Wisconsin Primary, Bernie Sanders vs. Third World Poor People, Panama Papers Have Nothing to Do with Canals: P.M. Links

-
Dreamstime Bernie Sanders' policies would be disastrous for poor people in other countries, observes Vox (correctly, for once).
- Today, at approximately 3:00 P.M., I decided I finally had to learn what this Panama Papers business is about. And thus, so do you. Here. (Warning: Does not involve canals. Sad!)
- The Trump campaign is totally collapsing. Any day now, it's all over. Sure.
- Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant signed House Bill 1523, a religious freedom bill that critics say is anti-gay.
- The Wisconsin primary is happening now.

The Wisconsin primary is happening now.
It's happening!
I hope it's better than The Happening
Marky Mark was okay but the Funky Bunch really phoned it in.

Can't hold a candle to The Fappening.
You can hold YOUR candle to the Fappening, though.
We all have our kinks.
I am a bit partial to hot candle wax on the ole scrotum.
At least you didn't call it the "scrote-scrote"
Keyword: Ole.
Wasn't The Fappening one of the casualties of Chairman Pao's cultural cleansing?
Wasn't The Fappening a hack of a law enforcement backdoor?
Anthony Quinn was good in it.
Hello.
Panama. Pana-ma-ah!
Come on! Sing it!
Pahnamahna.
Do-do-de-do-do!
Panama. I can really only scream this three times before I look really silly.
I'll take Van Halen, checkered vans, and Charles in Charge, for $100.
Look at all these promoted comments Fist's made!
How dare you.
Do not insult the Flesh Apron of Etiquette, Clyde.
Sometimes I think "I really need to talk about politics with people other than on H&R". Then I talk about politics with other people and realize that it's not worth it.
I was at my SIL's and her and her husband wanted to talk politics. My tongue is still sore from biting it.
Oof, I need a shower after that masturbation euphemism.
I've had some surprisingly reasonable political conversations lately. But it helps a lot to stick to broad generalities. Freedom is something that a lot of people like to think that they believe in.
Freedom is something that a lot of people like to think that they believe in.
^This.
Freedom is something that a lot of people like to think that they believe in.
This included many so-called propertarians.
I can't keep up with who all the -Arians are
Neither could Germany.
Brucearians are the best. They almost won the Super Bowl!
it helps a lot to stick to broad generalities.
That's probably why your conversations seem surprisingly reasonable.
I think that's what I was deliberately implying.
I think you are correct!
I tried to keep it general. I said all forms of coercion are immoral. That's why I prefer things like HOAs, because you can choose to live by the rules or live somewhere without an HOA.
Counter: "I'm not free to buy this house without an HOA"
Me: *drinks coffee, starts browsing on phone*
I have a couple of friends who I used to have some awesome, no holds barred political arguments with. Which I think we both enjoyed at the time. But it does tend to get me a bit obsessed with convincing people of things, which is pointless. And also tended to horrify the people around us when things got a bit heated.
I have no patience left for progressives.
I have patience for anyone really willing to engage. But that becomes hard to find and not worth the grief.
Same here.
People can reasonably discuss any issue when there is merely a difference of opinion but, if the difference is in fundamental values, debate is pointless.
After many years I have come to realize that libertarians and progressives have a fundamental, irreconcilable difference in values. The same goes for conservatives.
Sometimes I agree with progressives on a particular issue/candidate (I dislike Trump/Cruz), sometimes I agree with conservatives on another (I dislike Clinton/Sanders.) However, the reasoning for my agreement obtains from a different set of values and is entirely different, so there's not even any point in discussing issues where we agree.
I agree.
It's values driven.
So what are your dislikes about Cruz ?
Flat tax.
Ethanol mandate and all others ended.
IRS closed down.
Did more for internet freedom than anyone especially to mom and pop's having the same internet access to do business as the monopoly desiring big pockets.
Strict Constitutionalist
The only politician in my lifetime who's pre election rhetoric matched his post election actions to a Tee.
Seriously, how can you hope to find a closer match to the Libertarian position ? I understand that if you are a Libertarian, true and blue, his position doesn't match yours letter for letter. He is however miles closer to what you want than any of the other candidates.
The voting b0oths are private so you could vote for him and reasonably hope to get some of what you want and just tell others you voted for GJ. There will never be a candidate elected who will enter office and on day one announce the Libertarian position is now the law of the land and the NAP is it's foundation.
However you can do as the Liberals and Proggies do and take the country step by step in the direction you want.
google Ted Cruz at the FTC and learn about his past actions.
Do you have any right patience for conservatives?
Conservatives are less retarded. Plus, they're not as parasitical masking their bull shit as 'compassion'.
Of course, if that question was directed at me.
My current GF and I got into it the other night about GMOs. Did you know that Monsanto is giving third world people cancer?
I started on about billions of people starving, and she actually said "I don't care." She doesn't care about peoples' health, or the first thing she'd want to cure is terminal starvation. No, it's more important to keep crops and animals "pure".
I don't think I'm gonna be able to keep seeing her.
That's fucked up. Her concern is hurting the evil kkkorporation Monsanto, not the wellbeing of flesh and blood people.

Thought you were recommending a site that would debunk this crap, but it's a dating site, LOL.
I know it's been debunked here, but how about a reputable site?
Had a friend on facebook the other day posting about how women shouldn't get mammograms because they cause breast cancer. Someone else posted research from the American Cancer Society about how the dose of radiation is so low in a mammogram that it's barely more than you get while sunbathing. Many people felt the need to chime in and say "yeah, well, the ACS profits from doing mammograms and treating people who get the breast cancer!"
These people all think essential oils will cure literally any illness they have.
News for her: crops ain't been pure in a LLLLLLOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGG time.
If tomatoes were pure, they'd be tiny and yellow.
If corn were pure, they'd be tiny with few kernels.
I told her that. Told her the story about corn's migration and how it got bigger and bigger.
Apparently, that's ok. But see, the way they do GMOs is completely different, and creates monsters. Literally monsters. Tomatoes with chipmunk genes, corn with mosquito genes, people with cloven hooves.
Now THAT'S a movie I'd pay to see!
/slams money down on table.

Colorful though it may be.

You probably don't want to knock this chic up as you contemplate the exit.
It sounds as though you would be miserable over the long term with this woman.
I have the same habit of getting obsessed about convincing. I try to approach any (public) argument on politics like I'm ignoring the person I'm actually discussing with, and instead trying to convince the crowd. I can't convince my progressive friends that banning all firearms is both immoral and impractical, but I can sure as hell come off as more convincing than them for anyone who hasn't thought about the issue on more than a surface level.
Luckily, it's really easy to goad progressives into childish ad hominem attacks that show they're losing the argument while maintaining the appearance of staying on the high road.
Waco was a gun control action.
The correct answer is:
For the right price, yes you can.
Freedom is something that a lot of people like to think that they believe in just another word for nothing left to lose.
+1 Kristofferson, with a decent cover by Gordon Lightfoot.

Ops, it was Janis Joplin
Yeah, it's not worth it.
My in-laws have in the past said some things in the past about how I've "converted" my wife into a libertarian (the implication being that this is a bad thing.)
Then Trump happened, and on a recent road trip we took with them suddenly they're agreeing with me on everything. (Personal, small scale, ultimately inconsequential) Libertarian Moment!
And I apparently have developed a stutter. My kingdom for an edit button...
Maybe you're just Howard Hughes.
Tell me about it. My dad doesn't believe Obama has an extra-judicial assassination list. That's just a plot that tin foil hat libertarians believe. Pointing him to articles in the fucking NYT was useless.
Can't convince a true believer.
Your Dad ?
Obama?
My heart goes out to you.
Bernie Sanders' policies would be disastrous for poor people in other countries, observes Vox (correctly, for once).
And in this one.
...I decided I finally had to learn what this Panama Papers business is about.
Hiding various governments' money from them?
The Trump campaign is totally collapsing.
This is be well past the point a non cult of personality campaign would have collapsed.
Sure, but it's about right for a giant middle finger puppet.
Without the cult of personality, Obama's campaign would have collapsed somewhere around February 2008.
Without the cult of personality white guilt, Obama's campaign would have collapsed somewhere around February 2008

But as it is, he even rode it to re-election and is still getting hagiographies about how massively successful, articulate, unscandalous, and dignified he is.
He proved how dignified he was just the other day when he was hamming it up for the cameras at the non nuclear proliferation summit.
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant signed House Bill 1523, a religious freedom bill that critics say is anti-gay.
Does it in any way have to do with slave labor for wedding cakes?
One you step foot on Gary Johnson's cake plantation you best set yo' mind to bakin', boy
"I feel funny, but I don't know why."
But do you feel tardy?
I don't feel late. Hey teacher, I dropped my pencil.

I think it's a first for me.
Nazi cake?
No cake for *you*!
Hitler hoagies
Gov. Phil Bryant signed into law a bill that critics say is the most sweeping anti-LGBT legislation in the U.S.
I don't know about that - here's the local wise man in the local wise man paper re: Georgia's attempt at gay bashing:
Take the provision that states that no faith leader can be required to conduct gay weddings. I have no problem with that goal; of course they shouldn't. But the truth is that even absent the bill, there is no mechanism by which religious clerics in Georgia could ever be forced to perform marriages against their faith. The odds of state or local government forcing such a thing are the same odds of a unicorn mating with a dragon and giving birth to a brontosaurus......
.......Under HB 757, "All individuals shall be free to attend or not attend, at their discretion, the solemnization of any marriage, performance of any rite, or administration of any sacrament in the exercise of their rights to free exercise of religion ?"
The guy has never heard of a lawsuit apparently.
Do we really need a law stating that you can't be forced to attend a gay wedding? Under what plausible circumstances could such compulsion occur in the first place?
Dammit - "the guy has never heard of a lawsuit apparently" is supposed to be at the end outside the ital tag.
Use blockquote you donkey. Think of the kids.
a religious freedom bill that critics say is anti-gay.
Freedom of speech is racist. Freedom of religion is homophobic.
Don't leave us in suspense, SIV. Freedom of assembly is ??
A lynch mob? A gang rape? Harassment and intimidation?
Discriminatory. You racist misogynist homophobes must never try to distance yourselves from the people you hate.
Freedom of assembly is super racist. If it weren't for plessy vs ferguson, those evil robber barons would have never sold a train ticket to a black man.

Clue to Hannibal's crossing route found
There's a ton of qualifier, but finding more evidence of the crossing would be really cool.

Woohoo! Some scientists dug up some dirt! I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE!
I love science. But actually doing science is boring as shit and involves a lot of dirt digging, or the equivalent.
And from that dirt they were able to infer an unbelievably detailed story about the traveler's customs and belief system.
Let me guess: Hannibal was gay?
In ancient times everyone was gay
They were able to unlock his TomTom.
ENOUGH WITH THE EUPHEMISMS!!!!11111!
Elephant Talk
I love the Punic Wars. There are those that claim Hannibal was the beginning of the end for the Republic, because it encouraged people to leave their farms and move to the cities. Thus, the citizen soldier/farmer was replaced by citizens getting their free bread and circuses, and a professional military.
In any case, the removal of Carthage as Rome's main competition in the Mediterranean led the way for Rome's rise as superpower.

Second, she was randomly selected because she was black. #BlackFlightAttendantsMatter!
How did that work? TSA is supposed to be about terrorists, not drugs.

So would.

A Transportation Security Administration employee told an FBI agent that Reynolds made a phone call and spoke in a foreign language.
Randomly?
It was a tip off.
They were waiting for her.
You know... I just want somebody to answer two questions for me without the answer being "because reasons".
1. Why should anybody be forced to provide service to anyone, for any reason?
2. Why do people want so badly to give money to people that hate them?
Also, a completely clueless quote from an ACLU rep:
Jim Crow?
The American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi also released a statement, expressing outrage that Mississippi is "the first state to codify discrimination."
That's pretty retarded. Sure the SPLC didn't utter it?
Because opening a business means agreeing to certain obligations, including serving customers that do not violate some reasonable requirement.
Bullshit.
Call me back when an attorney is forced to take on all comers.
Is this sarcasm?
Suppose the business is a sole-proprietorship of a prostitute? I guess the metaphors about the govt screwing you would be literal in that case.
That's the argument, and it's not obviously wrong at first glance. I don't think the distinction holds up - a tort is a tort, whether you are acting privately or commercially* - but then I'm a libertarian with kooky thoughts about authority and liberty. The conventional wisdom is that there are certain obligations you take on when you go to market and offer a good or service to the public.
* though I haven't put much thought into what this means for limited liability
So if my wife decides to run for Pope next time around the Catholic Church can't play the "not a woman" card or the "not a Catholic" card?
POPE'S NOT IN AMERICA, SMART GUY!
Hence the caveat "reasonable requirement." Also commercial business vs private club or organization. A woman's club is clearly intended to be for women, and a man does not have a reasonable expectation to join it. Ditto for a church, a veterans club, AA. A co-op store is only intended to sell to its members, a soup kitchen might only serve those who appear needy, etc. But if you open a business to the general public, unless there are particular exceptions, you must serve the general public without reasonable discrimination. No shirt or shoes = reasonable discrimination. Like other men or intend to use your cake for a gay wedding = unreasonable.
That's the thinking.
That's the thinking.
You presume too much.
Must I cater the wedding as well, which means I have to attend, if men kissing and getting married violated my fundamental religious beliefs ?
As soon as the Muslims are forced to comply I feel certain the Southern Baptists will fall in line.
Limited liability is a mess that shouldn't exist. The legal system that should just be a lot smarter about assigning blame for big organizations.
This breakdown into "public" or "commercial" behavior is the same game as "police action" and "extrajudicial killing" as far as I'm concerned. We already had enough words for those too. And it's practically Marxism too, with these stupid inventions of new economics-based states of existing. A market (and for that matter all of economics) is just an abstraction for bookkeeping exchanges of scarce goods.
The science behind these mentality differences is kind of interesting. Seems a lot like the conflict between pattern separation and pattern completion to me.
Jim Crow?
Not to mention affirmative action.
You mean affirmative Blacktion!
/American History X
I've been told that's a good movie. But I have so many movies on my list of things I should see that I never see any of them.
It's pretty good. Skip it if you don't like racially charged movies.
As recently as the 60's when basketball teams visited various cities, the black players, including Bill Russell, were not permitted to eat in the same restaurant with the others.
So this entire thing is Bill Russell's fault?
I giggled. Thanks!
"Why do people want so badly to give money to people that hate them?"
Because they can use the excuse of giving them money to compel people that hate them to work? Slavers gonna slave.
1. Why should anybody be forced to provide service to anyone, for any reason?
Because slavery ended after the civil war...
Ok that didn't come out right.
Because public accommodation.
2. Why do people want so badly to give money to people that hate them?
They don't. They're entirely entrepreneurial about their targets. They're 'test cases' which are designed to push public policy in a specific direction and punish bigots. Essentially, they have nothing left but the suffering of their enemies.
And the lamentations of their women?

It's Daesh and thay actualy go around cutting off people's heads if you call them that these days. They are not sane people.
Have they cut off John Kerry's head yet?
Sadly, they will not enact that labor for us.
They don't have any machetes big enough.
Yes, in the fashion of Genghis Khan.
I think Kerry spells it Jenjis Khan.
I meant the *Arabic* spelling! Argghhh!!
Did anyone else ever refer to them as ISIL?
For a few months after James Foley there were three variations that media outlets were using interchangeably. IS, ISIL and ISIS.
It depends on what the meaning of "IS" is.

LD, I responded to your Brazil post in the U.Va thread. You're going to have a blast there.
I saw. Yeah, I'm very excited. In the spirit of gringo selfishness, I'm hoping their recession worsens so my dollar will go even further. I'm budgeting for at least 6 caipirinhas a day.
They were generally running about $12-14R (so what, about $4 USD?). I think the place that had the Soju caipirinhas was closer to $20R. Still only about $6USD.
Perfect. Did you stay on the Brazil side at Iguazu Falls?
Yeah we stayed Brazil side. Argentina, I think, didn't announce that they were waiving the reciprocity fee until our last day in Iguazu. Plenty to see on the Brazil side though.
Yup, just read a few days ago that no visa is needed for 90 days or less. Might stroll over just to check it out. Cool
Cacha?a - when my brother was flying to-from Brazil at the time - cost something like $.25 a bottle. And that was the *good stuff*
I think its sad that you'd have to pay more than a dollar for a caipirinhas, and that for the labor
Meh, I don't mind paying a little extra if it means the dude hocking them goes home with $30 that day instead of $25, but I damn well won't be ridiculously overcharged because I'm some babaca americano. *slams fist on table*
If you have time, walk across the bridge to Ciudad del Este in Paraguay and spend a couple hours. It's a very unusual town.
"The World Has Too Many Workers"
Just take a wild guess what the 'solution' is.
"That is the argument made in a new paper released by the centrist Democratic think tank Third Way, which theorizes that the world economy is suffering from an oversupply of labor and too little demand for the goods and services those workers produce.
But the solution, they say, also is simple, though politically unpopular: roads and bridges, and a lot of them."
So they make a claim for which they have no real evidence and their solution is the exact same solution the Democratic Party has had for every economic problem in US history.
That's convenient.
"In an era of expanding trade, those new workers from emerging economies compete with Americans (and workers in other wealthy countries) for jobs and push down their wages. But the new workers often save a large amount of their earnings, Alpert argues, and thus do not spend enough on American goods and services to create a classically virtuous cycle of trade raising everyone's living standards."
Those stupid faggot poor people, saving their money like dumbasses when everyone knows the key to prosperity is infinite debt! Get on board, you stupid assholes!
Do they really think the problem is not enough roads and bridges? Or do they really think saddling the future with the maintenance costs of those useless roads and bridges equates to economic prosperity. The sheer volume of stupidity that dwells in the upper echelons of journalism and economics is not just amazing, it's terrifying. Sometimes I feel like I'm just punching at ocean waves to fend off an unstoppable tide of stupidity. God damn it, Irish.
Don't save. Be my guest. But don't be surprised at the implications that come with that decision. It's possibly the most irresponsible thing to tell people.
And when you go for a loan to start a business for that idea swell idea guess what the banks will ask (thanks to government regulation)?
In a sane world, those people would curl up in a ball and die like flies on the windowsill, rightfully eliminating them from the equation as a warning to others. But in the world we actually live in, the implications will be more looting, both institutionalized and the old fashioned variety.
That's... that's not the "classic" cycle of trade. You ignorant moron.
If only there were some sort of mechanism to harmonize the high level of supply and low level of demand. Some sort of elastic media that could rise or fall to accommodate the realities of the world.

Easy qualify credit cards for third world citizens is the answer.
Their acceptance would be mandated buy Government and therefore it's a foolproof idea.
Government would co sign all the cards and prosecute the banks who didn't go along with the plan.
It's a lot like the housing bubble but without all the downfalls associated with mandating everyone qualify for a home mortgage !
BRILLIANT !!!!

If I recall correctly, demand is infinite, prices raise because supply cannot meet demand.
So, these people are ignorant.
Is that the final 'solution'?
Everyday Feminism strikes again
This White Feminist Loved Her Dreadlocks ? Here's Why She Cut Them Off
For the first time, my peers had lots of questions and critiques about my choice to wear dreadlocks.
The responses other activists had to my hair ranged from mild irritation to downright anger.
People were constantly making comments under their breath when they passed me about "cultural appropriation" ? I had no idea what that meant.
Some friends eventually suggested some readings and resources that would help me understand.
I read them and learned more about the history and symbolism of dreadlocks in the US in context to black folk's resistance movements against white supremacy. I learned that black folks in the US with dreadlocks are not seen as "quirky" or "alternative," but as "dangerous" and "militant".
I learned to identify the ways that white colonist mentalities show up in our contemporary, everyday lives.
Stop making me want to punch every person I pass on the street.
You're a fucking hippy. Cut off the dreadlocks, take a shower and get a job is what I wish I would yell at every white kid with dreads. Technically that also applies to black people, but there's no way to say that without sounding racist.
I don't think dreads on black people are even remotely a hippy-specific thing.
Oh yeah, I'm not remotely scared of black people with dreads. The same principle still applies, get a haircut, a shower, and a job. I do occasionally object to children on my lawn.
black folks in the US with dreadlocks are not seen as "quirky" or "alternative," but as "dangerous" and "militant".
Ah, HA!
I never saw Al Harris as dangerous.
ZIGGY MARLEY IS COMING FOR YOU!
That line of argument has to be the most baseless "cultural appropriation" argument I have ever come across. I have never met a single person (white or otherwise) who thinks dreads are acceptable on white people, but not on black people. The people who think black people with dreads are "dangerous" or "militant" are not the same people who think white people with dreads are "quirky" or "alternative." People who think dreads look bad on white people but ok/good on black people (which includes myself) have to outnumber people who think the opposite by an absurd ratio.
Yes, the same basic principles still apply to both black and white people with dreads, you are not militant, you're just some dude who likes smoking weed. I get that, but still, cut off the dreads, put down the bong , take a shower and get a job.
I really don't think that's true. Yeah, you do see the occasional "Rasta weed-smoking black guy" with dreads, but they're a pretty normal, natural hairstyle for black people. Almost every white person I've ever seen with them has been a hippy stereotype.
As long as black people no longer straighten their hair or black women wear wigs I fine with this idea.
As long as black people no longer straighten their hair or black women wear wigs I fine with this idea.
Not really.
Are you talking to yourself?
As mentioned many times here, I used to work a lot with homeless youth, most of them black (sorry Irish). Whenever the black girls saw a white person with dreads, they didn't scream cultural appropriation! Instead, the pointed at them and laughed their asses off.
Yeah there are basically two two types of white people with dreads, hippies and wiggers. Both of whom deserve all the mockery they get.
It must be exhausting being her.
I read them and learned more about the history and symbolism of dreadlocks in the US in context to black folk's resistance movements against white supremacy. I learned that black folks in the US with dreadlocks are not seen as "quirky" or "alternative," but as "dangerous" and "militant".
So 'white girl with dreadlocks' doesn't directly correlate with the 'poor Caribbean Islander who braids hair for money' kind of oppression anymore?

how unfortunate...and sticky
I am having a margarita made in my mouth!
Definitely too much information.
The Trump campaign is totally collapsing. Any day now, it's all over. Sure.
Paul Ryan reluctantly accepts the nomination after a brokered convention in order to save us all.
That Vox article almost reads like it was written by a neoliberal. It's astonishing. Perhaps there is hope?
From the article:
"[Sander's policies are] economic nationalism from the left,," Drezner says
Holy shit. Did they just call Sanders a nationalist socialist???
They aren't very bright; they haven't really thought things through. I suspect some part of them knows that if they do start thinking things through, it will lead to a bad place.
He sho is. Which is my starting point when I get into it with any Hispanic supporter of Sanders. "Uh, you know he thinks your people down south should remain poor in the name of the American nation-state, right?" Much sputtering ensues.
Thank you! I guess it's too obvious for Reason to note that, but it pisses me off when they claim only Trump for being anti-latino.
#OpenBorders
The only way. I'm talking to all the faux-libertarian Canadians crying about immigration.
I mean...Sanders is on record as being anti-NAFTA, so yeah.
To be fair, there are differences between their positions.
Sanders's position is mostly based in labor, and his policies, including his policies on immigration, flow from that. So sure, he's for a path towards citizenship, but he's also for increased border security (just not the cartoonish wall Trump proposes) and reworking trade deals that encourage shifting American jobs abroad. I'm not a Sanders supporter, so I'm sure there's nuance I'm missing, but broadly he's for worker rights and prioritizes American workers (including illegal immigrants into America) over others.
Trumps position is... well honestly, I don't trust myself to give Trump's position a fair reading. He's been more consistent on immigration then he has on other issues, but I don't feel I have a good feel for the underlying coherent philosophy that unifies his "policies".
When you give power to american worker unions, you give power to white supremacy.
Is Trump doing the same? Yes, this is why I can't support him, either. However, Sanders is obviously hinting that he's going to lie for the sake of keeping his whites strong. His philosophy isn't viable if he were to just allow illegal immigrants rights of a US citizen. He's a closet racist.
Trump likely wants to just rob us and leave it at that. That's not bad in my book, because his genes are going to be punished in the future for being another intolerant politician. That's my perspective on this election, I'm sure people here think I'm overboard.
I'm pretty sure that Sanders favors the workers over the fat-cat 1% capitalists as well.
That would would make him the national socialist workers' candidate.
LOL

Yep. If you outsource your commenting to a third party, you can't throw the worthless garbage out the door.

The sheer amount of projection engaged in by that fellow is hilarious.
It's a compliment.
I once asked someone who talked like that what fault he found with the logic. He kept moving tbe goalpost and appealing to his own emotions.
How dare Mary use Seinfeld for her shenanigans. Unacceptable!

Great band name
Spot on! And a great compliment, given the source.
Projection is a terrible thing, Mary
And here I thought we were assholes.
The funny part is someone spent money for that. Meanwhile the rest of us get to troll Reason commenters for free. Whee!!!
I mean how liberatarian is it to charge people to make fun of us?

Well, shit, with a reputation like that, we might as well vote for one of the major political candidates!
I mean, if you're in a impotent cynical sarcastic nihilistic misanthropic echo chamber, might as well pack it with corrupt statists, bigoted cronies, and populist socialists, amiright?

sorry for being THAT guy, but as Doyers mentioned upthread, I am a buzzkiller
They should organize a bake off in protest. Hash cookies FTW.
The protestors should bake wedding cakes for gays in front of the White House and watch the DC lawmakers' heads explode.

Important news!
Ashley Graham is hot
It is like we share a mind, SIV.
This on wheels.
Didn't she say she was just that a few months ago?
So is she indirectly fat-shaming by directly saying she's offended for being called fat? *scratches chin pensively*
She just doesn't like labels, especially labels which call her fat.
I thought the label said size 16.
Yeah, they're not exactly fat, those ladies are fun sized. I totally would, except for Adele, she would probably write some maudlin song about the break up.
Adele is horrible. Horrible. That song "Hello from the other side" makes me want to pound nails into my ears.
That is unfair since both Adele and Ashley Graham are more attractive than Amy Schumer.
Meh, Amy Schumer isn't bad looking, she's just Hollywood homely. Give me 10 minutes alone with her and I could disappoint her in ways she never thought were possible.

Look, when are people gonna move past this obsession with weight and move on to real fact-based metrics of attractiveness like BMI and projected lifespan?
Only when everyone fucks with the rigidity, mechanical precision, and centennial durability of a bench vice will we finally be freed from the relentless and merciless oppression of the morbidly obese.

I've noticed a lot of "satirical" left-wing websites where their "satire" seems to consist entirely of taking some random right-wing political figure and claiming they said something insane about black people that they'd never actually say.
See also: Website claiming Jim Porter of the NRA said it's 'only a matter of time before we can own colored people again.'
I don't understand how this is satire when it has no bearing on reality and is just unfunny leftist idiots hurling slurs at their opponents.

Campaign manager: Sanders can win nomination at contested convention
Pure delusion. He needs to win outright because the party machine would be behind Hillary.
Doesn't the Clinton Machine have to allow the convention to be contested first?
I hope the Sanders campaign forces the Clinton machine to stop them so that that party can implode.
IMO, this is the most libertarian aspect of Bernie Sander's campaign. Once it has lost, some people will either abandon socialism, the two-party system, or both.
At the very least there will be fewer people who reflexively vote Democrat.
I haven't seen this anywhere else but Bernie Sanders talked to the NY Daily News Editorial board. It is ... interesting.
Bae?
I'm still trying to figure out how offering consumers products and services at a competitive price is "immoral"
Or why it's not immoral for the worker to force the employer to pay a much higher wage, even if the employer can't afford it and has to close up shop. Apparently that's not immoral or uncaring.
For the same reason that a two year old says it's "unfair" when they lose at candy land. They have no idea what the word means but they know it inspires sympathy so they redefine it to manipulate people into giving them what they want
SUPER bae!
(but seriously, fuck you, Bernie; don't be concerned about me you pestering shitbag)
He is crazier than Trump.
I have said, and I have always said, you can look it up, it's true: I have always said that Bernie is more authoritarian. And people have said this about me. They say I've always been saying it, from day one. He is scarier and crazier than Trump. All he cares about - he talks about caring, and all he really cares about is what you're doing, and how it's different from what he cares about. Scary!
That linked interview is pretty scary.
"You've got to be concerned about my wife."
Cuckoldarians?
That's same Bernie Sanders who was the subject of this 1981 New York Times article:
For the kickoff of the 40th annual Chittenden County United Way fund-raising drive in Burlington, Vt., the sponsors considered themselves fortunate to have as guests Mayor Bernard Sanders of Burlington and Gov. Richard Snelling of Vermont. . .
"I don't believe in charities," said Mayor Sanders, bringing a shocked silence to a packed hotel banquet room. The Mayor, who is a Socialist, went on to question the "fundamental concepts on which charities are based" and contended that government, rather than charity organizations, should take over responsibility for social programs.
Wow. So he should be given all the money?
New York's top court: Parents can legally eavesdrop on kids
You don't say.
!*()@#&!*@*(!@!@
don't kids have no expectation of privacy at home? that's like being mad your mom saw your internet history....
which never happened to me as a kid.... ............. .............................
We didn't have the interwebs when I was a kid. We had a VCR that had little knobs to fine tune the channels, and, if you were willing to spend the time constantly fiddling with the fine tuner, you could catch glimpses of the unscrambled Play Boy Channel.
Plus, magazines.
Like most legal doctrines there's an up and a downside:
Upside: If a parent is verbally abusive on the phone towards his or her kids, it would be great to play a tape in court instead of having to hope a judge decides one's testimony is credible.
Downside: The more the kids get sucked into participating in the custody arguments in a high-conflict divorce, the more shitty their lives are.
I'm not sure that the upside outweighs the downside.
If the parents are paying for that phone, then hell yeah they've got a right to eavesdrop.

Interesting: For the first time this primary season, Trump has no press event scheduled after results come in. Perhaps he sees the writing on the wall?
I still sort of think that he is hoping for it all to fall apart so that he doesn't actually have to worry about enduring the hassle of actually being president.
Dits. I can't believe he actually wants to be president. Not for four whole years.
Yeah, I'm in the camp that thinks Trump was in it for a publicity stunt and is kind of shocked that his campaign lasted as long as did. And now his ego won't just let him quit. I mean you get that close to having your finger on the button, you can't say jk lol.

OK... but what if you believe that government is ineffective and unimportant?
And what is it these idiots have with trickle-down economics? I wonder when the left will get the fuck over Reagan and the 80s. By 2030? 2050?
I wonder when they'll admit that Reagan inherited an atrocious economy and kick-started a 20 year period of solid economic growth.
What? The economies of the US and UK were great before Reagan and Thatcher dismantled the socialistic policies of the post-war consensus. We know that because Reagan and Thatcher were so bad for the economy.
Economic growth is bad because it means some people get rich. It's not fair. Better to have shared poverty than unequal riches.
Its their bullshit-handwaving expression that covers EVERYTHING except progonomics (*More Taxes More Rules More Free Shit!)
Its their rebuttal to any suggestion that lower taxes help Everyone.
"No" they insist, "lowering taxes only helps rich people, and rich people only hoard and steal". They see rich people being "up" and regular people being "down", therefore when rich people have money? It aint tricklin' down.
The idea that lower tax rates increases the circulation of money and stimulates economic activity overall? they never show any sign that they even remotely understand it. They were told that "Reagan Disproves Trickle Down!!" and that's that.
They don't understand the difference between money and wealth. They don't understand that rich people don't have a ton of money, rather they have wealth. They have spent their money on things like toys and investments. Those toys created jobs because someone has to make them, and those investments create jobs because that's what capital does. But they don't understand, or care for that matter. They have an emotional reaction to inequality, and from that point on the rational part of their brain ceases to function.
This guy is a hardcore Bernie supporter and supporter of "social democracies" in general. I really find that I disagree with just about everything he says.
I make it a rule to not get into political arguments on facebook but man does he test my patients sometimes.
He should stay out of your waiting room.
Or you should pay him fifteen dollars per hour.
Henry Ford's greed did more to improve the lives of the average person than every penny spent on charity in the history of the human species.
And Sam Walton's greed has done more to improve the lives of the poor in this country than every Federal welfare program...
But, but, but... His family is rich! That's not fair! They're rich!
Um, yeah. Government organizes society. Sure. And trickle down economics, as in allowing people to keep their own money, is bad because it allows people to keep their own money. This guy really needs to be mugged, complete with a good pistol-whipping.
The idiot doesn't understand economics, or history, or even the opinions of his beloved comrade. Bernie Sanders. First, none of the supply-side economists ever referred to their program as "trickle-down economics". It was a disparaging term used only by its opponents. Second, he doesn't understand the theory of trickle-down economics as he calls it. It in no way depends upon the charitable inclinations of its initial beneficiaries. The knucklehead seems to suggest he thinks charity is a good thing. That is not the way Bernie Sanders thinks of charity. According to the NYT:
"I don't believe in charities," said Mayor Sanders, bringing a shocked silence to a packed hotel banquet room. The Mayor, who is a Socialist, went on to question the "fundamental concepts on which charities are based" and contended that government, rather than charity organizations, should take over responsibility for social programs.

http://news.nationalpost.com/f.....o-disaster
If he's the nominee, he'll not only lose but possibly lock up the Millenial and Hispanic vote for the Dems. For a long time. He's the best thing that's ever happened to the DNC.
At first I thought he was doing it as a joke to get his buddy Hill into the White House, but now I think he's gotten drunk off the power he has over his followers and actually wants to win. But I doubt he will. More people will vote against him than against his buddy Hill. That's what will decide this election. Not the person people vote for, but the person they vote against.
You nailed it. You say it's a joke, and that's entirely possible, but I wonder how much a conversation or two with Bill motivated him? "You know, Hillary could use a lift. How about ruining the GOP? It's a long shot but we could all use a laugh."
Voting against Trump will be like the Millenial's Great Thing We All Did Together. When we're waiting in the unemployment line or in Hillary's 'social transformation camps', conversation will drift back to that time we all came together to put America's trailer trash in its proper place. At least we'll have that.
We? Are you thinking that the US will annex Canada?
We = millenials. Canadian Millenials will vote 'in spirit'.
More likely Hillary will need to re-institute the draft for cannon fodder in the Eurasian conflict.
Well, we have always been at war with Eurasia, so we need the draft.

Turkey would side with Azerbaijan and Russia with Armenia. Iran and Azerbaijan are hostile. I don't think Russia can afford more conflict, but Putin isn't a very smart guy.
Really? He seems to be playing The Great Game better than any U.S. President since Reagan.
Russia has more power than it has since the bad old days of the USSR, Putin managed to circumvent the Russian constitution's term limits, seems to have accomplished his goals in Syria, didn't invade Iraq or Afghanistan, and, he got the warm water port he wanted from Ukraine.
Yeah, he's an idiot.
His country's economy is in the toilet, taking Crimea was totally unnecessary, his project in Eastern Ukraine is a mess with no prospects, he's pushed Ukraine and Turkey together. Syria is at best a partial success. I can't emphasize enough what a mess the Russian economy is.
He has managed to get his warm water port institutionalized while oil is at $30 a barrel and keep his job.

I don't have a link, but Saskatchewan's *nominally* center-right government got re-elected in another landslide, crushing the NDP. Premier Wall is a rank leftist in most policy, but he is allowing private sector intrusion into healthcare which as far as I am concerned makes into New Jesus. Manitoba's NDP government will be crushed in a couple weeks. Canada is said to be going through a left-tilt, but the NDP sure isn't benefiting. AFAIK, soon the NDP will only control....Alberta. They will almost certainly get the heave-ho next election.
No one in America cares about Canadian politics.
But they should.
Why? It has absolutely no effect on our lives.
Yes it does. Having a place you can flee to is always good, as is a place to get oil from. US corporations keep moving here for one thing (as well as other places).
Why would I want to flee to someplace where half my income is taken in taxes, and a gallon of milk costs ten bucks?
Not to mention the climate. Here in Maine it is bad enough. No fucking way do I want to live anywhere north of here.
Vancouver/Victoria may be more to your liking.
The taxation issue is far more interesting than you claim. Top rates are similar in Canada and America IIRC correctly they just kick in sooner here. Also, no inheritance tax in Canada. Lower capital gains and corporate taxation. You got me on the shitty, over-priced milk, but Muufri might take care of that in 5 years or so. No 'internal checkpoints' AFAIK (D&D ones aside).
Imma get a Cato article if I can find it.

On a bicycle?!?! You are a mad man after all, and now I want a wall on that border! Impervious to bicycles!
On a bicycle?!?!
Yep. After getting hit by a car that ran a red light that was being driven by a 15yr old kid with a car full of buddies and a learner's permit. But the kid's dad showed up and made a big scene about who was going to fix the car. The nice officer did him a favor and charged me with DUI (I blew a 0.08 when 0.10 was the DUI threshold, but that didn't matter) and wrote a report that said I caused the accident. That was after dismissing several irate witnesses. Such a nice officer, looking out for that poor kid and his dad. A hero if you ask me.
Well fuck.
Well fuck.
Yeah, and people wonder why I hate cops.
The second one I got fair and square in a car. Haven't driven with so much as a beer under my belt since.
That's bad, but consider chocolate. I've heard it adsorbs to the EtOH or something. Sort of like activated Carbon.
Did the bicycle DUI involve the cop being a shitbag and taking the driver who hit you's side over yours?
Did the bicycle DUI involve the cop being a shitbag and taking the driver who hit you's side over yours?
Don't they all? Seriously, the cop never even spoke to me until after he dismissed the witnesses and the person who hit me. He was doing the driver's dad a favor by fabricating a story and charges that would result in me being forced to fix the car that hit me. But that's what cops do, isn't it?
Not to mention that Booze Is big bucks in Canada if you are a bootlegger, or a Black Market Distiller, and cigs are so expensive that they are kept in a safe.

The Libertarian Moment Is Unfolding in-Latin America
One reason it may go better there than here: no 'conservative' dead-end rut to fall into and lead them to failure. At least it's not as deep, so they can try something that might actually lead to success.

It was worth repeating.
Cue Naomi Klein screed on "disaster capitalism".
See below on Japan's electricity deregulation.
Liberterian momento
LOL, Naomi Klein being retarded seems like a common theme here.
Some things you can always count on.
Also, Naomi Klein fucking loves the Hispanicommies and thinks Chile was awesome before Milton Friedman ruined it!
"As for the argument that Friedmanite policies are the reason Chileans live in "houses of brick" instead of "straw", it's clear that Stephens knows nothing of pre-coup Chile. The Chile of the 1960s had the best health and education systems on the continent, as well as a vibrant industrial sector and a rapidly expanding middle class. Chileans believed in their state, which is why they elected Allende to take the project even further."
First of all, Chile was dirt poor in the '60s, but if you look at a graph of their GDP per capita relative to the rest of Latin America since the 1970's, Klein's assertion is just laughable.
I'm guessing she doesn't have a source for her assertions about pre-coup Chile.
Sadly, Chile is backtracking disturbingly. Student protester assholes who want a 'one size fits all education' from the government or something like are getting what they want. The president is thankfully hobbled by low copper prices and scandal and is not very popular.
Peru is...interesting right now. They will probably end up with either a Pole or another Jap in charge in a few months.
Until a downturn last year, Chile was still cranking out consistent 5% GDP growth. Heritage still has them at 7th on the economic freedom scale, although you're right that there's been a downward trend the last three years.
The thing about Chile is that their socialist party is substantially more libertarian than the Democrats, so there's no really crazy leftist movement there.
Check this guy out.
Rodrigo Constantino
She's suggesting that Allende wrote the building code? Really?
If your president is hobbled by low copper prices, your country is already doing it wrong.
