See? And you thought blowback wasn't a thing. Here's an example of blow-blowback.

  2. Hugh Akston   10 years ago

    Wow, former president James Talyor.

    1. MJGreen   10 years ago

This wasn't the best time for his unique brand of bittersweet folk rock.

      1. Hugh Akston   10 years ago

Look MJ, Taylor isn't as laid-back as people think. So here's the deal: He's gonna play, and the French are gonna float there and like it.

One of the best Simpsons episodes of all time.

  6. Notorious G.K.C.   10 years ago

They should have brought The Cure:

(and don't get all technical about Arabs vs. Berbers or crap like that)

  7. Jerryskids   10 years ago

Damn. So James Taylor is still alive? Is Lou Reed still dead?

    1. Jordan   10 years ago

      Lou Reed is dead?!?!?!

  8. tarran   10 years ago

It's too bad James Taylor didn't sing his best song.

I'd prefer they send us Alizee...

  10. Scruffy Nerfherder   10 years ago

Who thought that was a good idea? Is the State Dept filled with nitwits now?

I know, let's have Elmo on stage as well to make them feel all better.

    1. John   10 years ago

Is the State Dept filled with nitwits now?

      Yes

      1. Scruffy Nerfherder   10 years ago

I do have a contact at State who's now a Deputy Director. He's a hard-core Republican, I have no idea how he has survived the last few years there. I should razz him a little.

        1. Pro Libertate   10 years ago

Bureaucrats are used to the changes with political appointees, though they can't enjoy it when they not only have to deal with political nonsense but also have to see their agency's reputation go further down the toilet.

Thank God we have these diplomatic super-geniuses running the show now instead of those podunk rednecks.

  15. Bardas Phocas   10 years ago

Christ. The french should use their dozen nukes a flatten DC.

America - We truely are the worst.

    1. Rohdewarrior   10 years ago

They don't dare -- we're holding Billy Joel in reserve for Mutually Assured Destruction.

      1. db   10 years ago

Plus, we have the Neil Diamond Doomsday Device.

John Kerry Has James Taylor Sing 'You've Got a Friend' to the French

You lousy bastards... I just had breakfast.

  17. Pro Libertate   10 years ago

Jesus, Kerry's a moron. Why not a great American band like AC/DC?

    1. Scruffy Nerfherder   10 years ago

      uh...

      1. Pro Libertate   10 years ago

        American, I say.

        1. Ice Nine   10 years ago

American? They're not American. Everyone knows they're Scottish.

          1. Pro Libertate   10 years ago

Ah, you know the deep truth about AC/DC.

            1. GILMORE   10 years ago

              Aren't they bi-sexual, like Queen?

              1. Pro Libertate   10 years ago

No. They are Scottish and Australian, which makes them more dangerous than you can possibly imagine.

  18. LemonMender   10 years ago

My wife immediately seized on the irony of the lyrics of the song:

"Winter, summer, spring, or fall, all you've got to do is call? And I'll be there"

Except when Obama's, you know, not there, and has to send his buddy to sing to the Frenchies to make them feel better, just like in junior high.

(That is a comment on the imbecility of this gesture. That Obama didn't go and hold hands with other world leaders actually raised him in my esteem just a little bit. But JK doing this is right up there with Michael Dukakis riding on a tank. (Perhaps not coincidental both were from Massachusetts.)

    1. db   10 years ago

"Winter, summer, spring, or fall, all you've got to do is call? I'll send some douche."

  19. Libertarian   10 years ago

Kerry looks like an animatronic president at Walt Disney World. Actually, he makes Lincoln look handsome.

  20. GILMORE   10 years ago

Terror experts are unsure how the French will retaliate.

    Uh, they *had a parade*

What, you expected an invasion of Yemen?

  21. Pulseguy   10 years ago

You can only get so competent. The world and situations are so complex that even the most competent persons actions can be invalidated from time to time. But, it appears that incompetence knows no limits.

  22. steve walsh   10 years ago

John Kerry increasingly resembles a muppet. Grand Funk Railroad, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and John Fogerty would have been way better choices.

    1. Jerryskids   10 years ago

What about your band, Mr. Walsh?

"Where do you run when it's too much to bear?
Who do you turn to in need when nobody's there?"

It works on a couple of different levels given what Kerry (Livgren, not John) was talking about.
