Pakistani Actress Veena Malik Sentenced to 26 Years in Prison for "Malicious Acts of Blasphemy"

Actress Veena Malik was sentenced this week to 26 years in prison by a Pakistani court for reenacting her wedding with her husband on a morning TV show. Her husband, Asad Khattak, as well as Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, the owner of Geo TV, which aired the program, and Shaista Whidi, who hosted it, all received 26 year sentences as well.
The program caused controversy when it first aired several months ago, leading the TV station to run apologies in Pakistani newspapers. The court primarily objected to the use of religious music in the mock wedding. "The malicious acts of the proclaimed offenders ignited the sentiments of all the Muslims of the country and hurt the feelings, which cannot be taken lightly and there is need to strictly curb such tendency," the court ruling said.
Malik does not currently reside in Pakistan and neither, reportedly, do the other three people given sentences. The actress says she will return to Pakistan next month to appeal the sentence and that she has faith in the Pakistani court system.

We need to respect their culture.
I will only show as much respect as people will give me in return on the same matter.
NO! It is YOU who are wrong!
Sir Charles Napier knew how to do multi-culturalism.
"Build your funeral pyre. I will instruct my men to construct a gallows next to it. You follow your culture and then I will follow mine".
Which one? I get several "Sir Charles Napier"s during a search, and they don't look related.
This dude.
Charles James Napier.
The religion of peace.
A story for which Napier is often noted involved Hindu priests complaining to him about the prohibition of Sati by British authorities. This was the custom of burning a widow alive on the funeral pyre of her husband. As first recounted by his brother William, he replied:
"Be it so. This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed. Let us all act according to national customs." [5]

Conquer a country, make everyone submit to your authority, and start telling everyone how to live?
Well when you know best.
Conquer a country, make everyone submit to your authority, and start telling everyone how to live?
I know, right? It is soooo uncool how he told those people that they had to submit to his beliefs! How dare he tell them not to burn widows alive!
And the way he personally conquered all of the Indian subcontinent, like a modern Alexander the Great, spectacular!
"We need to respect their culture."
I respect that body.
The actress says she will return to Pakistan next month to appeal
I would think twice about that.
I would think twice about that.
But according to the article, Ms. Malik "has faith in the Pakistani court system."
Very well. I would faith twice about that.
"Faith is believing something that nobody in his right mind would believe" - Archie Bunker.
Such as the believing that the Pakistani court system can give a fair trial, or will acquit anyone accused of blasphemy on television.
To be fair it's only "malicious acts of blasphemy". Call them brainwashed simpletons following the psychotic rantings of a pervert. Not being malicious, just descriptive.
I would like to commit malicious acts of blasphemy with her.
Malik does not currently reside in Pakistan and neither, reportedly, do the other three people given sentences. The actress says she will return to Pakistan next month to appeal the sentence and that she has faith in the Pakistani court system.
Umm....
BYOS
The actress says she will return to Pakistan next month to appeal the sentence and that she has faith in the Pakistani court system.
No and no.
"Malicious Acts of Blasphemy"
Is that better or worse than "felony menacing"?
That court would fit right in on a lot of U.S. college campuses.
Proof that she wasn't hired for her brains.
That court would fit right in on a lot of U.S. college campuses.
But, that court is a repressive and backward tool of oppression. And our college tribunals are enlightened pursuers of social justice and tolerance. Or something.
"The malicious acts of the proclaimed offenders ignited the sentiments of all the Muslims of the country and hurt the feelings, which cannot be taken lightly and there is need to strictly curb such tendency," the court ruling said.
Look, the court is just protecting Pakistanis from hate speech. What if her religious irreverence triggered someone and made them feel unsafe?
They live in Pakistan, they're already unsafe, a few images on the TV aren't going to make them more so.
What if the late Links triggered someone?
Too late.
But, being an adult, I can cope and don't need to force my whims upon people over whom I do not hold dominion.
(Though I could use some minions...)
What?! You're calling the "need to strictly curb such tendency" a *whim*?!
Yes.
Good.
I'm willing to bet that the reason they were given such harsh sentences is *because* they don;t live there. A symbolic punishment they never really have to accept. By traveling there and appealing, I think she will force their hand.
Maybe that's her reasoning too, and if so, I hope she's right. But powers-that-be have never appreciated having their face rubbed in their mistakes.
ignited the sentiments and hurt the feelings
No mask there. It hurts the feelz.
Baby Jesus wept.
Why? Did Mohammed molest him too?
What would be the opposite of bombing these people back to the Stone Age in terms of forcing them at least into the Age of Enlightenment? If they've got television, and presumably electricity, can somebody explain to them that the magic moving picture box is an act of science and not the gods?
What?! And Anger the Machine Spirits that Dwell Within? How dare you blaspheme the Omnissiah! Feed him to the reclaimator, we shall have another servitor by the end of the hour.
Ave Machina.
Bomb them with bacon, pornography and secular rock music. That should turn them in the right direction.
Surely she isn't sufficiently mad to have faith in the Pakistani court system.
Perhaps she wants to become a Martyr?
First! Black Friday cheap panties fight!
Vote, brave or foolish, the guys who were trying to break up the fight?
Foolish.
Dozens of people have interrupted holiday shopping at major retail stores around the St. Louis area to speak out about a grand jury's decision not to indict the officer who fatally shot Michael Brown.
Vote, brave of foolish.
Just annoying. It's not like this is an underreported story. Everyone who is going to give a fuck already does.
I vote to not see the participants in said panties.
Racist.

I hated that band.
" believe Satan and biological weapons were in Florida"
I can't in good conscience say he's definitely wrong.
Florida is home to both microscale and macroscale bio-weapons. So he's got a head start on being right. Now he just has to find Satan.
I think Steve Spurrier lives in South Carolina now. Close though.
Where else would he live?
Georgia, of course.
"He revealed he is 'homeless and penniless', living in a Holiday Inn"
That may be the celebrity definition of homeless and penniless, but it's more expensive than renting an apartment.
"'I went two days without eating and I ended up in an emergency room': Creed frontman Scott Stapp revealed he was broke and homeless"
Yeah, meth will do that to you...

Shocking? No, not really. I'd be shocked if a fellow cop did the right thing and arrested him for felony assault.
The malicious acts of the proclaimed offenders ignited the sentiments of all the Muslims victims of the country college and hurt the feelings, which cannot be taken lightly and there is need to strictly curb such tendency
Two edits is all it takes for this to be something you might seriously read at Brown University.
Maybe she thinks they will commute the sentence to stoning. She may be quite disagreeably surprised when she finds out they're not planning to use rose petals
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....-rage.html
Aggravated assault for shooting someone in the head? Only a cop could get off that easy.
I'm just thankful the injury wasn't lethal, that was disturbingly accurate for cop marksmanship.
He was actually aiming at the tire.
He'll get off easier than that, as he's only been charged. Union lawyers, assemble!
It did say the department is trying to strip him of his credentials. Though I'm sure the union will try to block that from happening.
He's a reserve deputy constable. Which is basically a volunteer policeman. I.e., not union. Now, what regular deputy Constables in Harris County do, I'm not sure. Sheriff's Department, City Police, Feds: all those are pretty easy to understand, but you've got me where Constable fits in. I think it's mainly serve writs, though I have seen them write tickets too.
I'd like to hear his explanation for doing it, provided he has one. Local info on it.
I really need to stop reading about these incidents. They are wearing me down.
Well. Just go to the major news websites. You won't read about them there.
Hey, my favorite part of that link was this link in the sidebar:

I actually used to think Billy Corgan was the d-bag of the century until I read an interview with him a few years ago. Apparently he has a near-encyclopedic knowledge of baseball and owns a professional wrestling company. He's from Chicago, too, which explains a number of things. I get the impression that as long as you didn't talk about politics or anything he'd probably be a lot of fun to hang out with. He's a little too into the Alex Jones scene for my taste, but telling that pompous queen Anderson Cooper to go fuck himself outweighs that, in my opinion.
That's funny. I still can't stand the way he sings.
I like Disarm.
Shia LeBeouf: Woman raped me at gallery
Bullshit. Shia is at least a double-bagger.
I'm not sure which is weirder, the rape accusation or the performance art.
"In the bizarre email exchange, LaBeouf also opened up about the extreme preparation he did for his role in the World War II movie "Fury."
"The day after I got the job, I joined the US National Guard. I was baptized ? accepted Christ in my heart ? tattooed my surrender and became a chaplain's assistant to Captain Yates for the 41st Infantry," said LaBeouf.
"I spent a month living on a forward operating base. Then I linked up with my cast and went to Fort Irwin. I pulled my tooth out, knifed my face up and spent days watching horses die. I didn't bathe for four months. I met some tankers who told me that was just the way it was out there ? some guys had the same pair of socks on for three years."
That's the funniest thing I've seen done by an actor since Crispin Glover went on Letterman.
This man's a genius!
When are women going to learn, "no no no no no no no no no no" means "no no no no no no no no no no"?
The lead pic was leaving me hoping for something a little more blasphemous.
It's clickbait. And it worked, they hooked you.
I never said I wasn't gullible when boobies are involved.
Lucas is studying a range of human anatomical features and body measurements that can help to identify a person, such as from closed circuit television (CCTV) security videos, no matter what clothing the person may be wearing.
Hmm. Perhaps the Pakistanis might be interested?
Wearing a Burka on a Segway sounds like a pretty hefty challenge for thir project. Also, does that include someone wearing a comedy fat suit under that burka?
Yeah. It seems farfetched.
The actual f---! Didn't the International Human Rights Commission recently rule that the accordion is blasphemous in all cultures?
Why don't people like accordions? Are you sure you aren't thinking of bagpipes?
I like
Irish trad music, so I get to listen to both.

"The actress says she will return to Pakistan next month to appeal the sentence and that she has faith in the Pakistani court system."
She should have herself evaluated by a psychiatrist.
There's gotta be a diagnosis for people who are irrationally unafraid. What's the opposite of paranoia?
"But, doctor, you don't understand, nobody's out to get me, ha ha ha ! Nobody at all!"
Someone should tell her not to have faith in any court system where "blasphemy" is a thing.
Shit, she shouldn't have faith in any court system, full stop.
OT:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer has arrived.
Leilafair . you think Allen `s comment is astonishing, on friday I bought a gorgeous Aston Martin DB5 when I got my cheque for $8527 this past month and just over ten grand this past-month . no-doubt about it, this really is the most-financialy rewarding I have ever had . I began this 8-months ago and practically straight away began to earn at least $72, per hour .
Published here ????????? http://www.jobsfish.com ??????????
The SJWs should do a video - 10 hours walking through Karachi as an unveiled woman.
"The malicious acts of the proclaimed offenders ignited the sentiments of all the Muslims of the country and hurt the feelings, which cannot be taken lightly and there is need to strictly curb such tendency," the court ruling said.
So what if sentencing someone to 26 years in prison for...basically no reason...hurts the feelings and ignites the sentiments?
Is that an ISIS tattoo?
you see that is the problem....this program is not a blasphemy in its self..the song shown in the video are not blasphemy...these kinds of shows and more dance n music shows are shown everyday in Pakistan ..there is FTV pakistan , there is MTV Pakistan too....the problem that one religious song that was played and everyone started dancing with shoes in their hands ..that was when the objection came..not the show itself...how would you feel if during a sermon in a Church...people start dancing salsa or any other dance ..!!!will people object on it??this was just another show untill it went crazy with religious song and shoes waved in the air which is not showed in this segment !!more the court who sentenced 26 years is not his jurisdiction neither his ruling is applied in other parts of Pakistan because ..the area which is called Gilgit Baltistan is part of Pakistan but its an independently ruled area..search for details in google..that why Veena said she has faith in Pakistani court !!more the court gave the ruling without even listening to anyone accused which in Pakistan itself has been condemned by political leaders and other law organisations...again i repeat this was just another morning show..dont believe in everything you see..look on youtube pakistani rock music and pakistan fashion week ..and yes a girl can walk unveiled in Karachi ..because pakistan is not Afghanistan or saudia arabia !!!
"....how would you feel if during a sermon in a Church...people start dancing salsa or any other dance ..!!!"
How would I feel? Why does anyone think their feelings are relevant to anything? Fuck your feelings.
I don't give two shits what kind of dance or music people listen to and fuck anyone that does.
I saw one person at approximately 2:32 hold up a shoe and twirl it around. Is it OK for that to go on at that part of the ceremony, but not at other parts?
I'm not a Christian, though that's the way I was raised, so I'd let the members of that congregation take offense, if they wanted to. Some wouldn't. Charismatics in the various Christian churches use dance as a form of worship.
2 Samuel 6:14
And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod.
So, maybe they'd allow it, maybe not.
In Islam, the Sufis have the dervishes, don't they?
In any case, the "offensive" music and dancing wasn't in a mosque, it was on TV. If that happened on a US TV show it would be protected by the 1st Amendment, and people could whine and write letters, but the law couldn't touch the show's producers, writers or guests.
Countries like Pakistan should grow up, but when your whole reason for being is to not live alongside people of other faiths or none, that may be a futile hope. Have yourself a reformation and an enlightenment, and separate mosque from state, then we'll talk.
Kevin R
Yeah, all that, but now they've got me curious. What does waving a shoe mean? We know what throwing a shoe means, because Bush Jr. got that rx. Is there to be no music at weddings? Or was it a problem because it was a fake wedding, a re-enactment by a couple that was already married? Or was the problem the dancing? Or is dancing OK, but not with shoes in your hands? Is that just to show off that you're dancing barefoot, and barefoot dancing is the problem? Or being barefoot generally?
The defense: there was a mistake and the trigger warning failed to air beforehand.
Everyone is let off except the program director, who is subsequently beheaded for his error.
