Here's an argument against the Second Amendment you don't hear very often:

If President Liz Warren went over the edge with progressive authoritarianism, it probably wouldn't be necessary for armed civilians to rise up against the U.S. military and protect the Constitution. I'd like to think the U.S. military would step in itself and stage a popular coup--like the Turkish military used to do periodically. We probably won't need the Second Amendment for that.

If armed civilians ever need to rise up against against the U.S. military to defend the Constitution, it'll probably be to overthrow a right-wing government that has the full support of the military brass. In other words, it's the progressives who should be worried about protecting the Second Amendment.

The guy who wrote that article simply does not understand the US military.

The US military *is not right wing*, its not made up of a block of people who love the Republican Party. The only reason the GOP gets a lot of military votes is because they're the party that loves to *openly* espouse giving the military (an by extension all the people in it, especially those approaching retirement looking for cushy private/government sector jobs providing support) more money. And that's the extent of military support for the GOP - keep giving us shit and we'll keep liking you.

When it comes down to it, the vast majority of the military couldn't care less. In addition, personal loyalties to senior commanders is . . . tenuous at best. The upper levels of the military are not filled with hand-picked officers who owe their careers to any single person or group. Nor do officers have the sort of complete authority over subordinates that they do in a military like Turkey's. If the president says 'you're fired', that commander is fired. No one is going to stick their neck out, let alone a large percentage of his subordinate units, to mutiny.

This country could be openly marching straight towards fascism/communism and there'd still be no way for anyone in the military to get enough traction to start a coupe. Certainly not one that'd be successful.

I've read some of his apologetics, and nothing ever jumped out at me as being denominational at all.
