SNL Mocks Obama's Executive Orders in Hilarious Schoolhouse Rock Spoof

"I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a bill, and I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill. But I know I'll be a law someday, at least I hope and pray that I will, but today I am still just a bill."
Remember that anthem? If you do, you may want to check out Saturday Night Live's updated version, which debuted this weekend. The eager, musically-inclined piece of legislation meets President Obama, who promptly kicks him down the steps of the Capitol and introduces a new friend: Mr. Executive Order.
But even Mr. Executive Order is a little shocked to discover that the president has the authority to unilaterally legalize four million immigrants.
"Woah! Okay, go big or go home, huh?" says the bill.
Meanwhile, the bill pulls himself back up, promises to shut down Congress and go to Court… and is quickly kicked back down the steps again by Obama.
Kudos to SNL for finally delivering some half-decent political satire.

Saturday Night Live isn't funny. I'm not 100% convinced it ever was.
Especially this guy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenan_Thompson
Actually I think Kenan is currently the funniest one on the show.
SNl is basically 5 to 10 minutes of mild amusement, 25 - 30 minutes of lame, and the rest of of the 90 minute show is commercials.
And yeah it's never been funny.
They do sometimes get some decent musical guests.
You're talking to yourself again.
I'm the only one that will listen to me.
Most of the audience is mildly intoxicated by the time it comes on, so it doesn't really matter.
Yeah, it has amusing parts, but you have to sit through over an hour of boredom to find all the funny bits. Not worth it.
I don't like the fact that he can't contain his smirk. Every single sketch, he smirks.
The first couple of years were funny, but then I was just a kid and thought Mr. Bill was hilarious.
Ok, you are right. Not funny.
So brave
BUT THE LAMESTREAM MEDIA ONLY MOCKS CONSERVATIVES!
Weak. Do you need a little bump? The weekend is only half over.
Hang on a second.
Are you telling us that you believe SNL to be a media outlet?
Is SNL where you get your news?
Is that why you're so incredibly ignorant and backwards when it comes to modern politics?
This explains everything.
This is a joke comment, correct? I have not seen the Mainstream Media mock the RW in over 25 years. And let me tell you, I wait for it to happen. If I haven't seen it, it hasn't happened.
Okay, definitely a troll.
+1 I can see Russia from my house
That's just an actual quote. /derpty derp
You know your guy is rotten PB, when your guy, gaise, are making fun of your guy.
Also. SUCK IT YOU ASS FACED TURD.BURGLAR.

"So Reason is for the (arguably) unconstitutional expansion of executive power and the bypassing of the legislature when it furthers on of their pet causes."
What's wrong with that? Haven't you ever seen Schoolhouse Rock?

I think you need to go back and read that article again.
Richman says that since law can be interpreted to lead to any conclusion you want then it is just spiffy for Obumbles to not even bother with that. Cuz' the chirrens, or something.
See, its all good.
Means..ends. Eggs..omelettes. Some animals...
There is nothing even "arguably" unconstitutional in what PBO has done. Yet. Of course, one could investigate the Unconstitutionality of declaring war with trumped up evidence, as a prophylactic move, as Bush/Cheney accomplished. That, just may be Unconstitutional.
Where in the constitution does it say the executive writes laws?
That is one hell of an act you have there kimo. Too bad you can't do visual gags too, like dressing in funky robes and passing out flowers at the airport.
as a prophylactic move, as *LBJ* accomplished.
Pretty much consensuses around here that Bush was the worst prez ever! Until we got Obo and he's taken the trophy in a landslide.
But let's be honest in citing precedents, shall we?
"There is nothing even "arguably" unconstitutional in what PBO has done."
Oh, wow then I guess you win the argument.
You'd have to investigate Congress since they gave their approval to Bush's war.
Approval is that thing Obama never sought for his bombing campaigns.
Of course, one could investigate the Unconstitutionality of declaring war with trumped up evidence, as a prophylactic move, as Bush/Cheney accomplished.
Does the shrine to President Butt Naked take up your whole living area or just a small corner by the mud room?
The Washington Post actually fact checked Saturday Night Live because of this.
Hey, remember when they fact checked SNL for this Reagan sketch? No? Just an oversight, I'm sure.
That's because the humor in the Reagan sketch was based on absurdity.
The humor in this sketch is based on facts.
Just use the Jon Stewart excuse:
"I'm only a comedian!"
You spelled partisan douche incorrectly.
He's a neutral, objective commentator, until someone busts him for partisan commie rim jobbing. Then he's just a comedian.
For more on the immigration debate, check out Reason's comprehensive coverage.
Could you not put the words "comprehensive" and "immigration" in the same sentence? It gives me flashbacks to awful legislation.
I can't look at anything, anywhere, ever without having a flashback to awful legislation.
There isn't one single tiny little itsy-bitsy part of our lives that isn't regulated.
"There isn't one single tiny little itsy-bitsy part of our lives that isn't regulated."
Sooooooo...that means that they will quit legislating and writing new regulations, right?
Loving the optimism there, Suthenboy.
*sigh*
The progressives tell me that healthcare was completely unregulated before Obama saved the entire industry with the PPACA...
They also say that guns are "completely unregulated". Maybe if you want to experience some absolute freedom from regulation, you should go buy a gun.
/sarc
"They also say that guns are "completely unregulated"."
And the banks? Ha! Hang up a shingle and you're in bizz!
OT Sunday nut punch
This is why you never call the cops unless you're sure.
Incidentally, had a random person shot this child, would they have been able to say 'I thought he had a gun!' and go unpunished? Because I feel like that's how this is going to end.
Conspicuously missing from the article is a photo of the gun.
Was it one of these minus the red tip - http://www.pyramydair.com/info/Airsoft_Pistols/6
or one of these - http://www.gettyimages.com/det.....y/77938597
http://www.kctv5.com/story/274.....rec-center
Has a picture of the gun, and it looks real enough that I'd have shot him.
This kind of shit agitates the fuck out of me. As an avid airsoft collector, I eagerly await the day one of my neighbors calls the cops because they see my toy gun collection through my window. I'll get blown away in a hail of poorly aimed bullets, and my wife (God Bless her soul) will earn herself a few million in grief money. In this way I'll be able to care for my family long after my death.
Or, you know, the cops could learn a little fucking restraint.
THIS is SNL's "political commentary"? I remember a time when a) SNL didn't go after those trying to accomplish positive policy and b) SNL used to be considered a bit (if not over the edge) Lefty. WTF, NOW they go after the President for trying to solve a problem which Congress has ignored.
With ALL of the possibilities available to the SNL staff, Boehner, McConnell, Walker, The alleged GOPTP platform...but an attempt at keeping families together and fixing the clearly broken immigration system is what they decide to lampoon?. The one positive political attempt at reducing inequality in the United States?
Gotta wonder what Gilda, Jim or Phil would say about this departure.
I assume this is a troll because the possibility that someone could actually be this much of a drooling partisan hack depresses me.
It is kinda Gruberesque isn't it? Nobody is that honest about being a partisan moron.
It's clearly some kind of idiot, troll, or deep dish pizza aficionado. I don't care, though. The only damn game I get right now is Bengals/Texans. Talk about boring.
Hey hey hey... Let's not get the innocent, delicious deep dish pizza involved!
(narrows eyes)
Are you saying...you like deep dish? Hey ProL, there's another deviant to keep you company.
Ha, like you haven't seen worse trolling Salon.
Upthread the troll says 'if I haven't seen it, it hasn't happened' which makes me almost certain it's a sarcastic joke account.
It also said "...it isn't even arguable..".
Thats right, you can't deny. I know you will agree. Given this fact, there is no doubt.
I mean c'mon, agree with me and shut the fuck up.
"Upthread the troll says 'if I haven't seen it, it hasn't happened' which makes me almost certain it's a sarcastic joke account."
It's interesting and scary that his comments aren't immediately considered sarcastic. (For the record I'm going for Troll vs True Believer, but I wouldn't put money on it.)
If comedians need to take the intent of politicians into account instead of finding the humor in the situation, it's possible said comedians have gone into the wrong line of work.
""Unchecked Executive Authority = GOOD when liberals do it! BAD when anyone else does it!"
Shut the fuck up.
Remember when the democrats controlled the house, senate, and executive and didn't pass any immigration reform?
Those republicans really are nefarious, aren't they?
Majik spells, I tellya!
It's the Right Wing Jedi mind tricks, don't you know.
So...it's the responsibility of the US Government and, by extension, the taxpayers, to make sure that the families of people who have broken the law by entering this country illegally remain intact. Well, hell, how about we make a substantive change to reduce this break up the family boo-hooing and eliminate the anchor baby tactic altogether. That way the whole family can go back to the homeland as an intact unit. Problem solved. But then, it's not really about that is it?
It's Congress' prerogative to ignore it and leave it ignored.
If by "Jim",you mean Jim Belushi, your comment is completely invalid.
They've had some sketches recently that were borderline critical of the president. This was the harshest.
Let it sink in:
A mainstream comedy show just mocked a democrat POTUS on policy. (even saying he did something unconstitutional)
I for one, enjoyed it.
I am trying to figure out what this means. Has he lost all but the most fanatic members of the cult now?
When you have lost the useful idiots........
I just take it as the ground work for the 2016 Clinton campaign, but that is likely a bit paranoid. I can see it now: "Hillary 2016, she's not Obama" or perhaps "Hillary 2016, she opposed Obama before she supported him and then opposed him again."
"Hillary. A chance to make history - elect a woman."
She has nothing else.
It will probably be enough. Look at Obama's '08 win. Most Americans vote on feelings and nothing else. (Actually, I think most people do that, period.)
The difference for Hillary is that she's not a blank slate that a majority can project as having their interests at heart. No amount of politician doublespeak will inoculate her from her history.
What would they do if Joe Biden gets the nomination. They'd have to throw out all their schtick.
"What would they do if Joe Biden gets the nomination. "
Oh, that would be the most Awesome Presidential campaign ever!
SNL mocks Ebola czar
Of course, I take it with a grain of salt. It's safe to mock him now that he's a lame duck.
He's impotent?
Or is duck a euphamism for something other than penis?
Impotent? yes.
I think this is more preservation of the Democratic party and the left in general. Given how unpopular Obama has become, they need to protect their image from his sagging approval numbers. Much like how Republicans started to distance themselves (or run screaming) from Bush around 2007.
I didn't know the dude from Good Neighbor Stuff (Kyle?) was on SNL now
We need another Vietnam, thin out their ranks a little.
British Labour Party decides they're tired of having a chance of winning elections; starts arguing in favor of setting price floors on alcohol to stop British people from drinking more than one glass of wine in a day.
Let's hear Nigel Farage's opinion on the matter:
I wonder which argument is more likely to fly in the booze addled United Kingdom. The establishment UK parties seem to be doing everything they can to boost UKIP.
Consider who you are dealing with here. Panopticon island is swarming with leftists which surpass anyone portrayed in 1984, Atlas Shrugged, or Brave New World. I shit you not.
Labour sees no problem with this and has no idea why anyone would oppose it. We have the same shit here, just in smaller numbers. Look at the shock and disbelief here over the Midterm losses.
Sure, but in the United Kingdom you simply do *not* fuck with peoples' booze.
You can watch them day and night, spy on their phone calls, and consign them to the worse medical system in the western world and they will thank you for it. Touch their alcohol though and the Brits get a little ornery.
They've been fucking with people's booze in the UK forever. You know that pubs have to close at 11PM, right? Unless they have a King's license, and then they can be open until 12?
That hasn't really constrained their ability to drink they, since they just pound vodka at home, hit the pubs for a few hours, then blunder home in a stupor. I was just in England two weeks ago and pub drinking hours didn't seem to put much of a damper on the drunkards I saw wandering around pretty much all night.
Putting a floor on alcohol prices would actually make it hard for people to drink, as opposed to pub rules that simply incentivizes drinking at home instead of at the pub.
Actually what it incentivizes is pounding as much beer/booze as you can right before closing, and then they all spill out onto the street. I have also been there and seen it. Though luckily you can order a pizza and beer at all hours, which I have also done. The pizza was terrible.
Bad food in the UK? Unpossible.
Pizza? Hell, I almost starved to death when i was there. They fuck up everything food-wise.
"Sure, but in the United Kingdom you simply do *not* fuck with peoples' booze."
Which goes to my point of how cultish and insular the left is. They are blind to this. Nothing is over the top for them because their bizarro world has no limits. When they run up against them in the real world they start talking about some version of 'the new soviet man'.
Those chess pieces, my god, they're moving themselves!
These people are technocrats & men of system through and through. We could lock them in a room with the ghosts of Hayek & Darwin for a week and they'd still think the universe is fundamentally a dictatorship.
do *not* fuck with peoples' booze.
Hell, even the Soviets understood that. A drunk population is a mostly docile population, and when a drunk does get out of line, they don't get a lot of public outcry when they get tossed in a drunk tank to sleep it off.

"Irish|11.23.14 @ 3:17PM|#
in the United Kingdom you simply do *not* fuck with peoples' booze."
Not really.
As epi notes = pub closure times have been a regulatory limit to boozing for decades. Also laws against freebies, discounting, happy hours, specials, etc. Laws against serving sizes, or laws limiting how they serve cocktails (mixed drinks can't have more than X amt of liquor per serving) God, i had the worst argument with a bartender when i tried to get him to make me a proper drink rather than "2 squirts from the 25ml measured dispenser"; not only was it against the law for him to have his own ideas about how a cocktail should be mixed, but he thought it wasn't even his job.
They've been fucking with their booze *forever*. when i complained about this while living there, the pat answer everyone had on the tips of their tongues was, "its the cost of civilization; if we didn't limit ourselves, we'd be a shambles." Another put it = "We're a nation of functional alcoholics - the trick is maintaining the 'functional' part."
They do this by maintaining a strict culture of 'drink hard and fast 6-9', go out for a curry, crash into bed, and repeat the next day. on the weekends, you add in the "take ecstasy and go to the club and blow 100 quid on drinks in plastic cups while groping slutty birds"
I have every confidence a law like what they propose will pass at some point.
So I guess Miliband is pissed that the UK missed out on alcohol prohibition.
"British Labour Party decides they're tired of having a chance of winning elections; starts arguing in favor of setting price floors on alcohol to stop British people from drinking more than one glass of wine in a day."
OK, someone here did the follow-up on Gorby's decision that the Russkis drank too much vodka and his solution of cutting the vodka ration; predictable and sad.
Somehow, I think John Bull will find other sources of his favored tipple.
Ironic that the fate of "social liberals" is to become control freaks.
Something to do with their statism no doubt. If everyone is supposed to work for the glory of the state then being a lazy drunk pothead is treason. And since they believe the state is supposed to make everyone healthy then they are perfectly willing to ban stuff that is Bad For You. The only reason pot is being legalized right now is because people think it isn't bad for you.
Holy christ, shut the fuck up you whiny little shit. You should really change your handle to "Whineston".
What a whiner.
Thread winner! ..or whiner! ..or Weiner!
Or just a dick.

I can't believe it. It was actually funny.
Kudos to SNL for finally delivering some half-decent political satire.
On an issues most Reasonoids support Obama on, how ironic.
"On an issues most Reasonoids support Obama on, how ironic."
Cite missing.
On an issues MANY Reasonoids support Obama on, how ironic
How's that?
Well, a disturbing number of Reason writers certainly support this power grab.
I think most commenters oppose it, although there are some hold outs.
There has been a pretty loud outcry about it here Winston. Me included.
Reasonoids LOVE presidential executive orders. We fantasize while reading executive orders the same way old women fantasize while reading 50 Shades of Gray.
No, only the ones they like.
A few writers may, but most articles and certainly most of the commenters do not like large scale executive action.
"But even Mr. Executive Order is a little shocked to discover that the president has the authority to unilaterally legalize four million immigrants."
I enjoyed the skit, but I'm not sure this is granting legal status to four million immigrants. A promise not to deport (good for only two years, or until Obama changes his mind) isn't really granting legal status. It's still a gamble for the immigrants in question to come forward and claim this "legal" status.
Illegals coming forward and getting their names and addresses on a list for Obumbles? Why? So the next R president can round them up?
I bet the signup numbers will be as bad or worse than they are for Obumblecare.
Obumbles policies fail and fail and fail and yet it never occurs to him that his policies suck because his view of the world is fundamentally wrong.
Oh yeah, we are talking about a narcissistic personality disorder. What am I thinking? It is our fault. We aren't good enough for his brilliance.
"I enjoyed the skit, but I'm not sure this is granting legal status to four million immigrants. "
That's exactly what the EO is doing. It doesn't make them citizens, but it does allow them to legally work and protect them from deportation.
Yes, it's temporary, but so is a normal work visa. So, it's at least as legal as a green card.
Dude thats some crazy stuff man.

Don't worry: the "SNL" cast will return to worshiping at the Democrats' altar when the next election season rolls around.
And of course they only need to point at this skit to show that they're not partisan in any way.
"Don't worry: the "SNL" cast will return to worshiping at the Democrats' altar when the next election season rolls around."
Well notably, Obama can't run again.
Unless he issues a new Executive Order on that two term limit thing, of course.
