Here is John Roberts, chief oracle of the United States of America, from Thursday's King v. Burwell decision: "Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them. If at all possible, we must interpret the Act in a way that is consistent with the former, and avoids the latter." What the statement illustrates, writes David Harsanyi, is that for Roberts, the law is a subordinate concern.
