Obama to SXSW: Government Has Failed You But You Should Trust It Anyway
The president delivered a keynote to Austin's tech confab this afternoon.

South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi), the big annual technology, media, and entrepreneurship conference held in Austin every March, got an unusually high-profile guest speaker this year: Barack Obama. In his opening-day keynote address, the president all but apologized to young people for how outmoded their federal government is—while also imploring them to give it credit for all the "great things" it does for us "every day."
Obama began by admitting something not often heard from Washington, D.C., establishment figures like a sitting commander in chief: "Our government's not working, our politics aren't working as well as they should," he said. When the interviewer prodded him with a question about how Washington, in contrast to the tech sector, is "big and bloated and slow and risk averse," Obama didn't disagree, and in fact offered the audience a note of humor and self-awareness.
"Let me give you an example of the big and the bloated and the frustrating," he said. "You may recall that I passed this law called the Affordable Care Act to give people access to health insurance—and then the website didn't work. And this was a little embarrassing for me because, you know, I was the cool early adopter president, and my entire campaign had been premised on having really cool technology."
It was a concession even a libertarian could almost be proud of. Unfortunately, the sentiment didn't last long. Within moments, Obama was explaining that "what happened as a consequence of healthcare.gov breaking down" was that "we realized we could build a SWAT team, a world-class technology office, inside government. We did that with the U.S. Digital Service."
See, what President Obama wants you to know is that you only think Washington is frustratingly inefficient. Evincing exasperation at critics (including libertarians, whom he specifically name checked), he said that "when government does great things we take it for granted." His pivotal example: the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
"Government is delivering every day," he declared. "I could find the fiercest libertarian in the room…but they're checking the weather on their phone, and lo and behold, there's a government satellite out there that's facilitating that."
It was a reminder of the difference between people like Obama and people like me: He sees government's many glaring failures and concludes that it's imperative they be fixed, because there are no other means by which society can solve the "big, important problems" that we face. Whereas I see government's many glaring failures and conclude it's imperative we find other ways to solve society's big important problems, since government has shown itself repeatedly to be so godawful bad at it.
But for people like the president, fixing government remains a straightforward proposition: All you have to do is to install a good, smart, competent manager and then get out of his way. As Obama quipped this afternoon: "I've said I could change the politics of America faster than anything if I could just take control of all the DMVs."

Cue Irish and Hetero Patriarch to explain how this proves the Trump supporters are Nazis.
And stop endorsing violence Ugcc!!
I am sure reason will have Robby write a "I wish my friends in the Bernie movement would learn to excercise their rights without infringing on others' rights but...." sometime Monday.
This particular incident makes Trump the good guy.
Other incidents, not so much.
He's a would-be Huey Long, a WASP caudillo. He can't even be trusted with the Supreme Court, the least-common-denominator policy the Republicans use to keep the conservatives on the reservation.
This is what actual fascism looks like. And expect reason and about half this board to respond with a few sure this was bad but... moral equivocations.
The reason why you know Trump isn't a fascist is because all of the right thinking people hate him. When real fascism shows up, the right thinking are always the first to cheer it.
Bear in mind that retarded lefty proto-fascists attacked Hubert Humphrey in 1968 - would you have taken that to mean you should vote Humphrey?
They'll target just about anyone - heck, they targeted Sanders.
Some time back, I had a link where some SJWs tried to disrupt a gay rights parade because the organizers were too corporatey.
the parade organizers
The point is not to vote for Trump. The point is that people like Irish and Geoff defend actual fascists because telling the truth would require them ending their fantasy that Trump is anything but a populist. And doing that would deprive them of their social signaling, which is pretty much all they have in life it seems.
I really haven't seen them defend fascists, I think you need to take a few deep breaths and think about butterflies, or something.
Irish is doing it below. Rather than call this what it is, we are told it is just like the Trump supporters, as in a single instance of an 80 year old man punching someone is the same as a mob showing up and starting a riot at another rally
Rather? I miss Rather. Don't you, John?
Just kidding, John.
She is out there Sloopy. She is always out there stalking and waiting. Sad but true.
Bitches be crazy, John. Bitches most certainly be crazy.
"Irish is doing it below. Rather than call this what it is, we are told it is just like the Trump supporters, as in a single instance of an 80 year old man punching someone is the same as a mob showing up and starting a riot at another rally"
I never said this. I said I had to listen to Trump supporters arguing that the violence was okay and now I have to listen to progressives argue that the protesters' violence is okay. I was comparing the justifications for violence between the two groups. I was not comparing the old man punching one guy to a mob shutting down a Trump rally.
If you'd like to quote where you imagine I made an equivalence between those two things, be my guest.
If the leftist trash show up and fuck with the Trump supporters at a Teump rally, they shouldn't be surprised if they get hurt. I personally hope they get hurt a lot. Because that's what happens, man. That's what happens.
Actual fascism, as it played out in Spain, Italy and Germany, involved organized street gangs beating the shit out of the enemy and terrorizing people.
This is a leaderless mob besetting itself on an obvious target with no coherent strategy or thought to it. The Trump campaign has explicitly said they're okay with violence against reporters and against protesters because they're asking for it. That's for more chilling and insidious than the same shit we've seen for the last 40 years from idiot leftists.
So you are telling me that the fact that someone is willing to stand up to these leaderless mobs instead of getting run over is the problem and not the mobs?
Is there any story that you don't spin as an excuse to shit your pants over Trump? A mob showed up and started a riot and you think that it just shows how insidious Trump is.
You guys are nothing if not predictable.
The Chicago people are the aggressors, period.
But let me ask, what did that libertarian lady journalist do? Where was the need for the Trump campaign to defend itself against her?
what did that libertarian lady journalist do?
Cry, play victim and file frivolous charges?
Two things:
1. The heckler's veto is a nonviolent action that does not warrant a violent response forom jackbooted thugs, whether government or private. In this instance we have an actual riot but Trump just last night called the Tienanmen Square protests---which featured one of the bravest moments of the 20th century---a "riot" and praised China's response to it. Says a lot about his view of protest, doesn't it?
2. If Trump actually wanted to stand up to these people maybe he shouldn't have cancelled the rally. His supporters are okay with sucker punching protesters and assaulting reporters but are such pussies that they won't face down an actual mob? Says a lot about his movement, doesn't it?
So you are endorsing the hecklers veto? And if Trump had not canceled the rally and is supporters had fought back, you would be calling them fascists. Instead, he does the responsible thing and cancels the rally and you are calling them cowards.
That is pathetic Geoff. The Bernie people could have showed up with shotguns and you would be spinning it as how cowardly the Trump people were for getting shot, because that is what you do.
Now *I'm* defending him!
First Amendment controversies do that.
I think Trump called off the rally so that the mob would be clearly placed in the wrong - and it worked.
Also, going ahead with the rally would have given the cops in a Democratic city the discretion to make arrests on both sides, and Lord knows how the media would spin it.
Even as it is, the media is trying to moral-equivalencize this thing (holding a rally on a campus filled with nonwhite and foreign students, he's just asking for it!).
Trump's behaving like the good guy in this situation - this *specific* situation. The thing with the journalist makes me doubt his actual commitment to the 1st Amendment, and the thing about Tiananmen Square - if he's being quoted in context - is fairly chilling.
Oh, no, moral equivalence!!!
You know, if there were ever going to be a group of people who would understand the difference between colorful rhetoric and actual violence, it would be the Reason commentariat.
*SIGH*!!
I guess not.
A lot of the people here are just as nasty and venomous towards anyone who does not adhere to their ideology (open borders no matter what, anarcho capitalism, etc.) as the progtards.
Personally, I hope the anti Trump faggot cookies try assaulting an armed CC holder who shoots them dead. Maybe then they'll think twice about fucking with people.
Bands of Nazi thugs in the 1920s also often didn't have leaders. All they had is a massive chip on their shoulders for all the wrongs that had supposedly been done to themselves and "their race" by capitalists, Jews and foreigners. And that is the same dynamic we see among progressive "activists" today.
It seems like only yesterday....
John|3.10.16 @ 10:46AM|#|?|filternamelinkcustom
Yesterday that you couldn't read. How about the rest of the post?
It is amazing that this hasn't happened before now. I don't know what you do about it. Certainly, you should clamp down on it and go after the guy who threw the punch to the full extent of the law. And shame on the LEOs for not doing that. That, however, is unlikely to solve the problem. It will keep a lid on it for a while but as long as the left keeps shouting down and disrupting every rally or speech they don't like, it is just a matter of time before something awful happens. I don't know what you do to stop that.
Why don't you post that? You are a lying stupid awful person Geoff. I never endorsed or morally equivocated about the violence. And you know it. You are just lying because you are too stupid to ever win an argument with me.
"And expect reason and about half this board to respond with a few sure this was bad but... moral equivocations."
Called Nikki on it yesterday, John today:
Bull
.
.
.
shit.
Ahh, yes! Finally! Now the other side is doing it, we can break out the f-word! Whew!
*hands John a cigarette*
Yes because some old man throwing a punch at a rally is totally the same thing as this.
You people are so stupid and predictable. False moral equivalency. You could see it coming a mile away. It was going to be your move.
Yes because some old man throwing a punch at a rally is totally the same thing as this.
It's actually worse because Trump explicitly approves of the old man throwing a punch at this rally and would love to see more of it.
Because this is what we want a leader
One guy is worse than a mob showing up and using the hecklers veto. That is retarded Geoff. It just is. The guy at the Trump rally was arrested. And at least one person at the rally stood up to the cops about how they were treating the protestors. And you think that is worse than what happened tonight.
That is self evidently retarded. You are just desperate and angry something has happened that makes it hard to further shit your pants over Trump.
No, Trump's anti-1Am rhetoric (itself protected by the 1A, of course) is a problem.
There's no one running for president who isn't anti-1A
True, but it comes in different flavors.
From what I've seen, the Republicans not named Trump are reasonably pro 1A, or at least haven't made overturning the 1A a campaign platform.
I certainly approve of it. You people don't fucking get it. Until the number of progtards is greatly reduced, all our freedoms will continue to be eroded. So you can just sit there and wrong your hands and bitch (how much has that done for you?) or you can come to the right conclusion. They aren't going away. And they will have to be dealt with, sooner or later. The alternative is complete slavery to some Marxist state.
Funny, while you see this as a repudiation of Trump and his supporters, I see it as a clusterfuck of a battle between two competing bands of idiotic shitbags, We're not in Nazi Germany so much as we're in Franco's Spain. But hoist that flag high, John. Keep on fighting the good fight.
Early to mid 20th century Spain is a very good comparison. I hadn't thought of that. So is Trump Franco?
Early 20th Century Spain made great stylish pistols. We make polymer shit.
If you have to have a fascist dictator you can do worse than Franco. Unfortunately I suspect we will in fact do worse.
I would trade Obama for Franco or Pinochet. At least Chili had a decent economy and didn't go broke.
Oh my God. If I criticized Pinochet he would have had me dragged to a torture chamber then murdered.
And the economy of Spain was garbage under Franco because, guess what, fascism isn't good for economic growth. They were still basically a third world country until they had massive growth in the 70's and 80's after Franco was gone.
Oh my God. If I criticized Pinochet he would have had me dragged to a torture chamber then murdered.
And the economy of Spain was garbage under Franco because, guess what, fascism isn't good for economic growth. They were still basically a third world country until they had massive growth in the 70's and 80's after Franco was gone.
But compared to Mussolini, Hitler, Tojo, and the various Latins, Franco was better. We are comparing dictators here! Which somehow seems appropriate this election.
I'm not even sure that Franco can be classified as a true Fascist. He took help where he could get it during a civil war.
He was never invaded by the Allies, no war crimes trials, etc. He chose his allies poorly, but I don't think Franco was a true fascist.
Franco's ideology was Franco. The Falangists were the genuine dictionary definition capital-F Fascists in Spain... and Franco used 'em (particularly in attracting aid from Germany & Italy), and then snapped 'em like a twig the first chance he got.
It can be true that both sides are shitheads who are all about the FEELZ of the moment than any sort of rational thought.
In this case the morons are just feeding the persecution complex Trumpaloes have invented for themselves because they're too stupid to respond rationally to Trump's bullshit.
None of this absolves Team Trump from explicitly condoning the assault of reporters and protesters by their incipient Brown Shirts.
Keep signaling Geoff. Everyone is stupid but you. If there is anyone here who is irrational, it is people like you. Your entire self image seems to depend on your ability to pretend you are not one of the "other". It is pathetic but increasingly humorous.
He literally asks "do you want fries with that" for a living.
Ahem
Given that I already blamed the protesters and progressives for this and not Trump fans, this is pretty embarrassing.
I love how you call them dumbasses and see the real issue is that this might help Trump. God forbid you actually call them what they are, which is violent fascists there to deprive the other side of their right to assembly or worry about the effect of that. No, they were just a bunch of crazy kids and the real issue is that they helped Trump not that we have a no kidding national socialist complete with mobs.
You did exactly what I thought you would do; engage in false equivalency and tried to change the subject.
It seems to me that Irish is denouncing the mob as vigorously as you are, as lawless violators of free speech.
Mani is shaking his head now because he thinks you're positing too binary a division between good and evil.
You're fucking kidding me John.
Quote:
"Ugh. And just like the Trump supporters justifying violence by Trump fans, I now get to see lots of progs justifying shutting down Trump's free speech on the grounds that it's 'hate speech' and therefore 'not protected.'"
I specifically said they shut down Trump's free speech, which I strongly oppose. I think they're scumbags. I'm actually arguing with progs on Twitter *right now* because they're trying to justify this, which is where I heard people seriously arguing this wasn't protected speech because it was 'hate speech.'
I am currently defending Trump in another forum while mentioning on Reason that these people clearly attacked Trump's rights. The second post where I say they're idiots for giving Trump a bigger forum was just me mocking these dumbass protesters for destroying their own goal. They wanted to deny him free speech, and instead they got him on every news channel in the country.
The protesters are in the wrong here. So?
The protestors are the problem. And last I looked "just like..." was an equivalency. Trump supporters have to my knowledge never gone to a Bernie rally and broken it up or done anything like this. Yesterday you were shitting your pants over an old man throwing a punch at a political rally. Today there is a no shit riot started for the purpose of ending a political rally and what do you say? "Just like the Trump supporters justifying violence"
That is a false equivalency. I knew you would do it because you could never admit the left or really any one is worse than Trump.
Tomorrow someone will say something mean or push someone at a Trump rally and you will no doubt be on here saying "this is just like Chicago".
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHA
John, I've been more than fair to Trump. I've been criticizing Reason for all of the articles comparing him to Hitler. I especially mocked the ridiculous nonsense about Trump's supporters raising their hands and ZOMG IT KIND OF LOOKS LIKE A NAZI SALUTE!
My criticism of Trump is because he deserves to be criticized. When he doesn't deserve it, I don't criticize him.
Stop trying to pretend I don't criticize the left enough just because you're butthurt that talk shit about Saint Trump of the Golden Combover
Good for you. But you are being ridiculous here. You just are. The Bernie people really are awful and worse than anything going on with Trump or Hillary or Cruz or anyone else.
And if I have misrepresented views, welcome the club. You did the same thing to me yesterday
Poor John. Always the victim. You make a perfect Trump supporter, since you guys are basically just right-wing SJWs, what with your victim complexes and obsessive need to take offense.
Just because other people are bad doesn't make Trump any less a thug.
This is like in Germany, where you'd have socialists fighting with communists in the early 1930s
Because this time the commies (Sanders supporters) started it, doesn't make the nazis right.
most of the time, if not all of the time, the protesters are starting it, whatever it is. No one from the right is wading into Hillary or Bernie events to disrupt them; any such behavior is more like to stem from black lives people than anyone else. But at Trump rallies, you can count on people to make fools of themselves and a good many are there with the intent of provoking someone to do something stupid. The other night in NC, it worked and an old man punched a protester. But there is not an even an equivalence afoot here, let alone a false one.
Shut the fuck up Donny =D
Cue John's hackneyed Trump apologia.
Wow, my trolling may have been *too* effective.
John, seriously, get some perspective, maybe frolic through some flowerbeds, there really aren't a lot of pro-mob moral-equivalencizers here, there's just is a bit of skepticism toward Trump.
See Geoff above saying that the old man is worse than this. There is at least one such person here. And there are others, but Nikkis lives in Chicago and is likely doing her duty to the mob as we speak.
He quoted Trump himself endorsing, in principle, violence against opponents (carry them out on a stretcher). It was more than just one old man.
Uh, I hope that thing about Nikki doesn't mean how it sounds.
He quoted Trump telling people to do violence against protestors at his rallies. That is a complete degree of difference from sending mobs of people to disrupt the rallies of other people. The two things are not the same.
When Trump people start showing up at Hillary rallies and shutting them down, the two sides will be equivalent.
And I have no idea what Nikki is doing, but it wouldn't shock me if she were there.
Of course, uttering the *words* "carry them out on a stretcher" is not *in itself* as bad as actually committing riotious acts.
Of course, when the person uttering the words is a Presidential candidate purportedly elucidating his idea of good policy...you need to ask what he's going to do once he has state power in his hands, if he ever gets that far.
He's already told us: build a wall, freeze immigration, jack up tariffs, make America isolationist, ask the generals who to invade first, cut taxes, do nothing to fix Social Security, give illegal orders to his troops to kill innocents, shut down parts of the Internet, praise the cops and negotiate better deals than anyone else possibly could, restore Christmas and otherwise make a huge mess of everything.
You got us, John. I live in Chicago too, and I'm tweeting this from my Iphone as I personally beat a Trump fan to within an inch of his life.
I'll make sure to wave to Nicole if I see her and let her know you're thinking about her.
Please do. Go fight the power man. You have to show the white trash who is boss!!
At least take off the "Feel the Bern" t-shirt this time. You're making Trump look truthful.
The whole Chicago thing makes me think of this. On both sides.
""Government is delivering every day," he declared. "I could find the fiercest libertarian in the room?but they're checking the weather on their phone, and lo and behold, there's a government satellite out there that's facilitating that.""and
My favorite thing about nebulously liberal, pseudo-intellectual idiots like Obama is that they'll find something the government does that's *really, really cheap and unintrusive* and argue that because the government does that cheap, unintrusive thing, this justifies the existence of the all-encompassing leviathan that creates black markets through contraband laws, creates millions of criminals through legislating against victimless crimes, and bankrupts entire nations by implementing programs which cannot be paid for in the long term.
Sure the state is responsible for exploding tuition costs due to actively creating the college bubble and yeah some people get gunned down in the street by trigger happy police officers, but we also sent up some satellites that cost .0000003% of the Federal budget, so what are you libertarians complaining about?
And incidentally, I'd like to know how many satellites are up there because of Evil Capitalist America vs. Noble Socially Democratic Europe. Because I don't know how you can applaud some of the benefits of the US space program while trying to make us more like all the countries that are 40 years behind us in that regard.
If the private sector doesn't duplicate what the government has already done (and taxed the shit out of it for), it's hypocritical to use what you've already been taxed for.
Constitutional scholar and supergenius.
That's how it works: government "provides" a "service" that we may or may not want, prohibits competition (by claiming that said service is a "natural monopoly" or by regulating any private alternatives to death). Then, they point to the fact that we use that service as a justification for taking over more "services".
Exactly.
Aside from that trick... another really popular one is to pick something 'socially essential'.... like the ubiquitous "Roads & Schools!!"....
...and then try to use it to claim how we need more FEDERAL GOVT spending.
because they're completely ignorant of the fact that the only 'roads' the federal govt ever was needed for was the interstate highway system. and how public schools are funded w/ local property taxes.
IOW, they'll inadvertently make an argument for *less* federal taxes draining resources away from state/local government... and then try and claim its a slam dunk case for why we need more federal spending.
Speaking of government working and satellites...
Shame there was no libertarian in the room to ask about the NSA and the sharing of personal data with local law enforcement agency, anther government service that delivers every day.
Or to point out to the Nobel Peace Prize winning Constitutional Scholar that the libertarian objection to government is not based on whether government "works," but on government's all-too-effective intrusion into personal liberty.
But this is why Obama chooses his fora very, very carefully.
He skipped Nancy Reagan's funeral for this? Presidents should be required to attend every funeral for every notable person. Hopefully that would keep them busy most of the time.
Interesting that all of the satellites are built for the government by private companies. Launched by private companies, and designed by private companies. If the government wants to engage in aerospace engineer welfare, great.
"Did you know the Nazi government invented the jet engine? Send the Jews to the camps!!!" - prog-logic
Also, someone should point out to Obama that that libertarian using that government satellite probably paid in taxes the equivalent of 50X his share of the cost of building and maintaining that satellite. Surely, he'll get the rest of that refunded, right?
I also drive on government roadz. Which generally aren't that great.
The government has the same problem as socialism. Incentives don't matter, and prices don't exist. While it can always be better, it will always be shitty and that's why the government should do as little as possible.
Austin. SXSW. GOD DAMN LIBERALS! OBAMA BIRTH CERT!
Why do wingnuts get so bent out of shape about nothing?
^This. Not really. Just want you to feel included.
Palin's Buttplug|3.11.16 @ 9:41PM|#
"Why do wingnuts get so bent out of shape about nothing?"
Why do lefty assholes like turd show up and stink up the place?
He thinks he's farting in an echo chamber. Without PB we'd have NO disagreements here.
Abortion, what's the true Libertarian position? And... Go!
We oppose it because it denies us the tiny, child's hands that are necessary for floor work in our tanning factories.
Perfect!
Stop stealing my future chimney sweeps!
Damn it, stop saying we only like children because they can work in factories. It perpetuates an unfair stereotype of Libertarians. Children are also really useful in mines.
And those tiny hands are also ideal for polishing our monocles.
Have you paid up yet?
I haven't been around much lately and I was wondering.
You missed out then.
Proof, turd. You're too much of a proven liar to take your word about where the sun's coming up.
We wingnuts don't get bent out of shape over SXSW, we're just making fun of it. Just like we make fun of you.
People like us get bent out of shape because it's at these sort of 'casual' places we witness how vapid an intellectual fly weight he (and Trudeau) is. Fuck, did you read the shit he spewed? It's like he's still stuck in high school. Moreover, and worse, the morons in the media only seem interested in trying to foster an of image of him being a big thinker none of us comprehend.
We don't comprehend him alright. But not for reasons pimped out in the mainstream.
We've all met that person others swore to you to be soooo intelligent and amazing only to find out - after some snooping - their dumbasses who just know how to squirt cum in your eye to distract you.
A well timed shout of "You didn't build that!" would've been nice.
One of the things I'd see in the Army, and I assume is all over government jobs is people busting their ass to improve things without any idea what improvement is. There really are people that care, that want to make it better, but they rarely ask what "better" is.
People would write regulations, and spend months or years getting something implemented and then say "I've made his efficient, or safe, or mission ready." But they don't have a fucking clue, they assume it would be safer but there's no data, before or after. They think they do a great job but there's nothing to compare to because nobody else does it. Where there was any overlap in jobs, I would see civilians routinely do things in hours that took us days because of our "awesome" safety, or planning.
Outside of government bad decisions, inefficiency, and poor safety are punished with losses to competition. With the government it's not even that they do a shit job, it's that they don't even have a way to discern a shit job from a good one.
Also, if you're in govt and are actually being efficient, it could be that you are efficient at making people's lives miserable. Cops that are really good at locking up drug users or prostitutes comes to mind.
Which is the reason I asked Obo to stop the gummint from 'delivering every day'; we don't want what you're offering.
^^This^^
Thanks for the deep thoughts, Mises.
I already told you I worked for the government once, keep your expectations law.

Thanks for the deep thoughts, Mises.
This comment reads like sarcasm, yet I can't find anything objectionable in the OP.
I just assumed he found the OP's preference for the von Mises-Fiser distribution in clustering methods to be unacceptable. MJG is more of a kmeans sort of guy.
I recently spent more than 2 months trying to get a city office to give me a pay off amount on a $1700 lien. It took dozens of calls and emails and two in person visits to their offices, and in the end the only way I actually got anyone to even return my call was to send a certified letter copying a council member. All this to try to get them to tell me how much my clients needed to PAY them to clear the lien.
The lien, by the way was one of two placed against a 90 year old lady's house by a local NGO, for making the house 'energy efficient'. Always read the fine print when some charity comes to help you.
Of course.
Yes, but nobody else was able to get that information to you but the government. So if they hadn't given it to you then you wouldn't have got it from anyone else. Therefore they did a good job and provided a service nobody else does.
This is true. I had not realized how privileged I was.
Tell that old bag to go to hell for destroying the planet.

With everything in which the federal government has its hands, the best he can come up with is the NOAA. That itself is an indictment.
You didn't think he was gonna mention the NSA or TSA to that crowd, did you?

Because you KNOW he is lying
Racism drives the GOP. Trump is proof.
A sensible centrist like Obama is shouted down by the Ku Klux Klan GOP of today.
sensible centrist like Obama if Obama is a centrist who is a leftist? Mao?
Yes, you fucking idiot. Obama is a free trade deficit cutting (by 2/3) centrist who resists idiot wars (Don't do Stupid Shit).
Now fuck off.
Man, without Hihn posting I hadn't been called an idiot all night. I was feeling neglected. Thank you Buttplug. By the way, your hero resisted the heck out of Libya, which was a stupid war. Maybe you should name yourself Qaddafi's Buttbayonet.
who resists idiot wars (Don't do Stupid Shit)
DURR LIBYA NEVER HAPPENED CAUSE I SAID SO. DURR PATHETIC NARCISSISTIC ATTEMPTS AT THREATENING ASSAD NEVER HAPPENED.
I love how you think denying reality is a winning argument. Keep it up.
*Psssst* All that deficit cutting happened after Republicans seized control of the House, and thereby gained control of the purse strings.
Go check out what the deficit looks like over the last 30 years based on which party controls the House. I'll wait.
and he finally cut the deficit back to immediately pre TARP rates after running the total debt up to 100% of GDP.
"Yes, you fucking idiot. Obama is a free trade deficit cutting (by 2/3) centrist who resists idiot wars (Don't do Stupid Shit)."
Like Syria and Libya? Yeah he really did a bang up job of not getting involved in those wars and not facilitating ISIS's rise to power. You do realize as screwed up as W left the middle east this fuckwit made it much worse right?
Plus, Iraq and Afghanistan have gotten significantly worse under his watch
Translation: he wrecked the US economy to the point where Americans can't afford a lot of imports anymore.
Wow, you are just guzzling that Obama cum, aren't you? Does not invading Iran somehow make up for for Syria and Libya? Why not give George Bush a Nobel Prize for not invading Turkey while we're at it. And tax revenue is up, dispshit. Spending has gone up every year under him except 2011-2013 (thanks to those obstructionist congressmen), and over his tenure annual spending has gone up a trillion. Oh, but he's also collecting almost a trillion more in taxes, how centrist of him. Your idiocy is getting pretty trite buttblug. You'd call Lenin a centrist if he raised tax revenue more than the Tsar he replace.
I'm like 99% sure this is a parody of Palin's Buttplug because I don't remember him ever being this stupid.
You remain an idiot. Obama TPP eliminates 18,000 tariffs on US export goods.
The GOP (your party) asshole wants a 45% tax on imports.
EAT MY ASS, BIG GOV GOPer.
"The GOP (your party) asshole wants a 45% tax on imports."
LOL. I'm hoping you're the real Palin's Buttplug because in that case I've seriously gotten called a) an anti-Trump bigot and b) a pro-Trump GOP lover in the same thread.
Congratulations! Insult from a fool and all that
and (sorry I am new and its been driving me nuts) who is ESB?
Elizabeth Stoker Bruenig. She's a crazy left-wing writer who I joke about falling in love with because she's a total cutie who is made even more beautiful by her incipient madness. Then she got boring, so I broke up with her.
We also know for a fact she's read this comment section, so I always hope she'll see my comments and get super weirded out.
Oh, see, I never got that. I always thought you were in love with ENB. Pretty clueless of me. OTOH, that means that I can change my handle to DenverJ ? ENB
Oh man I should have restricted myself to the image search, I read some of her derp.
This is my favorite picture of her because it includes a quote from her husband saying property doesn't exist while she smiles contentedly, with the vacant glow of a lobotomy patient.
Has she ever commented on your former relationship?
She's sorry that it didn't work out, and hopes they can still be friends.
Is it okay I call her?

Oh, that's right, you "paid" by money order in the Alex Jones-level conspiracy theory belief that your credit card would be stolen by H&R commenters.
Buttplug, I understand that cocaine has probably completely destroyed your neocortex and that you're so profoundly insecure that the only way you can get even a small amount of self-esteem is elevating yourself above your imaginary strawman...
But seriously, have you ever stopped and thought "My god, I really am a massive piece of shit. Maybe I should actually try to improve myself rather than spending my time thinking I'm just inherently better then some people. Perhaps I should become a more mature and self-aware person." Maybe you'll even learn how the stock market works, so you don't get your ass handed to you in stupid bets with people on the internet.
"Maybe you'll even learn how the stock market works, so you don't get your ass handed to you in stupid bets with people on the internet."
But, John, we'd lose the amusement of turd first claiming he might yet win, and then having it pointed out that there's no recovery from a negative value and then watching him jump and shout and then finally watching him lie about paying off his bet.
Do you really wanna lose that?
Care to share any more of your sexual practices and preferences?
His name is buttplug, so that tells us something. He may guzzle the president's cum like there's no tomorrow, but he apparently also likes to eat Sarah Palin's shit.
My name is Donald Trump and I'm a BIG fan of Israel
I voted for Obama in 2008. Obama has turned out to be an incompetent blowhard. Anybody who is shouting him down is doing the country a favor.
sensible centrist
Wow.
No group are bigger racists than you and your progtarded friends.
Except Trump had to bring in independent and Dem voters to win the Repub nomination.
Yes, and the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 which essentially nationalized anything that left the atmosphere had nothing to do with preventing private space transport, you mendacious fuck.
Yeah, it's kind of like the people that say "if you're such an atheist than how come you use dollar bills that say "In God We Trust!"
Ha! I'm totally stealing this one
"The government can never regulate the one true currency."
"Hipness?"
"Smugness."
"You're right, The hyperinflation has begun."
I dunno it seems to me supply exceeds demand on smug
I mean, isn't that inflation? People are spending thousands of smug where one smug used to suffice.
Smugonomics, in bookstores this summer.
The funny -or sad- thing about the Ocare website was that there already were tons of websites out there that were set up specifically to help people buy health insurance. HHS literally could've JUST BOUGHT one of them, had it recoded, q&a'd and they would've had no problems.
Instead, as with most government operations they decided to build it from scratch from the ground up. And predictably it was a giant disaster.
When NASA flew the Apollo missions they bought the pieces from the private sector. Northrop Grumman built and tested the Lunar Module, for instance. Boeing built the Saturn V's first stage, North American the second stage, and McDonnell Douglas, the third.
Yet we are supposed to believe that the failure of HHS to build a freaking website has now made the government even better at makin' stuff on its own?
Can we really do worse than this guy?
YES WE CAN!!!
Almost no one cares about Obama-care - as I predicted.

"Almost no one cares about Obama-care - as I predicted."
Turd, what you mean is that most people are tired of griping about it and wish it would go away.
But to a lefty POS like you, honesty is HARD.
About 5?90% of the total population are effected by it, son.
FTFY. Besides the grammar, anyway.
Damn near everyone in this country now finds themselves in one of three categories:
1. Forced onto (shitty but "free") Medicaid
2. With much higher premiums and deductibles, yet lower coverage rates
3. With much higher premiums and deductibles, yet lower coverage rates, but "subsidized"
But do keep lying, moron.
You forgot the 50 percent cut in flex spending account maximums, and the Medicare surtaxes.
I didn't realize only 5% of the population files income tax returns.
Only 5% of the total population pays taxes?
And weren't you the one telling us that bill was God's Salvation come to earth not long ago?
I especially liked the fact that he says that the epic-scale of government failure inspired him to create an "Information Technology SWAT Team"
You know? SWAT Teams - those perfectly-run, never-fuck-up, never shoot unarmed people at 4AM or bust down the door of the wrong people's homes and execute dogs while executing warrants for nonviolent crimes. One of those! What could go wrong?
Beat me to it, GILMORE?.
Did you see Hillary's approach to the VA? "I would like to literally appoint a SWAT team to bring in people and just tackle the disability"
WTF is it with these two and their "SWAT Teams"?
I wonder why the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SWAT TEAM had so much trouble hacking an iPhone?
Unfortunately, they couldn't smash Apple's skull into the concrete while shouting "STOP RESISTING" like a regular old SWAT Team
"Information Technology SWAT Team"

Yep, who needs 23 brands of deodorant?
""Cost can also be a factor.""
...and then the article just skips entirely past any further consideration of that point.
G, that's the Chron.
The editorial staff will NOT question why those products are packed that way. The default presumption holds that companies have large amounts of money and spend it frivolously; like on packaging.
A good friend of mine was a wine-label designer (yes, it is a sub-specialty of graphic design); he was highly paid because he could both knock 'em out and deliver the graphic gestalt the winery wanted. Within reason, higher prices combined with 'classy' labels sells wine.
I'd bet not one on the editorial staff has the least understanding of the marketing value of packaging, except maybe the guys and gals in the marketing department of the Chron: They've finally figured out that RE features = clicks on the web page.
And lest anyone think I'm pitching a 'market failure', it is nothing of the sort.
People 'rationally' choose products even when that 'rational' choice includes 'rational ignorance' in that researching a feature costs more in time than paying a higher dollar price.
Further, there are plenty of examples of rational market selections for products in irrational activities; want high-end rock-climbing gear? Right here, says the oh-so-sincere eco-weenie rock climbing sales-guy, cum future rock-splatter.
Happiness (value) is not necessarily fact based. So even if we cannot tell the difference between brands in blind tests, and pay more to buy an identical product based on a pretty label, we are still acting to maximize value. The market works even when it 'fails'
(I realize I am just restating what you said)
"Happiness (value) is not necessarily fact based."
If it was, engineers would be farting through silk and baseball players would be riding buses instead of charter airplanes.
a wine-label designer (yes, it is a sub-specialty of graphic design)
I'd just call that plain ole graphic design. Is it specialized because of the curvature introduced by the bottle?
It's like graphic designer with extra sneering superiority

Ah, THAT explains why El Presidente thinks he can modify the law any time it becomes politically expedient to do so (or anytime it becomes politically toxic to apply the law as written).
He did it all by Himself. Je suis l'etat.
and lets talk about the website debacle that was embarrassing but no big deal. Not the massive increase in insurance premiums, the unsatisfactory (to the Plan, personally I think anything but catastrophic care coverage is a stupid sucker bet) number of us that have become insured, or the fact that Mr. Progressive implemented an annually increasing tax that ONLY affects people in the lower and middle income brackets.
TRUBAMA!
Nice little company you have there. Be a shame if....something happened to it.
A North Carolina man was arrested after video footage showed him punching an African-American protester being led out of a Trump rally in that state on Wednesday. At that event, Trump recalled a past protester as "a real bad dude."
AP. The dude being from North Carolina is more relevant than him being 79?
*Vigorously stirs trolling cauldron*
Trump went on to elaborate that he was also a bit of a "jive turkey" and a "triflin'-ass motherfucker".
But was he a bad enough dude to save the President?

Swedish police are telling women not to go out after dark as they'll be raped.
Going out after dark counts as affirmative consent hence not rape.
My, my. They actually are telling women to 'change their behaviors'?
How about you bozos man up and don't change fuck all and stop being a bunch of politically correct pussies?
Maybe the women should be accompanied by a male family member at all times to make sure they aren't raped.
And perhaps a head scarf and or veil so as not to be responsible for inciting men with their feminineness.
Now you're on the trolly. We should also deny driver's licenses to women. After all, unaccompanied women are bound to be raped wherever they go, so we need to make sure they can't go too far without a man present driving the car.
Damn it, I should have worked in a Rolling Stone Reference there. Hindsight is 20/20.
Yup.
I can imagine this in a decade:
Charlie Rose: How were you able to get the Swedes to embrace your oppression of women?
Mullahfuckah: We raped them into compliance.

In SF, we are blessed to have the 'assistance' of the "Friends of the Urban Forest".
Some 20 years ago, I happened to be not home when they knocked on doors and offered to plant trees in front of [your] home. At the time, I was kinda sorry about it.
20 years later, those who were home and accepted that generous offer have now replaced the sidewalks in front of their abode several times, and it turns out the Ficus the "FotUF" planted also has a propensity to shed large branches in wind storms.
But wait! There's MORE!
You have to appeal to the city bureaucracy to get rid of the damn things, and good luck!
The "FotUF" admits it wasn't the best choice of trees and says 'tough shit, pal.'
Nothing that a little herbicide, casually spilled onto its roots, couldn't fix...
In Montana it is "shoot, shovel, and shut up". In SF is it "sneak, silence, and Round Up tm"?
The City very nearly almost bankrupted my parents over some rotted eucalyptus trees that they would not let them cut. They stalled for years to give them the permit to cut them so they could build. It didn't help that there were some voval neighbors down the street, one who was a lawyer.
Fucking Vovols! They should go back to Vovo where they belong!
Vova I mean! They're so stupid they made me misspell their name there!
Damn vovals.
Former proggy mayor Agnos lives over on Connecticut St, where it levels off at the top of the hill. He was a one-term mayor, claiming fame for pretty much doing nothing after the '89 quake, but is presumed to be one-term since he allowed 'Camp Agnos' to exist; the bums 'occupation' of the park across Polk from City Hall.
Why is this of interest? 'Cause the owner of the building at Connecticut and 20th had the damn Ficus removed one Sunday and Agnos screamed!
AFAICT, the owner may have paid a fine (the guys in the Deli aren't sure), but I see no new trees in there. Sorta like the 'shoot, shovel and shut up', or more like the 'easier to apologize than ask permission'. Having watched what he did and what my neighbor went through, it'd be gone on a Sunday if it were mine.
Let me fix that for Obama by adding the bits he was mumbling under his breath:
Obumbles gives a shout out to libertarians!
That weather website, you didn't build it.

Go play golf Barry and keep your fucking mouth shut.
Sounds like an abusive partner. "I know I really screwed up. I was drunk. I'm sorry. It won't happen again. You can trust me."
The citizenry are just like abuse victims. Too scared to end the relationship and living for those moments of normalcy in between the violent beatdowns.
Now understand this entire electoral filed!
"Government is delivering every day," he declared. "I could find the fiercest libertarian in the room?
Yeah, Barack Obama is always in a room with a hardcore libertarian.
"I could find the fiercest libertarian in the room?but they're checking the weather on their phone, and lo and behold, there's a government satellite out there that's facilitating that."
Yes, because pointing out something that the government currently does proves beyond a doubt that this thing would never, ever be done without the government. /sarc
Also, I bet that there were at least a few dozen private companies that contracted with the government to build that satellite, so why doesn't he give them any credit?
They didn't build that. Someone else made that happen
They didn't build that, Obama did, with his own hands! Those companies were just evil corporations getting money from the government for no reason at all.
That's just BHO's elegant way of screaming "ROADZZZ!!!"
"I could find the fiercest libertarian in the room?"
It will be a big mistake if progressives start engaging libertarians in public debate. They are getting much better results by shutting us out and not acknowledging we exist.
Sounds like some pretty serious buisiness.
http://www.Anon-Net.tk
I work for the State Government. Not because I'm so supportive of it, but it's the best job going in this area. I took a test and scored a 96 percent. It wasn't enough to beat the competing Vet, who got a 10 point advantage for his status, but fortunately he didn't want to make the drive. The job was mine.
I went in there with a private sector attitude and some things definitely rubbed me the wrong way, nepotism, long breaks, long on answers. But after 10 years here I can tell you truthfully the work that gets done is quality.
Do I think all Government offices are like that? No. But I can't say that all private sector companies produce as well either. Especially in this Pennsyltucky neck of the woods.
The private sector fails miserably at making employees feel valued in any way and Government overcompensates.
In a right to work state how can you really believe that any company owner will care about employees? I've been in the Engineeeing Design field 33 years - In Texas, California , Illinois & Pennsylvania, pretty much every demographic region. I've seen the Private Sector fail miserably in comparison to Government. As a Libertarian I have to ask myself WHY?
You shouldn't go to work to have your employer "care" about you, you should go to trade your time and talent for compensation. If your compensation is low, that is either because you chose a bad company, or because you are a bad employee. In either case, the problem lies on your side: low self-valuation, which keeps you at a bad company when you should leave, or poor performance, in which case you ought to zip your lip, while it lasts.
None of that applies in your state job, since there, the operating budget is taken at the point of a gun. It is not that good work can't be done in such a situation, but there is simply no reason why it should be, and regardless of your claims, that is what generally bears out in my experience, and I'd guess, in the experiences of many others.
Try being self-employed sometime, and see how ridiculous this comment about an employer "caring" about you sounds; try complaining to your customers that they aren't making you "feel valued." You will learn that there is only one language for communicating value: willingness to trade. If people are willing to pay what you ask, then they value what you are offering. And sometimes, people will simultaneously show they value the work by continuing to demand it, while at the same time belly-aching like illiterate fifth-graders; but the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
What part of state government do you work in? I'd love to hear how the citizens you "serve" feel. If you're in one of those sections where it's largely handing out grants and providing free stuff, then yeah, sure, people are happy. Everybody loves free stuff. If it's one of those sections where the government actually has to do anything, or is involved in enforcement, I'd wager the satisfaction is much lower.
After I been earnin $8768 this-past/five weeks and-a little over, $10k lass-month. it's realy my favourite work I have ever had. I actually started 7-months ago and pretty much straight away was earning at least $87... p/h. I follow

According to the Worthless One, unless you sprang full blown from your own head, created the earth and all the life upon it, then you "didn't build that".
How about the truth. If no one created the wealth that the government confiscated there would be government at all, much less the source of all goodness that Obama attributes to government. Try putting up a "government satellite" without first stealing money to hire all those people who "didn't build that" to build that.
Ass clown Barry, end your racist war on drugs you fuckhead.
