Reason Nominated for a Record 19 Southern California Journalism Awards
From sex trafficking to Star Wars, criminal justice to campus rape, Reason was on it!

Last year we Reasonoids were all psyched up after being nominated for a record 18 journalism awards by the Greater Los Angeles Press Club, which covers publications and journalists between San Ysidro and Santa Barbara (we eventually took home four gold medals). Well, I'm pleased to announce that this year the Reason juggernaut, which calls Los Angeles home, saw that total and raised it one.
Here are your nominees for best work in journalism covering the calendar year 2015:
* Best Humor/Satire Writing: Austin Bragg, Meredith Bragg and Andrew Heaton, for "Star Wars Libertarian Special."
* Best Public Service News or Feature: Elizabeth Nolan Brown, for "The War on Sex Trafficking Is the New War on Drugs: And the results will be just as disastrous, for 'perpetrators' and 'victims' alike," and Robert W. Poole, Jr., for "Who's Going to Pay for New Highways? Our Interstates are wearing out. Here's what we need to do to fix them."
* Best Science/Health/Technology Reporting: Todd Krainin, for "The Alternative Medicine Racket: How the Feds Fund Quacks."
* Best Political/Government Reporting: Damon Root, for "Trump vs. the Constitution: The misguided attack on birthright citizenship," and Timothy P. Carney, for "The Crony Capitalism Litmus Test: The Ex-Im Bank won't survive 2015—if the GOP is serious about free market principles."
* Best Magazine Investigative Article: Robby Soave, for "Junk Science and Campus Rape: A new inquiry casts serious doubt on the most influential study on collegiate sexual assault."

* Best Magazine Entertainment Review/Criticism/Column: Jacob Sullum, for "Bill Bennett's Pot Prevarications: A former drug czar's dazed and confused defense of marijuana prohibition," and Glenn Garvin, for "The Unbearable Awfulness of Campaign Lit: We read seven 2016 presidential wannabes' books so you don't have to."

Reason's 2015 journalism was also nominated for six awards by the Western Publishing Association (which covers work west of the Rockies), winning one.

Congratulations on the nominations.
Ew.
Few people are familiar with the etymology of that term.
Am I the only one who, on first glance at the headline, thought Reason had been indicted on 19 charges?
one for each embedded video in the post?
seriously, wtf, links.
"From sex trafficking to Star Wars"
Mmmmm...slave Leia...
+1 metal bikini
what's the point. Yeah, I get it, the metal is cold so her nipples get erect, but YOU CAN'T TELL THROUGH THE METAL ANYWAY.
so cmon down to Watto's Sex Slave Boutique, we have the best selection of skimpy slaveware this side of the Corellian Run.
* Best Group Blog: You're readin' it!
It's the only thing we do read.
ZING!
It's the only thing we do read.
Get a load of Losie McLoserface here, reading the blog. Ha! Nobody reads the blog, they just skim the comments and add snarky "witticisms" of their own.
There's a blog attached to this comment forum?
* Greatest Commenter Ever: Fist of Etiquette, for his or her "Dons Sunglasses" commentary series.
Again, we're passed over for "Worst Commentariat"
I started watching the last Alaskans. It's pretty good.
And I've been watching Alone! It's quite good - I like the competition aspect, too.
Again, we're passed over for "Worst Commentariat"
Well, maybe next year...
*sighs, kicks rock, Keane begins playing softly in background*
Let's hope you don't end up getting the Scorsese Treatment.
And the winner for Reason's favorite Canadian is....
RUFUS!
/jumps out of seat runs to podium. Gropes first lady he sees.
Tries to think of snarky comment, grudgingly agrees.
