This GOP Congressman Compared Donald Trump To Thomas Jefferson. Then Things Got Weird
Louis Gohmert wanted Ted Cruz to get the Republican nomination. Watch his attempt to justify voting for Donald Trump.

At the Republican National Convention, I ran into Rep. Louis Gohmert, a conservative Texan probably best-known for his spending record (pretty good) and suggesting that Clinton aide Huma Abedin was part of the Muslim Brotherhood and that "terror babies" were a thing (obviously, he never met MY children).
In Cleveland, he's got a more difficult task: How to reconcile voting for Donald J. Trump after the billionaire argued that the father of Gohmert's pick, Ted Cruz, was involved in the assassination of the John F. Kennedy. Even if Trump was just trolling by repeating baseless claims made in a tabloid, it shows lack of seriousness at best if not a delusional mind (recall also Trump's deep interest in Barack Obama's birth certificate).
Gohmert was talking to me and XM/Sirius' Michelangelo Signorile. His attempt to fit Trump into a place where he's not just a phony jackass but in fact presidential material is pretty incredible. And by incredible, I mean pretty sad.
For Gohmert, tying Ted Cruz's pa to the killing of JFK was one of a seemingly endless stream of rhetorical Rubicons that Trump has waded through while marching to the GOP presidential ticket. Gohmert's rationale for what that particular calmuny is not a disqualifier perhaps shows how many Republicans who realize Trump is an unqualified clown will come to vote for him anyway.
Gohmert essentially says, I'll tell you what: Jefferson hired a journalist to slander John Adams during the election of 1800 and Jefferson turned out to be a pretty good president. "There are examples out there of people changing and growing."
One more reason that this RNC isn't a nominating convention, it's a wake.
Check out the video below, which in its own, compelling way, helps explain why just 26 percent of voters indentify as Republican.
And of course, after watching above, take a minute to check out Reason TV's "Attack Ads Circa 1800," produced by Meredith Bragg:

It's not fair characterizing the Republican convention based on its attendees.
I decide who should be president based on whose Song they steal license for the candidate's entrance/exit theme music.
Eye of the Tiger, in my opinion, defeats whatever this is
This or no vote from me.
You have my vote, and my fist pump
Eye of the Tiger
Thankfully, this version is the one that sticks in my head.
sorry, but that will not help rocky beat clubber lang.
My co-worker's step-sister made $14200 the previous week. she gets paid on the laptop and moved in a $557000 condo. All she did was get blessed and apply the guide leaked on this web site.. Go Here.... http://www.trends88.com
I laughed.

Is it really that difficult to rationalize killing the man who was a willing accomplice in nearly starting a nuclear winter?
That Jefferson comparison is brilliant. He's laying the groundwork for when Trump advocates for the return of slavery.
Or if it turns out he stromthurmond'd a black maid.
So I seen Trump, mmmhunh, laying on Ted, mmmhunh. Well, I had to maker right, mmmhunh..
The president's job is to stand around and make words that his handlers feed him. You're deluding yourself if you're expecting anything more than that.
"Listen, we all know the White House would work so much better if there wasn't a President, but there is. So, we work around that. And we do that by sticking to the same fucking words."
That's some nice clickbait title, Lou.
He looks like Matt Lauer if you asked him about that affiar with Natalie Morales.
...Not that Natalie Morales, right?
It's been a rumor for years.
The older one on the Today show, I mean.
MORE ABOUT THE PLAGUERISING, THIS SUCKED
Trump's biggest offense appears to be he exposes the lie that the political process is serious business performed by serious people. It's always been a clownshow. Now we just don't have to pretend anymore.
If one thinks the "imperial presidency" needs to be taken down a notch or two, he is in fact a godsend.
I think people need to stop thinking "presidents made things happen" and put so much emphasis on the political importance of the speechmaker-in-cheef
People might start realizing that they have to be more specific about the policy demands they made, and that vague clamoring for a good-hearted savior will bring only doom and despair.
^This. I want a President that will NOT restore false faith in government. Creating skeptics is a start.

Phbbt... LOL. Did you manage to type it with a straight face?
If eight years of Bush II and eight years of Obama haven't cured America of its inexplicable monarchophilia, neither Trump or Hillary will.
This has all happened before and will happen again. Time is a flat circle. I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.
we'll see.
imo, this last of the old-guard, and that there's not a whole lot of the same left in the dugout.
On the other hand, the fawning and defensiveness of his fans suggest that Trump will not lower the stature of the Imperial Presidency.
Sure, he will for his liberal opponents, but so did Bush. And so did Obama for conservatives.
his actual "fans" are a minority of a minority. most voters for trump will do so while holding down their projectile-vomit.
I'm sure Trump has fewer loyalists and apologists than Obama did in 08, but he does have a bunch of conservatives and FOX News personalities behind him. There are still going to be a bunch of people defending him and glorifying his administration as fabulously classy. Liberals/progressives will be embarrassed, as they were with Bush II and as they would be if Ted Cruz were in the WH. Rockefeller Republicans will still hold the executive in high esteem, we just need to get Trump outta there.
Maybe some moderate Republicans will come to see the office and the process for what it is. But all else equal, and thinking long-term, I doubt the number of disillusioned Americans will ultimately be yuge.
Amen
Trump is the Zaphod Beeblebrox of this election. I'm not sure why the mainstream geek media hasn't figured this one out yet. He's the perfect candidate! Just compare the antics of Zaphod Beeblebrox with Trump's.
And along that theme, I've found Obama's speeches becoming more and more like Vogon poetry....
If only Trump had won Worst Dressed Sentient Being, but Drake tied that down tight.
That's an interesting mash-up of Screech & Erkel
Very A E S T H E T I C
I hate to say it but this convention does look a lot like the movie Idocity. We can only hope that this destroys the GOP and pray or hope that something better comes along. I've decided I can't vote for this guy or the politicians that support him.
Actually the Jefferson reference is pretty good. Politicians used to say all kinds of heinous things about each other. It literally triggered duels.
They called Mrs. Lincoln a confederate whore.
I left my office-jobs and now I am getting paid 98 usd hourly. How? I work over internet! My old work was making me miserable, so I was forced to try something different, 2 years after...I can say my life is changed-completely for the better! Check it out what i do..

Man: the rational(izing) animal.
