Man Fined $175 for Unbuckling His Seatbelt to Give Money to a Homeless Person
The homeless person was actually an undercover cop.

Sometimes, you just have to admire the creativity of the police. When they don't have enough real criminals (or perhaps the word is "cash"), they can be endlessly inventive. In fact, the best among them can create nefarious miscreants out of saintly do-gooders.
That's exactly what happened up in Regina, Canada, last week, when police caught a man named Dane Rusk not wearing a seatbelt.
Why had Dane dared to disengage the safety device? He had been leaving the local mall, all buckled up, when he came to a stop sign:
"I stopped and looked and I saw this homeless guy holding a sign," [Dane] Rusk said. "I instantly felt sorry for him."
He unbuckled his belt to get to his wallet and give the guy $3. And for being in a car with his belt unbuckled, he received a $175 traffic ticket.
The panhandler was actually an undercover cop.
Moments after giving the guy some money:
Rusk was pulled over by police and issued a ticket.
"I said, 'What do you mean? I didn't talk to any police officer,' and he said, 'Well ya, you gave him money,'" Dusk said.
"I said, 'Oh, the homeless guy?'"
The person Rusk handed change to was an undercover cop, and Rusk received the fine for not wearing a seat belt.
Rusk said he was "pretty shocked" by the incident. "The ticket's $175 and the three dollars I gave to him – I'm out $178 all because I was trying to help out a homeless guy."
The police went on to explain that the real reason they went after Rusk was that intersections are dangerous and somehow he was contributing to that. But perhaps the biggest crime in Regina is trying to be a decent human being.

Wasn't the undercover cop inducing people to stop at the intersection the one who was really contributing to that?
Entrapment (and endangerment) is a fiction.
Entrapment only works when it involves Catherine Zeta-Jones dipping beneath lasers.
Michael Douglas would disagree. Entrapment clearly causes cancer.
"The ticket's $175 and the three dollars I gave to him ? I'm out $178 all because I was trying to help out a homeless guy."
In other words, if you give $3 cash to a cop, you're not getting it back.
Not even if it the money was obtained fraudulently.
And, sure, I understand the crude, handlettered sign the cop said something like "I don't need money - God bless," but of course if the motorist craned his neck to read the entire sign he'd probably have been ticketed for not keeping his eye on the road.
Scruffy guy holding up crude handlettered sign = someone who wants money.
Either they're an honest beggar, a scam artist, or a cop who is looking for money from tickets.
You said "scam artist" twice.
Did he get back his $3? I'm surprised they didn't consider it a bribe.
This would never happen to a white person.
He should certainly take this to court. Make it as painful and embarrassing as possible for the police and prosecution.
The cops kept the $3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, Canada!
Pittsburgh versus San Jose.
"Without government, who would take care of the homeless?"
"I would."
"Let me see your driver's license and the registration and insurance on your vehicle."
On the plus side, I guess it's safe to assume all the real crime in Regina,Canada has been solved. /sarc

Y'all know what rhymes with Regina, right?
Hitlergina?
Angina?
Old woman: I have acute angina!
Old man: I sure hope so... 'cause your tits sure are ugly.
Whenever I'm asked for a postal code and I don't fell like using my real one, I use V4G 1N4.
Unfiller? I hardly knew 'er!
Dolores?
Mulva?
Fun.
$3 Canadian? That's like a nickel in real money, right?
I'm just proud that they have graduated to real currency. Just a few years ago, they would have slipped him a few beaver pelts instead.
Nope: two coins, either which is considerably bigger than a nickel.

Dick comment of the day (hour?): Seattle gives money to the homeless. We ended up getting a lot more... and I mean a LOT more homeless.
I noticed more tents among the trees than usual when I went to the Mariner's game.
You get more of the behavior you reward. That's why I don't give anything to beggars at intersections. It just ensures that they'll keep coming back.
Where do you live. Whatever you saw, no matter how bad you saw it is actually better than it's been. Because the city has begun 'clearing'.
What I mean to say is, no matter how bad you thought it was on Sunday, it was worse three months ago. Way, way worse.
ENABLING BUMS IS NOT DECENCY, LENORE!!
If you're gullible enough "to feel sorry" for a panhandler running his scam at a traffic light, then you deserve your stupidity fine.
And they say libertarians are heartless.
*reconsiders all of his past life choices*
How long was it in that video before the twerking started? I made it about 15 seconds of "singing" before I had to give up.
You disappoint me HM. You spend years conditioning me to start drooling at the thought of watching a rump shaking video when I see you post. Then you post something like that?
I bet you think it is funny to pretend to throw a ball for a dog and watch him run around confused.
Actually, I do.
I dunno, HM, I don't see much scamming these days. The whole "disabled vet" thing has pretty much given way to "broke, throw me some cash".
I one time walked past a guy in his mid-twenties who screamed at me to "buy his fucking painting already so he could get a one way plane ticket to Hawaii." It was in your neck of the woods no less.
at least he was offering goods in exchange for money. Much better than another who tried to extort me by following me around and screaming for me to give him cash for like 6 blocks in DC.
In what world would $3 buy a plane ticket to hawaii?
True story: I was sitting at a Teahouse in the international district yesterday, and I observed a homeless guy discussing his merger on a cell phone for over half an hour.
Going to tape his cardboard box to another one?
FTFY.
Has nothing to do with safety. Pure revenue generation.
Them men, acting as police officers, participating in this deceptive practice, should be ashamed of themselves. They were definitely not serving the public.
The men... Not them men. Thanks
This is exactly why I don't give money to intersection bums. Exactly!
Well, that will cure this law breaker from assisting the needy! Who the hell does he think he is?
The old guy who fed the homeless?
when police caught a man named Dane Rusk not wearing a seatbelt.
Once you pay for the Dane belt...
That elicited something between a groan and a laugh.
If the intersection is dangerous, keep it clear of "homeless" people.
YOU GO, REGINA!
Just wanted to say that ...
Unfukinbelievable. I don't know how they sleep at night.
Just goes to show you, pigs are pigs, no matter what country they're from.
