For the first time in decades, the Washington, D.C. police department will begin accepting applications for concealed carry permits. The move is a direct result of a recent federal court ruling that struck down the city's handgun ban.

  • U.S. airstrikes killed hundreds of ISIS terrorists in Kobani, Syria, today.
  • Michigan officials could charge up to 30 kids with felony child porn charges for sexting with each other. We are supposed to take solace in the fact that they will likely be treated as juveniles.
  • Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent John Deasy resigned today. He seems to be leaving on good terms, although some of policies—the iPad debacle, for instance—proved controversial.
  • Ezra Klein faces continued criticism over his support for "Yes Means Yes."
  • Selena Gomez to adult critics: "I wish I could just sit them down and say, 'What were you doing at 15? What were you doing at 18? What were you doing at 21?' Because I can guarantee you it's not half of what I've done."

Okay, which one of you is this this?

Ebola is about to break loose in America. It's already in Dallas and Atlanta. Boston will be its next stop I am sure and soon airplanes, taxis, and the T will not be safe. Don't wait for it to be too late. I have been prepping for about 10 years in the Vermont mountains and have a hidden sustainable bug out shelter well off the grid and completely self sufficient. I only fear that by going there now, alone, I will emerge in 10-15 years to find humanity has succumbed to this modern day plague and I will have no way to keep the species going.

    1. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

I'm kinda jealous of that bunker.

    2. db   11 years ago

I wish. That is a sweet ride.

    3. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

      Hello.

      What's a Selena?

      1. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

A Selena is a dead Mexican.

    4. Ted S.   11 years ago

      I bet it's Warty.

      1. db   11 years ago

I thought maybe Lord Humungus but he rolls open-cockpit.

        1. Lord Humungus   11 years ago

My shelter is a cabin in the woods - heated by a wood stove.

      2. Warty   11 years ago

You should see the montage of me welding it.

      3. Bobarian (dinosaur hunter)   11 years ago

Warty's bug out shelter is also his rape dungeon. He would not be asking about how to keep the species going.

He'd be talking about the new species he created.

    5. Tonio   11 years ago

      PapayaSF, obviously.

      1. Cytotoxic   11 years ago

        Not enough hating on foreigners.

      2. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

Please, if he were a real prepper, he wouldn't be living in fucking San Fransisco.

Much less completely ignorant of the epidemiology of communicable diseases. the great irony of this is despite all his caterwauling, I'll bet dollar to doughnuts that he hasn't one canned good in his apartment, much less some N95 particulate respirators, Tyvek overalls, nitrile gloves, etc.

I, on the other hand, have a well stocked pantry of canned vegetables from my garden in addition to dry goods, 150 gallons of water, a Berkey water filter medical supplies, firearms, a bugout bag and location, and many more tricks up my sleeve.

Based on the quack "natural health" websites he spams the forums with, I bet he has plenty of homeopathic serums and colloidal silver though!

        Godspeed, you lunatic. Godspeed.

        1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

"and many more tricks up my sleeve."

Now why did the idea of retarded rappers, midgets, clowns and whores co-mingling and conspiring to perform acts of sexual debauchery - that may or may not include you - immediately come to mind?

        2. Brandon   11 years ago

I have some Campbell's, a six pack of Lipton Brisk, and a couple of knives, plus a good collection of Star Wars novels on my Nook.

        3. MegaloMonocle   11 years ago

I'm not gonna make it in a full-on EOTWAWKI scenario.

For lesser catastrophes, I have a supply of specie and trade goods (booze and ammo, mainly - the ammo I will exchange for what I need at either 1 foot per second or 2,000 feet per second, your call).

I'd like to have some off-grid electricity (solar is the way to go here in Tucson) and water (its a fargin' desert, so I dunno on that front).

    6. Jerry on the sea   11 years ago

I request that you are fertile and able to bear at least three children with me should we find ourselves in a situation where a decade or more passes before it is safe to emerge.

      Oh right, this is craigslist.

    7. Doghouse Riley Jr.   11 years ago

I will emerge in 10-15 years to find humanity has succumbed to this modern day plague

What, you live in a Faraday cage? You don't have a radio? You don't believe the 2020 Census will find you no matter how well you think you've hidden yourself?

    8. Fluffy   11 years ago

      It's not me, unfortunately.

I am not prepared at all.

So basically if the shit hits the fan I have to find this guy and shoot him and hope no one then finds me.

      1. John   11 years ago

Don't forget to take the girl who answers this ad with you. Shooting and looting is no fun if you don't take their women too.

        1. Fluffy   11 years ago

A Baptist college is expanding in my town so I figure on my way to this guy's shelter I'll just swing by there and pick up a sixpack of Christian girls with daddy issues.

          1. Fluffy   11 years ago

...And this is why there are no female libertarians.

Accepting and issuing are 2 entirely different things.

      1. Medical Physics Guy   11 years ago

I take it it's not shall issue for them then

        1. Injun, as in from India   11 years ago

The SCOTUS dinged IL and DC for not having any due process for handguns. So they're instituting a process, I doubt they will approve applications. NY is like that. (See Kachalsky v. Cacace).

    2. Injun, as in from India   11 years ago

They're accepting permits. There is no guarantee if they will approve any.

    3. Restoras   11 years ago

      Accepting applications, and denying them.

      1. Cdr Lytton   11 years ago

Why deny them? Then the denial can be appealed and it'll be all messy. Just easier to keep them in processing status.

At 15, I won a soccer MVP presented to me by then Captain of Team Canada Bruce Wilson and later was invited to Canada's U-16 try out.

        You fucking cunt.

        1. Ted S.   11 years ago

At 15, I won a soccer MVP presented to me by then Captain of Team Canada

If it were hockey, that would be an honor. Soccer, not so much. :-p

          1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

            No kidding.

But back then our soccer program wasn't that bad. Chaotic and with no sense of purpose but still on par if not slightly ahead of the USA.

            1. Ted S.   11 years ago

I could have been slightly meaner and suggested that your being a soccer MVP explains why Canada's soccer program is so terrible. 😉

Apparently the MLS boss is pissed at Klinsmann for suggesting that MLS isn't such a hot league.

That having been said (I'm not quite certain what the best was to develop the sport here in the US is, except that the goalies have to be in Europe), Klinsmann was right to keep Donovan off the World Cup squad.

              1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

                Meh.

As for Klinsmann, yes, he's a big supporter of playing in Europe. I can see why Garber would be pissed.

Hard for North American players. No doubt about it.

                Klinsmann is a so-so tactician.

                1. John   11 years ago

The MLS will never be a hot league. How could it be? The leagues in Europe dominate their markets in a way no sport could ever dominate this one. It will forever be a minor league and anyone who is good enough to play in Europe and wants to be the best player they can be needs to play there. A top American player playing in the MLS is like Dirk Notwitski choosing to play in the German Professional Basketball League over the NBA.

Damn right Kinsman should want the national team players playing in Europe. You want them to be playing against the best competition they can.

          2. Jerry on the sea   11 years ago

I bet he also won the regional baton twirling championship.

    Alleged terrorists.

They're meeting all of that criteia to my knowledge.

Otherwise, terrorist just means 'brown people'.

Michigan officials could charge up to 30 kids with felony child porn charges for sexting with each other.

The only way authorities know how to help these victims of their own youth is to criminalize them.

    1. Grand Moff Serious Man   11 years ago

How else are you going to prove that sexting can ruin your life?

It's the new Just Say NO!

    2. Every Cop is a Criminal   11 years ago

I think the only adults who would want to check kids phones for sexting pics are the pedophiles.

    3. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

To put it another way, 30 kids are not related to cops or prosecutors or influential politicians.

    4. Bill Dalasio   11 years ago

So, my question is, how do these officials know these kids were sexting one another? Since viewing child pornography, which is what they themselves have designated it, is a crime worthy of severe punishment, I'm sure we can rest assured that they didn't actually see it, right?

    5. cavalier973   11 years ago

Ezra Klein faces continued criticism over his support for "Yes Means Yes."

The shit he got on twitter for saying that the yes means yes law doesn't say a lot about "substantive due process" was highly entertaining. These voxers and the like think themselves intelligent and worldly, so much so that they should design society. They have no clue what in the hell they're talking about.

    1. Medical Physics Guy   11 years ago

The rise of Klein I will never understand. He's not particularly smart or articulate and can't even craft an article with any particular flow let alone rhetorical thunder. He brings no fresh perspective to anything. He's basically a liberal cipher. I guess that's a formula for success right now.

      1. John   11 years ago

It is a mystery to me too. Yes he is a shameless partisan hack. But there are millions of those. If your only criteria is someone who will say anything to defend the party line, there are smarter and better people than Klein that can do that.

Klein isn't even an idiot son of some important person. He didn't even go to an Ivy League school. He is a total schmuck. There is no rational explanation for him ever getting anywhere.

        1. Brandon   11 years ago

He sucks the right dicks and he's a smug unquestioning douche. He's the ultimate power bottom, and God of the yes men.

          1. John   11 years ago

He is one guy you can hire that there is no danger of him ever looking smarter than you. So he has that going for him.

          2. Medical Physics Guy   11 years ago

He is a bottom. He doesn't have the mojo of a bomb thrower or a hatchet man like most of the prog stars. He's like the official beta male of the progressive movement.

        2. Lord Humungus   11 years ago

I don't agree with Mickey Kaus on most subjects, but I respect him for doing his research ... and being plausible in his "predictions" (for lack of a better word).

      2. MJGreen   11 years ago

Unyielding confidence in his vacuity, I guess. He seems to think he's saying something smart, so I guess it must be smart, even if he's really saying nothing at all.

    2. John   11 years ago

The problem with a subject like law is that while it is not that difficult to understand, you do have to understand it or you will look like a complete fuckwad when arguing with people who do.

People like Klein have spent their entire life mouthing whatever bullshit they thought was politically acceptable. So they have long lost the ability, if they ever had it, to think critically or make cogent arguments. It makes it pretty entertaining when they are put in a position where they have to make a cogent argument and mouthing party line bullshit doesn't cut it.

      1. BiMonSciFiCon   11 years ago

I think it's laziness plus a sense of superiority. They (1) think they're very smart and (2) are convinced of their self-righteousness, so why would they bother to check their facts (they already know them) or, god forbid, learn something from their opponents.

  8. Grand Moff Serious Man   11 years ago

Ezra Klein faces continued criticism over his support for "Yes Means Yes."

Look, the man has a BA in journalism from UCLA. Who are you to question his legal expertise?

    RWNJ of the Day:

Dr. Keith Ablow, a member of the Fox News Medical A-Team, on Tuesday said that Obama won't protect Americans from Ebola because "his affinities" are with Africa, not the U.S. "He's their leader."

"He has it in for us as disappointing people. People who've been a scourge on the face of the Earth," Ablow said on Fox News Radio's The John Gibson show. "In his mind, if only unconsciously, he's thinking, 'Really? We're going to prevent folks suffering with illnesses from coming across the border flying into our airports when we have visited a plague of colonialism that has devastated much of the world, on the world? What is the fairness in that?'"

"How can you protect a country you don't like? Why would you?" Ablow asked.

        Because he is an asshole.

        1. Andrew S.   11 years ago

I should've mentioned that it was a rhetorical yet serious question. That much is obvious.

I doubt he articulates it to himself that way, but I could easily be convinced that this is exactly the emotional state he's bringing to the travel ban decision.

      1. Palin's Buttplug   11 years ago

Obama's affinities are so much with Africa he has cut Bush's $5 billion AIDS program for Africa?

Under the Bush administration, about 400,000 more African patients received treatment every year. President Obama's Pepfar strategy would reduce the number of new patients receiving treatment to 320,000 ? resulting in 1.2 million avoidable deaths over the next five years, according to calculations by two Harvard researchers, Rochelle Walensky and Daniel Kuritzkes.

        http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07.....1tutu.html

        1. John   11 years ago

That just means he hates Bush and wants to kill his legacy more than he cares about Africans. And who says people who hate the west over colonialism ever gave a shit about the average African?

You are so stupid skreek is it just epic sometimes.

Nothing about TSA chief Pistole retiring from the agency?

The head of the Transportation Security Administration, John Pistole, announced Thursday he would retire from public service effective Dec. 31.
Anderson University, a private Christian college in Indiana, announced Thursday that Pistole will be nominated to become president of the school by a search committee next month, for the board of trustees' consideration, according to university spokesman Chris Williams.

Is she trying to say that she's had more life experiences than her critics, and that makes her actions sacrosanct?

Seems if she wanted to answer parental critics, she would tell them to pay attention to her products, and stop trying to find out how she's living her life.

Hot SJW-on-SJW action at women's colleges:

"Today a small but increasing number of students at those schools do not identify as women, raising the question of what it means to be a "women's college." Trans students [women who say they're men] are pushing their schools to play down the women-centric message. At Wellesley, Smith, Mount Holyoke and others, they and their many supporters have successfully lobbied to scrub all female references in student government constitutions, replacing them with gender-neutral language. At Wellesley, they have pressed administrators and fellow students to excise talk of sisterhood, arguing that that rhetoric, rather than being uplifting, excludes other gender minorities. At many schools, they have also taken leadership positions long filled by women: resident advisers on dorm floors, heads of student groups and members of college government. At Wellesley, one transmasculine student was a dorm president. At Mills College, a women's school in California, even the president of student government identifies as male....

    1. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

""Sisterhood is why I chose to go to Wellesley," said a physics major who graduated recently and asked not to be identified for fear she'd be denounced for her opinion. "A women's college is a place to celebrate being a woman, surrounded by women. I felt empowered by that every day. You come here thinking that every single leadership position will be held by a woman: every member of the student government, every newspaper editor, every head of the Economics Council, every head of the Society of Physics. That's an incredible thing! This is what they advertise to students. But it's no longer true. And if all that is no longer true, the intrinsic value of a women's college no longer holds.""

If only I had the money to fund various male to female transsexuals to apply to every single women's college in America. Even without my money, how long before this happens? How long before the trannys are marching for their right to attend?

"Hello, fellow coeds, what say we put on our pajamas and have a nice pillow fight?"

          1. Medical Physics Guy   11 years ago

Surely there is more than one mischief-minded male ready to see how far they can go as a "test case". If a guy says he identifies as female and prefers the pronoun "ze", can he join the Wellesley Lacrosse team and share the changing room and the shower? There is at least one guy in the country ready to find out.

        2. Fluffy   11 years ago

          No way, dude.

If I had the money, I would RIGHT NOW be advertising in California that in recognition of the damage done to young men by female sexual assault, I was going to start paying $50k each in "grief compensation" to any male California college student who successfully got a female student who had sex with him while he was drunk expelled.

          1. John   11 years ago

That too. Ashe Schow at one of the DC papers made that exact point. The result of this law is going to be a race to the administration office whenever a hookup goes wrong.

If you are a guy and you hook up with a girl and you find out the next day she has a serious boyfriend that she "forgot" to tell you about and who now suspects something happened giving her major buyer's remorse, what do you do?

If you are smart you run to the administration and claim rape because she took advantage of you when you were drunk. And the way the law is written she is screwed.

This law is going to end up fucking more women than it does men. You watch.

            1. tarran   11 years ago

              How likely is that though?

My guess is that in most couplings where the girl has remorse, the guy is likely to be oblivious to her post-coital conflicted feelings, because men place far less emotional weight towards the relationship side of the equation than women do.

Then you will have the hostile admin that will receive male complaints very differently than female complaints.

They'll modify the rules to include some verbiage about 'vulnerability' and the problem will be solved!

              1. Fluffy   11 years ago

They'll modify the rules to include some verbiage about 'vulnerability' and the problem will be solved!

I'm sure they're warming up the "primary actor" language from domestic violence law as we speak.

I am sure they are fluffy, except that they won't be able to do that consistent with Title IX.

My guess is that in most couplings where the girl has remorse, the guy is likely to be oblivious to her post-coital conflicted feelings, because men place far less emotional weight towards the relationship side of the equation than women do.

Before this law sure. After this law? No way. One of the effects of this law is that college men are going to become very sensitive to whether women have buyer's remorse. How could thy not?

And of course the administrators will scream like stuck pigs when men start using this law. But the language is so draconian they won't be able to avoid it. You will see cases where both parties get expelled.

            2. Fluffy   11 years ago

I think that the people behind this law need an object lesson in what happens when you remove due process and the people around you decide to proceed in bad faith.

Because they don't realize that bad faith is the rule, always and everywhere - and that's why due process has to exist. They need to learn this.

I just wish I had the money to burn to teach them.

              1. Raven Nation   11 years ago

If you remove due process, do you really need bad faith? I think all it would take is sincere belief on the part of the accuser that something improper happened. And, with a bunch of college counselors convinced that men naturally take advantage of women, such convincing won't be hard.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that the requirements for bad stuff happening will be fairly low.

            3. Bill Dalasio   11 years ago

Actually, I made a somewhat more malicious alternative.

Say some guy has a girl he wants to be rid of. Say there's a new girl he's got his eye on. Well, the easy out, without the trouble of an emotional scene or reputational damage is just get in touch with the Dean of Students' office and poof, she's gone!

I'd laugh like hell if this became the biggest weapon in the arsenal of CA PUAs.

      2. Ted S.   11 years ago

I forgot this gem. If you're a woman who calls herself a man, people can take you at your word in weird ways:

"Last spring, as a sophomore, Timothy decided to run for a seat on the student-government cabinet, the highest position that an openly trans student had ever sought at Wellesley....An anonymous lobbying effort began on Facebook, pushing students to vote "abstain." Enough "abstains" would deny Timothy the minimum number of votes Wellesley required, forcing a new election for the seat and providing an opportunity for other candidates to come forward. The "Campaign to Abstain" argument was simple: Of all the people at a multiethnic women's college who could hold the school's "diversity" seat, the least fitting one was a white man.

        1. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

"The post he sought was multicultural affairs coordinator, or "MAC," responsible for promoting "a culture of diversity" among students and staff and faculty members."

        2. Doctor Whom   11 years ago

They're dissing a transman for being a white man, but radfems insist that the biological sex into which a person was born is everything and that transmen are actually still and forever women. So which is it?

  27. Coeus   11 years ago

Oh shit. We're losing the forced narrative.

In the ongoing, head-scratching pseudo-scandal that is #GamerGate, there is a narrative that is starting to take hold that is really beginning to bug me. That narrative, which is a classic example of someone assuming that the "middle ground" is always the most reasonable, goes something like this: "Yes, #GamerGate is a deplorable and misogynist harassment campaign, but there's some poor, well-meaning fools that really did get involved because they have concerns about ethics in journalism."

    And then there's this:

    2) The second biggest target of #GamerGate is an exemplar of clean journalism. If what you don't like about gaming journalism is that it's too cozy with the industry and therefore the writers are afraid to be critical, then your fucking hero should be Anita Sarkeesian. She funded herself with Kickstarter and not industry money. She is harshly critical of video games, even as she is a fan. She is the ideal of what a critical gaming journalist should be: Knowledgeable, critical, fair, thorough and utterly non-corrupt.

    Yes, she actually said that.

    1. Coeus   11 years ago

      But wait, there's more:

      3) The biggest victory to date of #GamerGate has been an attack on ethical journalism. One of the most important ideas when it comes to ethical journalism is that there's a wall between advertising and editorial. Publications are not supposed to let the demands of advertisers dictate content. #GamerGaters hate this rule of ethics, because, as opponents of ethical journalism, they wish to control what journalists say and censor any ideas or opinions that they don't want to hear, no matter how well-evidenced or well-argued they are. And so they have been targeting advertisers, trying to get them to pull ads from gaming websites that publish ideas they wish to censor.

Tell that to George Will or Rush Limbaugh. And no mention that the piece contained verifiable false facts. Just like Amanda's does here.

#GamerGate claims to be about ethics in journalism, when in fact it is about the opposite: Bullying gaming journalists until they get in line with a corporate-friendly agenda of uncritically marketing "games pitched at the intellectual and emotional level of a 16-year-old suburban masturbator

But Amanda, I was told in your last article about this that the criticism wasn't about stopping certain types of games being made. What happened to that?

      1. Winston   11 years ago

"games pitched at the intellectual and emotional level of a 16-year-old suburban masturbator

Huh, I thought only Puritans wanted to clean up entertainment because it appealed to immature men? Does Will Hayes, Joe Breen and the Comic Code guys deserve some apologies? They after all didn't want rape to be depicted.

      2. John   11 years ago

That is some amazing newspeak. Because advertisers won't advertise in publications that insult and demean their customers, it is the customers who are against ethical journalism.

      3. paranoid android   11 years ago

She is the ideal of what a critical gaming journalist should be: Knowledgeable, critical, fair, thorough and utterly non-corrupt.

So I'm gonna go out on a limb here and speculate that Amanda probably doesn't play many video games. Assuming that's the case, what's her basis for claiming that any of those things are true? How can she accredit someone as being knowledgeable on a subject about which she herself has no knowledge?

        1. Coeus   11 years ago

This is who's she's talking about.

          1. paranoid android   11 years ago

Oh, I know all about Anita, enough to know that Marcotte's praise for her is based on objectively untrue premises. But even if that wasn't the case, even if Sarkeesian was knowledgeable and fair and actually a fan, how the hell would Marcotte know that, not knowing anything about the subject herself?

            1. Coeus   11 years ago

Duh. Because she said she was. And SJWs never lie. If you don't believe me, just look at one of their articles, where they link to another SJW who said something unsupported as their definitive proof.

Sarkesian may be half baked, but the psychotic trolls issuing death and rape threats to her and the people on her side of the issue are making her look like the reasonable party.

      1. John   11 years ago

I don't think such trolls exist. I think they are a product of Sarkesian lying or fellow leftists doing a false flag operation. I don't believe for a minute she has received a single legitimate threat. How do I know that? Because she has not taken a single action consistent with her believing she is at any risk.

      2. Coeus   11 years ago

Sarkesian may be half baked, but the psychotic trolls issuing death and rape threats to her and the people on her side of the issue are making her look like the reasonable party.

Those threats have been going both ways. So the same statement applies to her detractors.

    3. sloopyinTEXAS   11 years ago

      Wait, wait, wait.

      1. Coeus   11 years ago

Not only do they play them, they enjoy their "games pitched at the intellectual and emotional level of a 16-year-old suburban masturbator" so much that we're seeing the first large-scale pushback of the SJW media infestation since it began to really gain steam about 6 or 7 years ago.

And the gamers are using the same tactics the SJWs use. Both of those articles I posted talk about how horrible their methods are. The same methods that those publications were using a few months ago. It's beginning to invigorate other areas. Sci-fi is probably already lost, but atheism and comics are starting to notice that the gamers are winning.

A little more bullshit about videogames

Here's why this is important: Had #Gamergate participated in my survey honestly, as a researcher, I would gladly have taken their data. After all, I recognize that they play games, and to exclude their data purely on the grounds of our moral disagreement would be unethical. They would have added a layer of diverse opinions to the data set. I would have valued those opinions. The relationship to data, and ultimately my participants, for me, is sacred.

But instead, #Gamergate left me with hundreds of replies consisting of bald-faced mockery and threats. I understand why: they saw my survey as a chance to lash out at another member of the industry trying to do "SOMETHING with diversity." But really, I was just asking questions, and questions that had been rigorously constructed with unbiased academic oversight: my methodology and construction alone had been critiqued and refined for over two months by academics and experienced researchers.

    1. Coeus   11 years ago

Unfortunately, these warnings were ignored. True, the Fed at least stood up to the inflationistas demanding tighter money now now now; but its actions were at the least hobbled by the chorus. The ECB actually did raise rates for a while, as did the Riksbank in Sweden. And fiscal austerity driven by fear of the invisible bond vigilantes (and justified by faith in the confidence fairy) was the norm everywhere, although worse in Europe.

Cliff tore him a new Asness-hole:

Paul is stuck on step zero (if he ever gets up to "making amends" I will be around but given his history he might never get to me). But, if you'd like to advance past step zero, Paul, we're still waiting on why Keynesianism failed to fix the Great Depression (no doubt not quite enough stimulus; just one more Hoover Dam would have done it, or, as they called it back then, "Dams for Clunkers"), strongly predicted a deep post-WWII depression, didn't predict stagflation, and generally was on a the downward spiral to the intellectual dustbin until the great recession resuscitated it, not as a workable intellectual doctrine, but as an excuse for politicians to spend on their constituents and causes.

Instapundit delivers good anti-lefty red meat. Birth control for deer.

Under normal conditions, all female whitetails go into heat within several weeks of each other and become pregnant at around the same time. This annual event is called the rut. However, if a doe is not impregnated during the rut, it will enter heat again the following month and again the month after that. Because the ligated does were unable to become pregnant, they continued to produce chemical signals of readiness to reproduce ? signals that can attract bucks from miles away.

By preventing pregnancy in does, Cornell had accidentally invented a population of buck magnets that regularly drew in new deer from the surrounding area.

For fuck's sake. If only they could have found some biologists to consult on the program before they started.

They are deer. Their purpose in life is to breed and be eaten by higher predators. There are not any cougars or wolves left around to do that. So, the duty falls to us.

I think some of this is that people have totally lost the ability to face death. The deer are going to die eventually. And doing it from a .270 bullet sounds a lot better than dying of old age or starvation.

      1. Warty   11 years ago

That's pretty much it. A broadhead through the neck or a .270 through the lungs is much better than being hit by a car. Or, for that matter, than being torn apart by a pack of coyotes.

By the way, how's the lifting going? Any GAINZ yet?

Michigan officials could charge up to 30 kids with felony child porn charges for sexting with each other. We are supposed to take solace in the fact that they will likely be treated as juveniles

Ah, the old 'it might ruin your life one day so let's just go ahead and ruin it now.'

  34. Coeus   11 years ago

    Ok, that's cool.

There's an islet off the Pacific coast of Mexico with a pristine beach drilled into its central core like the hole of a donut. This hidden Eden continues to baffle geologists with its oculus of volcanic stone.

Oculus of Stone sounds like a good band name.

Selena Gomez to adult critics: "I wish I could just sit them down and say, 'What Who were you doing at 15? What Who were you doing at 18? What Who were you doing at 21?' Because I can guarantee you it's not half of what who I've done."

    1. Red Rocks Rockin   11 years ago

No shit. She doesn't seem to realize that her fame is due solely to the fact that she's a 21-year-old who looks like she's still 12. The Hollywood Pedophile Complex wouldn't be promoting her otherwise.

  36. Rev-Match   11 years ago

I want to poll Selena Gomez. I mean, to see what she thinks about stuff, you pervs!

For the first time in decades, the Washington, D.C. police department will begin accepting applications for concealed carry permits.

I'll believe they are respecting any semblance of 2A when people actually receive permits.

    1. sloopyinTEXAS   11 years ago

Oh, they'll issue permits. They'll give them to the family members of politicians, cops, bureaucrats and celebs in the DMV.

What they won't,do,is issue them to the poor black people living in crime-ridden shitholes nylon know, the people that actually need them.

  38. Paul.   11 years ago

will begin accepting applications for concealed carry permits.

Their trashcans must be filling up!

That could be taken a couple of ways.

This is the second time I've seen that Ezra Klein article by Shikha and, to be honest, the first sentence is such an enormous verbal speed bump that it's hard for me to get past it. Since when has any liberal ever thought that the "ends don't justify the means" about anything?

  41. Agammamon   11 years ago

U.S. airstrikes killed hundreds of ISIS terrorists in Kobani, Syria, today.

    No they didn't.

Most likely they killed some ISIS soldiers and a bunch of people who happened to be nearby. If you bomb the guys running one of the cafeterias for the US military we would get all screamy about 'non-combatants'.

And that's the *best* case scenario.

We may not like these guys, and you can certainly drum up some decent arguments as to why we need to be in conflict with them *now*, but 'terrorist' is not simply someone who takes up arms against American interests.
