Brickbat: Mississippi Goddam

Jackson, Mississippi, City Council member Kenneth Stokes is calling for an investigation of a local gun dealer who posted a sign saying that people who vote for Stokes or President Barack Obama are too stupid to own a gun. "If this gun dealer feels that it's legal for him to display negative images of the president of the United States, keep in mind that he must have some kind of license," Stokes said. "We're asking the attorney general of the United States to do an investigation and let's see whether the rules and regulations have been violated."

So,he wants a blasphemy investigation for Insulting the one?
Dafuq? Maybe he thinks the US has some laws prohibiting L?se majest? like they do in Thailand? I wonder how he missed all the vitrol that gets flinged at most (R) party presidents?
And Turkey.
IIRC, Reason covered the number of places that threatened Chik-Fil-A's licensing and Donald Trump's permitting over outrage at things they'd said, with an emphasis on the "normalcy" of expecting that civil servants should not be just neutrally enforcing the law when there's bigots to be punished. Of course, between the growing number of protected classes and the growing regulatory licensing state, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see in 20 years to see laws enforcing just this sort of thing- the privilege of holding a license is predicated on it serving the public interest and by getting a license you're implicitly agreeing to restrictions on your free speech rights just as currently you're implicitly giving up your freedom of association. You can't refuse to serve black customers, what's the problem with being told you can't talk bad about them, too, if you want a license? And you're going to need a license to get out of bed and go to work in the morning. You're selling your labor to your employer aren't you? You're engaged in commerce.
Yup. IF waiving your due process rights is the price of the "privilege" of driving on the roads, why shouldn't waiving your free expression rights be the price of the "privilege" of owning a business?
Remember; anything that requires a license is a privilege, by definition.
"Is you is, or is you ain't, my constituency?"
Stands and claps.
"Homer Stokes, servant a the little man! Ain't that right, little fella?"
"This band of mistreants this very evening interfered with a lynch mob in the performance of its duty!"
"These boys is not white! These boys is not white! Hell, they ain't even old timey!"
It's Mississippi, they're probably related.
The New York Post is reporting that the Obama administration is shaking down banks over auto loans using its regulatory power as leverage to extort hundreds of millions of dollars. This even though they know their case is bullshit. So maybe not too far-fetched that Mr. Councilman thinks that he might be able to use the regulatory power of the government to silence his political enemies.
I thought the IRS handled terrorizing political enemies.
That's the trouble with the federal bureaucracy - dozens of departments, all doing the same thing.
Well done.
I'm still waiting for the big thumbs-up Obama salesmen of the year signs
Make you wonder about his investments.
Looks like the gun dealer is right on the money.
Kenneth Stokes proved him right.
You give up your first amendment rights when you're licensed for your second amendment rights. It's only fair. No one needs ten rights when there are starving children.
Nobody needs a a high-capacity bill of rights.
semi-auto?
Assault rights. Because they're scary looking.
Which right has the thing that goes up?
