    1. AlmightyJB   10 years ago

Odds on Hillary having an "issue".

      1. DOOMco   10 years ago

        Under over is 47 minutes.

        1. Suell   10 years ago

"We need to break for technical difficulties..."

          1. DOOMco   10 years ago

Here are 4 ads from hillary PAC's.

      2. Hyperion   10 years ago

50/50. She has a massive army of top ranking medics trying to keep her from keeling over. She's probably shot full of every substance ever created by mankind, right now.

Shouldn't that be called 'doping'? And shouldn't there be outrage?

      3. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

Remember when she took so long peeing in the Dem debates she was absent after a commercial break?

        1. Ted S.   10 years ago

No. I couldn't be bothered to watch the Democratic debates.

    2. MadisonWhite   10 years ago

I Make up to $90 an hour working from my home. My story is that I quit working at Walmart to work online and with a little effort I easily bring in around $70h to $86h..Go to this website and click tech tab to start your work.Visit this web... http://tinyurl.com/hygs5jl

  2. Hyperion   10 years ago

    I need a beer.

    1. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

Ditto. That would hit the spot. Luckily I do have some Smirnoff.

      1. Hyperion   10 years ago

And I have a beer. And the wife has a pretty large collection of Vino if it should come to that.

        1. Ted S.   10 years ago

I hope it's good wine, and not foofy lady stuff like white zin or Chardonnay.

    2. Krabappel   10 years ago

I'm trying this perry from Eric Bordelet (Normandy). It's pretty good but disappointingly only 3.5% alcohol. Too sweet for me, too.

  3. DOOMco   10 years ago

    CAGE MATCH

    1. JWatts   10 years ago

      One could wish.

  4. Suell   10 years ago

Second Sierra Nevada cracked. What are the odds that anything actually interesting happens here?

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

Hillary may fall over or start coughing. Besides, that, pretty much zero.

  5. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

Wouldn't it be cool if Trump came out with Gabbo?

  6. Karl Hungus   10 years ago

(Posted this the other day, but it seems appropriate tonight to re-post)

Moderator Lester Holt: Secretary Clinton, how do you feel your many, many years of valiant, dedicated government service have prepared you to serve as president of this deeply grateful nation? Followup question, do you feel, as many of us do, that in this instance, an actual election is simply a needless formality?

Clinton: Well Lester, as you know, when I singlehandedly liberated Libya from--

[camera flash goes off in audience; Trump operative seen making hasty exit from venue]

    Clinton: I was able to . . . you know . . . Benghazi was . . . when the . . . Gadaffi's check didn't clear . . . SALAD SPOON!!!

[eyes roll back, postural tone disappears, drops to floor like 200-pound bag of potatoes, bladder and bowels release explosively epic grand mal seizure commences]

    1. You Sound Like a Prog (MJG)   10 years ago

      I liked it, Hungus.

MOST IMPORTANT DEBATE OF OUR LIFETIME

    1. Sanjuro Tsubaki   10 years ago

I'm too good for this lifetime.

    2. Sanjuro Tsubaki   10 years ago

...and so are you, and that's not saying much.

  8. PurityDiluting   10 years ago

MSM makes it sound like a historic human achievement to stand for 90 whole minutes without a break

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

Yeah, no one has ever done that before and survived. How long was that Rand Paul filibuster?

    2. Rhywun   10 years ago

      Get off my lawn

  9. SugarFree   10 years ago

    They let Bill near Melania?

  10. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

Stop being boring, Lester. GIVE US TRUMP.

  11. Jerryskids   10 years ago

Saints/Falcons looking like a pretty good game.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

Let me make a pre-prognostication. Both teams good offense, both teams no defense. Atlanta 40, Saints 35.

      1. True Scottsman   10 years ago

        A Trump win?

  12. DOOMco   10 years ago

Knob rye. Next up might be Bushmills black. Who knows?!

  13. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

    Hillary in red. Interesting.

Like someone we know who lives in hell.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

Red Chairman Mao pantsuit I'm guessing? Very fitting.

      1. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

She went full red socialist off the bat.

        Coincidence?

      2. Karl Hungus   10 years ago

        Very fitting

If so, then she's got a helluva good tailor. Fitting a Mao suit for someone built like a 200-pound sack of potatoes has got to be a pretty tall order.

        1. Ted S.   10 years ago

You can do amazing things with spandex.

    2. Ted S.   10 years ago

      Tulpa?

      1. DesigNate   10 years ago

I could see Clinton being Tulpa.

  14. SugarFree   10 years ago

Non-partisan as long as you are GOP or Dem, Lester.

    1. juris imprudent   10 years ago

I wish I had been able to smack him when he said that.

  15. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

    Crappy first question.

    1. thrakkorzog   10 years ago

"So the economy is doing great, except for income inequality. How much do we need to raise taxes on the rich to to fix it."

      1. Hyperion   10 years ago

        All the way.

  16. SusanM   10 years ago

    She's stoned off her gourd.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

LOL. What do you think being shot up with gallons of drugs and embalming fluid will do?

      1. SusanM   10 years ago

Do a wicked Ben Carson impression?

        1. Hyperion   10 years ago

Carson is actually intelligent albeit a little goofy.

          1. SusanM   10 years ago

            He's no brain sur-...oh...

          2. SugarFree   10 years ago

A little goofy? Pyramids are grain silos?

            1. John   10 years ago

He got close to a perfect score on his SAT, despite being a delinquent who never bothered to go to class. Compared to Carson, you are like one of those chimps they teach sign language. But yeah, he is a bit goofy.

              1. SugarFree   10 years ago

Carson is for Trump, so John thinks he's a genius. What a shock.

                1. CZmacure   10 years ago

Carson is for Trump, so John thinks he's a genius. What a shock.

Maybe he thinks he's a genius because he has displayed significant intelligence in the realms people display intelligence in?

    2. John   10 years ago

She needs a row of have drunk Jack Daniels bottles behind her to complete the effect

      http://images.sfae.com/product.....w/1105.jpg

    3. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

      Her pauses sound really unnatural.

      1. Mr Drew   10 years ago

That threw me too. I think she is pausing for applause. Of course Lester asked the audience to hold applause, which they will until someone gets in a good line.

  17. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

HILLARY'S EYES! THEY'RE FOLLOWING ME AROUND THE ROOM.

  18. SugarFree   10 years ago

Hillary is blinking a lot. I wonder what that means. Leprosy? Face AIDS?

    1. Ted S.   10 years ago

You blink more when you're lying.

      1. SugarFree   10 years ago

And she keeps blinking even while not talking.

    2. You Sound Like a Prog (MJG)   10 years ago

      Sounds legit.

      1. SugarFree   10 years ago

        Never question my science.

  19. That's A Bingo!   10 years ago

Don't bring up "struggling to balance," Hillary.

  20. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

Oh fuck off. Democrats, progressives and the left loathe small business. Always did; always will. Because narratives.

  21. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

Is that the Kool Aid Man?

    Ohhhh yeah!

  22. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

Hillary promises everything and rich people are gonna pay for it all.

    Psycho.

  23. DOOMco   10 years ago

    No cell phones

  24. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

    Mexico!

When is he gonna bad mouth Canada?

    /waves arms wildly.

    1. JWatts   10 years ago

He's only talking about the important countries Rufus. 😉

    2. John   10 years ago

No one likes to pick on the little brother. Sorry Rufus.

      1. Bill   10 years ago

Nobody puts Baby in a corner!

    3. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

He's all for hats, and that includes America's.

  25. PurityDiluting   10 years ago

the panderfest begins in the opening minute

  26. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

"Trump pretending to be interested face" is beyond funny.

  27. SugarFree   10 years ago

They both look terrible, really. Trump is less orange, but their necks both look like a bag of maggots.

    1. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

Someone make this man Poet Laureate.

      1. thrakkorzog   10 years ago

Naw, if anyone around her deserves the poet laureate gig it's Agile Cyborg.

  28. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

That split screen is so funny and depressing.

    1. That's A Bingo!   10 years ago

I keep thinking, "This is really happening, huh? Came down to this..."

    2. thrakkorzog   10 years ago

Hmm, Trump keeps switching between resting bitch face, duck face and licking his lips when Hillary is talking.

      1. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

        so fucking accurate

  29. The Fusionist   10 years ago

Johnson needs to bump that Lincoln video - right now it's on top and distracting from his rebuttal tweets.

  30. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

Already I can see the country is hindered from the lack of nervous energy and incoherent answers from a certain third party candidate absent from this stage.

    1. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

      *sticks tongue out at Fist*

  31. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

I will build a REAL FIELD OF DREAMS!

    1. Ted S.   10 years ago

      Terrible movie.

  32. Suthenboy   10 years ago

Huh. I wonder if Trump knows the questions ahead of time also? Hillary clearly scripted.

    1. liechecker   10 years ago

A decent politician (not Gary Johnson) practices likely questions beforehand, and that one was pretty obvious.

  33. John   10 years ago

Hillary seems conscious. Who says modern medicine can't work miracles.

  34. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

Holt is doing an amazing job so far!

  35. Quincy.   10 years ago

"Carrier Hair Conditioning" I now know why he is so upset.

  36. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

    CCCP.

One of the C's stands for Clinton.

  37. Joe M   10 years ago

Okay, trumped up trickle down was semi-clever. I'm sure Hillary didn't think of it.

  38. SugarFree   10 years ago

    Load father job ancedote. Execute.

  39. liechecker   10 years ago

Right, Hillary. You're self-made, didn't just get lucky with her relatives at all.

    1. commodious the plorable   10 years ago

Nor some very specific commodities-related advice.

    2. Hyperion   10 years ago

She's lucky she blew the Willy.

  40. PurityDiluting   10 years ago

bet that's the first time he's ever heard trumped up

  41. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

Trump: hot chicks in his family, drastic cut to corporate taxes... Plus a bunch of stuff I don't like. Meh

  42. Hyperion   10 years ago

Thanks to those of you actually watching this, your sacrifice is great indeed.

  43. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

Lester asks for specifics from Donald.

Not so much for Hillary about how she's gonna go after the rich without hurting REAL INVESTMENT.

    1. John   10 years ago

The message from every Democratic candidate I have seen this year has boiled down to "my opponent doesn't hate guns and corporations as much as I do". Hillary seems to be no different.

  44. John   10 years ago

I don't often perceive these things like everyone else. So tell me if I am out in left field on this. But my God does Hillary sound like a nag school marm. Jesus, her tone is forever accusatory and lecturing and not in a good way.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

She's always like that. And shreeky and hoarse.

      1. John   10 years ago

I find Obama grating but I can understand why some people like him. There is no way anyone enjoys listening Hillary. Its just awful.

    2. juris imprudent   10 years ago

The caricature of the mother-in-law; though I got lucky twice - both completely ran against that type.

      1. John   10 years ago

I have a really nice mother law. Thank God.

  45. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

"Trump'd up, trickle down" is how Winston's mom describes her sex life.

  46. Joe M   10 years ago

Squeegee production in America is down 90% in the last decade. I will bring the squeegees home!

  47. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

I have the sound muted. I'm going to judge this thing on body language alone.

    1. Joe M   10 years ago

Hillary's definitely doped up like crazy.

    2. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

I was trying to listen to it.

It was making me feel nauseated.

      1. juris imprudent   10 years ago

My wife and I realized we didn't have enough alcohol in the house to go the full 90.

  48. JWatts   10 years ago

I want you to be very happy.

  49. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

    "Seriously, so many huge billions."

  50. DOOMco   10 years ago

Well, the pandering right out the gate.

  51. commodious the plorable   10 years ago

We are twenty... million... dollars, Lester.

  52. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Lester Holt trying to fact-check Trump. Let's platitudic non-answers from Hillary slide.

  53. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

Is Lester Holt arguing with Trump already?

  54. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Great Recession was about tax cuts.

    Can we fact-check that one?

    1. liechecker   10 years ago

Sorry, I only have one setting.

    2. GILMORE?   10 years ago

      Who claimed that?

      1. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Hillary. She started off talking about it and said it was caused by tax cuts like the ones Trump wants.

        1. GILMORE?   10 years ago

          Did she get "Fact Checked"?

Has the whole levered-"mortgage-backed-securities"-bubble thing just been thrown down a memory hole?

  55. liechecker   10 years ago

Bush tax cuts caused the 2007 crash?

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

Poor progs still don't realize the Bush tax cuts benefited the lowest income brackets the most.

  56. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

How soon until a boog runs down Trump's nose?

  57. John   10 years ago

I don't think anyone is going to buy the Obama "things were so bad and I saved you line". And he won't but it would be nice if Trump would point out not a single person from Wall Street was ever prosecuted by Obama for the banking collapse.

  58. Col. Chestbridge   10 years ago

"Allow me to pretend to understand economics for a moment, Lester."

  59. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

Elizabeth Warren bought foreclosed homes and sold them at a profit.

    Just saying.

  60. Tonio   10 years ago

Gentlemen, this is surely a drug-fueled, SugarFree written fever dream.

    1. John   10 years ago

It better not be because if it ends, the dream ends with them having a grudge fuck on the stage. And no one wants that. Really, no one wants that.

      1. Rhywun   10 years ago

I'm glad I just finished dinner.

    2. SugarFree   10 years ago

Eh. Someone would have burst into a squirming pillar of grey-pink intestine-tcles by now.

  61. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

They took Trump off the screen there for a second after he reached under the podium. Was he pulling out a strobe light or air horn?

  62. Joe M   10 years ago

Hahaha "on the precipice of a much better economy"? Not where I expected that sentence to go.

    1. Dark Lord of the cis   10 years ago

"On the precipice of a prepuce".

  63. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

I would challenge her assertion her party saved the economy bull.

  64. SugarFree   10 years ago

Trump took a drink of water! Let's make jokes about it for the next four years! Colbert, go!

    1. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

Oh no, it will be on the sniffles. Trump sniffles. Laughs for days.

  65. commodious the plorable   10 years ago

A Democrat shedding tears for the national debt. Eight years into the Obama economy. Really.

  66. Pay up, Palin's Buttplug!   10 years ago

Lester: How do you bring the jobs back. Trump: You don't let them leave?

Clinton: I agree? that's why I propose building a wall to keep them in.

  67. DOOMco   10 years ago

OK, who wants to play BC2?

  68. liechecker   10 years ago

Umm, Lester, I think you should be following up with Hilldog here....

  69. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Trump is too incompetent to say it, but someone really ought to point out how the economic policy geared by the Fed the last 8 years is a top down system that benefits the wealthy. It's real trickle down economics.

    1. John   10 years ago

I would love him to say that, but I don't think the public is smart enough to understand it. It would go right over their heads.

    2. SimonD   10 years ago

Exactly, except it's trickle-down without the trickle.

      1. SimonD   10 years ago

Personally I appreciated the dissonance of Hillary discussing about how money should be earned 'by making things rather than by financial transactions.' during the Dems' ZIRP debacle.

  70. Joe M   10 years ago

10 million new jobs are incompatible with a huge increase in the minimum wage.

  71. DOOMco   10 years ago

    OH GOD NOOOO

  72. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

Clean energy! YES! Fracking for everyone!

    1. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

      More nuclear!

  73. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

All Trump has to do is not come across as crazy and obnoxious to win.

    He's doing okay so far.

    Everyone already hates Hillary naturally.

  74. Rebel Scum   10 years ago

Both of these people want to do a lot of grandiose things that are not in the legitimate purview/authority of the federal gov't, let alone the president.

    This...well, it's expected, I suppose.

  75. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

    30 years!

    Hillary thinks a lot.

  76. liechecker   10 years ago

Hillary is going to bring back 1990s economic policy? Awesome.

    1. Col. Chestbridge   10 years ago

Hey, those coattails aren't gonna ride themselves.

    2. Ted S.   10 years ago

So she wants to be a bridge to the past?

      1. SimonD   10 years ago

My comment disappeared, we'll try it again.

So Hillary wants to slow the growth of government spending, promote trade, and end welfare as we know it?

        Cool, I'm in.

        It's a shame it's complete horseshit.

  77. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

AND SO IT BEGINS IN EARNEST.

  78. (VERY VIP), Jr.   10 years ago

    She's just endorsed NAFTA.

  79. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

Hillary is a lying sack of shit who took money from foreign governments while she was the Secretary of State.

    I'm just sayin'.

    1. SimonD   10 years ago

      Let's be fair.

Hillary is a lying sack of shit whose family took money from foreign governments while she was Secretary of State.

      (fixed it)

  80. Tonio   10 years ago

I want to scrape my eye sockets out with a grapefruit spoon.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

I told you not to watch that shit, Tonio. Well, not you alone, just everyone. But thank you for your sacrifice and please, don't do it.

    2. SugarFree   10 years ago

That's just a Chinese hoax, Tonio.

    3. Rhywun   10 years ago

      What about your ears?

    4. Tonio   10 years ago

      Paging Harlan Ellison...

    5. juris imprudent   10 years ago

      To the pain!

  81. liechecker   10 years ago

Special prosecutor for trade deals? Come again?

    1. SimonD   10 years ago

Yeah, I LOL'd at Mrs. Clinton using the phrase 'special prosecutor' with a straight face. She really is brazen, isn't she?

  82. Joe M   10 years ago

Bill Clinton's economic policy ideas were way more conservative than anything either of these idiots have on offer.

  83. SugarFree   10 years ago

It is really hurting Hillary to smile. She just wants to scream and go after him with claws and teeth.

Donald needs to stop making a "sucking on a lemon" face.

    1. (VERY VIP), Jr.   10 years ago

"Why are my teeth showing like that?"

      1. SugarFree   10 years ago

        "My teeth are cold."

  84. (VERY VIP), Jr.   10 years ago

"You go to any battleground swing-state, you'll see how bad NAFTA was!"

    1. Joe M   10 years ago

      LMAO

  85. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Trump was low energy to start. Now he's feeling it.

Things getting hotter than usual. Hopefully he calls her a cunt by the end of this.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

If he calls her a cunt, he's my hero, and I will vote for him.

      1. John   10 years ago

IF he called her a cunt, he would win all fifty states.

        1. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

Trump needs pistol packin' Soccer Moms in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.

          Don't call her that.

          1. John   10 years ago

Yes. That is why the Democrats were always so terrified of Palin. Palin as a woman could have beat Hillary down in ways no man could have gotten away with doing.

  86. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

    He bad mouths NAFTA!

I'll take it as a knock against Canada!

    1. John   10 years ago

We are only going to kick Mexico out. Trump is against foreign trade Rufus.

      1. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

I'm curious to know if that 16% tax he talked about applies in Canada/USA trade policies.

        1. John   10 years ago

I honestly don't know. I was just giving you a hard time. There is no way it could. That would be economic suicide.

  87. liechecker   10 years ago

Uh oh Hillary's smirking, that means she doesn't know what to say.

  88. John   10 years ago

Trump is coming across too strong. I can read the "he was so angry and mean" stories right now.

  89. Joe M   10 years ago

Trump's starting to overplay his pushy asshole routine. The last thing he wants to do is railroad over Hillary and make her look sympathetic.

  90. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

He's a mongoose to the snake! Or is it the snake to a mongoose?

  91. (VERY VIP), Jr.   10 years ago

    Donald pressing forward.

    1. Rhywun   10 years ago

      Lean in, Hillary.

    2. Sanjuro Tsubaki   10 years ago

Donald's just depressing. Hillary isn't doing too awful. Wish she'd melt, but expectations are so low that she'll pull this off.

  92. Grand Moff Serious Man   10 years ago

    She's rattled.

    1. Brochettaward   10 years ago

This. People don't like Hillary. I don't think he'll make her sympathetic. He had her rattled and off her game badly. She can only fall back on talking points from her prep.

      1. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

He's a reality TV star in his element. He doesn't even sound well prepared, but is completely controlling the pace.

      2. Sanjuro Tsubaki   10 years ago

The MSM orchestrated Hillary charm offensive really really really begins now. You like Hillary. Everyone likes Hillary. Hillary Rodham Clinton is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life.

  93. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

She will appoint a special prosecutor? Oh. Em. Gee.

    1. liechecker   10 years ago

Ken Starr's going to go after Xi Jinping's blowjob intern....

      1. Ted S.   10 years ago

Donald Trump marries his blow job interns.

    2. BigT   10 years ago

"She will appoint a special prosecutor? "

Mis-spoke. She meant I'm afraid of a special prosecutor.

  94. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

Hillary is a lying sack of shithead.

I'm being obnoxious so Trump doesn't have to.

But Hillary really is a lying sack of shithead.

  95. Rebel Scum   10 years ago

Oh shit. This is gonna be a bloodbath.

  96. liechecker   10 years ago

She wrote a book that nobody bought about it....

  97. JWatts   10 years ago

Hillary did say the TPP was the gold standard for trade deals.

  98. NYC2AZ   10 years ago

I can't believe she just plugged her book.

    1. SugarFree   10 years ago

Srsly. What is she, a Reason editor?

  99. thrakkorzog   10 years ago

Did Hillary just say she wants a special prosecutor for trade agreement violations? Because I can think of one really tenacious guy she could appoint. Let's just say his name rhymes with Ben Shmarnes.

  100. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

"Someone, anyone, buy my book. It's at an airport!"

    1. thrakkorzog   10 years ago

I thought they pulled that off the shelves after the standees caused book store employees to go shooting sprees.

  101. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

She's not deviating from the talking points and buzz words.

    1. DOOMco   10 years ago

      It's pretty obvious

  102. John   10 years ago

What the fuck is fair growth? I would give anything for Trump to ask her if that means growth that benefits donors to the Clinton Foundation.

  103. That's A Bingo!   10 years ago

Appealing to authority isn't going to work, Hillary. "Experts say my plan is better" -- It's an anti-elite, anti-authority election.

Trump could be handling this better.

    1. John   10 years ago

I don't think telling the country everything is good is going to work either.

  104. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

So is Trump going to be seen as bullying?

    1. Rhywun   10 years ago

Trump could roll around on his back swatting a feather and be seen as bullying.

    2. SugarFree   10 years ago

Not by anyone who doesn't already think it.

  105. liechecker   10 years ago

Haha, Hillary demands the last word and Holt gives it to her.

  106. The Fusionist   10 years ago

Heck with this, I thought I could handle this shit.

This is what Johnson wanted to get into?

  107. SusanM   10 years ago

    "Bigly"?!

    1. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

      Big league.

      New York values.

  108. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

God damn it, I turned the sound up, heard Hillary, and now it feels like I'm gonna barf again.

Just looking at her face makes me hope she loses.

It's like I want to look at the screen, but every time I do, her face is there, and I feel like I'm gonna spew again.

  109. creech   10 years ago

Twenty minutes in and I haven't been promised enough free shit yet to sell my vote. If the college kids get free tuition, I want free Amtrak and a 20% boost in my social security check. Wouldn't be able to handle the hookers and don't want the blow.

  110. arbitrary wavefunction   10 years ago

YAY THEY HAVE THEIR OWN FACT CHECKERS TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS KOSHER

  111. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

We have to move along. Okay go ahead Hilary.

  112. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

Sweet, raising taxes. That's what we need.

    1. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

      Not on you. Someone else.

      1. DOOMco   10 years ago

        anyone else

  113. liechecker   10 years ago

I gotta say, I really hate this style. The double screen with both of them talking over each other. And then they fight over the last word.

  114. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Lester Holt is talking over a black man and a woman.

    Slate and Salon's article tomorrow.

    1. Brochettaward   10 years ago

*Trump is talking over a black man and a woman.

      1. BigT   10 years ago

        Trump 2016!!

  115. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

This is getting out of control!

  116. Grand Moff Serious Man   10 years ago

This class warfare shit isn't going to work.

  117. PurityDiluting   10 years ago

    I love the Commentariat!

  118. (VERY VIP), Jr.   10 years ago

    Trump's base: "FUCK YEAH!"

  119. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

She's campaigning on raising taxes as the means to prosperity AND she took money from foreign governments while she was the Secretary of State.

  120. Joe M   10 years ago

My four-year-old son would vote for Trump because he has a really good suit.

    1. arbitrary wavefunction   10 years ago

Trump ties are the best. Very very excellent ties. There aren't any better ties. Nobody else can make ties like that.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

In all honesty I'm distracted by that knot job. Terrible.

        1. arbitrary wavefunction   10 years ago

You'd think a billionaire would know how to have a decent dimple.

    2. GILMORE?   10 years ago

AND THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT

(*i can not confirm if he's actually wearing a nice suit. i just support the young man's reasoning)

  121. Rebel Scum   10 years ago

She may actually push the "I'm gonna tax/regulate your business out of existence" line too far.

    1. John   10 years ago

You have to give her credit, this might be the first time in 25 years of public life she has been truthful about anything.

  122. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

Did Hillary ask for someone to fat-check this? Because right now I'm calculating candidate BMI's and she's not going to like the result.

  123. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

"Fighting ISIS you're entire adult life."

    I have no idea.

    1. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

      *your*

      1. Joe M   10 years ago

Over-correcting the other way; I hate when that happens.

    2. Brochettaward   10 years ago

That was crazy drunk uncle Trump at nearly his incoherent worst.

  124. Joe M   10 years ago

Wow I'm loving the repatriation arguments.

  125. Cyto   10 years ago

So I couldn't bring myself to actually watch the debate. I tried. I put on CNN because Xfinity advertised it on the guide so all I had to do was push the button when it popped up.

They spent the pre-game stumping for Hillary. The entire slant was from a team Hillary point of view. I lasted about 5 minutes.

We have it recording. Maybe I'll try again in a little while.

But what I came to say was that the HnR thread is crazy, obnoxious and goofy. And so far the HnR rabble is still better than the Reason live tweet. WTF Reason? I expect a lot better from the biggest name in Libertarian thought.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

I expect a lot better from the biggest name in Libertarian thought

But you already said the commentariat is better than the writers. I thought everyone already knew that anyway.

      1. Rhywun   10 years ago

Oh the writers are fine but they obviously have to restrain themselves somewhat.

    2. SugarFree   10 years ago

      Crazy? Obnoxious? Goofy?!?

      1. Cyto   10 years ago

Yes, I was referring to you.

      2. juris imprudent   10 years ago

And what about the rest of us?

        1. Cyto   10 years ago

          Yes. You too.

It's turtles nutballs all the way down.

  126. liechecker   10 years ago

So wait, Clinton attacks Trump directly and that doesn't count against her time?

  127. PurityDiluting   10 years ago

Hillary trying to spontaneously throw out her scripted gotchas
Trump's 'why not?' got the laugh

  128. Rebel Scum   10 years ago

Moderator Douchbag: "Secretary Clinton, you want to tax the wealthy more to give free shit to the poor. Mr. Trump, you want to give tax breaks to the wealthy and take a steaming shit on the poor. Defend your position."

  129. (VERY VIP), Jr.   10 years ago

How many shots did Trump take before going on?

  130. BigT   10 years ago

Fuck Lester Holt!! In the ass with a broken bottle.!!!

  131. liechecker   10 years ago

I don't think "top down" means what Hillary thinks it means.....

  132. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Trickle down led to the Great Recession again.

Where's the fact check, Lester? Come on.

We needed a Rand Paul up here right now.

  133. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

Well, maybe slashing taxes and starting a war YOU VOTED FOR didn't help. But it doesn't mean slashing taxes is a bad thing.

    Cunt.

  134. SusanM   10 years ago

I got it!! Hillary sounds like Peggy Hill in Spanish

      Heh.

  135. Adans smith   10 years ago

So,is there something going on I should be watching? I guess I'll read about it here tomorrow. Think I watch Hogan's Heroes reruns .

    1. SugarFree   10 years ago

      HOOOOOGUN!

  136. Suell   10 years ago

    It's all trickle down.

    1. NYC2AZ   10 years ago

After my 5th beer, I need to trickle down.

  137. Calidissident   10 years ago

I'm just glad I didn't decide to do a Debate Drinking Game. I'd probably be dead by now.

    1. PurityDiluting   10 years ago

yep. shot per each 'believe me' would already have me under the table

  138. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

News media, get the message: Trump'd up, trickle down.

    1. thrakkorzog   10 years ago

That's pretty dark, even by your own standards.

  139. Joe M   10 years ago

Content aside, I feel like Trump is mopping the floor with Clinton.

  140. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

He's right about the interest rates.

    1. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Surprised he brought up the Feds. Still would have liked to seen something on how it's a top down approach to economics.

  141. Tonio   10 years ago

Can I start generally puking, yet?

  142. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

Trump going after the fed isn't going to lose him any voters . . . anywhere.

  143. John   10 years ago

Trump is laying the wood about the asset bubble and the coming reconing and interest rate hikes. He sounds pretty good and he is absolutely right.

  144. Grand Moff Serious Man   10 years ago

Moving on to tax returns is a lifeline for Hillary.

  145. liechecker   10 years ago

So they asked Trump about conflicts of interest in his business dealings... with Hillary on stage?

  146. BigT   10 years ago

Trump should say that reduced Corp tax rates will bring jobs home.

    1. Rhywun   10 years ago

      I think he did.

  147. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

She's seeing Puff the Magic Dragon right now.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

      lol!

    2. Rhywun   10 years ago

Elementary school music class flashes before my eyes. I never realized until much later that I was basically raised by hippie teachers.

  148. liechecker   10 years ago

And another followup from Holt. When's that going to happen to Hillary?

    1. BigT   10 years ago

Fuck Holt in the ass with a broken bottle!!

  149. Suthenboy   10 years ago

lowering taxes on money out of the country, cutting red tape and lowering corp. taxes bringing jobs back into the country? Thats just crazy talk.

    1. AlexInCT   10 years ago

If you believe that government's job is to take money to buy votes for politicians, and especially politicians of one party in particular, then that IS crazy talk...

  150. The Real Jose   10 years ago

Listening to Trump, I'm reminded of the anti-foreword of the Unix-Haters' Handbook:

"Like excrement, it contains enough undigested nuggets of nutrition to sustain life for some."

  151. (VERY VIP), Jr.   10 years ago

    BOOM

    1. Karl Hungus   10 years ago

Boom what? I'm not able to watch right now.

  152. Mr Drew   10 years ago

compare your tax returns to her speech transcripts, trump!

    1. John   10 years ago

How long are they going to talk about his taxes and not talk about her emails, the Foundation and transcripts.

      1. AlexInCT   10 years ago

I think the emails got mentioned and they had to admonish the crowd for clapping hard and hooting & hollering when the emails were brought up... Hillary responds that her breaking the law was a mistake and she takes responsibility... Woo-hoo! She is making my next license plate? Right???

        1. John   10 years ago

And her breaking the law is nothing to see and nowhere near important as Trump not releasing his tax returns, of which there is no reason to believe he has done anything wrong.

          Yeah, that makes sense.

  153. Brian   10 years ago

Clinton doesn't think "top down" works in America?

    That explains nothing.

  154. Dark Lord of the cis   10 years ago

    Knew that one was coming.

  155. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

    Yikes moment!

    CNN muting the crowd!

  156. Joe M   10 years ago

Oops, Trump is getting whiny now. "I get audited every year. I want my binkie."

  157. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Crowd breaks protocol for the email reference.

Trump finally states the obvious that being free to release returns under an audit legally isn't the same as it being smart to do so.

  158. AlexInCT   10 years ago

SPECIAL PROSECUTOR FOR INCREASED EXPORTS, YAY!

  160. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

"Audience, please quit cheering things that make Hillary look bad."

    1. BigT   10 years ago

Fuck Holt in the ass with a broken bottle!!

    2. SugarFree   10 years ago

And he said nothing when they cheered her.

  161. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

  162. liechecker   10 years ago

Way to put that ball on the tee for Hillary, Lester!

  163. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

Switching back on I see we're talking about tax returns, so I guess we're still in the prosperity section of the debate?

  164. Joe M   10 years ago

Yeah wow, the moderator really served this up a platter for Clinton. "Care to unload a pre-scripted speech about Trump's tax returns?"

    1. BigT   10 years ago

Fuck Holt in the ass with a broken bottle!!

  165. John   10 years ago

Is Hillary really shameless enough to accuse anyone of being dishonest and being a crook? Did they give her LSD instead of her meds tonight?

  166. SusanM   10 years ago

He got away with paying no taxes...and she say it like a bad thing?

    1. Brochettaward   10 years ago

It's the same attack they used on Romney.

      May be true with Trump.

      1. John   10 years ago

Romney was a schnook who acted defensive about it. I don't think it will work with Trump.

        1. SusanM   10 years ago

It'll rally his supporters, that's for sure.

  167. Tonio   10 years ago

I'm going to go make some extra crispy bacon.

  168. liechecker   10 years ago

Hillary has no tolerance for people who have something to hide....

    1. AlexInCT   10 years ago

Maybe she is queen of snark?

  169. Grand Moff Serious Man   10 years ago

Trump is coming off like a guy pissed off about the state of Middle America. Hillary is coming off like a politician desperately clinging to a script.

I'll let you guess who is better reflecting America's mood.

  170. Joe M   10 years ago

Calling it now: the tax returns are going to be the lead story.

    1. Brian   10 years ago

  171. The Fusionist   10 years ago

  172. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

Lester Holt grew up in Marin County.

    1. BigT   10 years ago

Fuck Holt in the ass with a broken bottle!!

  173. Calidissident   10 years ago

Trump should release the returns but Clinton trying to attack people for hiding stuff and assuming nefarious motives is hilarious.

    1. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

      Very much so.

    2. You Sound Like a Prog (MJG)   10 years ago

From what I'm reading, it sounds like she keeps opening up avenues that reflect just as badly or worse on her.

Again, you're goddamn Hillary Clinton. People don't like you. As outrageous of a character as Trump is, don't try to make this about character.

  174. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

Dude, just say Clinton Foundation. Holy balls.

    1. Rebel Scum   10 years ago

      ^ This

    2. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

I have a feeling he's ass deep in the Foundation.

  175. John   10 years ago

I think all of this bitching about Trump's tax returns just points to the 800 pound gorilla in the corner holding the email server no one is talking about. Do you guys think this is going to hurt Trump? I don't see it doing anything but reminding people of how awful Hillary is.

    1. arbitrary wavefunction   10 years ago

Her repeatedly calling him out for being rich will come back to bite her too.

The public thinks "Trump built buildings and made a ton of money. That seems like a real way to make money. Clinton made a couple hundred mil with speaking engagements. That seems like a bullshit way to make money."

    2. liechecker   10 years ago

Yeah, I don't get the Clinton campaign's strategy of trying to insinuate that Trump as corrupt. Rule #1 is don't go where your own bodies are buried.

  176. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

"I'd obviously do it differently"... so I wouldn't get caught.

    1. John   10 years ago

God Nick is a putz. He is just a putz.

    2. Calidissident   10 years ago

If he had a matching spending plan, that'd be nice. But he doesn't, so that just means even more massive deficits than we are already going to have.

    3. BigT   10 years ago

Fuck Nick Holt in the ass with a broken bottle!!

  178. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

If there's a place in the world with more limousine liberals than Marin County, I don't know where.

There are more limousine liberals in Marin County than there are in Hollywood.

  179. Rebel Scum   10 years ago

Clinton better be careful. She may hit some pinnacle of projection and create a projection wormhole that swallows the universe.

OK, Holt is putting every question on a tee for Hillary and only following up with Trump.... and Trump is still kicking her ass.

I say this as somebody who despises Trump.

Fuck Holt in the ass with a broken bottle!!

    FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE.

Taxes don't say much is true.

  182. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Trump focusing on his taxes more and letting Hillary tying him to shady financial dealings slide. Nothing about her foreign donations. Dropped ball.

  183. The Real Jose   10 years ago

All this talk of tax returns is triggering Trump

  184. Joe M   10 years ago

Trump should shut up about $650 million not being a lot of money. Fastest way to lose touch with the middle class he purportedly loves so much.

I just left to go to the bathroom, came back, didn't miss a thing. The #debate sounds like the same thing we've been listening to all year.

  191. commodious the plorable   10 years ago

Now can you imagine if Cruz had won the nomination. Would you be cringing quite so much?

  192. Gray Ghost   10 years ago

Trump is looking like my 3 year old nephew at tee-ball: swinging, missing, and getting distracted by the squirrel in the corner of the infield.

Holy fuck would Ted Cruz or Rand Paul be mopping the floor with this woman by now.

Hillary actually said she'd welcome a special prosecutor?! And is asking what secret financial dealings is Trump hiding?

    1. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Yea. He can't pass up a chance to talk about himself.

    2. liechecker   10 years ago

He's actually doing pretty well. Just got knocked off course with the bankruptcy thing.

    3. John   10 years ago

Yeah, I can't believe she said that. And I can't believe he didn't call her out on it. On the other hand, the entire country knows her baggage and thought the exact same thing we are thinking. So, what difference does it make? Trump really didn't need to say what everyone knows.

      1. Gray Ghost   10 years ago

If he does say what everyone knows, and says it pithily, that becomes what everyone talks about the next day.

Instead, it's going to be how calm and healthy Hillary looked, a woman who was supposed to be on her deathbed.

Goddammit Donald. Finish this fucking demon already.

        1. John   10 years ago

He needs a "your no Jack Kennedy" moment. And he needs to be funny. Hillary is the most humorless person on earth. Humor is her kryptonite.

    4. You Sound Like a Prog (MJG)   10 years ago

I was thinking today how funny it must be in the universe where Marco Rubio is the nominee, and all the progressives are trying to make a big deal about that boat story and why that's worse than the CF and emails.

  193. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

    Not a good answer, Donald.

  194. Rebel Scum   10 years ago

Mr. Trump, please repeat after me: Hillary takes money from foreign gov'ts. She did so while serving as secstate. She is doing so while running for president. She will continue after becoming president. She is for sale. She is the literal embodiment of a corrupt politician.

    1. AlexInCT   10 years ago

Why is he not wearing an orange suit and making license plates then? I have never felt bankruptcy was a sign of weakness. You take risks. Many will not bear out. Bankruptcy is a way to allow your company to survive something that would otherwise be catastrophic. I understand why people that think government is what makes the economy possible fail to see this reality, but damn, are most people unaware of that reality?

  196. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

Why does she keep bringing up her father? Is she trying to convince people she is actually a human?

    1. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Yes. They've been trying to 'humanize' her for weeks, and her opening statement took the same tact.

      1. SugarFree   10 years ago

What would it be like to be such a loathsome creature that you have to convince people you are human?

      2. AlexInCT   10 years ago

Trump does not come off well being forced to explain bankruptcy law and taking advantage of the tax code.

    1. AlexInCT   10 years ago

He's getting in the weeds, with no road map for his audience, and Hilary is, conversely, staying on message with short specific points.

Hillary's giant whoppers don't matter if Trump doesn't shove them down her throat. Yelling at her that she's lying doesn't do that.

    1. thrakkorzog   10 years ago

Seriously, Hilldog of hiding shading info in his tax returns was the equivalent of a guy opening his stance in a ball kicking contest, and Trump totally missed his shot.

  213. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

So after spending 45 minutes explaining how great things are, the subject switches to race and suddenly Hillary is all gloom and doom.

I think Trump comes across pretty well on the racial stuff. He doesn't sound like the typical uptight white person most Republicans do.

  232. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

Still Trump is walking a fine line.

  233. Joe M   10 years ago

    1. BigT   10 years ago

      Yeah, it sells.

  237. NYC2AZ   10 years ago

And we have the reached the "Cuz privacy rights" segment for Trump.

  238. Gray Ghost   10 years ago

How about pointing out that, at least in Ferguson, DOJ was actively helping out and liaising with BLM?

Point out that BLM is, now, an attempt by the DNC to increase black turnout for a candidate they otherwise wouldn't give a shit about.

And what the fuck is it with Holt arguing with Trump? Has he done anything like this with Hillary? Ask your question and let the candidates talk, fuckhead.

    1. Mic_Airz   10 years ago

Pointing out facts about a hot button racial issue is racist. Better for Trump to steer clear.

  239. DenverJ   10 years ago

No. a decent percentage of blacks. You would be surprised how many blacks are totally off the reservation radical law and order types. Not a majority but 25 or 30%. More than enough to sink Hillary if they ever stopped voting Democrat.

        1. SugarFree   10 years ago

          But they won't.

Of course, stop and frisk was never really about guns, but an easy way to avoid the 4th to bust people for drug crimes. But neither one of them want to touch drug legalization.

I think the biggest beneficiary of this debate will be Gary Johnson. He should consider himself lucky he wasn't involved in this shit-show.

Man, the GOP could have fielded someone competent. Ah, well. Shame about all those upcoming SCOTUS appointments.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

No, not unless it was Rand, and the GOP establishment was dead set against that happening, since Rand is a libetarian kook.

      1. commodious the plorable   10 years ago

It wouldn't take much to beat Shrillary. You might not have liked their choice, but it would have been leagues better than Shrillary.

    2. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

      The GOP was against Trump.

The difference in Trump winning was disaffected traditional Democrat, blue collar constituencies, who were sick of being hated by the elitists in the Democratic Party.

  286. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Now we are hitting on birther shit.

Hillary has been asked what...one question? A softball on her views on implicit racism comments she made?

    1. liechecker   10 years ago

Why do I feel like the emails shit isn't going to come up at all?

    1. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

Lester will bring that up right after he gets done talking about the Clinton Foundation.

    2. John   10 years ago

It did. She apologized and said it was a "mistake" towards the beginning. Trump hit her pretty good on it and said it was more than a mistake and we know that because so many people associated with it are pleading the fifth. I bet at least half the people watching this debate had no idea the people around Hillary are taking the Fifth. The media has done a very good job covering that up. Well, they know now.

      1. arbitrary wavefunction   10 years ago

I meant as a debate topic. Trump forced the issue once Lester pushed the tax returns thing.

        1. John   10 years ago

okay. Fuck no they won't touch that.

  298. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

    What a useless question.

  299. PurityDiluting   10 years ago

      1. (VERY VIP), Jr.   10 years ago

She took responsibility, John. Took. Responsibility.

      2. commodious the plorable   10 years ago

Much too much was made of the classified emails. Yes, those were bad, and in a just world she'd be clad in orange for it. But it's a side course to the main entree vis-a-vis SHE TRIED TO HIDE HER DEALINGS FROM THE PUBLIC BY MAINTAINING A PRIVATE SERVER. Then attempted to cover it up and lied about it. Comey's a stooge and that alone is damning whatever her subsidiary sins.

    4. thrakkorzog   10 years ago

    2. Brochettaward   10 years ago

If he phrased it better, it could have worked. He pushed for desegregation at a time when blacks really weren't allowed in those clubs. But he stumbled over himself with it.

  314. The Fusionist   10 years ago

    Cyberattacks?

OK, fair enoug, but what about the more traditional kind of attacks...the blow-up-y kind?

Oh, yeah, Russians working for Donald Trump.

  315. DenverJ   10 years ago

Oh, Shillary looking pissed when Trump talked about her campaign disrespecting Obama during 2008 campaign.

  316. liechecker   10 years ago

"Donald is very praiseworthy of Vladimir Putin" huh?

  317. Brochettaward   10 years ago

So...this whole debate was set-up to lob up talking points for Hillary. It's one set of issues they've used to attack Trump after another.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

      CNN. Did you expect different?

  318. Gray Ghost   10 years ago

Donald, if you can't cram her talking about cybersecurity right up her ass...

  319. SugarFree   10 years ago

Hillary is so concerned about cybersecurity she kept confidential state dept files on an unsecured and secret server.

    Fuck, Donald. Gut her.

  322. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

Seriously, Hillary is talking about cyber warfare and cyber security?

  325. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

  329. waffles   10 years ago

Looking at my FB feed this debate is like a totally fucked up Rorshach test.

  330. liechecker   10 years ago

And he doesn't even bring up the clintonemail.com server.... gah

  331. Gray Ghost   10 years ago

This, from the Admin that fucking let a Chinese contractor have root access to the database containing full SF-86s, among other things.

Goddamnit Donald, stop talking about how great you are! Start talking about how she screwed this up.

  332. Rufus The Monocled   10 years ago

He's not bringing the emails up?

    Wtf?

  333. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Despite the format, Hillary has set herself up perfectly throughout the night. Yet, Trump has dropped the ball consistently.

    1. liechecker   10 years ago

It helps that she's getting softball questions and Lester Holt opens up a second front against Trump occasionally.

      Trump's made some mistakes though.

    2. Calidissident   10 years ago

Trump needed to land devastating blows to Clinton to win - one liners that would be remembered at night's end. I haven't watched all of it, but so far I haven't seen it.

  334. SugarFree   10 years ago

Srsly. The blinking. It's weird, right? It's not just me?

    1. Joe M   10 years ago

      It's code - a blink code.

    3. arbitrary wavefunction   10 years ago

She just plugged one nostril and snorted a little. I'm sure there will be a GIF of that tomorrow.

    4. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

That's how Hillbot recharges her battery.

      1. SugarFree   10 years ago

Like regenerative braking on an electric car... that's really quite brilliant.

    5. Butts Wagner   10 years ago

Local news had a body language expert say that whoever blinks the most during the debate will lose the election. 8 out of last 9 elections prove this.

Someone counts blinks of candidates during debates. What a country!

      1. Atanarjuat   10 years ago

Better than some factions shooting at eachother. I think.

      2. SugarFree   10 years ago

I really want to see a blink count.

  335. The Fusionist   10 years ago

It was right there and he missed it...emails!

    1. The Fusionist   10 years ago

      What a cuck.

  336. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

Whoa, sitting on their bed weighing 400lbs? Hey, some of those people are commenting here!

    1. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Trump has a 10 year old who is great with computers. And we need to improve cyber security. What the connection is, I'll never know.

But that was the highlight of the night as it came out of nowhere.

  337. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

Yeah, it's hard to blame Lester when he's basically begging Trump to go after her for the emails, and Trump doesn't go for it.

    1. Hyperion   10 years ago

Maybe that Trump as Clinton plant wasn't as much conspiracy as most people thought?

      1. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

        Oh, come on.

        1. Hyperion   10 years ago

          That was sarcasm, you know.

      2. John   10 years ago

He did go after he when she apologized. Maybe his campaign figured that it wouldn't look presidential if he mentioned it too much. Also, not saying it is going to make him not attacking her the story of the post debate press, which will bring it to light just as much as if he had said anything.

        1. The Fusionist   10 years ago

          Let's see if that works.

  338. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

I don't think they're allowed to have water on the stage. Trump just drank illegal water. That's a scandal worthy of a -gate suffix. Can't think of good one, though.

      Four at most.

      1. Smilin' Joe Fission   10 years ago

Fine, Ken. I only had it on for 3 minutes before I shut it off. Why you gotta call me out like that?

      2. You Sound Like a Prog (MJG)   10 years ago

  340. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

    1. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

Ken, the Trump people loathe the "media," so the spin will not effect them. This debate is meaningless unless there is a huge gaffe by either person.

      1. liechecker   10 years ago

He looks terrible to the undecideds though. Those are the people who matter.

        1. John   10 years ago

I don't think he looks terrible. The worst thing you can say about Trump is that he didn't go after Hillary hard enough about her corruption. I am not sure "he didn't make her look like the lying criminal she is" is the same thing as looking terrible.

          1. liechecker   10 years ago

It was a missed opportunity. But the detours on stop and frisk and birtherism were terrible.

        2. Crusty Juggler   10 years ago

I can't imagine there are that many.

      2. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

    I was wrong.

    Swing and a miss.

  347. Suthenboy   10 years ago

The core messages of these two are so different I don't think either one is going to win anyone over. I cant imagine there are many undecideds out there at this point.

  348. SugarFree   10 years ago

  363. Gray Ghost   10 years ago

Fuck you Holt. Are you running for President? Then why are you arguing with Trump?

If there's any justice in our new Jacobean future, that guy'll end up in one of the guillotines sitting on the National Mall.

I hate to nitpick, but I think you mean Jacobin.

Jacobean means "of or relating to the reign of James I of England."

      1. MarkLastname   10 years ago

Gray Ghost subscribes to the esoteric conspiracy theory that Hillary is secretly part of a cabal seeking to use the presidency to reinstall the Stuart Dynasty to the British throne.

  364. Joe M   10 years ago

Trump's explanation of his position on Iraq is going to take an additional 90 minutes.

  365. Grand Moff Serious Man   10 years ago

  381. John   10 years ago

Hillary is now going to laud the Iran deal. You have to be fucking kidding me.

    1. SugarFree   10 years ago

They were almost to the point of having a nuclear weapon. To stop them we smuggled them 1.7 billion in cash under the cover of night. That will stop them right in their tracks, right?

    2. liechecker   10 years ago

And Trump isn't going to call her on it.

  382. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Now we have to pretend that the countries of NATO made some great commitment in Afghanistan. And most didn't pull out well before us. And that does what to change the fact that they aren't living up to their other treaty obligations and the money pumped into defending them since the end of WW2? They'd all be speaking Russian by now if not for us, but we are supposed to be grateful that they (mostly) sent some token troops to Afghanistan.

    3. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Did Hillary win? There's a lot of blue collar voters who are going to look at the early part of this debate, and it's the only part people cared about. They don't give a shit or buy what Hillary is selling about BLM or care about birtherism.

The NAFTA/TPP stuff sells for Trump.

    1. SIV   10 years ago

      Who could disagree?

      1. MarkLastname   10 years ago

It's a piss poor way of putting it. He should've pointed out that it's already illegal to pay women less than men, then mention some statistics (which he should've had on hand, since he had to know this was coming) illustrating that in many professions women earn more than men and urban, educated, single women earn on average more than urban, educated, single men. But given he probably had a family of Bonobos prepping him for the debate, what can we expect...

  426. The Fusionist   10 years ago

Yeah, I think all the evil people attribute to him boils down to simple juvenile narcissism. He can't stop making asides about himself even when he's not even relevant and he seems obsessed with being liked by whomever he's addressing. The CNN analysis is actually spot on. Trump was kicking her ass in the first 1/3 of the debate, then went into ADHD mode and floundered badly. Clinton was able to get into a robotic groove.

  452. The Fusionist   10 years ago

It turned out that lester's attempts to skew the debate toward Hillary were unnecessary. Donald was low-energy and defensive, Hillary was waving her dick around to good effect.

    1. liechecker   10 years ago

Hillary lied a ton, so one can forgive Trump for coming off as defensive, especially when the moderator started debating him.

  453. arbitrary wavefunction   10 years ago

I really hated that split screen, and also wonder why they stopped doing it (so Hillary was offscreen) while Trump was talking at one point.

  458. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

    Trump needed to look presidential.

I think Hillary came across more that way.

I think Hillary playing all liberal and cozy with BLM may hurt her in North Carolina.

I think Donald probably scored points in North Carolina by going law and order.

I think Hillary cleared a hurdle with her lead intact.

There's one more debate, but the undecideds only have one more debate after this one. A good half of those are probably calcifying in their preference right now as I type.

There still may be an October surprise upcoming. The Russians and Assange may not have had their last say.

Apart from that, Hillary cleared a big hurdle today. There's only one more debate to trip her up. It's looking better for Hillary now than it did before the debate started.

    1. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Trump's handlers need to just let him go nasty next time. For the entertainment. This whole 'look presidential' thing is bullshit.

Hillary set herself up despite all night despite getting gifts all night from Lester.

      1. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

"Trump's handlers need to just let him go nasty next time. For the entertainment."

I'm not sure it will matter next time.

There may not be many undecideds left by next time.

      2. liechecker   10 years ago

It wasn't a lack of being nasty that killed him, it was not following up on obvious avenues of attack in what Hillary was saying.

    2. liechecker   10 years ago

She looked like the adult in the room, which is what the undecideds are looking for at this point.

The blue collar workers are already with Trump, the BLM people with Hillary. They really don't matter.

    3. Brochettaward   10 years ago

To finish that thought, she'll do the same thing next go around. I don't know if Trump is that oblivious, or he was coached not to get too nasty or personal on the scandals because people already know about them.

    4. Don Escaped Texas   10 years ago

And you can't judge these things on style points. You never know what the public is going to pick up on. Ultimately, Hillary looked like the insider and the defender of the status quo and Trump looked like the pissed off outsider. The public will like or dislike what each candidate did based on their opinion of the status quo and of outsiders.

      1. Don Escaped Texas   10 years ago

538 gives Trump FL and OH ....and he still loses.

This is the furthest thing from a dead heat: popular votes don't matter.

        http://projects.fivethirtyeigh.....id=rrpromo

        1. John   10 years ago

Popular votes do matter. The winner of the popular vote has failed to win the electoral vote exactly once in the last 100+ years and that popular vote was less than 1% of difference. No on is going to win the popular vote by even three points and lose the electoral vote.

And the state polls are notoriously inaccurate. Who knows where these states are.

          1. Don Escaped Texas   10 years ago

Mr Silver's track record isn't undone by your hopeful paragraph.

            1. liechecker   10 years ago

He doesn't have much of a track record.

In 2012 anybody who know politics knew what the outcome of 45 of the states would be. Then you randomly pick the remaining 5 and get 47-48. So his "50 out of 50 correct" isn't really that impressive.

And 538 is always about two weeks behind reality. Hillary doesn't have a lead. I know that fact is devistating to face, but sometimes life is like that

This is the furthest thing from a dead heat: popular votes don't matter.

While you are correct in assessing that Hillary is in the stronger position, saying this isn't a dead heat strikes me as odd. If you look at the 538 assessment, Hillary is ahead by just a single state, which is as much of a dead heat as a presidential election can get. It doesn't matter which state, if Trump can flip any single state currently in her column to his he wins, so I'd say this is a close race.

          1. Hyperion   10 years ago

You Republican retards, you decided to reject not only the traditional leadership of your party (good thing) but the conservative alternatives (bad thing) - instead you thought that the way to take back the White House after 8 years of suckitude, and facing off against one of the crookedest Democrats out there, was to nominate this guy?

And you said that at least Trump was tough and could give his enemies the smackdown they deserved.

Then he lets Hillary beat him up and give him a swirlie.

And the MSM moderator's efforts to skew the debate turn out to be quite superfluous.

And it's for *this* that we expect us to put up with your sellouts on just about everything conservatives hold dear?

Up yours, Trump, go back to New York City and your Democratic buddies.

        1. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

They were just white, blue collar people who are sick of being called stupid, racist, selfish, homophobes by progressive elitists in the Democratic Party for being skeptical of global warming, white, middle class, and Christian.

There was no grand plot of tens of millions of Democrats. Those people are Red State are off their rocker.

          1. MarkLastname   10 years ago

Meh, I'm still not convinced that a great many, perhaps majority of the Republican base aren't just indifferent, if not outright ambivalent, about economic freedom and limited government, and weren't just waiting for a populist candidate to sweep them off their feet. This election has given me the impression that the whole 'limited government' lip service is unfortunately just a platitude of the conservative elite, much like all the SJW nonsense in the Democrats; something in which the base generally has little interest.

            1. waffles   10 years ago

You're saying my libertarian inclinations are no different than the same political motivation that drives someone deep into the bowels of the SJW fight? Say it ain't so! That's a pretty dim view. But Rand didn't catch fire, Trump did. Yuck.

              1. MarkLastname   10 years ago

Sadly, this seems to be the case. The libertarianish (or I guess I might say 'selectively small government in theory if not in practice') wing of the GOP is confined largely to 'elites.' The common voters are more populist leaning. Unfortunately.

Incidentally, if Hillary wins, I'll be talking a lot about social contract while she's in office.

If Hillary wins the presidency after taking money from foreign governments while she was the Secretary of State, then we are no longer a nation of laws.

I suppose I'll still be guided by my ethics, but if Hillary wins, I don't think anyone is morally obligated to follow any federal law--certainly not just because it's a law.

The part about how our legal obligations are contingent on our rulers doing likewise is the very best part of social contract theory. Sometimes, you gotta throw somebody's tea into the harbor.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L397TWLwrUU

    1. Troy muy grande boner   10 years ago

This nation ceased to be a nation of law on July 5, 2016. If I got the meme right...... We've already learned the Constitution is for sale. Now we are just dickering over the price.

      1. Ken Shultz   10 years ago

We can get it back with another President.

But I'll never accept Hillary as legitimate.

Legitimacy is the right and acceptance of an authority, usually a governing law or a r?gime . . . . An authority viewed as legitimate often has the right and justification to exercise power. Political legitimacy is considered a basic condition for governing, without which a government will suffer legislative deadlock(s) and collapse. In political systems where this is not the case, unpopular r?gimes survive because they are considered legitimate by a small, influential ?lite.[1]

In moral philosophy, the term "legitimacy" is often positively interpreted as the normative status conferred by a governed people upon their governors' institutions, offices, and actions, based upon the belief that their government's actions are appropriate uses of power by a legally constituted government.[2]

        http://tinyurl.com/j6kzjyx

I will never accept Hillary Clinton as our legitimate President.

She accepted money from foreign governments while she was the Secretary of State, so in my book, she has no legitimate basis by which to execute the laws--not even if she wins an election.

I do think Hillary won the debate when judging by regular debating standards, but I don't know how it will play with the average person (it's impossible to come to these things with an open mind when you read a lot of news, so I really have no idea how low-info people will take it). I think it will all hinge on how sincere Clinton appeared to the average voter, as if they thought she was sincere they'll buy her spiel but if not I think Trump's few high points (such as criticizing her for flaunting the endorsement of, in his terms, "political hacks" and the multiple times he criticized politicians as a class of people - including making a point about empty words) will land and outweigh his many, many missed opportunities to nail her.

    5. thrakkorzog   10 years ago

I'm not a big fan of online polls, after all there is nothing to start the comments section over at Breitbart to start hitting up every poll they could find, left or right.

Helps that it looks like the Saints are only playing eight guys on defense half the time.

  479. C. Anacreon   10 years ago

There were so many softballs that Trump could have knocked out of the park. Early on, Hillary droned about how she's going to give everyone tons of free stuff and create 10 million highway construction jobs by 'getting the rich to pay their fair share."
Mr Trump, how will you get jobs? All he could do is mumble about China stealing jobs and air conditioner companies moving to Mexico. How difficult would it have been to say this:
"Lester, companies are fleeing the USA for other countries and taking their jobs with them. And do you know one reason why? Our corporate tax rate is the highest in the developed world. That scares manufacturers and innovators away.
If you want tax revenues, you can't take so much that companies and people just move away. Right now, we're taxing many people over 50 percent of their income! That means people are working to pay taxes for more of the year than they are paying for their own families. When that starts to happen, people lose interest in working harder or starting new businesses.
I don't think we should be punishing the job creators in this country, we should be encouraging them. And we shouldn't be acting like these people aren't paying their 'fair share', whatever that's supposed to be, Secretary Clinton -- what do you want, 90% of their income to go to taxes and the other 10% as a donation to the Clinton Foundation?
Let's create an environment where people will want to start businesses, and the tax revenue will be much better as a result.

    1. The Fusionist   10 years ago

      Shit, that was awesome.

    2. AlmightyJB   10 years ago

People don't understand the issues or policy, but they understand what scum the media are.

I read that in his voice.

Seriously, that's as perfect of a response as one could give -- opportunity blown.

      1. Gadfly   10 years ago

He blew a ton of opportunities in the debate. I was often thinking how much better it would have been to have a Cruz or a Rubio (well, except for that one time...) facing off against her. I know Paul would have been the favorite around here to be on that stage, but while I'm sure he would have done a decent job handling policy questions he's never impressed me as a good debater - I think he just lacks the "presence" to get his good ideas to land a hit. On the other hand, a lot of Trump's missed opportunities were on issues Hillary brought up that she probably would not have brought up against another candidate, as she was very brazen in calling out Trump for doing things that she has essentially done worse.

        1. Mic_Airz   10 years ago

Cruz probably would've had a good combination of acuity, knowledge, debate skill, and balls to be a better challenge for Hillary. But, Trump's support is largely based on the perception among his base that he's an outsider trying to clean up Washington. Cruz would've just been seen as another establishment pro-wall street evil Republican who ultimately loses to the benevolent woman democrat. It's kind of a catch 22.

Trump has an enthusiastic base who are not backing down, even at his dumbest moments. He has record breaking support. But, he is clearly not coherent in debates and is constantly defending his image and talking about himself. Hillary is a seasoned politician -- not sure his primary debate strategy is going to work here.

  480. Cyto   10 years ago

You can tell a lot about people's true leanings by looking at their reaction to this execrable debate.

Hillary gave answers that were by turns meaningless circular logic (How do we heal the racial divide? By coming together in our communities!), horrifically bad policy choices that will do the opposite of her stated goals (we are going to bring jobs and money back from overseas by finally making the rich and corporations pay their fare share of taxes) and just plain stupid (The birthplace of Obama thing that I started is racist, so Trump is a racist for picking it up).

Trump was inanely repetitive, saying the same half-sentence over and over and over in the same speechlet. His style was obviously coached to look measured, but he sounded dopey and confused, and he failed to grasp the salient point that was dangling in front of him time and time again. And the 2nd amendment and due process.... wow.

Reason's writers definitely live up to their cosmotarian label with this live tweet.

And I really wish I had won the debate in my house over whether to watch the debate. Holy crap, what a waste of time. But I knew that going in, because neither the Giant Douche nor the Turd Sandwich was going to win my vote over the Big Johnson, no matter how they outperformed expectations.

          Separated by a sheet?

          1. The Fusionist   10 years ago

No, because people who wear sheets tend to swear to support "eternal separation of church and state."

    3. Stormy Dragon   10 years ago

You can tell a lot about people's true leanings by looking at their reaction to this execrable debate.

What does it say about my leanings if I turned it off about 40 minutes in because I just couldn't take it any longer?

    Is it, is it over?

    Here you go:

    Time Poll

      90-9 for Trump on Drudge
      50-50 on Fortune

      1. Hyperion   10 years ago

Trump is winning the poll at Slate. That's right, fucking Slate.

        Yikes

        1. Sevo   10 years ago

Missed the entire thing (darn!), but the voting at Slate is curious to say the least.

          1. Hyperion   10 years ago

            I didn't watch it either.

There's not a single post debate poll anywhere on the internet, yet, in which Trump didn't win. Not one. It's just a question of 90% or 60%. Still looking.

            1. Nativist, Racist & Xenophobe   10 years ago

I did watch it, I can only believe I watched a different debate than everyone else. I didn't think Trump did himself any good at all. I figured it would be a wash, at best. I think I'll wait until tomorrow when the real polls come out. I just don't believe those numbers.

            2. Gadfly   10 years ago

Online polls are wildly unscientific, so they could be all being swayed by super-fans or trolls. It does make one wonder, however, why there are not more of the supposedly tech-savvy Democratic super-fans out there doing their part to make their glorious leader look good on the internet.

              1. thrakkorzog   10 years ago

Off the top of my head, there are some Dems out there that are as disappointed in Hillary's debate performance as the Trump supporters are with the Don's performance. This was her chance to expose Trump as the racist, sexist, xenophobic whatever else -ist he is, and she blew it.

That's also ignoring the huge enthusiasm gap between the two candidates.

  483. Ceci n'est pas un woodchipper   10 years ago

Holy shit. One of these two people will be president. It's between a coarse, rude, ill-spoken idiot and a lying, cheating, narcissistic populist. These are terrible, terrible people. It's gonna be a long four years.

  484. Careless   10 years ago

Go to politico to see what they had to say about the debate and read the "wrongometer"

The first thing they have is that Trump falsely said something he didn't say, and inadvertently say that what he said was correct. *sigh*

    1. MarkLastname   10 years ago

      Wow, that's meta.

  485. Lord at War   10 years ago

Trump missed big on the "tax increases"/"tax returns" questions... Hire me KellyAnne!

Trump: "Hillary, if it is truly a matter of fairness, and rich people think their taxes should be raised-- I'm sure you paid much more last year than was required by the current tax law signed by Barack Obama... How much extra did you actually pay?" "Just saying..."

Trump: "Of course I'm not releasing my tax returns, you might find out I once took a $4 charitable deduction for my used underwear. Oh, that was actually Bill and Hillary Clinton."
