A teacher at Holmes Middle School, in Dallas, Texas, has been placed on administrative leave after a student recorded a profanity-filled, nearly seven-minute rant he delivered to students. Several students said the teacher, who wasn't named by media, has a history of this sort of thing. When the student's mother took the recording to the school principal, she says he asked her to delete the video and "do nothing with it."

Diana says she took the recording to the principal the next morning, but wasn't satisfied with the reaction.

"She asked me to delete the video, not to have the video in my phone, not to do nothing with it," said Diana. "I didn't delete it. I told her I wasn't going to."

At least Diana's kid was smart enough to back up her allegations with audio.

Language between middle school students doesn't surprise anyone.

Language between adults doesn't surprise anyone.

But mix between the two, and it's suddenly bad. What's the cut off? Is there an age threshold? Where do you draw the line and why? That's the point I was trying to make.

The reason I say I'm not shocked is because I said and heard much worse when I was in middle school.

Because it's unprofessional and disrespectful depending on the direction the language is going. Language usage among peers and language usage in other social dynamics are not comperable language usage.

For example, on H&R, I swear at you monicle-wearing cretins often, though my profanity usage in most other circumstances is minimal to nonexistant. This is simply because of the norms of the population and the type of interaction.

This is not some outmoded remnant of old morality, it is a common societal norm. Yes, people fail to live up to expectations, but that does not justify discarding the expectations.

Indeed. Does this really have to be explained? You send your kid to school, and you should have the expectation that they'll be treated civilly. Frankly, I'd expect the teachers to keep the students from using profanity as well. Is that really too much to ask? Just because we're libertarians, and just because something is not "shocking" doesn't mean it's ipso facto acceptable. It shouldn't mean we find civil society "quaint."

The teacher is paid to teach. His language is not conducive to a healthy learning environment. It is surprising that this would need to be explained to anyone.

If you were paying a tutor to teach your 12 year old daughter mathematics, would you accept this language from him? Would you be shocked to learn that instead of teaching her the Pythagorean theorem he was bragging about the size of his cock and offering her to take a look?

While you may have said and heard worse when you were in middle school, I'm fairly certain that it wasn't typical banter between you and Mrs. Crabapple. How old are you that you can't understand that this inappropriate and that this person should not be in a teaching position?

Perhaps the teacher should be encouraged to consider another line of work. This seems like evidence he's burned out or just unfit for teaching pre-adults.

Obviously the woman said it and by the time they got into the car to extract the trapped people, she had died or passed out and possible died before they could check her vitals, if they rescued the baby first. Why people are attributing this to a miracle just pisses me off. It's not a fucking miracle. It's obvious to anyone with a logical, or cynical, bone in their body.
