Brickbat: Dark of the Sun
Pupils at North Primary School in London, England, had made pinhole cameras to watch the recent solar eclipse. But school officials at the last minute forced them to watch the event on television, saying some religions object to directly watching an eclipse. When pressed by local media to say exactly which religions would object, school officials refused to answer.

This makes sense. An eclipse is a dragon eating the sun and if you see the dragon, you will be cursed for life.

It’s for the children.
So am I to understand that Reason is in favor of children being cursed for life?
You have it here folks, child-cursing magazine Reason does it again.
MUHUHUHUWHA!
This is why I keep my orphans in the basement.
I heard one of his last acts as president, Bush forced NASA to paint a portrait of Mohammed the Prophet on the surface of the sun.
Damn Druids! Always making their fellow Britons change their behavior…
Phil Belman, whose seven year old daughter goes to the school, said: “I am extremely upset about it. My child went in having spent an hour preparing and making up her pinhole camera. This is an issue about scientific matters versus religious superstition.
“I am outraged – is it going to be Darwin next? We will be like mid America.”
Phil, you should be so lucky. as it stands it’s more likely that you’ll be mid-east instead…you wanker
Ever been around Brits ? Soon enough you realize even the lowliest Yorkshireman knows one thing. He’s better than any American.
Which is why British Airways uses Boeings. Wait… What were we talking about again?
Perhaps I was talking to the wrong Brits, because I never got that impression.
I’ve worked in two big international firms. European s are very class and caste and ethnic and national conscious. Very highly tuned bigotry. Americans are at the bottom.
Except for when we drop by and end one of those classy and sophisticated European (occasional) genocides.. then we’re a-OK..
Most progressives feel that way as well. Inferior to Europeans that is.
Well remember, we are the descendants of their lower orders who had to GTFO because they couldn’t feed themselves…
I am glad I work for the Swiss then – they (mostly) put up with us without any airs of superiority. They are a bit…um, centralized in some thinking, however.
One my best friends worked for the Danes for a few years and they drove him up the wall.
Except is has been invaded. Several times. I seem to recall the British burning DC to the ground…
I’d rather be in mid-America than Rotherham, thanks.
I forgot that we are their boogeyman to point at while their country is rotting from the inside.
Pupils at North Primary School in London shall remain fully dialated.
+1 partial daylight.
I’ll take it, but man, could I have set Switzy up any better?
He usually shows up later.
No, he’s here now.
Oh, sorry, I missed that.
Must be my bad eyesight.
Was it from the use of binoculars during an eclipse? Or just excessive masturbation?
I misunderstood how carrots were supposed to help and ended up stabbing myself in the eyes.
Uncivil,
Didn’t you realize that would adversely affect the pupils?
*scientifically narrows gaze*
Some religions object to fools being allowed to breed. Does that mean these school officials will be getting vasectomies?
Nes. Yo.
I looked at the photo gallery and was glad to see two Pastafarians in attendance.
We used a pinhole camera for this eclipse. Up here in Scotland there was 97% coverage of the sun. Next door neighbour used a welding mask, which is an even better way to see it. Then when it was cloudy you could look at it directly. Totally rocked.
Such respect for other religions. I hope the kids at least enjoyed the refreshments provided by the Rastafarians.
+1 touched by Angel Hair
Using a pinhole camera is looking at the eclipse directly?
Don’t confuse them!
Your world frightens and confuses me.
Just another milestone on the way to Peak Stupid
“He refused to say which religions and cultures have concerns about observing eclipses directly.”
Makes me suspicious that this is all a BS excuse.
Its the Vampire religion.
