Obama Blasts Political Correctness, 'Fragile' Students in Rutgers Speech
"Don't feel like you got to shut your ears because you're too fragile and somebody might offend your sensibilities," said Obama.

President Obama strongly condemned the rising anti-intellectual streak on the right—but also on the left—in his remarks at Rutgers University's spring commencement on Sunday.
He harshly attacked the policies and rhetoric of Donald Trump (without mentioning him by name), asserting that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee's deliberate ignorance is destructive.
"That's not challenging political correctness," said Obama. "That's just not knowing what you're talking about."
But he reserved some time at the end of his speech to also criticize students who are too "fragile" to listen to people whose opinions offend them. He said it was a mistake for students to seek to disinvite speakers with whom they disagree.
"I know a couple years ago some folks on this campus got upset that Condoleezza Rice was supposed to speak at a commencement," said Obama. "I don't think it's a secret that I disagree with many of the foreign policies of Dr. Rice and the previous administration. But the notion that this community or the country would be better served by not hearing from a former secretary of state or shutting out what she had to say, I believe that is misguided."
The answer to bad speech is more speech, Obama continued.
"If you disagree with somebody, bring them in and ask them tough questions," he said. "Hold their feet to the fire, make them defend their positions. If somebody's got a bad or offensive idea, prove it wrong. Engage it, debate it, stand up for what you believe in. Don't be scared to take somebody on. Don't feel like you got to shut your ears because you're too fragile and somebody might offend your sensibilities. Go after them if they're not making any sense. Use your logic and reason and words, and by doing so you'll strengthen your own position. And you'll hone your arguments and maybe you'll learn something and realize maybe you don't know everything. You may have a new understanding, not only of what your opponents believe but what of you belie. Either way, you win."
The speech provides yet more evidence that Obama is a genuine proponent of free speech on campus, although his administration's policies have not always reflected this stated commitment.
But no matter whether Hillary Clinton or Trump win the 2016 election, the next President of the United States is likely to be a more dangerous enemy of the First Amendment than the current one.

"The speech provides yet more evidence that Obama is a genuine proponent of free speech on campus, although his administration's policies have not always reflected this stated commitment."
Yep, just like he's running the most transparent administration EVAH!
Good sarc, Robby.
that's Robby's polite way of saying that Obama is still a duplicitous douche who will say anything while doing the exact opposite. If The Hair actually believes that, then just fucking wow.
Obama is not a proponent of free speech on campus. His administration has demanded campus speech codes of unprecedented severity, as the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education has noted:
This is a good cop, bad cop routine by Obama. He says nice things about free speech, while his loyal political appointees attack free speech at every opportunity. If he really supported free speech, his appointees would not dare attack it, since the heads of the Office for Civil Rights and the Civil Rights Division -- which are responsible for demanding campus speech codes -- can be fired at will, and have no civil-service protection. (I say this as someone who worked in the Office for Civil Rights as a lawyer).
The Obama Justice Department is demanding unconstitutional speech codes at the University of New Mexico (defininig harassment to include all "unwelcome" sexual speech, no matter how unreasonable a listener's objection to the speech), which violates court rulings like DeJohn v. Temple University:
http://goo.gl/PQ4CiW
In 2013, the Justice and Education Departments demanded a speech code at the University of Montana:
http://chronicle.com/article/D.....ic/139463/
Education writer Joanne Jacobs wrote that the speech restrictions the Obama administration demanded at the University of Montana were so broad that they would effectively "make every student a sex harasser."
Free speech is much more at risk under Democratic -- rather than Republican -- administrations, because the media (comprised mostly of Democrats) tends to turn a blind eye to attacks on free speech by Democratic administrations, emboldening liberal officials to attack free speech in ways that conservatives would not dare.
For examples, see here: http://goo.gl/LscaHB
Obama has also turned a blind eye to the targeting of conservative and libertarian non-profits by the IRS (in violation of the First Amendment), ensuring that the Justice Department would do nothing about it.
The IRS's discrimination against non-liberal groups is nothing new, and has occurred under prior Democratic presidents (such as FDR, whose son says that he was likely the president who began the practice of using the IRS against his enemies).
Democratic President Kennedy's use of "IRS agents" against his enemies was celebrated by liberal columnists like the Washington Post's Dana Milbank. As the Cato Institute's Gene Healy notes, "In a November 2011 column, the Washington Post's Dana Milbank offered 'A Machiavellian model for Obama' in Jack Kennedy's 'kneecapping' and 'mob-style threats' against steel-company executives who'd dared to raise prices." By contrast, Nixon tried but failed to get the IRS to audit his enemies.
(I am aware that administration allies have falsely claimed that liberal groups were singled out in a similar way (debunked here: http://goo.gl/D3GXTk )
Thanks for the extra detail, Hans.
I'm with Sevo, wareagle, and hans bader. I find it incredibly disingenuous for Obama to be saying these things. It's as if he's trying to cover his tracks from the last eight years. I feel it's like his Presidential campaign speeches-he knows the *correct* things to say but whether he stands behinds those words, well that's a much different story.
I'druther a Libertarian in office, but til that day comes I'll take a Republican who can fight the lefty fascism wave in this country.
That's what happened in South America. When faced with far leftism/socialism, right-wing governments purged them.
I for one am glad... Else Chile would be another version of North Korea. Venezuela looks to be well on its way to a similar place...
Yes. It's too bad so many people lost their lives though.
But I wonder if that's something the left created.
But I wonder if that's something the left created.
Sort of, yes. Allende was building loyal paramilitary groups with foreign advisors when the coup happened. When the Pinochet government came in, it was faced with a lot of armed opposition. It's options were round them up or face civil war.
Pinochet was certainly a bastard. But, his options were constrained.
North Korea is a right wing military dictatorship. South Korea is the neoliberal puppet state.
Well put Hans.
I laughed all the way through what he said.
He's the master of saying the right thing (because he's right) but we're kidding ourselves if his administration didn't have a part to play in what goes on in campuses. And it's further dubious to claim there's *more* anti-intellectualism on the right, when the majority of policies and ideas that threaten free speech and expression comes from the left.
it is especially irritating that while he's saying the right thing and everyone knows he means none of it, here comes Robby to cut him some slack instead of simply calling bullshit outright. This is not a case of the how "the adminstration's policies have not reflected the stated commitment," it's that the commitment does not exist.
Gotta keep getting invited to those cocktail parties with his liberal peers, brah.
That is a general statement about the media. They tend to do their job against non-Leftists who behave badly. They tend to ignore Leftists' infractions.
Awwww...cut the guy some slack, Hans. I'm sure he'll read about the Department of Education's promotion of this nonsense any day now in the New York Times. Now, only if there was someone he could contact who could do anything about it....
Hans Bader's criticism of Mr. Obama is a bit disingenuous. The current administration understands that we need speech codes on our campuses not to stop anyone from politely expressing an unpopular opinion, but to protect students from inappropriate sexual advances, and professors from inappropriately deadpan Gmail "parodies" that assault their integrity and besmirch their reputations. Would Bader actually dare to defend the outrageous "First Amendment dissent" of a single, isolated, liberal judge in America's leading criminal "satire" case? See the documentation at:
http://raphaelgolbtrial.wordpress.com/
The only reason he said anything at all is because trump tapped into a vein, brought out in the forefront that we are becoming, have become, too politically correct. Obama doesn't give a crap about free speech.
That was the first thing that stuck out at me, too.
He's trying his "elder statesman" robes on for size.
Too bad he's fucking naked.
No, he has a fabulous purple robe that only non-racists can see, apparently you failed the test, racist.
GET YOUR HATE SPEECH OFF OUR CAMPUS!
By bring them in for tough questions he means via subpoena.
+ Spanish Inquisition.
I didn't expect that.
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.
*wipes away tear, applauds approvingly
If you want your free speech you can keep your free speech.
+1 death spiral
"But the notion that this community or the country would be better served by not hearing from a former secretary of state or shutting out what she had to say, I believe that is misguided."
Let's not pretend that he's saying this out of principle. It's naked self interest.
He's planning to go FULL JIMMY CARTER and stick his nose everywhere post-presidency.
In post-impeachment Brazil, the new conservative Cabinet is 100% white men
I LOVE IT when the LA Times plays with fire.
Man, that is funny. Zero self-awareness.
I'm sure that if Brazil just listens to the LA Times all of their problems will disappear.
I'm sure that if Brazil just listens to the LA Times all of their problems will disappear
Socialism will work this time, we'll get the right people, just trust us.
Venezuela is proof you don't need more than a couple deodorants.
I can't figure out how it is they're down to zero choices in deodorant and utopia has yet to appear.
Someone, somewhere, is hoarding deodorant, thus preventing the sweet flower of socialist utopia from spreading across the land.
Death to Obstructionist wreckerzzz!!1!1!!!!!!
I guess Brazil government didn't get the memo about the required quotas.
What new conservative cabinet? I don't think that means what they think that means.
A big part of Brazil's economic woes, outside of the massive corruption, is the labor party and their really powerful unions.
White guys. Therefore, it's conservative.
Probably at least 50% of Brazilians are white. Yeah, I know, liberals don't like that, demographics are nothing but the evil sorceries of the patriarchy.
It's less than that if you're counting "pure white", but in the high forties none-the-less. It's much higher if you are counting mixed-race, part-white people.
A lot of these guys... don't really look all that white. I'd wager at the very least the guy in the picture to the right of the guy signing the paper is Cabolco.
the end of his tenure is in sight and president "I won" gives lip service to the concept of listening to the others. Give me a break. Not a single action to back up the words which just makes them as vacuous as anything else he says.
I love it! It feelz so good! Four more years! Four more years! Four more.....
Do you think Obama and his ilk finally grasps the fact that the current breed of hypersensitive progressive activists threatens the progressive base far more than they do anyone else?
Which bathrooms in the White House do the transgendered workers use?
I'm guessing not the same one Obama uses.
Are there even any transgendered White House employees?!?!?
Does First Lady count as an employee?
I have just been harassed by JB's hate speech!
You should issue a fatwa.
Anti-Wookie hate speech!
Did you see the Wookie/Ivana cartoon all the progressives are getting the vapors over?
Link?
I found this cartoon on google but not wookie related.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....Trump.html
Isn't everything?
Only when done by CIS hetero shitlords like you.
I suspect a trans person would not receive security clearance to work in the WH. Because, despite the White House's official position, most people realize that wanting to chop of your testicles and have your penis altered into an "innie" instead of an "outtie" is a sign of mental illness.
Does the Oval Office have a WC?
No, the president just steps outside and waters the roses.
All employees regardless of gender are encouraged to drop trou in the Rotunda and shit on the Constitution.
It's the new employee purity test....
I don;t know. Has anyone asked Michelle which one heshe prefers?
no, as that would require reflection and introspection. The left does not do that. Ever. For eight years, this fucker has ignored every sound in the room outside the one of his own voice. He doesn't even notice the petard that he and his are being hoisted upon, and it doesn't much help that despite the ample evidence to the contrary, a Reason writer wants to pretend this is a shift of some sort.
Yeah, they probably know somewhere deep down that the monster they have created is out of control and hellbent on destruction. But I think it's too late to stop it. The progs are going to get a really nasty name again and they're going to have to drop the term progressive as well as liberal. I wonder what their new name will be this time?
Prolly not "libertarian."
Yeah, talk about not passing the purity test. I think you at least have to get 1% on the purity test. I mean not everyone can get 94% like Shreek, but come on.
Naw, "liberterarians" are always a useful boogeyman for statists.
When the feminists have to women the barricades against the m2f transwomen invading their safe spaces, it will all be because of libertarians
On the plus side, if you judge success by your enemies, libertarians can make Crom proud.
Too bad Trump conveniently distracts from this fact. Much easier to scapegoat him than actually bring under control the progressive base and its increasingly incoherent mass of gibberish.
I want the morons on the left to keep pushing until enough non-progtards have had enough and are willing to really go after them and put an end to the progressive movement in the US for the foreseeable future. McCarthy had it right back in the 40's. We need a return to that.
"McCarthy had it right back in the 40's."
I choose to believe that, given the context of the article, this is very clever satire.
After the dissolution of the USSR and declassification of the Venona Project (much of which has yet to be decrypted), it's known that the communist infestation of the USA government was even worse than Joe P. McCarthy had any inkling of.
That public knowledge is why the leftist/hollywood lies about McCarthy have had so little traction in the 21st century. The George Clooney hit-piece "Goodnight and Good Luck" was a box office flop. For all this time, the entertainment industry has constantly lied that McCarthy was after actors, writers, directors etc. From what I've read, he didn't give a shit about commies in the movies, he wanted the ones in the government rooted out and had nothing at all to do with HUAC since he was a Senator.
The public is simply sick and tired of the decades long smear campaign against a man who stood up to corruption and infiltration of our government by an enemy nation.
"The speech provides yet more evidence that Obama is a genuine proponent of free speech on campus, although his administration's policies have not always reflected this stated commitment."
Actions speak louder than words. His peeps have created much of this nonsense and he could have shut it down with a phone call 7 years ago. Obama is a genuine hypocritical piece of excrement suitable only for lubricating mechanical devices, perhaps an implement designed to convert tree branches into manageable mulch.
All hail the mulch maker!
Or you could view this as classic Obama rhetoric. His consistent motif in speeches is "something for everyone".
He generally speaks in broad platitudes that cover both sides of an issue. e.g. "Now see here... Times are tough. In a family, if you are spending more than you make, you have to tighten your belt. And we need to tighten our belt. But at the same time, we have to prepare for future challenges. So we will increase our investments in the future, in our children, in training, education, in our infrastructure..."
So if you are inclined to be supportive, you'll find something you like.
In this case if you are listening on the right, you hear "finally, he called out the PC police on campus!" If you are listening on the left, you heard "Those right wing nuts are anti-science, anti-free speech and full of hate speech!"
He learned an unfortunate lesson from the research on people's powers of motivated reasoning, confirmation bias and other cognitive biases. He brilliantly gives everyone enough grist to hear what they want to hear.
I was talking with a lady at the park this weekend who is convinced that history will judge him as the greatest president ever. And Bush as the worst president ever. She was appalled at the suggestion that you couldn't get a slip of paper between them on most issues. When I pressed her on the unauthorized use of military force in places like Libya, she went full neocon. This is the motivated reasoning I speak of.
He's a unifier!!
*sigh*
He is so courageous, and so cool. I wish he could be my president forever.
He could be if not for wreckers and kulaks.
Damned obstructionist rethugkkklikkklans(men)!!!
As to your desire for him to rule in perpetuity, just you wait...
^this.
I blame the Uzbeks. They are the weak link in the great chain of socialism.
Additional to the examples of Obama admin free-speech hypocrisy listed in the linked piece by Fisher...
Obama signed HR 347 ...which lowered the bar allowing secret service personnel to break up protests/arrest people... and =
Sort of hard to "hold people's feet to the fire" if people can't be seen by either the target of their protest, or the press.
Also notable (but unmentioned) are the Obama admins attempts to limit political speech via the IRS or the FEC
The Secret Service already lowered the bar themselves when Obama became president.
Wait, this administration's foreign policy is different from its predecessor? Pfft.
also, didn't "Dear Colleague" foster a good deal of this current campus lunacy? Isn't that the reason HE appointed Catherine Lhamon to that exact position?
Sanctimonious POS.
Hans points out above that everything the OCR has done in the last 8 years was being done at Obama's behest/discretion. And they continue their efforts as we speak.
The "nice feeling" talk is worth nothing.
Robby says, "Obama is a genuine proponent of free speech on campus""... but based on what? Rhetoric. Actions speak louder.
I think we need to note that the campus progressive left is starting to eat it's own more than those who "lost" the cultural war. I think someone in Obama's team is shitting a brick in recognition of some unintended consequences.
I think the consequences are exactly what Obama wants, to kill off the first amendment along with the 2nd. He's just trying to reign in the useful idiots a little for now so as not to freak out too many potential Hillary voters and get the Donald elected. Obama's been trying on some black robes I guess. If that fails, I really do expect to see him reappear in Brussels.
I don't know about that.
If there's any 'unforeseen issues', its their inability to effectively manage the PR around their draconian approach on college campuses.
Which is why the Great Communicator v2.0 is out shilling, pretending he's always been about a 'Diversity of Viewpoints' and the Free Market of Ideas, while simultaneously imposing a stricter and stricter regulatory environment where almost ANYTHING can be conceived as a potential 'violation' of someone's feels.
The Dept of Ed. probably considers it a measure of their SUCCESS that they're now receiving "record numbers of civil rights complains"
Keep in mind that a strong majority of all people working on college campuses are on the progressive left, many to an extreme. These are the people and agendas being turned upside down by the administration's drive to define the new normal. It's leftist groups who are having their events cancelled because not enough neo-asian trans hippy cis wymen were interested.
Obama is one of those vocal proponents of free speech. Everybody is perfectly free to say they are in favor of free speech all they like. Acting like you actually have free speech rights is another matter. Kind of like the joke where the American tells the Russian "We have free speech in America - why, I can stand right in front of the White House and yell 'Obama's a son-of-a-bitch' and they won't do a thing to me." And the Russian guy says, "Yeah, we have free speech in Russia, too. I can stand right in front of the Kremlin and yell 'Obama's a son-of-a-bitch' and they won't do a thing to me, either."
I think we've found the problem here. They're not blocking these speakers out because they're afraid to challenge the speaker's ideas, they're blocking these speakers out because they're afraid to challenge their own ideas. Hold their feet to the fire, make them defend their positions, use your logic and reason? These kids can't challenge anybody's positions because they are can't defend their own - and theydon't want to learn how to, either. They're sticking their fingers in their ears and screaming "la la la la I can't hear you!" until the speaker goes away. And they're happy with that if that's how they win the argument.
"Cry-bullies" is what these kids are - they're not fragile and too easily offended, they just know that pitching a fit and claiming to be hurt gets Mommy to kiss their boo-boos and give them a cookie because Mommy's too damn pathetic to give them a kick in the ass and tell them to quit being such a damn whiny-ass pussy. Which is what they really needed when they were about four years old if you ever expect them to stop acting like four-year olds.
True, but we're one generation past any real parenting. These parents today were coddled by their own me first baby boomer parents. Parenting today does not involve "no" and "do the work". It is instead based on, " you are entitled to" and "let me do it for you."
Actually you have it backwards. Today's helicopter parents were ignored by their self-centered boomer parents, at least I was...remember ye old latch-key kids? The coddling is an attempt to give their spawn the attention they themselves never received.
Relevant (although NR generally sucks)
*stands...applauds*
IF ONLY STALIN KNEW!
"If you disagree with somebody, bring them in and ask them tough questions,"
Obama left out the "upload to youtube" part.
+1 Orange Express
I really have no idea why Captain Bathroom Nazi is saying this. Is he sincere? What are his motives? Who the hell knows, I don't trust him, he's a slimy slippery snake.
"I don't think it's a secret that I disagree with many of the foreign policies of Dr. Rice and the previous administration."
Could have fooled me, motherfucker.
Fuck, Obama is just having a little fun murder droning a few wedding parties and children's hospitals. It's not like he invaded a country or anything. The thing in Libya and Syria which drove people from their homes on desperate pilgrimages to Europe, that was for their own good, they were being threatened by climate change. Someone had to save them.
This, times ten.
Although I have enjoyed poking the left on this one.
I had a committed proggie chatting me up at the park this weekend while her precious little snowflakes played with my kids.
Turns out, she was a history major. Graduated after the turn of the century in "modern history"... so much of her studies were of things that happened in my lifetime. Long story short - our education system is sorely lacking.
On the motivated reasoning front, she was firmly in favor of Obama's adventures in Libya and elsewhere. When I brought up the comparison with Bush who at least sought authorization from congress, she firmly declared that the president only needs to go to congress to get a declaration of war. If he doesn't want to declare war and just wants to take military action, that is fine. She hadn't heard of the War Powers Act, but knew that Nixon was an evil warrior who did bad things.
It was actually a great conversation. She was bright and engaging and had spent her entire life inside the proggie bubble, such that even bizarre misunderstandings of fact went unchallenged. It was like getting to meet Truman Burbank from the Jim Carrey movie "Truman". Nothing in her life was connected to reality. Just to Huffington Post. And even that was filtered through her reality distortion field.
Obama is great on the First Amendment. The problem is his administration - e.g. Loretta Lynch, John Kerry, Susan Rice, James Comey. He is holding the line against them, if not well, then far better than Trump or Hillary will (Trump will completely eviscerate free speech and free belief, and Hillary just isn't smart enough to understand the importance of fighting for them). Oh how I wish we could keep him around for a little longer. Or perhaps we just have to learn the hard way why these rights are important. (Again.)
This is some seriously clumsy trolling.
Fuck off
You win!
don't those in "his administration" work for him? Hint: when you try to defend someone, don't make them look incompetent.
Of course, but Ron and Rand Paul have the same problem. They have staffers who undermine them. It's a universal problem with agency, but it's worse at the government level. He also holds the line against the warmongers and bomb droppers. Not ideal, but much better than Bush, and far better than Trump or Hillary would be. In fact I think it's his concerns about the future president that prompted these remarks.
Quick look over there. I need to hide my lies, and fuck ups.
"Obama is great on the First Amendment. The problem is his administration - e.g. Loretta Lynch, John Kerry, Susan Rice, James Comey. "
WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK APPOINTED THEM !!!!
Idiot.
He appointed these people. There is NO evidence he is holding the line.
Obama scolds college students on free speech, then secretly appoints Triggly Puff to the new office of Hate Speech Corrections, which gets it's very own swat team.
I don't ever want to see that coming through my door.
How large is your door? Oh, you meant the swat team.
I meant Triggly Puff. A SWAT team wouldn't be half as terrifying. She would have to go through the sliding glass door in the back. I should keep some candy bars at hand that I could toss to slow her down.
You *are* the Brute Squad!
Okay, credit where due.
That may be the first time I've agreed with him in 8 years.
It's not due.
This is worse than if he were honest.
This is some seriously clumsy trolling.
Fuck off
You win!
I like reciprocity. Beautiful.
Honest? Honest? He's a fucking politician, of course he's not honest.
But, in this particular instance, what he said was right. Give the man credit for doing something significantly better than he usually does.
Politicians equivocate but they're still sometimes capable of walking the walk.
I'll credit them when they DO the right thing, not say it and do the opposite.
And that's my point. I didn't claim they're honest, I said this is even worse than if the mask slipped.
He didn't DO anything. We know he can yabber.
Sure he did. He chastised his worshipers for being dickheads.
What would you suggest he "do", pass an executive order outlawing dickheadedness on college campuses?
Robby is right. Good words, horrible policies.
I'm not suggesting he do anything.
I'm suggesting that maybe he doesn't deserve praise for words that obfuscate his actions.
Anyway, I'm just frustrated by this stuff. I have no beef with you.
What would you suggest he "do", pass an executive order outlawing dickheadedness on college campuses?
He could rescind the "Dear Colleague" letters his own Department of Education issued that has empowered the cadres.
This isn't a case where his allies are being dickheads against his wishes. His administration is actively sponsoring their dickheadedness.
The only thing Obama has done "right" in 7.5 years of office is signing the bill legalizing horse slaughter.
Ok. I give him credit for speaking out against his own fucking awful policies. I mean the people pushing all this shit on colleges from the federal level are employed at Obamas own discretion.
If he wants to show his "concern" for free speech he can start by firing all his God Dammed lawyers at the DOJ.
No, I won't give the man credit. Claiming high minded regard for free speech while you're an active sponsor of the assault on free speech is just covering your keister. If Obama believed a word of what he said, all he'd have to do is pick up the phone and talk to his own Secretary of Education.
Good one, you bloviating horsefucker
Ugh.
He's made claims about believing in free markets too.
Shreeks says Obama is the most freest free market monster ever to free market monster.
8% agree.
At least shriek pays his bets. Right?
Well, he SAYS he is. Credit where credit is due!
Such a shame that he doesn't mean any of it.
Quasi Amusing
(these both appeared in my feed because of something else i'd watched, and i think the style-contrast is what's esp. hilarious)
- The New 2016 Acura NSX... reviewed in a really tacky 1990s-Style
- The Original 1990s Acura NSX... reviewed Modern-Day-Internet-Style
The former is worth watching for a few minutes just to get a grasp of how silly their production-style seems these days
The latter is worth watching in its entirety for the lols, and also to get a grip of how much more 'personal' modern media is.
I'm curious to compare auction/sale prices on 1st Gen NSXs vs last-Gen Turbo Supras. The Supra is going to win in the long run if it isn't ahead now.
There were only like 1500 last-gen Supras ever built. and i think a lot of those were wrecked or modded to shit.
There were like 5000 1st gen NSX's sold in the US 1993-2000
that could be wrong tho on the Supra. I don't know what you consider last-gen. I just saw that on a quick google of the last few years of production.
i personally think the supra is more popular as a driver/ modder platform, whereas the nsx is something for collector types.
Which makes the Supra more collectable. Plenty of NSX's went straight into climate-controlled garages and have seldom seen rain. Nice ones are easily had. A nice original LHD A80 Turbo Supra is exceedingly rare.
yes, my point was actually to agree with you about the 'prices' thing.
I don't think the NSXs will necessarily ever break higher than $100gs. Supras have always been expensive.
Its just that i don't know any car-collector types (I do know a few) that think of the Supra as an investment car or want to buy them. the people i know who are into them are Need 4 Speed/F&F types. The NSX is the only relatively high-production japanese car other than the (70s Datsun 240s) that seems to have much collector interest. Supras just aren't "Classy" in the way the NSX is seen.
"Use your logic and reason..."
If they did that then they wouldn't be sniveling progtards.
one of the memories i will take with me when obama leaves is when he was negotiating with congress, and he had pelosi and the democrats on speaker phone. he was lecturing them about something or other, and pelosi put him on mute so they could finish what they were doing, because they had heard it all before and he wasn't helping. these were his allies.
that's why, when i hear the his inability to deal with congress is all the republicans fault, i simply laugh. it's their fault too of course, but the president didn't know what he was doing either. they're all incompetent fools.
Just ignore him. Hell be gone soon.
Not soon enough. Although with what's coming next....
You kidding? He's never going to go away. He'll be making speeches like this for the next thirty years, and every single one will be in the news. After all, he's like the best president evar. He's black, he brought us health care (no one had health care before Obamacare), and he killed bin Laden with his bare hands. And did I mention that he's black?
Laureate of Peace
What is his skin color, I think I missed that?
OCR's latest missive seems to basically say that if anyone misstates a trans student's gender, they could be guilty of creating a hostile educational environment, and subject to the same kafka-trials as anyone who may have been involved in regret-rape.
It also basically says schools can never treat anyone based on their gender in any way whatsoever, which seems to me to just wave aside lots of practical issues with running a school.
Can you play boys vs girls kickball?
If you integrate can you still play shirts vs skins?
So confused.
the way these "Dear Colleage" letters make these kinds of sweeping pronouncements is exactly why (*some) Universities seem to over-react, i guess
(*nod to HM who always points out 'its not all nuttery all the time')
the above doc goes out of its way to make clear that there is absolutely nothing required other than a student's say-so in order to be recognized as their chosen gender.
you might as well just call everyone "Xim/Xer" now just to be safe
Well, there are those who claim sex and gender are not linked and that gender is a social construct.
I self-identify as an earl.
Can I sue if some ignorant civil servant disrespectfully refers to me in the third person as anything other than "his lordship"?
Ya, that's one of the areas I've been talking about. Title IX exists to provide safe spaces for women, now those exact spaces are being attacked. Guys don't care that someone with a vagina is in their shower room, women, not so much on the reverse. There's a progressive pileup brewing.
Gonna need a cite there.
Seems to me it's the "chivalrous" men who are standing for the defenseless women's virtue that have the problem. And fathers of daughters.
Google "man caught in women's locker room." Women are actually complaining.
One incident is hardly support for your claim.
And telling me to Google something is not a citation.
It is common, a simple search turns up many many incidents. Is there statistical data, no, so a single citation is impossible. Nobody has of yet conducted a study, and polls, as we know, are typically biased.
Are male reporters allowed in women's locker rooms for post-game interviews?
I ask because I don't watch women sports enough and never seen it.
Do a quick google search of Feminists vs. transgendered. There's been a lot of ink spilled on the subject.
A lot of feminists aren't huge fans of m2f transexuals. Transsexuals tend to latch onto the most obvious glamorous girly parts of becoming a woman, without the drawbacks of being a a woman. Most women don't wear sparkling dresses in their normal life, like drag queens tend to do.
Again, we need to work on our definition of citation.
'Just because you lop off your dick and then wear a dress doesn't make you a fucking woman.'
http://www.advocate.com/caitly.....lyn-jenner
This site's antispam filters make multiple citations difficult to pull off.
Like I recommended earlier, just google 'feminsts vs transgendered', and there's no shortage of articles on the subject.
Why do we care if the person has taken the steps to actually physically transition into becoming a woman? The argument is the transitional trans people who are physically still the gender of birth.
From a feminist perspective, the trans-woman argument is essentially, "Hey, I always knew I was a woman, because I always liked the color pink and like playing with my sister's Barbie dolls." That kind of contradicts the feminist argument that women shouldn't be bound by traditional gender norms. So if a woman wants to dress in traditionally manly clothes, and work in a traditionally masculine profession, then that doesn't make her any less of a woman.
Most M2F trans folks tend to define being a woman as looking like a fashion model, which is something that most feminists tend to reject.
Wut?
Wtf does that have to do with a man actually physically transitioning into a woman? Once that's happened there is no man in a women's room argument.
I think if Obama thought he could get away with shutting down Fox News and Rush Limbaugh that he would do it in a heart beat. I also doubt that he believes "hate" speech should be protected under the 1st.Amendment.
Obama complained about Citizen's United right in front of the Supremes.
Hell,If there's any speech that ought to be free, it's political speech. We shouldn't need to to deal with arcane financing laws in order to point out that that the emperor is naked. Obama thinks we all need to get press licenses in order to point out that the emperor is naked.
The problem here isn't so much his acceptance that people should debate. The problem is that he and the radical left honestly believe that they should squelch certain speech because it's wrong. He's just saying it shouldn't be prosecuted but, shouting it down is fine. This is not an acceptance that speech other than that with which you agree is not hate speech. Progressives like a uniform platform and to villify thoughts outside of that. Obama is in that camp, in speech and action.
Typical for Obumbles. Never take responsibility for anything.
It was his expanded interpretation of Title IX that empowered the fuckers. It is his doing, now he pretends to be on the high road.
Fuck. Him.
Good for him. I'll stand and applaud when he deserves it.
Now, call off the Title IX attack dogs and use some of that Federal funding muscle to rein in the administrative offices that are enabling and stoking the "microagressions" crowd. Else I'm sitting right back down mid-clap.
His hands are tied without Congress
Something something pen and phone. Of course he's perfectly willing to circumvent congress where his hobby horses are concerned. He's never viewed Congress as an obstacle to shit he cares about, it's only been an ostensible obstacle of convenience to paper over all the times he's shit the bed.
"But the notion that this community or the country would be better served by not hearing from a former secretary of state or shutting out what she had to say, I believe that is misguided."
Like I've said, I think senior class reps should choose the graduation speaker, finding someone important enough to reflect well on the students, but not someone the students don't like, even if it's someone they *ought* to like.
There's no right to be invited to give a commencement address. This is a total distraction.
The problem with the dis-invitations is that I'm not sure the activists actually represent the senior class.
But anyone who speaks at commencement has the university's implied imprimatur. In a sense its a form of institutional speech contracted out to an outside speaker.
Let's not confuse commencement speaker controversies with arresting students for passing out Constitutions, or Trigglypuff censoring discussions she finds offensive, etc.
Hell, I doubt I ever met anybody involved in student government in my time in college. Or even met anybody who even knew anybody who knew anybody in student government back in student government. Back when I was in college, the student government types were just wannabe government types padding their CVs. Their decress had the full force of a wet fart.
Which is how it should be. Why would anybody recommend giving those idiots more power?
I take the opposite tack. I don't see why the students have any say in the selection of commencement speakers. They're students. Presumably they've been at the college to learn. The selection of the speaker should ostensibly be seen as part of the curriculum - a final life lesson for those graduating.
Given what we know of the Obama administrations violations of the First Amendment - including but not limited to college campuses - then I think it's possible to have a sinister reading of the following:
"If you disagree with somebody, bring them in and ask them tough questions." "Hold their feet to the fire, make them defend their positions.
Really? "Bring them in?" "take somebody on"? "Go after them"? Are these the words of someone who is comfortable with dissent? Someone who actually thinks that the debating process will bring you "a new understanding"? Given Obama's record, are you going to give him the benefit of the doubt?
I think this provides some context to "us[ing] your logic and reason and words." In the campus context, this means using your logic and reason and words to "take on" and "go after" the evil racist outsiders by, at best, protesting their speech, or maybe heckling them, or holding up your big "SAY NO TO RACISTS" signs.
Where in all this talk of going after people and taking them on or bringing them in, in the standard argument for academic freedom - that people who are after all, technically, students, may have something to learn from a speaker, so before they decide "I DISAGREE AND I'M TAKING YOU ON!" they should actually listen to what the person has to say?
Even when Obama is trying to soothe the Soaves of the world by claiming to be for free speech, he can't seem to conceal his contempt for opposing views - such views are not ideas to be debated, but dangers to be confronted by taking on and going after the speaker. Or "bringing them in," which coincidentally how arrests are described on TV shows?
*is* how arrests are described
My takeaway? Obama doesn't believe in debate as we understand it, he believes his followers need to be on the alert for bad think and "take it on," and hopefully they'll be so busy chanting "hey hey ho ho transphobia [or whatever] has got to go" that they'll stay in their bubble of systemic closure and not dirty their minds with the idea of someone on the "other side" having valid views.
So you're saying when he says "hold their feet to the fire" ....
(And I had to check back on the exact quote about paying attention to a former secretary of state - if I were just a tad more cynical I might point out that just because he mentioned Condi Rice in the previous sentence doesn't mean that's the former secretary of state he was talking about in that quote. There is another former secretary of state that's been getting a lot of attention lately.)
This coming from a man who's supporters, and propaganda machine would accuse you of racism for merely disagreeing with his economic policies.
Sorry comrade Obama. Too little, too late.
Blah, blah, blah. Obama can talk to the hand.
I'll believe he actually gives a shit and isn't politicizing this when he rips up the despicable "Dear Colleague" letter that HIS administration sent to the colleges. HIS administration started this shit.
Obama's speech her is like his speeches always are. When his lips are moving, he's lying.
You first Mr. President.
Fucking Christ on a pogo stick.
This from a man that was elected, for the color of his skin, and never was asked any Hard Questions.
Obama is frightened for the Constitution, and rightly so. Both Trump and Hillary will eviscerate the First Amendment. Trump will do so explicitly ('shut down parts of the internet', 'ban muslims', and 'expand our libel laws'). Hillary will be coerced by her neocon underlings. So he is trying to pre-emptively protect our rights as much as possible by explaining that not only must we tolerate opposing viewpoints and religions, but these freedoms are what made the country great in the first place. In fact, he has held the line fairly well against the constant pressure by his underlings. As Massie explained, "Staff is policy in Congress. This is one of the ways they get you when you go into Congress. They get you to hire bad staff, or staff that's working against you or doesn't share your ideals." This is a universal problem and the 'Chief Executive' must always push back against it. Which is why it's so important to elect the right one. The same dynamic holds true for the warmongers. It's inevitable that the guy you hire to drop bombs on people will want to, and the guy you hire to jail people will try to do exactly that. Obama is a good guy despite a few foibles. If only he could hang around a little longer until the "Libertarian Moment" happens.
F+
From a guy who dropped bombs for a living, you have no fucking idea what you're talking about.
Oh yeah and if you point it out they will call you an idiot. And if you point that out they call you:
" you:"

It must be real embarrassing being Obama's daughter.
It's Tulpa. Its entire argument is disingenuous. It mearly wants to start shit for the sake of starting shit.

I'm just wondering why it is not feeding me !!!!! =D

Naw. Tulpa is an asshole. This guy is a moron.
Big difference.
And if you point out they will call you a 'moron' when you point out they will call you an 'idiot' for pointing out they will attack free speech to justify their bomb dropping and then deny it, they call you:
Tulpa (Tibetan: ???????, Wylie: sprul-pa; Sanskrit: ??????? nirmita and ??????? nirm??a; "to build" or "to construct") also translated as "magical emanation", "conjured thing" and "phantom" is a concept in mysticism of a being or object which is created through sheer spiritual or mental discipline alone.
Al-Masih ad-Dajjal (Arabic: ?????? ???????? Al-Mas?? ad-Dajj?l, "the false messiah", or "the deceiver") is an evil figure in Islamic eschatology
Hmm...
=D
"Hold their feet to the fire, make them defend their positions."
With all due respect, that seems worse than waterboarding them to get information.
Here is a danger liberal's perspective on the modern campus: http://thesmartset.com/free-sp.....rn-campus/

The guys who drop bombs for a living try to undermine free speech because they know that restrictions will cause violence in faraway countries. That way they don't have to take direct responsibility for reluctantly having to do their job.
F-
Come back tomorrow Obama's daughter with the proper amount of plant food. =D
People think the value of free speech and freedom of religion is so that we are free to tell the 'truth'. In fact, the purpose is to remove an excuse for violence (the truth will out - inevitably). The founding fathers understood this. Obama doesn't, but then again neither do most. That's ok, and for the same reason.
Cool story bro.
The PC movement has taken over campuses like Rutgers. I should know since my son is as he claims to be one of the chief organizers that got Rice to withdraw from presenting her commencement address that Obama refers to. Basically, he and others have learned that you can shout down, bully and force people to shut up or otherwise bend to your will. Just take it up a notch with extreme demonstrations and you will win. Don't try to talk reason to these people. This is not a recipe for success post college either.
You didn't beat him enough as a child. 😉
OT Why does every person I meet from the west coast, tell me that they are from "The West Coast" like I am supposed to be impressed by it ?
I am an east coast kid.
I don't give a fuck.
Why should I be impressed that you are from the "West Coast: ?
You''re meeting the wrong people. I can't recall ever telling someone where I live without being asked.
The only people I've met who give a shit about where they're from are Californians, Texans, Massholes, and New Yorkers. Everybody else just laughs at them behind their back for tying up so much of their self-worth in which shithole they happened to be born in.

Coming from the administration that plugs its ears and cries "anti-Semitism" in response to any criticism of Israel.
There are plenty of people in this country who are oversensitive (right-wingers are practically having coronaries over trans women using the women's bathrooms). College students aren't among them.

Someone explain to me why Obama should be praised for stating the obvious (which only points to the pathetic situation on campuses) when his policies and general rhetoric CONTRIBUTED to this mess giving power to this sort of behavior?
You can't force Title IX down and then turn around and wag your stupid fucking finger and say 'hey, that's not good!'
This makes him quite the disingenuous person, no?
Or did he really think - the great orator we're told - that this policy was not going to unleash such unintended consequences?
Spit it out. Obama is an activist. Not a statesman. He's just reacting to a mess he helped created. Nothing more; nothing less.
I'm making $86 an hour working from home. I was shocked when my neighbour told me she was averaging $95 but I see how it works now. I feel so much freedom now that I'm my own boss. This is what I do,

I agree, barry. In a perfect world, absolutely.
But the sad part is that for years the corporations, conservatives, right wing psychopaths, gun nuts, free maret Jyhady, progressive haters, rabid anti-feminists, insane anti-abortionists have threatened you weak spineless, easily intimidated Liberals in the crazy US. If you protest, some imbecile sheriff will manacle you in the hosing gallery. Cops torture people, and they torture leftists. Can't you appreciate after decades of institutional hostility (and in quite a few cases outright murder) that people just don't want to talk with the other side? What I can convince a generational confederate flag waving white trash loser he is wrong? How about convincing those bible thumpers christianity is a goddamn awful myth barely a notch better than islam? How about convincing pro-lifers that the right to choose over your own body is not negotiable, and a blastocyst isn't a human being, and souls are just imaginary? How about segueing with prepper scum that no, there transhumanism isn't a conspiracy run by the bilderbergers, or guns kill people or yes we did actually land on the moon. It is pointless Barry, and it's getting worse every year. Next year we are supposed to fucking argue when Trump brown shirt pillage through our communities?
You want us to stand up to that lunatic shit? You are out of your mind in that ivory tower of yours. Out of touch.
Must be terrifying to go through life surrounded by menacing imaginary straw men.

Oh, yeah.

Breaking News: The world the Community Organizer in Chief fought for is coming to pass. COiC unhappy about it.
Obama is full of shit. Talk, especially from Obama, is fucking cheap. His administration's and surrogates' actions have spoken far louder than any words he might now (after the fact) say. He has consistently tried to silence opponents of his policies. A few throwaway lines at a graduate speech don't undo all of that, you fucking sap.
Ignorance is not a virtue, but it seems to be the norm in our present USA: 55% of Americans hate Muslims. 42% of Americans believe in creationism wherein the world was created about 10,000 years ago. 38% believe there are intelligent ETs. 42% believe in ghosts.
Which is pretty much the same as in Europe.
Which is pretty much the same as in other predominantly Christian nations in Europe.
Which is unscientific... how?
Well, you yourself may be indicative of that observation; the statistics you quote are not.
Obama has encouraged the left to marginalize anyone who disagreed with him as racist. The left is doing it again painting everyone who disagrees with CLinton sexist. The democrats invented political correctness.

Obama is every bit as authoritarian as his successor will be.
As usual, Obama says the right things while actually doing the opposite.
