Had a bug the last few days and haven't been on here. I see the flag derp is still gloing strong.

    1. AlmightyJB   10 years ago

I heard the flag killed a bunch of people.

      1. WTF   10 years ago

        You're a towel flag!

  2. straffinrun   10 years ago

"We strive to tell the complete story of America," National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said in a press release. "Any stand-alone depictions of Confederate flags have no place in park stores."

Flags don't take up that much space, buddy. National parks on the other hand..

  3. lafe.long   10 years ago

We strive to tell the complete story of America

Erm... No. No you don't. Obviously.

  4. Dark Lord of the wood chipper   10 years ago

This is retarded even by government standards.

    1. croaker   10 years ago

Ker Avon (Blake's 7): "This demonstrates a level of stupidity no amount of training could ever hope to match."

  5. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

The National Park Service said it would still allow selling books and educational materials that depict the flag in historical context.

We know that few are teaching the nuances of the competing interests that led to the Civil War, but I expect soon children will be taught that the North was fighting against an nondescript group whose motivations are altogether lost to history.

    1. Charles Easterly   10 years ago

Well, they did wear grey, which is rather bland.

      1. AlmightyJB   10 years ago

        Wearing grey is now illegal.

        1. UnCivilServant   10 years ago

          Unless it's by Hugo Boss.

          1. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

You know who else wore Hugo Boss?

            1. Entropy Drehmaschine Void   10 years ago

              Leni Riefenstahl?

              1. Charles Easterly   10 years ago

+1 Leni Riefenstahl At The End Of Time

"Do you want to judge me or do you want to judge my art
No, of course it's me you've come to try...

I leave you so unsatisfied that I'm unrepentant and still alive
How I will outlive you all and how I outclass you all
Congratulate yourselves on what you would have done
But you never did, never had to try
To think, to fight, to live, to die or what...."

  6. WoodchipsandDerp   10 years ago

Thanks for jacking up the value of my CSA memorabilia, Feds. Muahh!

    1. Joshua   10 years ago

Where do you sell that sort of stuff now that ebay has banned it?

  7. Rebel Scum   10 years ago

Stamp out all history that is complicated, may counter any USgov set narrative, and that might incite your feelz.

  8. Suthenboy   10 years ago

I am endlessly amazed at how effective the left is at drumming up fake and meaningless causes. It is almost like people are emotionally driven idiots and thus easily manipulated. Almost.

All this time spent talking about a piece of cloth. Meantime the Hildebeast is not sitting in a prison cell for selling the office of Secretary of State.

    1. Lee G   10 years ago

In fairness, the right is obsessed with pieces of cloth as well.

    2. Notorious G.K.C.   10 years ago

What do you think the left wants to talk about? The economic recovery? Obama's skillful handling of foreign affairs?

The Dems need to get out the low-info base. They can't do that by pointing to any record of accomplishment - nobody could be *that* low info. So instead, scare the base about how the Republicans want to wave Confederate flags and gun you down in your churches. You know, "vote or die."

  9. Florida Man   10 years ago

Hey, a Florida confederate flag. Thanks Charlie!

    1. UnCivilServant   10 years ago

Florida sent what, three guys and a gator?

      1. Florida Man   10 years ago

That's why it was surprising. My ancestors fought in the Georgia and Virgina armies even thought they were from Florida.

      2. Florida Man   10 years ago

I just looked it up. 15000, which was about 20% of the population.

        1. UnCivilServant   10 years ago

20% of florida's population was a drop in the bucket of the battlefields of that war...

          1. Florida Man   10 years ago

For sure. Some charged saw the loss of entire companies in one volley.

  10. LynchPin1477   10 years ago

Gettysburg? Why is there even a park there? Did something happen I'm not aware of?

    1. UnCivilServant   10 years ago

      Something about shoes.

      1. Adans smith   10 years ago

        No,it was picket fences.

      2. Charles Easterly   10 years ago

        Shoes?

        1. UnCivilServant   10 years ago

The Army of Northern Virgnia went to Gettysburg in search of shoes, which were manufactured in that region and there was a purported stockpile of them there. Their own footwear was wearing out.

          1. UnCivilServant   10 years ago

Correction - there were no shoe factories, but the Confederates had bad intel.

  11. Rich   10 years ago

    I am shocked -- SHOCKED! -- by Charles's alt-text.

    1. UnCivilServant   10 years ago

Would you say you were triggered?

      1. Rich   10 years ago

I considered it a trigger treat.

        *** bites lip ***

        1. Reverend Draco   10 years ago

Would they be stale by now? I mean, Roy Rogers died in '98. . .

  12. Rich   10 years ago

"Any stand-alone depictions of Confederate flags have no place in park stores."

Stand-alone depictions of Confederate flags in NPS-credited *photos*, OTOH, ....

  13. Trigger Hippie   10 years ago

What's the big deal here? Our nation also has a rich tradition of editing propaganda movies/history in order to place actors portraying Stalin in key positions near Lenin during the the glorious revolution that he neither was present for or actively participated in.

The omitting of distasteful symbols from history should be accepted in our culture as par for the cour....wait. Where the fuck am I?

    1. UnCivilServant   10 years ago

You're stoned out of your ass in Oregon.

      1. Trigger Hippie   10 years ago

Ah, that explains it. Far out, man.

*attempts to place bong on coffee table, misses by a good foot. Goes to kitchen to retrieve a mop, forgets why I wandered in, gives up and eats half a box of Honey Bunches of Oats*

  14. Napoleon Bonoparte   10 years ago

Well, here's the opportunity to express your displeasure.

    Battle Flag the 4th

    The American Swastika.

  18. Stevie OneLeg   10 years ago

Certainly there are more important matters facing our country right now, but it's always the little shit like this that tells me we are well and truly fucked as a nation.

  19. adolphowisner   10 years ago
