ago

    "Stop the drugs!"

    Oh brother.

"I have another sob story in the audience..."

    OH BROTHER.

  66. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

Hillary is pulling out all the anecdotes.

    Anecdote Hillary!

    1. 0x90   9 years ago

      Anecdotallary?

  67. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

"As he was talking about this, I was choosing which anecdote to recite..."

  68. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

    11 million with 4million children

  69. Shit Gary Johnson Says, Jr.   9 years ago

    Hillary: The small-government candidate.

  70. DOOMco   9 years ago

    I like this style more.

  71. Troy muy grande boner   9 years ago

WE would have to round up people and put them on buses to get rid of illegals..... so when do we start?

    1. Dallas H.   9 years ago

Maybe just drop them off after they finish voting? Two birds with one bus.

      1. Shit Gary Johnson Says, Jr.   9 years ago

The first, second, third, or fourth vote?

  72. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

NATION OF COMPREHENSION AND COMMON SENSE.

  73. LibertarianJRT   9 years ago

    Trump: Very nice man.

  74. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

I'm calling it: Jason Heyward is a bust.

  75. waffles   9 years ago

    WAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL

  76. Rhywun   9 years ago

Bullshit. You can't build anything in NYC with "undocumented labor".

    1. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

      Mafia won't allow it.

    2. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

Inspectors are all over construction sites.

  77. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

My take from glancing at the Tweets: Dalmia doesn't like Trump.

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

      Shocking revelation.

  78. Brochettaward   9 years ago

Is Chris Wallace going to have to choke a bitch?

  79. DOOMco   9 years ago

reform is a nice blank word to put your dreams into

  80. DOOMco   9 years ago

    HOLYSHITTTTTTT

  81. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

Trump, don't thank the moderator for doing your job for you.

  82. Brochettaward   9 years ago

Hillary claiming that Hillary only meant open borders...for energy...

No, that isn't what you said, you lying piece of shit.

    1. DOOMco   9 years ago

we trade more energy with our neighbors than others though!

  83. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

    Russia! Drink.

  84. DOOMco   9 years ago

    Drink drink drink drink

  85. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

That's a pretty big assertion about Russia. Proof?

  86. grrizzly   9 years ago

The bitch is doing Russia bashing.

  87. Troy muy grande boner   9 years ago

So she admits the wikileaks document is true.

  88. Shit Gary Johnson Says, Jr.   9 years ago

Uh, Hill, the AMERICAN government has conducted espionage against American citizens.

    Cunt.

    1. John   9 years ago

They have also droned striked American citizens. But that was the chocolate Jesus so it was okay.

      1. Rational Exuberance   9 years ago

Hillary had to approve it, didn't she?

    2. DOOMco   9 years ago

      right??

  89. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

Okay, that was nice, Trump. Call her out on her pivot.

  90. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

    Nailed it! PIVOT!

    1. waffles   9 years ago

Canadians are interfering in the American political process!

      1. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

If we were YOU'D KNOW IT!

        1. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

          No we wouldn't.

      2. John Titor   9 years ago

We already tried that with our Manchurian Candidate Cruz, didn't work.

  91. Dallas H.   9 years ago

Nice conspiracy theories, Hillary. Got any proof at all?

  92. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

    Why is she laughing?

    1. Hyperion   9 years ago

      The drugs?

    2. Dallas H.   9 years ago

That face is horrifying. It's the craziest, creepiest face.

    3. Rational Exuberance   9 years ago

Somebody accidentally pushed the wrong button on her remote control.

      1. Tim from Philly   9 years ago

This actually made me laugh. What is wrong with me?

Hillary's best response to getting her ass kicked on Putin/Russia...Trump can't be trusted with his finger on the nuclear button. Can't deny she's playing brinksmanship (I'm being generous there - truthfully she's just incompetent), though.

    1. John   9 years ago

She is up there accusing the Russians of acts of war without any proof. But Trump is the dangerous one.

    2. Ted S.   9 years ago

The Democrat in the local US House race is running an ad decrying that the Republicans claim she wants to start a nuclear war. (I've never seen the ad she's complaining about, which makes me wonder since the ad breaks in the local news are nothing but campaign ads.)

      2. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

        She absolutely will.

There's not enough people earning over 250k to pay for all the entitlements and free crap she promised.

        1. kbolino   9 years ago

          To wit:

There are about 125 million households in this country.

Only about 3% of them make at least $250,000. The mean income for households in this group is about $400,000. A 5% tax increase for income over $250,000 would net $28 billion.

About 21.5% of households make between $100,000 and $250,000. The mean income for households in this group is about $146,000. A 5% tax increase for income between $100,000 and $250,000 would net $62 billion.

That leaves about 75.5% of households making less than $100,000. Their mean income is about $42,500. A 5% tax increase for income under $100,000 would net $197 billion.

Now you know why taxes in Europe are high for everyone.

      3. kbolino   9 years ago

So, in other words, she lied and/or is innumerate.

The chattering class does not like uncertainty; the hag is reliably corrupt. She stays bought.

  186. Derpetologist   9 years ago

OT: The Army football team has lost to the Navy every year since 2002. The most interesting theory I heard to explain this is that the reason is the Army players tend to be lighter because of the Army's stricter weight standards, and so their defensive line is not as solid as the Navy's.

The max Navy enlistment weight for a 5'9" male is 186 for all ages. For the Army, it's 169 for ages 17-20 and 171 for ages 21-27.

So, at first glance, the theory looks plausible.

    1. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

Navy has also had superior coaches and players. Far superior, even.

    2. Steve G   9 years ago

Went to AF. Doubtful on the theory: entry weight (if even applicable to recruited cadets vs regular enlistees) and playing weight can be completely different. Sure, they've gotta meet some standards wearing the uniform for 4 years and meet AD standards once commissioned, but trust me they have a lot of latitude. Also, the players ate at separate tables w/ extra food, even during basic. ...but I'm not bitter 26 yrs later.

      1. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

You AF guys wake up at like 7:30, while those West Pointers are up at like 6. They have it rough.

        1. Steve G   9 years ago

LOL. Marched to breakfast for 4 yrs at 0700, pretty much the same as Army. And we had a tougher freshman year.

I happened to link the 'watchdog' when the CF was called 'unclassifiable' since 'it didn't match any of their (the watchdog's) business models'. So they couldn't figure out what in hell was going on.
A week later, I checked and now it was highly rated, and a search showed that the CF was a 'partner' with the watchdog.

"She passed classified State Dept. messages over an unsecured server. Giving secrets to foreign agents is pretty much the definition of treason."

*EVERY* country's intel has someone or many assigned to the US SoS or foreign equivalent, and those assigned are not the gamers who just came on board.
Within hours of that server going on-line, there was rejoicing from Pyongyang to Canberra, the long way around. There is not a government considered even somewhat above "3rd-world" status that does not have a complete copy of what was on that server. The only reason Putin hasn't released the data is pure self-interest; he has enough to have an idea of what that hag is going to do when she takes office (to SIV's tears).
She might just as well have printed it out and mailed copies to countries starting with Albania and ending with Zimbabwe.

When Trump made his comment on Aleppo, he was clearly saying that the city was lost. And it is. There's no serious question there militarily. And why doesn't anyone seem to ask Obama what the hell is he going to do about Aleppo?

I'm also confused because the NYT's tells me Aleppo is the capital of ISIS, and NBC tells me that Assad and Putin aren't killing ISIS.

  237. VG Zaytsev   9 years ago

    Trumps right about Mosul.

The analogy that he should have made is that focusing on Mosul today is just like Johnsons obsession with obscure vilages in Vietnam. We'd spent weeks to months fighting tomcaptur some obscure village that was a supposed communist stagin and command center nay to find out after its capture that the commies had moved on and then completely abandon the site.

    1. kbolino   9 years ago

Here's a fun statistic for you:

If the tax rate on income over $250,000 were raised to 100%, it would only halve the yearly increase in the debt.

      1. american socialist   9 years ago

        No, that's incorrect.

        1. kbolino   9 years ago

You're right, it wouldn't even close the nominal budget deficit!

Ain't that much money in the upper strata you communist thief. Gonna have to go after the working man to pay for socialist utopia.

          1. SimonD   9 years ago

From what I had seen, raising taxes to 100% on everyone making over $250K per year (on all of their earnings, not just the part over 250K) would basically cover the deficit, without shrinking the debt.

Of course, the side effect is that you could only do it once.

            1. kbolino   9 years ago

How would you even enforce such a thing for that one year? People just wouldn't make more than $250,000 if you announced it advance. You'd have to set the scheme in play the day before tax day, which means no extra revenue from withholding, and most of the people you'd be taxing wouldn't even have the money on hand to pay the tax by then. Either the courts would have to strike it down or else start confiscating assets.

              1. SimonD   9 years ago

I was mainly being facetious. I wasn't making a serious policy proposal. The idea is: once you do it once, everyone will realize it as a possibility and find workarounds in case it happens again.

In reality you would just have massive tax evasion (or just a revolt).

Hmm. maybe this isn't such a bad idea after all.

We have to tax the evil rich making more than $250, 000, wait ... $150, 000... this math still isn't working... $40, 000 a year!

        1. Derpetologist   9 years ago

Same thing with Russia. Since they were built by the same guys whose TVs kept exploding, I expect that in an actual nuclear war, about half of their missiles would fall apart in the sky on their way here. Unfortunately, half an apocalypse is still the apocalypse.

Soviet television sets tended to explode, because of faulty manufacturing. The surprising and alarming propensity of Russian receivers to blow up, and by extension the apprehension it causes in Soviet viewers, was one of the stranger features of Soviet life. By one estimate, sixty percent of all apartment fires in Moscow are caused by mass-produced Soviet television sets, which hada tendency to explode. Of the 715 apartment fires in Moscow in November 1987, 90 were blamed on exploding television sets, a statistic the Soviet press viewed as an alarming commentary on Soviet technology. Police said three television models notorious for defective wiring are being removed from the market, and millions of warning leaflets have been mailed to television owners.

(*and "middle class" is a political idea that seems to include everyone who 'has a job' and wants to send kids to college. - unlike the RichPeople Classes, who own companies and shit, and have lots of investments, and the Working Classes, who no one actually admits to ever being, but are actually the people who mostly Dont Have Jobs and live off a mix of govt handouts and make-work municipal occupations and have no ambitions for their children to do differently)

Because.... see, i'm sure there's a way we can stimulate "Growth" without any of the Bad People? getting any!! What we need to do is encourage investment (to create jobs for those middle classes)... but then tax away all the profits from investment! FOOLED YOU, RICHFAGS!! They'll totally fall for it, too.

Really, that seems to be the fantasy = that we can have "Prosperity without Disparity" - and bring wealth to the average moe while punishing the "wealthy" for their hubris.

(*of course, no one ever defines where the middle-classes ownership of stuff gets to be 'too much', do they? I guess they're allowed to have stuff, its just all going to be taxed away when they die. that way they avoid being RichPeople)

This debate made me desperately wish that a competent Republican had been up there.

Rand Paul would have been my choice, but Cruz is very sharp and knowledgeable and would not let all of those hanging curve balls just sit there. Clinton was desperately weak in this debate with her talking point pivots and rehearsed canned lines. Cruz may be bereft of charisma and charm, but he's smart enough to have evicerated the opposition in this format.

Instead we got a babbling brook of nonsense, who was almost incomprehensible even when he happened to be right.

The LP needs to get it together and coach up a real representative before the next go-around. Johnson has been a pretty good "we are not a bunch of nuts" serious candidate. Next time out, we need a passionate, charismatic representative for our philosophy who can break through and get our ideas onto the national stage.

I still say the right answer is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Somebody give this guy a call. Given 3 years to prepare, he could be a formidable candidate.

    1. Dallas H.   9 years ago

      Pretty much.

    2. That's A Bingo!   9 years ago

The Rock for LP candidate? If we are going for Hollywood, how about Vince Vaughn?

      1. Cyto   9 years ago

Not dynamic enough. The Rock spent more than a decade in an improvisational public performance art line of work that was pretty much exactly the kind of experience you need for making campaign appearances.

    3. Robert   9 years ago

If Johnson was fairly good, why'd he do so bad in the race for the 2012 GOP nomination? Sure, he looks like a bigger fish in the smaller pond of the LP, but how does that get a prez elected?

    4. John Titor   9 years ago

Cruz's biggest issue is his personality. Guy's a bit of a 'high school nerd' stereotype grown up; he's got a bit of an inflated ego where being right is better than actually winning. Honestly, I think his social issues create a general aura around him that turns people off. Paul's a lot more personable, he's even got one of those semi-folksy accents to help!

      1. commodious plays tuna piano   9 years ago

Cruz would'nt be running against Bubba. He'd have run against Hillary, the Ice Shrew.

Can we take a moment of silent condescension to reflect on just how fucking stupid Trump voters are? I am once again question universal franchise because these dumb fucking retards put up this paper tiger in lieu of an actual candidate. Jesus fucking Christ what a goddamn shit show. Fuck these people.

        1. John Titor   9 years ago

Welcome to partisan politics, where single issue idiot voters can turn the tide! Everyone ignoring your nutso rants about Mexicans? We got a guy for you! Tired of political correctness? This guy doesn't even know what that is!

I was reading the comments on that Red State article about Rand Paul, and one uber-Republican was ranting about how he won't do anything about Syria. His recommendation was to set up a no-fly zone over Syria, call any aircraft within in Syrian, and shoot down Russian planes, "because we did it in Korea". Korea. From when the U.S. had overwhelming international support and the Soviet Union didn't have nukes, and warfare hasn't changed at all in sixty years. Trump supporters aren't the only morons.

          1. commodious plays tuna piano   9 years ago

If there's any proof there never was and won't ever be a libertarian moment, this season was it. Liberty is over, friends, and we're squabbling over crumbs. I mean in broad strokes. No, Hillary isn't going to steal your guns. No, despite Trump's best efforts, there's not going to be a great American enclosure. But still, it's obvious where the impetus lays. There's no profit and certainly no political benefit to be garnered from championing deregulation or entitlement reform, the issues most pertinent to broad-brush American interests today. For the foreseeable future there's no major reforms likely, just a bunch of edge-trimming and managed decline into Eurocratic expectations of slow growth and high unemployment. Gone will be the days of huge technological upheavals: that's a relic of a time when you didn't have to live in fear of your investment being upended and subsumed by bureaucrats.

      1. Cyto   9 years ago

        Yes, that's the guy.

He's pretty sharp, too. No idea about his politics. I'll assume generic democrat with socially liberal leanings due to his profession and with fiscally conservative leanings due to having made a metric shit-ton of money as an entertainer.

He's a dynamic speaker who made his living by having an outsized personality to go with his outsized physique. He'd need intense coaching by the Jacket et. al. to get his libertarian philosophy in place... and then some intense coaching by those political operatives that run campaigns.

But Reagan proved that acting is a great background for becoming a politician. Particularly if you have a lot of experience in live improvisational work (Reagan had a background in radio as well). Arnold had a similar formula to become governor of California.

So yes, I'm a little tongue in cheek, but he would make a great candidate if he happened to actually have the correct beliefs and was actually interested in the job.

So, this is the story I've heard, I have done exactly zero to confirm it:
Back in the day, a 45 bullet's worth of lead was equal in value to 1 oz of whiskey. So, when the cowpokes wandered into town, after spending all their money but still desiring to drink more whiskey, they would trade a bullet for a "shot". Get it?
One serendipitous result was that the drunker a guy became, the less ammo he had.
Again, I have done zero research to confirm this, mostly because I'd like it to be true, and would rather not be disillusioned.

            1. Derpetologist   9 years ago

It's OK. The real etymology is even funnier:

The Oxford English Dictionary's first citation for the term "shot glass" is in The New York Timeswikipedia.org during the 1940s, but the earliest known written reference was in a 1913 book by Dr. Jehu Z. Powell, A History of Cass County Indiana from its Earliest Settlement to the Present Time [Lewis Publishing Company, 1913].

On page 655 Dr. Powell recounts an incident c. 1857 in the small town of New Waverly, Indiana, occasioned by a local man attempting to open a saloon against fierce local temperance opposition. The initial stock was a barrel of whiskey, which had arrived by train and was sitting on the open freight platform awaiting delivery to the would-be barkeeper. A local man who was an ardent temperance supporter fired his rifle from an upper floor window in his house and shot a hole in the barrel, draining it of its contents. "The remedy was effectual, and the saloon was not opened, and ever after, when the boys wanted a drink they would ask for a 'shot of redeye'".

              1. DenverJ   9 years ago

Shhhhh..... don't want to be disillusioned with the story that I like.

      1. "Blogs I've read" == echo chamber .... a group selected because of your interests reinforces your interests.

      2. Hillary's campaign proudly touted their social media and direct contact campaign to ensure that every journalist covering the debate would be inundated with the message that Hillary won - creating the perception that this was reality. It was their stated strategy going into the debates to get the instant media reaction in their favor, regardless of the actual debate.

Also, we learned from wikileaks that the Clinton campaign directly and closely coordinates with members of the media, including the main faces on TV and the editors at major newspapers. Of course they say Hillary won. They would have said this if she had caught fire and burned into a hole in the stage.

Well, AmSoc, the choice we are actually facing is between a corrupt, lying, unaccomplished, homophobic, war-mongering psychopath and an inarticulate, self-promoting, ass-grabbing orange gnome.

I'm pretty certain the orange gnome is the better choice.

Wouldn't it be easier to just invade Syria, install democracy, and let them all stay there?

      1. Hyperion   9 years ago

Seems like we tried installing democracy there once before and they didn't want it.

        1. Hyperion   9 years ago

So we have to bring them here where they also won't want a Western style government.

          1. DenverJ   9 years ago

We haven't tried with Syria. And Iraq would have been even better if a Clinton has been in charge instead of a Bush. Or something. Hell, let's just take over the whole world, install democracy, and sing kumbaya.

            1. Hyperion   9 years ago

Actually we did try that with Syria back in the 50s. It was one of our earlier regime change schemes.

    2. Hyperion   9 years ago

That bullshit she was spouting about that poor little Syrian boy... We know exactly what kind of horrible things get done to the American people based on emotional sob stories like that one, you old hag. Of all the lies she told, that one pissed me off the most. Just like the story about the little dead boy that washed up on shore in Greece was used to push mass immigration from Syria into Europe 'It's all just women and poor little children! Who's afraid of them?'. Then when you see the real coverage, it's just masses of young men standing around. I hate Hillary and I hate the fucking media just as much.

"Wells Fargo Facing Criminal Investigation in California"
    [...]
"California Attorney General Kamala Harris has launched a criminal investigation into whether Wells Fargo employees committed false impersonation and identity theft as part of an accounts scandal that has engulfed the bank in recent weeks."
    http://abcnews.go.com/Business.....d=42922933

Harris was a Willie Brown fuck who listened well enough to ride his coattails to the office she now holds; her principle is easily understood; get elected and suck the public teat. He doesn't seem to say much about her anymore; maybe she was a bad fuck and not bright enough to get even Willie to comment.
Now Wells really fucked up, but it's doubtful they crossed the line of 'identity theft', except as Harris chooses to define it and that definition is likely to be 'way more broad that the definition of the hag's 'destroying evidence' pass.
Regardless, she's running for senate (since CA doesn't have enough brain-deads in that position), and it's a great chance to score cheap points.
Like Trump, Wells should be prosecuted for public stupidity, not identity theft.

    Fun with exponents...

Minimum salary of people in top 1% = 4.2e5/yr
Number of working people in top 1%=1.9e6
Current federal tax rate of people in top 1%=~0.3 of income

How much taxes could be raised by not touching the tax rates of 99% of the population?

    4.2e5x1.9e6x0.7

    Multiply 4.3x1.9x0.7=4.3x1.33=~5.7
    Add the exponents 5+6
Total revenue=5.7e11=570 billion dollars, a conservative estimate since I'm using the threshold number for the 1%

    Current FY2015 deficit= 4.38e11

    Hey Kbolino, is 5.7e11>4.38e11?

    1. kbolino   9 years ago

Why am I not surprised you have no idea how income taxes or statistics work. Also apparently you manufactured 65 million households out of thin air.

There are 125 million households. Income taxes are marginal. The top 3% (so about 3.7 million households) of income-earning households, those making at least $250,000 a year, have a mean income of $400,000. That means only $150,000 on average is subject to the tax increase. If you increased it to 70% from its current value of 35%, for an increase of 35%, you would net:

      $150,000 ? 0.35 ? 3.7 million = $194 billion

That's less than half the deficit. Even if you raised the tax rate to 100%, which of course would lead to a collapse of tax revenues from that bracket, you would still only be increasing the rate by 65% since 35% of it is already being paid.

      $150,000 0.65 ? 3.7 million = $361 billion

      Still less than the deficit!

      But wait, there's more...

That's some real good moving of goal posts. Fran Tarkatan, that field goal kicker is going to have to make a 300-yarder if Kbolino keeps it up...

"If the tax rate on income over $250,000 were raised to 100%, it would only halve the yearly increase in the debt."

        1. kbolino   9 years ago

The debt held by the public increases by over $1 trillion a year.

          Debt change != Deficit

Fucking squirrels. Anyway, let's suppose that the 99th percentile of household income was $420,000 like you say. That information is surprisingly hard to verify, but doesn't strike me as wrong. Now, we need to know the mean income for that group. There are no reliable figures that I can find, so we'll have to estimate. The mean of the top 3% is $400,000 and that's 3.7 million households so the total is $1.48 trillion. We have to subtract out the lower 2% making between $250,000 and $420,000 but we don't have a mean for that group. So let's do a conservative ballpark and say it's $300,000. So that's $300,000 ? 2.5 million = $750 billion.

Now we're left with the top 1% of households having total income of $730 billion. There's 1.2 million of them, so the mean is about $608,000. Let's say for the sake of discussion that the top bracket is equal to the income of the top 1%, so $420,000. That leaves $188,000 subject to the tax.

Now, the top marginal tax rate is 39.6% so making it 70% would be an increase of 30.4%. That nets:

        $188,000 ? 0.304 ? 1.2 million = $68.5 billion

Ouch. What if you took it all?

        $188,000 ? 0.604 ? 1.2 million = $136.5 billion

        Still no dice.

If I may indulge a bit: son, you brought a plastic knife to a gun fight. You best step up if you want to start arguing math with me.

    3. kbolino   9 years ago

      TL;DR of my takedown:

      1. $420,000 is the top 1% household income, not the top 1% of individual income
      2. There are 1.2 million households in the top 1%, not 1.9 million
      3. Income taxes are collected on the margins, not the total income
      4. In order to estimate the margin, you need to know the mean not the percentile
