If you can recover damages in court, that fixes most things; but things that won't grow back seem to be a different situation. I was still typing the followup when you posted. Here's the thing: his statement comes off to me like racial paternalism. Which isn't not racist by any means, but may be motivated by less ugly thinking. With a lot of blacks, there's quite a bit of resentment along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so. I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.

To me it comes off more "white man's burden" than "today, tomorrow and forever".
