Gun Control

The Disturbing End of San Francisco's Last Gun Shop

High Bridge Arms, founded in the mid-1950s by Olympic shooter Bob Chow, shuts down rather than give local police its customer list.

|

Over the weekend, San Francisco will lose its last gun store: High Bridge Arms.

Why? The city has mandated that gun shops hand over information about its customers to the cops.

"Just the idea of giving that information willingly to the police department, for no real reason, seemed very unreasonable to me." says Steven Alcairo, the general manager of High Bridge Arms. Alcairo notes that the store already complies with all federal and state reporting requirements.

Mark Farrell, a member of San Francisco's Board of Supervisors, was behind the local ordinance. The ordinance places new requirements on gun shops like High Bridge Arms, such as videotaping everything that happens in their stores and providing the San Francisco Police Department with weekly updates on customers and purchases.

"I would never introduce legislation to hurt a small business in our city," Farrell told the local NBC affiliate. "However, if a gun store in particular wants to close as a result of it, so be it."

High Bridge Arms' website says the shop was opened in 1952 by the renowned Olympic shooter Bob Chow. It was later bought by Andy Takahashi in the late 1980s. It was Takahashi who made the decision to close the doors.

"You know, I think I would like it if San Franciscans would just kinda take a look at this," says Alcario. "We decriminalized medical marijuana, we pioneered equal rights. But in the same town you're gearing laws specifically to make it hard on me,"

    1. God damn. The bottom of that list.

        1. My city is ranked #1164! California is the gift that keeps on giving.

          1. 179.

But now I know the whole thing is bullshit.

    2. Argh – just a brief glance tells me they’re comparing apples and oranges.

The first place my eyes landed on was “Fewest Restaurants per Capita”. Two of them (Irondequoit and Brighton) are residential suburbs of Rochester. The towns on the other side (“Most”) are honest-to-god small towns. There is no comparison.

      1. Yeah number two is Littleton, Co, which may technically have s small population, but it’s right in the middle le of the Denver metro area.

        1. White Plains is on the list, which is not small at all.

Then again, my ‘hood is representing at 1158, hells yeah.

          1. I work between white trash and a garbage incinerator, but I share a county with #84. Put’s on monocle, mutters “Peasants.”

        2. Most city or town comparisons are shit because they use city boundaries the definition of which varies hugely around the country. For example Buffalo’s boundaries were fixed in 1853 while cities out west expand all the time even today. The only realistic comparisons are by metro area.

  1. I posted the link below several months ago. So-called second-hand ordinances have the potential to destroy many businesses. June’s SCOTUS decision (LA vs Patel) should be relevant.

    http://amestrib.com/news/secon…..ry-closure

  2. I don’t know how any serious person could object to this. It’s just sensible, common-sense gun control. Besides, there really is no constitutional right to own a gun; that’s a myth created very recently by highly ideological judges.

If you disagree, you have a small penis.

    1. +1 well regulated militia

    2. “”If you disagree, you have a small penis.””

This is a very funny summary of many proggy arguments

I thought it was especially amusing when ..in the push for 2013 gun regs? they decided that the new tactic to try and “change gun owners minds” was to “mock and shame them”. Alinsky Rule #5. This was actually the subject of some progosphere Memo where they announced it as a ‘new tactic’ to employ. (as though it were ‘new’ at all)

What followed was a slew of articles suggesting that Gun People have Small Dicks. It appeared all over the place for the first half of 2013

What they apparently never noticed was that the “gun people” had been mocking them for 40 years and never cared a hoot in hell what these people thought was “cool”. Conor Friedersdorf pointed out the obvious about a year later…

“…after Newtown, many gun-control advocates tried to shame rather than persuade, as if the “correct” position was obvious to everyone save retrograde idiots. On guns, that strategy has never worked.””

    3. If you disagree, you have a small penis.

I can prove otherwise, just in case anyone is interested. And when I say anyone, I mean anyone.

      JUST LOOK AT IT, DAMNIT.

      1. Put up, or shut up, Crusty. 3/4 chub or GTFO

          1. Already getting stage fright? It’s not that cold out.

            1. I am “old school” and only send Polaroids via the U.S. Postal Service. I feel it adds significance, as well as a touch of panache that is sorely lacking with you Millenials.

      2. I own guns and I don’t have a penis at all, so I guess that technically qualifies as very small.

    1. And on the patrol car the bumper sticker says “Drug searches – because in America, bacon smells *you!*”

    2. I like that cops sense of humor. Seems like something my dad would do if he wasn’t worried about some of his parolees following him home (he works sex offenders, so he gets lovely crazies like the 70 year old that raped his 1 year old granddaughter and claimed they were in love).

  3. “I would never introduce legislation to hurt a small business in our city,” Farrell told the local NBC affiliate. “However, if a gun store in particular wants to close as a result of it, so be it.”

    Riiiiiiiiiight…

    1. Well, there was only one single gun store in SF that objected to the legislation so I guess Farrell might have a point there.

      1. When there is only one gun store in the city, you know damn well that the regulatory environment has chased all others away, and you pass a law that makes them into criminals unless they change their business practices (which were always, and remain, perfectly respectable) aren’t you at least mocking the constitutional prohibition on bills of attainder? This case seems ripe for a lawsuit. I just wish that the owner had continued in business but not complied with the onerous new regulations. I suppose his voluntary decision to quit the business deprives him of standing to sue.

  4. Time for California gun shops to respond in kind, banning any sales to law enforcement whose jurisdiction includes San Francisco.

    1. That’s among the dumbest things you’ve ever written, which is a lot.

      1. It must be really hard for him to be a virgin, especially during the holidays.

        1. The single moms try to reunite with the dads around the holidays. Not even the bottom of the barrel is available.

          1. “If only I could afford a Ford Focus.”

      2. Do you know how to do anything other than comment despairingly of others?

  5. Watching them interview these San Fran fucks on the news makes me sick (I’m from San Jose and have to deal with them all the time). Things like: I don’t think we should have a gun store here so I’m glad it’s gone.

Well fuck you. So people don’t get to decide if the business is worthy (you know, if people don’t go there they will go out of business), YOU DO! What an authoritarian piece of work

  6. This is precisely why I think we should ditch the 2nd amendment. I used to live in the Mission in SF and if you were to poll the residents of my neighborhood whether they wanted a gun shop down the street from them the results would have been very lopsided. Why shouldn’t local communities–within reason– be able to enact zoning laws and local ordinances that reflect the interests and desires of the residents that live there? If people in Shreveport, Louisiana desire the freedom for their high-schoolers to conceal carry in trigonometry classes– well, more power to them. Let a hundred flowers bloom, I say.

    1. I totally agree with you.

If a local community wants to allow slavery, shouldn’t they be able to enact zoning laws and local ordinances that reflect the interests and desires of the residents that live there?

If people in Berkeley, CA desire slavery– well, more power to them. Let a hundred flowers bloom, I say.

      1. Hmmm, yeah maybe. Do you think you could get support for allowing slavery in Berkeley? Berkeleyites are a permissive bunch so who knows? Maybe some Dom-Sub thing would work.

In all seriousness though, I bet I could get a sizable minority of people in Shreveport to agree with me that arming teenagers is a good strategy towards combating gun deaths. That’s how screwy the discussion of gun politics in this country has become.

        1. Just admit it: you want to repeal the second amendment because of your well known racism.

Can’t let the blacks and Asians get their hands on guns, right?

          Racist.

          1. What if Black people don’t want those guns in their communities? I suppose its more important for our Black inner city communities to be lectured to by White nationalists about the necessity of the 2nd amendment and it’s upcoming War With Obama The Dictator in the middle of episodic instances of horrible gun violence

            http://www.naacp.org/action-al…..n-violence

Where did I say anything about people not being able to buy a gun?

            1. Oh, don’t try weaseling out of your racism, you dirty racist.

Why should I listen to the arguments of a racist?

I might as well listen to arguments about how awesome slavery was.

              1. God. I come here to have a nice debate about lowering defense spending and the only thing right-wingers can do is pull the race card. Pathetic. You are a loser.

                1. “I come here to have a nice debate about lowering defense spending”

Then why did you open with “This is precisely why I think we should ditch the 2nd amendment?”

Is there some knowledge I lack that would help me to see the connection between these two things?

                2. I’m not a racist, and you still are.

                  Racist.

                3. Let’s play pretend: I’ll be a right winger, and you be someone who’s not racist.

                  1. You’re like the king of PC, Brian. You just want to shut down debate by calling people inflammatory names. That’s boring. I’m bored.

                    1. Tulpa is bored, everyone! That can only mean he’s either going to sock more or just go back and lube up the cucumber.

                    2. Neither. I’m shopping for black-eyed peas. See you soon.

                    3. You’re bored because you were caught being racist.

And by the definitions of your own race card playing politics, this makes you automatically wrong, no matter what you say. And you can’t say or do anything about it. Because you’re an evil racist, so you’re automatically wrongheaded and suspected of vile motives. And since you can no longer say and do anything about that, it’s boring. And all you can do is whine over your own political standards. That is boring.

Sorry, but it’s really not my fault you’re a vile racist. Maybe next time you have something racist to say, you should just keep your mouth shut.

It’s probably too late for Am Soc, but maybe you could choose a new handle, one not associated with racism, and try to start over, anew.

                      Stupid racist.

                    4. AmSoc, are you too dense to see what Brian is doing to you?

                    5. It’s the new troll: they come to get idiologically butt hurt, not to give it.

                    6. I don’t think this is Tulpa. Tulpa, or Rooster, or Rollo, or whatever the fuck he goes by posts with a very specific voice. He’s always spotted within two posts. No way he’s so stupid as to try to post under a new sock and fail on the one hand and then turn right around and put on this too clever by half gadfly voice.

Besides, amsoc doesn’t fight for the last word in a thread the way Tulpa does. No dead thread is safe from that corpse fucker. No, amsoc is an entirely different wad of fuck than Tulpa.

                    7. but let’s just be honest: people don’t like Obama because he’s black, right?

You’ve never said anything like that, you silly racist.

You were saying something about “pathetic” “race card” playing?

                      Racist.

                    8. “People don’t like Obama because he’s black”

Hi Brian, I’m back from the store and made my meal. It didn’t work out as well as I hoped.

I’ve always said that *some* White people didn’t like Obama because he’s Black and that’s the reason why *some* White people didn’t vote for him. To me that’s self-evident. You might say there are good and bad Whites.

                    9. Some whites are racist, like you.

                    10. Does this have something to do with when I called Cliven Bundy a racist? You sure are the sensitive type.

                    11. It’s the part where you said that no real Asian salon owners could ever make protest signs using proper English.

Some whites are bad racist whites, like you.

                    12. No, I said that it’s unusual that *all* Chinese salon owners at this AstroTurf protest in front of the nytimes use such proper English. I found that suspicious. Right-wingers sure are sensitive.

                    13. Yeah, because you just know that Asians generally can’t use proper English. They’re just inherently inferior in that way, to you.

                      Pure racism, straight up.

                    14. No… I just don’t think that a person who recently immigrated to the United States or who didn’t use English as their first language would have such command of the English language. Therefore, I probably think they were either paid to be there or were coached by some Chamber of Commerce douchebag.

Ever travel to Asia, Brian? Do you think that anyone pointing out a grammatical error made by a person on the streets of Hanoi is racist? God, you are such a politically correct prig asshole. Your butt must smell like roses and bleach.

                    15. Yeah, I get it: you’re a racist, and you look at asians and assume they’re immigrants and assume that they can’t use proper English.

You’re just being racist over and over again, acting as if you just figure out how to be racist in the right way, it will stop being racism.

Sorry, you’re still a vile racist.

                    16. Ok, is that it, prig asshole?

                    17. Pretty much, vile racist.

                    18. Lacist, who knew.

                    19. I probably think they were either paid to be there or were coached by some Chamber of Commerce douchebag.

It’s not like they could find someone to write the English for them. In the United States.

I had a laugh reading this exchange. Don’t change a thing, you.

                    20. Tl;dr

I’m sorry, but other astoturf protests aren’t really relevant to your vile racism.

                    21. BTW, this is what everyone says about protests they don’t like: accusations of astoturf, whether or not they have any merit. My protesters are always pure as driven snow, but each of yours is a paid lackey. Because the good, descent people could never disagree with me, unless their motives are unpure.

Your baseless AstroTurf charge is extra slutty because it’s based solely on your own condescending racism towards minorities.

Do you have any evidence that people were drafted or paid to protest? No. You’re just a racist, and your suspicious of any large number of Asians who use correct English.

It would suprise you to find out that Asians can read and write, too. If you could give them any credit.

                      Racist.

        2. That’s how screwy the discussion of gun politics in this country has become.

I love it when people who have approximately zero experience with guns try to tell the rest of us about how wrong we are about guns.

          1. Speaking of which, I had to bail on the annual shooting trip to the desert with my buddies tomorrow. Mrs. Manhattan just had surgery, so I’m holding down the fort alone.

Shame. I have a new toy that I’m itching to use, but it’s not gonna happen anytime soon.

        3. I went to high school in California in the early 1970s. We had a gun club at our school and many of our students were armed (though they kept their firearms stored, usually in their cars or pickup trucks, during the school day). As it happened, the fact that these kids were armed neither caused nor enabled any gun violence at the school. I am not afraid of arming teenagers as teenagers. I am afraid of arming teenagers who haven’t been properly taught to use and respect firearms. Back when I was in high school, I’ll bet the teenagers in Shreveport (where I visited more recently) could have handled the responsibility as well as my own schoolmates. Today, however, I’ll bet that my old high school has scuttled the gun club, has a zero tolerance policy, and deals with many students who couldn’t live up to the old standard, as is probably also the case in Shreveport. It isn’t the guns, folks, or the spread of “bad seed” in the population. I am convinced that it is the upbringing our kids get (or do not get) — the mental and emotional tools we give them and the expectations we have of them — which makes the difference today.

          1. It isn’t the guns, folks, or the spread of “bad seed” in the population. I am convinced that it is the upbringing our kids get (or do not get) — the mental and emotional tools we give them and the expectations we have of them — which makes the difference today.

There was once a time when children were sufficiently equipped with mental and emotional tools by the age of 13 or 14 that they were considered adults. Granted, our society values much different characteristics for adulthood than those societies did, but still…

      2. –within reason–

This is key. Since ‘within reason’ is completely subjective, there must be someone in charge to determine what exactly is within reason. Which is where am soc and his buddies come in. We common folks just can’t be trusted with what is ‘within reason’, so our betters must tell us what to think and when to think it.

btw, good job mocking that fool.

        1. The absurd comparison is to invoke slavery and abortion and then compare them to the ability of crazy people to buy an automatic pistol. Yeah, I know, some people can’t see any area in which the government can intervene so I say, why try. Lead smelters next to kindergartens for everyone!

          1. This is why i’m sure amsoc is not a proper troll. He’s just bone-stupid. he actually thinks that makes sense.

            1. Hey Gilmore, you should talk to some of your friends here. They think restrictions designed to prevent crazy people and anti-government nut cases from getting guns is like making people work involuntarily in cotton fields. They’re smart– like you, bro.

              1. I know it doesn’t rise to the level of horror of nail salon working conditions, but we can’t all think like NYC slime balls.

                1. Are you ok? You seem lost here.

                    1. I get it. Thanks for clearing that up.

              2. “shall not be infringed”

If those are just words on a page, so are “equal protection under the law”

              3. “”anti-government nut cases””

See how incredibly stupid it is?

                “american socialist|2015/11/07 16:35:30|#5696963

I’m just saying that I think the American government– responsible for the deaths of millions over the last 50 years and currently the caretakers for thousands of nuclear weapons– sucks. “

it flails like a pre-teen and can’t even keep its bullshit arguments straight.

proper trolls at least know what they’re doing. he’s too stupid to string a few sentences together without blowing himself up.

                1. “deaths of millions over the last 50 years and currently the caretakers for thousands of nuclear weapons– sucks.”

The American government wasn’t responsible for millions of deaths in Vietnam, Iraq and in its interventions in Central America? I thought Reason.com was a clearinghouse for people who had doubts about the role and extent of government?

                  1. I think what you missed was the “anti-government nut” angle.

You being an anti-government nut. And believing that the country needs to be saved from anti-government nuts.

                    Get it?

                    1. “Get it?”

No, I guess not. I didn’t think recognizing that the u.s. Government has engaged in various illegal and unscrupulous wars over the last 50 years was being an anti-government nutcase. Every person in this country spends roughly $2,000 on military spending and, as a libertarian, I have a problem with that. You don’t?

                    2. “Every person in this country spends roughly $2,000 on military spending and, as a libertarian, I have a problem with that. You don’t?”

I’m not a Libertarian, but I have huge problem with that. Always have, going all the way back to the Reagan years. During the Carter years I was too obsessed with Star Wars to be paying attention.

What people are pointing to is your assertion of how important it is to keep the guns out of the hands of “anti-government nuts” and then turning around and ranting about the evils of the government.

I don’t suppose that recognizing terrible things a government has done necessarily makes you *anti* government, but the question several have asked is:

If you think the government is so evil, why do you want to give it more power?

                    3. “As a libertarian”
You’re getting sloppy, Tulpa. You need to make absolutely sure of the handle you’re socking with you fucking nitwit. Unless you’re going to claim that the amsoc persona has been a libertarian all along. Damn, dude, at least *try* and get a hooker you aspy fuck.

                    4. AmSoc has been peddling the “I’m just a libertarian” line for awhile now. He engages in the old leftist tactic of appropriating words like “liberal” and incorporating them into the leftwing lexicon.

                    5. It’s tulpa. Full stop.

              4. Bullshit. The restrictions you speak of won’t do a damn thing to prevent either of those (incredibly small) groups from obtaining weapons. You labor under the delusion (or perhaps the mental deficiency) that the stated intent of a policy is what it actually does.

By the way, the stated intent of the enslavement of Africans was that it would culturally uplift those peoples who needed “civilizing” and would make their lives better. Results, not intentions, are what matter so what your oppressive philosophy (which you haven’t bothered to think through, clearly) is designed to do doesn’t matter. It’s what it does that matters and what it does is grind people underneath its heel.

          2. Yes, the slavery comparison was stupid, but the “lead smelter next to a kindergarten” comparison was genius.

My rights are mine, not up for a vote.

You are welcome, though, to give up all of your guns, National Socialist.

          3. Automatic pistols are hard to control. What you want is referred to as a machine gun.

            1. Probably a submachine gun.

      3. Federalism is just dog whistle racism.

Am doc wants state by state gun control with no limitations.

        It makes sense.

    2. This is precisely why I think we should ditch the 2nd amendment.

If only the president would sign an executive order eliminating the 2A.

      1. If only. The ensuing impeachment would be glorious to behold.

    3. be able to enact zoning laws and local ordinances that reflect the interests and desires of the residents that live there?

Kind of like how gay marriage got creamed in almost every local district when put up to a vote of the people?

      1. Those are the bad kind of interests and desires and the federal government should park a tank on their heads.

      2. “Well, I mean, people should have a say and enact rules based upon my correct beliefs” -amsoc

    4. Why shouldn’t local communities–within reason– be able to enact zoning laws and local ordinances that reflect the interests and desires of the residents that live there?

      Wow. Really makes you think.

      1. It really did. Now I support slavery.

    5. well, more power to them. Let a hundred flowers bloom, I say.

Oh shit, I just realized you’re a troll. Fuck now I feel dirty.

      Well played.

      1. His name gives him away.

        1. Yeah, sometimes. I mean you get on DailyKos or the Seattle Times and a lot of people are LiberalInSeattle or ProgressiveDan.

          And they’re deadly serious.

But when you make an open plea for people to reveal themselves and their preferences so they can be sent to a gulag and or executed… then I know you’re not for real.

    6. Individual properties are an even smaller jurisdiction, if the owners of that property want a gun shop, let them decide.. Hundreds? Let 300 million flowers bloom.

      1. No! Only hundreds! To be tightly regimented and organized according to higher principles of perfect, reasonable diversity!

    7. Abortion

      1. Yes. The consumptive whore that crapped this retard out should have gotten an abortion rather than afflict the world with another dumbass troll.

Or people could stop feeding him.

        1. You know that’s not going to happen. Look what happened earlier today.

          1. Maybe you would understand if we had comparable cultures.

        2. “Dumbass troll”

Is this an example of the empathy with which we are to employ against those who disagree with us? I’m a libertarian who hates war, the drug war, military spending, goose-stepping morons in the military, Jeebus-freaks, and culture warriors. I’d hate to see how you argue with a religulous conservative neocons.

          1. “I’d hate to see how you argue with a religulous conservative neocons”

Didn’t you see the John thread earlier?

          2. Cool story, bro. Tell us another. So fascinated.

            1. I’m just saying that I think the American government– responsible for the deaths of millions over the last 50 years and currently the caretakers for thousands of nuclear weapons– sucks. What are you trying to say?

              1. Cool story, bro. Tell us another. So fascinated.

              2. I don’t think you have any idea what you’re saying. Reading your posts is very much like watching a landed fish flail about.

And if the American government sucks so much, why are you continually advocating for policies that give it more power? I’m pretty sure if you really believe what you’re writing you’re either incredibly self unaware or mentally ill.

The libertarian philosophy in terms of government is pretty easy to understand. Government exists to protect our rights, the nature of which flow directly from self ownership. It does not exist for any other reason and employing it for other reasons is tyranny. Is that simple enough so that you understand what we’re trying to say now?

          3. And loves welfare, graduated income taxation, speech control, and confiscation of private property which makes you a socialist and not a libertarian.

        3. “Or people could stop feeding him.”

See – me, I come here explicitly to feed trolls. This is why I was against registration. IMO, this place was a lot more fun when it was chock full of crazy trolls. Now it’s mostly just people who largely agree with each other either patting each other on the back or nitpicking fine distinctions among different brands of libertarian.

I miss the Mary Stack rage storms and the regular Tulpa piss-fests. They keeps one’s skills honed.

          1. Thanks, man. You’re one of the open-minded ones. I consider my role here to be one of stress relief. Namely, I like to remind people here that Obama and the Feds probably aren’t monitoring chat boards at right-wing sites.

            1. “. I consider my role here to be one of stress relief. “

Like a loud and prolonged intellectual-fart.

            2. And yet reason was ordered to turn over information on commenters.

              1. remember when Amsoc suggested blowing up civil-war monuments? That was one of my favorites.

                1. Hah, yeah, that was pretty cool. I remember you wanted to report me to the police when you were bitching about the Feds investigating the death threats that were made here.

                  1. To whom are you speaking? If you are referring to me I never suggested reporting you to the police and I defy you to find anywhere that I did. Personally I believe you to be far too stupid to pose a threat to anyone as I’m pretty sure you’d be likely to blow yourself up rather than your intended target.

                    1. Ah I see now. Clearly you were too dumb to realize Gilmore’s sarcasm when you saw it.

                    2. Re: Contrarian

Relax… I wasn’t referring to you. I’m a peace, love and understanding libertarian so I’m not for blowing anything up. I think reverence for Confederate war monuments is untoward. You?

                    3. You aren’t a libertarian. Socialism and libertarianism are completely incompatible. That’s like having “American Nazi” as your handle and claiming to be a lover of Jews.

I don’t care one way or the other what someone thinks about Confederate war monuments. My own opinion is that the Civil War ended over 150 years ago and has absolutely nothing to do with my life at this point. You might as well ask me what I think about people who venerate William the Conqueror. They are free to do what they like. I disagree with tax money going to the erection and upkeep of monuments (no matter to whom), but if groups of private citizens want to spend their own money on stone sculptures or fly the stars and bars, fine. As long as they leave everyone else alone.

The question of what I think about the Confederacy is not the same, by the way. Just before you try to conflate the two.

                    4. Contrarian P|11.7.15 @ 5:35PM|#
“…That’s like having “American Nazi” as your handle and claiming to be a lover of Jews.”

Commie kid’s doing OK; Stalin (one of his heroes) had a good hate for the jooooze.

                  2. I never expected you to appreciate the irony. You must have had someone explain that to you.

          2. “Now it’s mostly just people who largely agree with each other”

….in a range somewhere between John saying anyone doubting an Islamic Takeover of Europe is in denial and complicit with the dissolution of Western Civilization….

…and everyone else moaning about Hit & Runplicanbaggerhadists who dare to suggest that any GOP candidate might represent potential for incremental improvements in fiscal governance…

…yeah, its all one big hugfest.

            1. Hey! I should fake a story about stabbing you for an insult like that!

              1. insult? why that wasn’t an insult. it was clearly ad-hominini, directed at a theoretical disparate group of people.

Also = is ben carson going to have to stab a bitch? best buckle your big boy pants on, Suge Carson aint no motherfuckin joke.

                1. And — for the record — I’d gladly vote for Rand Paul. Two or three times if I lived in Chicago, in fact.

                  1. OMG SEE THEY’RE ALL HITLERTHUGLICANS

            2. Yeah, the only credible libertarian option is some idea in between those obviously discredited choices

              1. I have to admit, I admire your effort in sounding this stupid. It really must be hard work to read this site and still have absolutely no idea what libertarians advocate.

              2. Thanks for clearing that up for us.

            3. “yeah, its all one big hugfest”

There is still disagreement, no doubt, but citing the gap between a libertarian leaning Republican who won’t go all the way to open borders and those who strongly dislike establishment Republicans doesn’t exactly bespeak a wide ideological spread.

And my complaint is really only semi-serious. There are still good debates to be had here, and the wackos could clutter things a bit, but now that it takes effort and you can’t just stop by, assume a handle and join the fray, we really don’t have that many good trolls anymore.

But then, I lived in Oakland for a long time, so being surrounded by shrieking crazy people makes me feel more relaxed and at home. It may not be for everybody.

              1. I’m pretty sure White Indian is the one that led to registration. It was hard to read threads that had 300 posts, over half of which were its idiotic self referencing drivel.

                1. That was the primary culprit, yes. I kind of miss White Indian, though. 🙁

                  1. Gambol, gambol, gambol.

Typologies. Agricultural city-statists. Mother Earth. Original affluent society!

                    (Citation to Luddite whackjob)

                    Gamboling!!!!

                    Read post about 50 times.

There. That should get you your WI fix for a while.

                2. Who was the poster who would copy the entire comment thread and repost it?

                  1. “Who was the poster who would copy the entire comment thread and repost it?”

                    White Indian

I believe the experts on the topic of our “historical trolls” (i.e. Me and the voices in my head) agree that White Indian was *not* the same as Mary

White Indian was devoted to the idea of “Primitivism” and seemed to think through some retarded-logic-twist that this made it even more-libertarian than libertarians, because private property should therefore not exist and the entire notion of property boundaries was the very basis of Freedom-Crushing Statehood, and the only real freedom was freedom to Gambol…

..when white indian realized it would get nothing but mockery, it resorted to handle-jacking….copy/pasting enormous screeds…repeat-posting gibberish… in attempts to shut down discussions here. It was the source of the character limit & registration in comments AFAIK.

My spider sense has not signaled the return of this creature in many moons.

Mary, by contrast, was just insane and obsessed (and i think some kind of Randian Objectivist, if you bother to read her comments in her Google+ incarnation)… and is also very likely the source of some of our contemporary trolls… because apparently she does still regularly read things here, including comments

              2. I was mostly kidding, and just pointing out that people crab at each other quite a bit, despite ostensible agreement on most things.

                1. “I was mostly kidding, and just pointing out that people crab at each other quite a bit, despite ostensible agreement on most things.”

Yeah, you all bitch about the government but then in the end vote for whatever neocon asshole Republican church ladies select for you. Say, that’s pretty much what they do on the AM radio when they make loud and vital arguments about how we better vote for mitt Romney because the alternative meant that Obama was going to GRAB YOUR GUNS. I wouldn’t brag too much.

                  1. At least we’re not racist terrorists like you

                    1. “Not racist terrorists”

Nah, you’re just a run-of-the mill-republican who likes to be smug and coy about it.

And Now you’re just being lazy. I’m going shopping. I’m going to make collards, cheese grits, fried chicken and pecan pie. I’ll be back in 2 hours to see if you’ve posted anything that doesn’t make me yawn.

                  2. You’re back to your amsoc sock, Tulpa? Don’t you have dog porn to jerk off to this evening? We don’t judge here.

                  3. It’s OK, AmSoc. We know you’re ready for Hillary.

                    1. Cankles, must lick cankles.

                  4. Yeah, you all bitch about the government but then in the end vote for whatever neocon asshole Republican church ladies select for you. Say, that’s pretty much what they do on the AM radio when they make loud and vital arguments about how we better vote for mitt Romney because the alternative meant that Obama was going to GRAB YOUR GUNS.

needs more BOOOOOOOSHPIGS and CHRISTFAGS and WINGNUUUUUUUUUTSSSSSSS

                    1. Single wing or dual wing WINGNUUUUUUUUUTSSSSSSS ?

    8. “This is precisely why I think we should ditch the 2nd amendment.”

Sooo.. you believe that the 2nd amendment is what grants your right to keep and bear arms? This is precisely why I think you, and your ilk should stick to pontificating about shit that you might actually have a clue about, and avoid the 2A..

    9. Why shouldn’t local communities–within reason– be able to enact zoning laws and local ordinances that reflect the interests and desires of the residents that live there?

So you’d be cool with a “No fags” or a “No niggers” ordinance, right?

Do ever think that maybe, just maybe, the left is wrong about guns?

    10. Why shouldn’t local communities–within reason– be able to enact zoning laws and local ordinances that reflect the interests and desires of the residents that live there?

Yeah, why shouldn’t local communities be allowed to ban abortion clinics and gay bars?

    11. I doubt the good people of Shreveport woud agree with you on much of anything especially once they got to know you.

  7. Looks like somebody forgot the first rules of government safety – always assume it’s loaded, don’t point it at anything you don’t want to be destroyed, keep your finger off the trigger.

    1. Most importantly, don’t leave it laying around where children or retards can get their hands on it.

  8. Start working at home with Google! It’s by-far the best job I’ve had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this – 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $100 per hour. I work through this link

    ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, http://www.workbuzz60.com

  9. “Just the idea of giving that information willingly to the police department, for no real reason, seemed very unreasonable to me.

It’s certainly a low-key, calm, resolved way of putting it.

I’d put it as “unconstitutional search and seizure”, and yet another clear indicator that when a place is uniformly run by progressives, they go full brown-shirt.

  10. I’m sure the progressive folks would completely agree if a city councilman in, say, Alabama made a comment like, “if it forces an abortion clinic to close, so be it.”

Team Red, Team Blue: same statism, different faces.

    1. Hey, you know, you have to submit to a background check while you are in the store before you can shoot up the neighborhood. Hey, you know, now that you’re pregnant we’re going to convict you of first degree murder if you decide not to have your baby.

      Same, same… Really.

      1. Wasn’t what he was saying at all and has no relation to the topic under discussion. Read the thread one more time and try again.

        1. Forget it, you’re in Tulpa town, Contrarian. Start drinking instead. I’m enjoying a fine Sculpin.

          1. I still don’t see how you guys drink that bitter IPA all of the time.

            1. BECAUSE IT IS DELICIOUS YOU UNCOUTH BABOON

              1. Meh, it’s ok occasionally. I sort of like the way different IPAs put different patterns of lacing on my favorite lager glasses. But I can’t drink it all of the time, I like really clean tasting European style lagers.

                1. Ah, the 5% ABV stuff, eh? Noob.

            2. Brown Shugga is back. Just got a 6 pack an hour ago.

          2. Hmm good idea. I haven’t had a good beer in a while. I’ve got some bourbon barrel homebrew standing by.

      2. No you don’t. You just have to buy a gun on the street. Then you can shoot up whatever you want. Gun control is a fucking joke and it doesn’t work. Unless your goal is to only allow the government and criminals to have guns.

  11. Hey Mark Farrell. See this? This is my middle finger. Go fuck yourself you parasite.

  12. Look, baggers, how do you expect we can move on to the next great issue if you can’t even agree with common sense gun control? If everyone gets killed by guns, we can’t move the country forward. So just agree with us already, rat fuckers! Then we can more forward to the next step, common sense speech control. I mean, you won’t have any weapons, baggers, how you gonna object to that? See how this works? Common sense! Progress!

    1. Nicely done. I especially liked the “rat fuckers” thing. I think that’s A-grade impersonation there.

Wait – are you training in their language to be a spy for us? Like the Soviets did in No Way Out?

  13. “But the all the guns are coming from states with lax gun laws”

Whines NYC and Chicago, which makes it difficult for ordinary citizens to get guns. Straw purchases require buyers who would pass backgrounds.

    Something about…. black markets.

    1. Also, and I love how this little nugget is always left out, you can’t buy a handgun if you are not in your state of residence. A resident of NY State can’t go down to South Carolina and pick up a single fucking handgun… not even at the dreaded “gun show.”

  14. Sf sucks and everyone in it deserves to be punished.

  15. I make up to $90 an hour working from my home. My story is that I quit working at Walmart to work online and with a little effort I easily bring in around $40h to $86h? Someone was good to me by sharing this link with me, so now i am hoping i could help someone else out there by sharing this link… Try it, you won’t regret it!……

    http://www.OnlineJobs100.com

  16. Screw the cops. Go find some real crime to deal with scumbags.

    http://www.CompletePrivacy.tk

  17. Im making over $9k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life. This is what I do,

    ———- http://www.onlinejobs100.com

  18. I’m a staunch advocate of strict gun control. Everyone should be required, starting in grade school, to know how to accurately shoot a weapon. If you can’t control your shot, you’re useless to anyone and just waste bullets.
