Donald Trump Enables Racism
Trump is giving racists carte blanche.

Among the many lamentable features of Donald Trump's ascendancy—and they are legion— two stand out as particularly alarming. One is the enthusiasm with which he endorses violence against his fellow Americans. The other is the degree to which he enables bigotry.
Trump has a history of swimming in those dank waters. He fed birtherist suspicions about President Obama long after such baseless rumors had been thoroughly debunked. Last year he tweeted a flagrantly false graphic claiming that 81 percent of white homicide victims are killed by blacks (the actual figure is 15 percent). The Republican front-runner also has claimed that Mexican immigrants are drug dealers and rapists, has threatened to deport 11 million unlawfully present immigrants, and has proposed a ban on all Muslims entering the United States.
These are broadsides, but Trump also fuels bigotry in other ways. In late February he asked a demonstrator at one of his rallies, "Are you from Mexico?" He has dallied with the KKK, is fond of referring to demographic cohorts as "the" ("the Muslims," "the Hispanics," "the blacks") and has defended two men who assaulted a Latino man as "passionate." (Are Latinos who assault Anglos "passionate"? Better not to ask.)
Offenses against racial comity like these are overt, but Trump might have done the most damage through his infinitely elastic definition of political correctness.
Conservatives properly complain about the left's profligate accusations of racism: Calling someone a "hard worker" is now racist, the new Ghostbusters movie apparently is racist, even undercooking rice is possibly racist, or at least "disrespectful" to Asian culture, at least at Oberlin College in Ohio. For social justice warriors on the left, seemingly everything is racist. It is the go-to accusation that short-circuits reasoned debate with an all-purpose ad hominem.
But what the left has done to racism, Trump is now doing to "political correctness"—applying it to anything he dislikes. This conveniently avoids having to discuss the actual merits of the issue at hand.
The other day a reporter asked Trump what parents should tell their children about his public use of profanity. Trump did not even try to address the question. "Oh, you're so politically correct, you're so beautiful," he replied sarcastically. "You're so perfect. Aren't you perfect? You're such a perfect young man. Give me a break."
Imagine for a moment how Trump supporters would react if Barack Obama sneered at someone like that.
It is not political correctness to wonder if a politician's coarseness could influence how children think and act. Conservatives wondered that very thing at great length when the country was discussing what Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky did with each other's tingly parts.
In fact, GOP contender Ben Carson resurrected the point back in December: "As a pediatric neurosurgeon, I deal with a lot of children, and I see them becoming coarser and wanting to know what certain things are that they're hearing about on television—things that they would've never known about as kids before. And a certain innocence disappears from our society. I'm sorry to see that happen, and I'm sorry that it was because of one of our presidents." Trump did not accuse Carson of political correctness.
There is evidence Trump's behavior is coarsening children, too. In a recent column in the Washington Post, Metro columnist Petula Dvorak described how Trumpian attitudes are trickling down: students from a predominantly white school holding Trump signs during a basketball game against a predominantly Latino school and chanting "Build the wall!"; third-graders in Fairfax telling their immigrant classmates they would be "sent home." Two students at Northwestern have been arrested for desecrating a chapel with swastikas and other hate-filled messages; they also spray-painted "Trump" in a stairway.
And it's not just children. Trump fans have been seen screaming "Motherf---ing tacos!" at nearby Latinos. Over the weekend a Trump supporter allegedly assaulted two minority students in Wichita, called them "brown trash," and promised they would be "thrown over the wall."
Criticizing virulent bigotry like that is not political correctness. Political correctness involves refusing to acknowledge uncomfortable truths out of ideological delusion or to avoid giving offense. But while Trump likes to portray himself as a courageous speaker of hard truths, he is anything but. To the contrary, he is a purveyor of lies.
It is a lie that most white people are killed by black people. It is a lie that Mexican immigrants are drug dealers and rapists—that Muslim refugees are terrorists, that Barack Obama was born abroad, and so on. Shouting them through a bullhorn does not make them any more true.
Trump fans who insist otherwise— who think you can make bigotry virtuous by being belligerent about it; who shout down and sometimes assault those who object—are not fighting political correctness. They are enforcing their own version of it.

This should be a fun thread.
You're enabling conflict
You're enabling enabling.
Don't respond. It just encourages me.
These masturbation euphemisms are getting pretty abstract.
Did you hear about the couple who would only orgasm when the other did? It was a viscous cycle.
LIGHT THE TRUMPTARD SIGNAL!!!!1!!!111!!!!
RELEASE THE TRUMPKEN!!!!1!!!111!!!!
There is evidence Trump's behavior is coarsening children, too.
Nice. An appeal to emotion based on anecdotal evidence. Somebody think of the children! Let's get some government muscle over here!
And society was totally not course and vulgar before Trump. Nope, it was all Leave It To Beaver and Rainbow Puppy Island until that Trumpmonster showed up.
This is the kind of hysterical pearl-clutching that devalues by association any legitimate points that might be made.
Yeah. Throwing in a bunch of fallacies into an argument makes the legitimate points far more irrelevant.
Yes, and the overt bowing down to and obeying "black lives matter" when the angry, violent acting demonstrators scream at Dem politico's if they dare to reply "all lives matter" isn't clear racism. Inventing the term "White Hispanic" by CNN for use in the Trayvon Martin fraud propaganda transmissions, and excusing Obama's many lies and not quite lies by still clear deceptions is necessary or one is a racist - like Trump.
Yeah, Trump is one crude billionaire. Whoop Te doo. Ignoring the overt racism on the left in politics and media to focus on bland, commonly used language in America and call it Trumpist racism is absurd.
Liberals are ruled by there emotions. And race is an emotional issue. Truth and facts be damed. And never expect honesty from Hollywood or the media on race. Not gonna happen.
I'll just leave this here.
Iowa, January 2016:
"Adrie Groeneweg, 54-yr old co-founder and president of Pizza Ranch, said that he had made his decision to endorse Trump a few weeks ago....
"Candidates throughout the years have made Pizza Ranch stops frequently over the course of the campaign. This was the first time Trump has dropped by the deep-dish establishment."
Pizza Ranch? Ugh!
Deep Dish? He's not even a real New Yorker!
I bet he badmouthed the pizza to the owner, who was impressed by his authenticity.
Frank: There are gonna be some changes made. All right, first of all, you two, from now on, are gonna do all of Charlie's work. [Dennis and Dee protest] Stop! Charlie, you got a lot of balls stealing my money. This shows leadership. I am promoting you to management.
Charlie: That's why I did it.
Mac: That's?that's fantastic! That's why I did it, too, Frank! I stole lots of your money. What do I get?
Frank: You get dick because you are a follower and a thief.
Dee: But ... how come Charlie?no fair. How come Charlie?
Dennis: No, why would you do this to us, Dad?
Frank: Because you are crackheads, children.
Aw I sweat uncontrollably!
Who would want to be a real New Yorker? Or even a pantomime New Yorker?
the word "the" is now racist. be careful out there folks.
Subliminal Racist!
I don't think it's racist, but it's almost certainly collectivist in context. Without the "the" the reference is descriptive - black people, Muslim people, etc. The inclusion of the "the" does identify and focus on them as a defined group.
You could submit that as the title of a PhD dissertation at many fine institutions and it would probably be accepted by all.
Doesn't make it rubbish.
Oh so racists can't racist without help now? At least we're equal opportunity in the ?ts not my fault" rabbithole
Racists have to have enablers and safe spaces.
John,
Yes, we have another Reason article that shows that ideas spread, and if not countered will flow into many open minds, be they valid or not. To enable a murderous child abuser as a mother/wife in denial is arguable, but very persuasive. To be speaking in violation of PC, and have raving PC true believers violently protesting does not make you a "violence enabler" in the sense that you have any moral fault accruing to the protestors.
If any racists react their teaching by attacking white people, should we blame teachers and the whole PC preaching establishment? Its persuasive, like the wife/mother of the child abuser, but while arguing be sure to punish both the actual racist and child abuser. The Trump critics usually ignore a given racist except to connect them to Trump. If you mean it, critic, stick to the racist as much or more than to Trump. And pound on "enablers" only after the unarguably guilty are being convicted of their crime. Often, an "enabler" is a very arguable quality.
An i with an umlaut! Yet Another Dave is Hitler! Nothing gets past me.
To the extent this is true it is because white people are getting tired of being blamed for everything and tired of everyone but them being able to claim racial identity and play racial politics. If reason or anyone else is upset by that, they should blame the left for giving up on the idea of a colorblind society and creating race obsessed society for political benefit. Sorry, but the situation where everyone but white people asserted a racial identity and played racial politics was not going to last forever.
Sorry, but the situation where everyone but white people asserted a racial identity and played racial politics was not going to last forever
Not only would it not last forever but the end game was easy to predict and it might be beginning to play out.
Yup. And it is not going to be pretty.
I actually recall you predicting a backlash kind of sort of like what the Trump movement is now.
I mention this because at the time I thought you were exaggerating or even concern-trolling. I am sincerely sorry to have doubted you.
Thanks. And no, I really wasn't.
Let's keep John's ego in check. Thanks.
That's something of a lost cause.
It's hard not to compliment John on his insight. I mean, even his typos are prophetic!
In hindsight, I guess it seems kind of inevitable. Unjustly attack and demonize the majority often enough and eventually there's going to be a backlash.
Yep - Clinton right now is sweeping through southern states on the power of racial pandering alone. Our current President was elected because of his race alone - despite a paper-thin resume. Of course there was eventually going to be a reaction.
Aren't all resumes paper-thin? What is yours printed on?
Stone tablets
Printed? What is this, 1998?
When i need to send out resumes, i have my ink guy tattoo them on the backs of orphans, like a good libertarian.
What are these 'resumes' of which you speak. The Orphan Master vouches for any orphan that he supplies; for employees, a letter of recommendation from a person of quality is all that is needed.
Yes, yes, all very true. I just like having a list of my accomplishments permanently inked on the backs of children.
You are soft. Real libertarians use brands
A gentleman does not boast of his accomplishments, much less should he need to.
The press is so cheaply bought.
White people still make up over 2/3 of the electorate. The Dems are campaigning for the demographics of 2028. or they are under the assumption that illegal aliens can vote. Terrible short term planning, and disastrous to the fabric that loosely holds this country together.
Just another reason to get rid of the illegals before its 'Hillary Forever'.
young millennial whites are sheeple-like being taught to approve of socialism, group-think, and "PC forever." At least half of whites are Dems, and most women favor or lean Dem. That leaves a minority of the whites, the adult white males that aren't Dem's.
Thus Trump pulling Dem voters is former Mayor Giuliani's arguement that Trump is more electable than Cruz in the Blue States. He puts this as due to his appeal to middle and lower economic level voters, and his generally populist economic message. Add that to the immigration strictness tied to a "job theft" meme, the "Muslim Immigration pause," and wrap it in "I'm damn tired of all this PC crap, aren't you?" and you get the stadium filling phenomenon that has become a growing wave.
We're not even a colorblind society. Just about any article you read about the "demographic decline" of whites in the US and Europe, you'll notice the author is positively overjoyed at all the wondrous things that will be possible with a more disenfranchised and less powerful white minority to step on. Yet it's not racist for people to celebrate the declining birth rates of whites et cetera, because everyone knows whites are the racists and are wholly intolerant of all women, gays, browns, yellows, midgets and so on. (despite the fact that white European societies are more tolerant and prosperous for and of those groups than any other civilization in human history)
You also forgot that only white people can be racist - which, ironically, is an incredibly racist statement.
Of course! Reason has never decries identity politics up until now.
Whitey was not going to bend over forever.
Old man whitey won't but he will be dead soon enough.
Millennial whitey believes the destruction of Europeans is a wonderful thing to be celebrated.
Old man whitey won't but he will be dead soon enough.
Millennial whitey believes the destruction of Europeans is a wonderful thing to be celebrated.
Agree, but racial scorekeeping is not the motivation to support Trump. The number of people supporting Trump because he might be a racist is vanishingly small. The numbers are coming from the fact that he refuses to be impugned, refuses to apologize for inexact language on issues with a racial component, and counter -insults when insulted. the numbers are coming because HE IS FIGHTING.
He is demonstrating a will to defend himself and the country against predatory institutions (govt, oligarchy, jihadis, foreign tyrants), predatory ideas (collectivism, socialism, totalitarianism), and predatory individuals (illegal immigrants, terrorists, criminals).
I would rather be defended by a dumb racist than not be defended by a smart pacifist. If he's a virulent genocidal racist the oppo research would have found it by now.
No, he's not a good libertarian, but he's the only real fighter from what I see. And we need a fighter very soon because this shithouse of cards is gonna collapse.
The other thing is trump is the least racist of all the candidates on both sides, largely because he refuses to pander and sees people as people, not as demographic groups to target. But oh no he uses the "wrong" words when speaking
All latinos are passionate. Sheesh, its like you don't even *know* stereotyping.
I believe they pronounce it "pass-e-oon"
All assaulted Anglos are passionate.
Hot blooded, swarthy people.
I feel like you could insert Sanders, Clinton, Obama, or any other currwnt or former presidential candidate in this article and get the same results. Its an evergreen throwaway.
He fed birtherist suspicions about President Obama long after until such baseless rumors had been thoroughly hastily debunked.
FTFY
Um. Wasn't it Clinton who actually started the whole birther thing in the first place?
Yep. But Trump has kept on it well after it was debunked. The MSM, of course, didn't try to debunk it until after Clinton had lost the nomination for some reason.
You know who else called for a pause in Muslim immigration?
John Sobieski?
Jimmy Carter. But that has gone down the memory hole.
It's not part of the politics of now. And it's only mean when a republican does it.
The Spanish?
The Saudis?
Charles Mattel?
*Martel
Mattel will be coming out with its Lil' Crusader set very soon...you too can be a brave Christian knight fighting the infidel Saracens!
Heraclius?
George W. Bush?
No, wait. He decided to invade their countries instead. That worked out much better.
George W. Bush?
The rule is, you're supposed to not answer Hitler.
In an article about Trump?
Good point. Can W and Trump coexist as Hitler, or is Trump taking W's place as Hitler?
Any Republican politician necessarily exists as Hitler. You should know this by now.
/smacks self in forehead
Any Republican politician necessarily exists as Hitler. You should know this by now.
fixed
Theoretically yes, but I haven't actually seen either Sanders or Clinton compared to Hitler.
W. Went back in time and regenerated into Trump. W. Was also Hitler in one of his other previous regenerations. Or a future one. Maybe he's being Hitler out of sequence with linear time. Wibbley wobbly, timely wimey, or some shit.
Kuwait
The Crusaders?
The photo...I can't quite place where I've seen someone with their arm raised like that...
obviously you are thinking of blessings made by a holy man
The mirror while putting on deodorant this morning?
(sigh)
"...Et tu,.... A. Barton Hinklemeyer Schmidt?"
A nicely placed reference to the fact that yesterday was the Ides of March (?)
(falls dramatically while orchestra reaches crescendo)
Fun fact: Caesar actually did not say "e tu, Brute?" when Brutus rushed forward to deal the deepest cut, but "kai su, teknon?" A Greek expression meaning "and you, child?" Interesting that the last words uttered by a Roman were Greek.
All upper class Romans (of which Caesar most certainly was) were highly educated in Greek and spoke it fluently, as the Greeks were considered the fount of culture and education. It's completely unsurprising that Caesar (assuming the reports are true) uttered a Greek phrase as his last words.
I'd like to believe it for the reasons that you mention. I am inclined to think that the expression was not one of lament or surprise, but a defiant "you'll get yours, punk."
I recall some speculation that Brutus was Caesar's bastard son. Brutus's mother had been Julius Caesar's longtime mistress.
Ugh! Is there anything else I was taught that isn't true?
You weren't taught "Et tu, Brute" (which is vocative for direct address, just FYI), because it comes from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, which is a work of fiction, and not a recounting of history.
Oh shit, I'm becoming Nicole.
Only one can be worst!
Only one can be worst!
[Hands Epi bastard sword, scurries to sidelines]
(stabs Epi repeatedly fearing that he is infected with Nikki vampire syndrome)
Dude, regular blades don't work on Nicoles. You need a silver blade dipped in the blood of a child to do any harm. Nice try, though.
(tears GILMORE's arm off)
Is that why she wants all moms to abort?
There is a "John contingent" here in the commentariat, but I did not think this place had sunk to the deep depths of having a "Nicole contingent" as well.
What's next? A "SIV contingent?" IS THAT WHO HIS BLOG IS FOR? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?
(runs to put on West Side Story soundtrack, returns to stage, staring menacingly at ...others)
(recoils in horror, looks around, sees something offstage, grabs it, and begins spraying armpits and furniture with aerosol disinfectant)
Whatever. It's all Tulpa, anyway.
Though argulably it is closer to history than say, "Gladiator".
Ridley Scott, Suetonius.... same thing.
(stabs wizard in the back with a sword)
"kai su, teknon?"
Hmmm.......did Ceaser have a birth certificate?
Yes, and it shows he was born in Hawaii. Weird or what!
No, not at all. It was written in Greek, just like you'd expect.
Maybe playing overly energetic wack-a-mole with racists, both supposed and actual, has had the knock-on effect, not of discrediting and disabusing people of their racist impulses, but making them resentful and open to it. Especially when the condemnations have been overtly and heatedly one-sided.
Just making the word into a joke - because it only works on people who aren't actually racist.
Privilege theory is purpose-made for enabling and encouraging racism against whites. It's an avowal that it's okay to hate certain people because of broad class considerations, the sort of thinking that haunts Jews. But that form of racism is useful to progressives, even as they try to stamp out similar avowals, more and more often make-believe, among whites. And now we've reached the point at which simmering resentment is boiling over into actual calls for exclusion and violence. The shallow bigotries of many white people, something which should have been tolerated as a contemptible but largely harmless low-class mentality, have been driven deep into the psyche like a sort of private religion shared only among friends and drinking buddies for fear of public censure. It's the sort of thing that breeds resentment.
Trump has learned to tap into their resentment, but his success was made possible by the strident crusade to eliminate racism even while fostering it among minorities. Racism isn't going anywhere; it can never be eliminated. But it can be empowered. Building it up into the original sin of progressive theology has made racism empowering for a certain breed of malcontent. This isn't the only element of Trump's success, but I think it's core to it. He makes hatred plausibly fashionable.
This is a very valid statement. As always, we see unintended consequences when people don't look at incentives. And most people, amazingly, do not look at incentives at all, which is...insane, frankly.
Let's keep CS's ego in check.
Trump and the ongoing toss-up in Europe really puts the lie to Fukuyama's end of history, don't they? Social engineering in liberal democracies hasn't wrought the utopian ideal of a post-racial, post-religious Western world. Progressives are wrong about the perfectability of mankind, and a resurgence of racial tension is the legacy of their well-intentioned but mistaken efforts.
Progressives don't want perfection, where is the percentage in that.
'...a resurgence of racial tension is the legacy of their well-intentioned but mistaken efforts.'
Really? You think their efforts were 'well-intentioned' and 'mistaken'. Vile would be my word of choice.
The intention to rule your neighbor by force is the worst of all intentions.
I remember when everyone thought the 21st century was going to be all flying cars and moon bases.
It's looking more and more like it's gonna be the Middle Ages with iPhones.
Yup. You might as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb.

It's small, but I can work it!
That's what she said!
/tooObvious
The ''build a wall'' chant is hilarious. Overreacting to that is truly retarded. Also, I had no idea students at Northwestern are still considered children.
"Trumpian attitudes are trickling down"
Trickle down Trumponomics?
Trumponomics is never a trickle. It's yuuuge!
The build a wall chant is funny. It is no different than the kids from rich schools chanting "some day you are going to work for us", which they have been doing for decades. Is reason this much of a bunch over sensitive pantywastes?
And I bet you a hundred dollars the Mexican kids laughed at the Build a Wall chant.
There are plenty of reasons to dislike Donald Trump, and claiming he is a AdolphHitlerDavidDuke who is responsible for all the stupid, juvenile pranks in the world is pretty lame. It just emboldens his legion of morons.
I'd be shocked if they didn't. I bet there were plenty of lily white teachers and administrators that got offended in their stead.
You know who else enabled racism?
Harry J. Anslinger?
Margaret Sanger?
Whichever librarian hasn't kicked Irish off the public computers yet?
I'm not even allowed in most libraries since I'm not supposed to come within 150 feet of children.
If you'd respected their boundaries in the first place you wouldn't have to worry about where you come.
I'm not supposed to come within 150 feet of children white children.
Always having to one up Irish. Let him get ahead for once.
What a coincidence! Getting a head is why I'm not allowed near children anymore.
You are not helping here!
Bill Clinton?
I don't disagree, but it was bound to happen after the anti-white identity politics the left has been spouting for the last ten years. They created millions of actual racists who would have not been otherwise. Although it's absolutely not true that most white people are killed by black people, it is true that a white person is more likely to be killed by a black person than the other way around. The media can no longer control the narrative, since people find out about things on the internet. White people in the middle of the country are tried of being blamed for why black people in liberal cities are shooting each other. They are mocked and ridiculed due to their culture on every TV show, talk show, and movies controlled by liberals. It is absolutely no different than anti-black racism, history aside. Trump is not a cure to this in any sense, he is just an excessive immune system reaction, like anaphylactic shock.
I see cases like the MacDonald shooting and really have to wonder what hope these people can possibly have. Suicide by cop, or even just tempting fate, probably seems like an acceptable protest against their lot in life. Surrounded by economic losers and people just barely hanging on, few intact families, rampant drug use, resigned to gang violence, deteriorating public services, terrible schools, abusive cops, and little hope of getting out. It's difficult to accept the fact that the people purportedly helping them have helped keep them down, and those people are now telling them to blame whites in the suburbs. I can hardly blame them for taking the bait.
the people purportedly helping them have helped keep them down, and those people are now telling them to blame whites in the suburbs. I can hardly blame them for taking the bait.
Except it's blindingly obvious that white people in the suburbs are not the ones who've been running these inner city hellholes for decades and decades. And the people that they keep voting for who have been running things keep making it worse.
Right, but what's the alternative? Self-reflection? Recognizing the self-destructive nature of American black culture? Accepting a measure of blame for your own situation in life?
All of these things are hard to do. Hating a scapegoat is easy and less threatening to a narcissistic ego. It's no wonder so many black Americans choose the easy, seductive path the left has created for them.
Sure, but where are the endless articles about how Obama, Hillary and Bernie enable racism and other social conflicts?
They're only racist against crackers, so it doesn't count.
"They're only racist against crackers"
Oh no, their racist against everyone
I guess I should have specified overtly racist.
While Trump is a huge shitbag, I'll defend him on this.
How many politicians people cuss like sailors in private and are perfect "gentlemen" in public? Why? It's disingenuous. Puritanical douchebagery. You try to trick me into thinking you are a better person than you are using public niceties? I'd much prefer seeing the truth.
Only a complete moron believes that happy horseshit. By the third grade, kids have heard every dirty word in existence. And at least half are using them. At least that's how it was in 1978. I can't imagine it's gotten better. And you know where we learned half of them? Our fine upstanding parents.
Ben, take your fairy tale world of rainbows and unicorns and jam it up your poopy hole.
I'd much prefer seeing the truth.
Really? I prefer the divide. I don't hang my willy out of my trousers and I rather like the fact that nobody else does, either. But I don't mind doing it in private. There's room for hypocritical decorum in the world.
Courtesy is not hypocrisy. I despise the SJWs and all they stand for, and the whole concept of hate speech is anathema to liberty, but that does not make it polite to call someone a nigger or a kike. Giving offense deliberately should be reserved for situations where it has been earned, not spread about wholesale.
I could see me voting for Donald Trump - if he was getting like 5% of the vote. Trump is explicitly running on a principled position of having no principles - everything's negotiable, everything's for sale - and he's somehow attracting the votes of people who claim they're sick and tired of these lying sacks-of-shit politicians who have no principles. So Trump is being refreshingly honest in letting you know right up front he's dishonest, and that's why you're voting for the guy? Really? The only thing I can take away from this is that Donald Trump voters don't really give a shit about principles, they just want Free Shit every bit as much as the hardest of the hardcore Bernie Sanders supporter and they only differ in what the Free Shit is and who should get it. And they're going to be pissed when they don't get what they were promised by the guy who ran on a platform of not keeping his promises.
But the guy is letting you know right now if you elect him he intends to fuck you and he intends to fuck you hard - and yet when he fucks you you're going to whine and cry that you didn't think he meant he was going to fuck you personally. Don't come looking to me for any sympathy when President Trump keeps that particular promise.
It's not just Free Shit...it's fucking over (and potentially getting the money for Free Shit from) the hated Other Team, or Dirty Foreigners, or those damn 1%, or the Cultural Elite. It's all about hate and who their guy promises to fuck over and piss off and who drives the hated Other wild. The most repulsive aspect of all of this is how it's absolutely not about "things" or "positions" or "I promise to do X good thing", it's all about "I will fuck over Y and Z" and "I promise to do X terrible thing".
It's flat out scumbag tribalism, and shitloads of people are going in whole hog on it. It's fucking disgusting.
I agree with this completely.
Be serious, CJ. You just get a chubby when you hear the word "disgusting".
He was describing how he fucks. Fucking disgusting.
He also gets a chubby when he hears the phrase "whole hog," so your comment was like catnip to him.
I get a chubby during all of the Martha scenes on The Americans.
Let's face it, you get a chubby during all of the Martha scenes on Martha Speaks, too.
IOW...
Pre WWII Germany.
People Godwinning Trump is appropriate. Scapegoating works. One man can take political unrest, blame it on undeserving groups of people and command hordes of followers.
Thank Zod, it could never happen here.
One man can take political unrest, blame it on undeserving groups of people and command hordes of followers.
That's been going on here prior to Trump. Trump just has different scapegoats than the left.
It's flat out scumbag tribalism,
Precisely. But tribalism is like fighting a war. Sooner or later, you have to fight the war out of self-defense, or be ground into the dirt. As tribalism escalates in society (thanks, SJWs and civil rights apparatchiks!), sooner or later you have to join a tribe . . . .
But again, this was inevitable. You can't have one party almost exclusively running on tribalism, encouraging it among its supporting voter minorities, but endlessly wagging a collective finger at the majority, telling them they can't do that well before they've even indicated a desire to try. This is the fruit of leftist identify politics, full stop.
It would be easier for me to be disgusted with the Trump supporters if they had a real alternative. But the GOP intends only to play by the progressive's insane rulebook, even now, so what alternative do the voters feel they have?
But the guy is letting you know right now if you elect him he intends to fuck you and he intends to fuck you hard
Was it you who referred to Trumpkins as that porn actress getting rough anal sex and sobbing while crying out for more? Because the image has stuck with me. Except in my mind it's a nominally straight dude getting pounded while screaming that he's not a faggot. Sure, buddy. You're straight as the day is long. At least ask your partner to buy you a drink before giving it up next time.
These people have no idea what they want.
That's where you're wrong. They want to see the regressive left squirm and wail and decry the authoritarianism they've, until late, enjoyed in the hands of Dear Leader. And they want to see the establishment GOP burn.
Yes, they're shallow desires. But that's what they want.
Sounds like one big faggot cookie to me.
Trump's anti-PC is very refreshing, and I love his quote "You're so perfect. Aren't you perfect?" This is great and should not be condemned. But yes he goes too far, and inflames racism. In fact the core of his appeal is the promise of witch hunts against immigrants, muslims, blacks and the 'mentally ill'. Of course, he switches his targets day to day, and disavows his disavowals, denounces his denunciations, denies his denials. As do his followers. I think there is some good to come out of this, but he and his followers are eager to abuse and exploit a vulnerable minority - doesn't really matter which. I think that Libertarian philosophy of self reliance, tolerance, and responsibility to others draws the line properly between anti-PC and racism.

"Say it! Say it!"
"What?"
"You were gonna call me a nigger, weren't you?"
"No I wasn't!"
"Yes you were! What were you gonna call me?"
"Asshole! How's that, asshole!"
Don't forget the fable of the little shepherd boy who kept crying "wolf!"
At first, when the villagers heard that they stopped everything they were doing and rushed to the scene prepared to kill the wolf, only to find that it was a poodle.
When this kept up for a while, soon the only people who rushed to the scene are the really stupid villagers, and the media (but I repeat myself).
Finally, a real wolf arrives and the boy cries "wolf" like before, and the stupid villagers rush over, but the normal villagers have pretty much tuned it out and assume it's another poodle.
If today the media had footage of Trump calling Hitler "a swell guy," normal people would simply ignore it and assume that the footage had been doctored in some way.
Well I heard from a very reliable source, NBC, that George Zimmerman was obsessed with telling the dispatcher how black Martin was. Racism! Racism everywhere! Run for your lives!
The Zimmerman shooting was such a clusterfuck, especially given that Zimmerman is actually kind of a scumbag.
He was just a scumbag who leftists were trying to railroad into a murder conviction when there was reasonable doubt out the ass.
He was a scumbag and I actually do think he's somewhat of a racist judging from his post-trial antics. But the left and it's various mouthpieces, NBC in particular, were so hellbent on his destruction that they actually edited the 911 call and engaged in the most obvious forms of character assassination. They don't care about justice, they care about their narrative and scoring political points with their favored groups.
Well if he wasn't a scumbag before, who could blame him for being one now.
I suppose this could be like a supervillain origin story, when a nice guy turns evil after the system screws him.
Or maybe he was an asshole before the trial.
He was certainly a creep before the trial. He didn't have to behave like a vigilante and follow Martin after he called the police. They even told him to stop and wait for police and he didn't.
But that doesn't make him a murderer.
From the trial I understood that he did in fact listen to the police and was walking back to his car when the altercation started.
Zimmerman was a Democrat and an Obama voter. He mentored black kids. He got spooked and went neighborhood watchy--but he was not racist.
Then Trayvon attacked him, and his whole world crumbled. The people he'd helped disavowed him--the left, as is it's wont--abandoned him utterly.
And he suddenly became as white as the driven snow. Despite being nearly as black as Obama.
He's the way he is now because he's severely damaged.
Is it me, or is a rather broad definition of rasicm being used here.
Well, it has to be broad enough to include everything that someone doesn't like.
Yeah, this is almost Sheldon Richman level stupid.
"Is it me, or is a rather broad definition of rasicm being used here."
On some of these issues, sure. That graphic about black vs. white homicides was pretty bad though, since it was produced by white supremacists and blatantly lied about murder stats with the express goal of scaring gullible white people.
Well, if anyone would know what white supremacists are producing, it would be Irish...
Did it blatantly lie though?
If you look at the current stats(well, the ones used in the article decrying the meme) You see something interesting. The first three match the actual stats pretty well. The last two look reversed when put against the real stats--as if they'd switched places.
The kind of mistake that's easily made when copying numbers from one table into another. Not saying it was a mistake--it fits their biases too well--but the first three stats did correspond pretty well with the real ones.
But, what really gets me is the vehemence of the reaction to someone passing on a meme that wasn't true. Like Trump was the first person to ever do such a thing.

" Last year he tweeted a flagrantly false graphic claiming that 81 percent of white homicide victims are killed by blacks (the actual figure is 15 percent)"
Even better: The graphic featured a black guy in a do-rag holding a gun sideways.
There's totally not a purposefully racist component to Trump's campaign though. Obviously a graphic like that isn't meant to stoke fear among white people that the blacks are coming to get them.

"There is evidence Trump's behavior is coarsening children, too. In a recent column in the Washington Post, Metro columnist Petula Dvorak described how Trumpian attitudes are trickling down: students from a predominantly white school holding Trump signs during a basketball game"
Yeah, when teenagers behave like assholes, let's pretend they're children instead of adolescents and then blame Trump for their behavior instead of their parents...
The progressives, social justice warriors, and their fans in the media have convinced people that the Democratic Party is for illegal immigrants, Muslims, gay rights groups, Black Lives Matter, and others who despise middle class, blue collar, whites for being middle class, blue collar, and white.
Those people are being chased out of the Democratic fold for being white (among other things)--and you want to talk about the racial division Donald Trump is creating?
Well said. All Trump is doing is saying "I feel your pain"...
Whitey is Da Debil, haven't you heard?
Imagine for a moment how Trump supporters would react if Barack Obama sneered at someone like that.
We don't need to imagine. Obama did and does sneer at people "like that" constantly - and the Trumpeteers flocked to Trump and are voting for him in primaries, regardless of what he says or does. So that's "how Trump supporters would react".
Hey Obama - reaping what you sow - how does it fucking work?
+1 typical white person
+1 bitter clinger
and you want to talk about the racial division Donald Trump is creating?
Sure. It's not like any of us have anything else going on.
Oh how I long for the days before Trump was born when there was no racism.
It was paradise, it was, before Trump decided to run for president....
He was a Republican, right?
Well, he must have been!
ugh, white supremacist much?
Who did Reason Staff vote for in the last two presidential elections? How many voted for that rabid racist cocksucker sitting in the whitehouse now?
Far more than will admit it now. One of them actually claimed to have 'forgotten'.
"....has threatened to deport 11 million unlawfully present immigrants"
unlawfully present immigrants?
soooooooooooooo.........................illegal aliens?
glad to see Reason staff ensuring they follow the PC journalism guidelines
...and if you steal something you can call it "unlawfully present merchandise."
undocumented merchandise
Hinkle, have you ever left Starbucks? Nearly everything in your anti-T rant has been going on for years! While I agree with the broadside against the SJW screed above, PC is an ever moving entity, defined differently by so many.
The line: "Imagine for a moment how Trump supporters would react if Barack Obama sneered at someone like that." really annoyed me, as Barry does the previous insults regularly. To fail to realize the vast number of real insults originating from this president marks a scary lack of insight.
Many of your examples are unfounded rumors put out by the MSM, some even resoundingly disproved. The coarsening of political discourse has been led by Barry 'bring a gun' Obama aid his ilk. Well, of late. I remember the anti-Nixon protesters screaming for his head.
I still haven't seen an explanation for this:
My name is Donald Trump and I'm a BIG fan of Israel
And Trump is going to AIPAC. According to the latest rumors.

Okay. Trump doesn't like illegal immigrants. Why? Because they're 'brown'? Or because they're illegal? Are there regular references to 'beaners', 'spics', 'wetbacks' in his rallies? No.
And legal immigrants?
It was just revealed that Trump is willing to help a bunch of Chinese people fast-track if they invest--good move for a businessman--not so much for a president. But no real bias apparent against legal immigration.
A ban on Muslim immigration and refugees until we vet them better. Hmmm. Accepting this gets the 'pantsshitter' label because you've got more chance of getting killed by lightening than by a terrorist. But there are several considerations overlooked--one, the lightening isn't trying to kill you--two, that's at our present ratio of jihadis to infidels--what happens if we start importing more? Will that number go up? It certainly has in Europe. So, I think I'd rather err on the side of better vetting.
I don't see a lot of black people at Trump rallies. But I haven't heard him talking against black people. So what's the deal?
He doesn't seem to have patience for Black Lives Matter and their tactics. But is that actually 'racist'? It is to them, but if Reason is accepting their stance then they might as well just close up shop now because they're full on SJW retards.
I have to say--I'm not seeing any real racism here. I'm seeing a lot of stuff the left calls 'racism', but, to any person who can actually use their brain, it isn't.
Re: Azathot!
Because they're from Mexico. He mentioned Mexico specifically, through the collectivist statement which implies that the whole country sends their worst through the border with the exception of "some" which, he assumes, are "good people."
Indeed. More like anti-Mexican bigotry. "Mexican" is not a race but a nationality.
...but Trump also fuels bigotry in other ways. In late February he asked a demonstrator at one of his rallies, "Are you from Mexico?"
Asking someone their country of origin is inherently bigoted now? Did my browser take a wrong left turn and drop me at ThinkProgress.org instead of Reason.com?
It is a lie that Mexican immigrants are drug dealers and rapists
It is only a lie if there is some qualifying statement to make it so, such as "all Mexican immigrants are drug dealers and rapists", which in the interest of Hinkleian honesty we are duty-bound to acknowledge nobody - not even Trumpitler - has ever actually said. It is plainly true that some percentage of Mexican immigrants are drug dealers, and rapists, and any other variety of criminal you can imagine - as there are criminals of all type in every conceivable demographic category.
that Muslim refugees are terrorists
Same goes. It is true that some Muslim refugees have been arrested on terrorism charges, while most Muslim refugees have not. It is equally true that Trumpitler has not said that all Muslim refugees are terrorists without qualification.
In a screed extolling the virtues of truth-telling, it's best not to descend to the same level of the person you are accusing. It may well be the case that Donald J Trump is the most racist racist since racism came to racistville, and if it is, it should be plenty easy to prove without false attribution.
Re: Pat (PM)
He did, Pat, the moment he added the conjunction "and" in the last part of his statement "and some, I assume, are good people". When he added the determiner "some", he made a categorical statement by categorizing some as good people, meaning the rest have to be drug dealers and rapists. Trace a Venn diagram and you will see.
Sure, except that that is now what he said. In unequivocal terms he made it clear that MORE THAN HALF of Mexican immigrants have to be drug dealers, rapists and criminals, while the rest (SOME, he assumes) being good people, since "some" cannot mean anything more than less than 50%.
I think you give Trump more credit for precision in language than is due. I suppose we could say that the statement is further qualified by his opening reference to the Mexican immigrants that Mexico "sends" to the USA (presumably Mexico conscripts its worst people for this task, a-la The Dirty Dozen). Perhaps he is referring to this group as a subset of all Mexican immigration, like the Muriel boatlift was a subset of all Cuban immigration. It may also be that his categorizations were not intended to be fully inclusive despite the linguistic structure of his sentence. "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people." I mean, "drugs" "crime" "rapists" and "good people", there's gotta be more than that - "pestilence" "illiteracy" "taco chef", etc. I kid, of course, but I mean, that's an awful high-level analysis of a statement that was not exactly an award winning feat of English language usage.
But even if he did mean exactly what he said - that 50%+1 of Mexican immigrants (or at least the ones "sent" by Mexico, whatever that means) are drug dealers or rapists, it's incorrect and may well be an outright lie, but it's a different lie than the one Hinkle attributes, which doesn't look very good when you're going all fire and brimstone.
And of course, the biggest lie of all is that Trump actually believes anything he says. It wasn't long after the famous "rapists" speech that he revealed his grand jackboot deportation scheme... which is a tagback program where the vast majority of illegal immigrants would get to re-enter legally, differing from Reason's own proposed immigration plan only in the level of inconvenience incurred to the undocumented.
To be fair, he said unequivocally that more than half of Mexican immigrants are drug dealers and rapists, the moment he added "and some, I assume, are good people" because that last statement closed the universe of people he was talking about (Immigrants) to mean drug dealers, rapists and some good people. Draw a Venn diagram and you will see.
Well, gee, maybe we can accuse the same thing of Obama. True story; right after Obama was elected the second time, I was riding on the train and three young men of a different race than my own jumped on the train shouting. They shouted at me and all the white people on there that we were all now the new N-bombs and Obama was gonna show us all how big of N-Bombs we were. Oh, and this recently happened under Obama's administration too...
http://www.avweb.com/avwebflas.....472-1.html
I'm not sure I'm reading Reason or MSNBC or NPR anymore. All getting to be the same.
Take a closer look at the media's part in this. Trump's words are often taken out of context. For example take the line IN THIS ARTICLE regarding immigration.
"Republican front-runner also has claimed that Mexican immigrants are drug dealers and rapists, has threatened to deport 11 million unlawfully present immigrants, and has proposed a ban on all Muslims entering the United States."
This sounds like he said ALL Mexican immigrants are drug dealers and rapists and it explicitly says he wants to ban Muslims from entering the country. Both of these are incorrect. He was only speaking of ILLEGAL Mexican immigrants and that SOME of them are bad people. (He has repeatedly said he isn't against LEGAL Mexican immigration.) And he was talking about temporarily banning Muslim IMMIGRATION and would not stop Muslim Americans from re-entering after going abroad. I personally think the wall is a waste of money and I don't think ISIS is that much of a threat, but this isn't racism; this is Trump trying to vet potentially dangerous people before they can enter the country. That is ISIS and the small percent of bad people crossing the American-Mexican border; not ALL Muslims and not ALL Mexicans.
The media is exaggerating this stuff, which I see as being at least partially responsible for the conflict sweeping the nation. Maybe Trump could choose his words better and try to cool down the hostilities towards protesters, but I can't see how he deserves the entire blame for this situation.
A. Hinkle is a reverse racist.....................
these immigrants that you talk of are ILLEGAL INVADERS!!
Read the Quran, Hinkle...then talk to me about race..
pitiful!
I'm not seeing the problem, here...
More SJW grievance pedaling.
Fuck off, Hinkle.
Muslims are terrorists. It only took 19 terrorists of 9/11 for America to surrender and vote a President named Hussein, who was probably born in Kenya or Indonesia. Reason Magazine is an apologist for Islamic terror anyway.
