The Waiting Is the Hardest Part

A Lake County, Indiana, 911 dispatcher has been disciplined for telling a caller no medics were available and he'd have to wait. The caller had reported his friend had passed out at a fitness club and when told no medics were available said he'd take him to the hospital. The dispatcher offered no further assistance. Officials said there was a fire station just across the street from the gym and the dispatcher should have transferred the call there.

And since an ambulance was not available, Gary officials said firefighters right across the street from the gym could have responded. But the Lake County dispatcher never transferred the call to them.

Maybe the dispatcher also passed out when told that Gary - one of the top five most obese cities - actually had a fitness club.
