Vatican Changes Tone About Gays, Divorcees

Same beliefs, different way of saying it.

In a dramatic shift in tone, a Vatican document said on Monday that homosexuals had "gifts and qualities to offer" and asked if Catholicism could accept gays and recognize positive aspects of same-sex couples.

The document, prepared after a week of discussions at an assembly of 200 bishops on the family, said the Church should challenge itself to find "a fraternal space" for homosexuals without compromising Catholic doctrine on family and matrimony.

While the text did not signal any change in the Church's condemnation of homosexual acts or its opposition to gay marriage, it used language that was less judgmental and more compassionate than past Vatican statements under previous popes.

True. There is always hope that Catholics will realize how immoral and offensive their lifestyle is. As long as they aren't hurting anybody and don't return to their violent ways, though, we should give them some space.

But they didn't say weed was ok, porn awesome, and cops suck. Not convinced Catholcism. you need to completely embrace all my vices before Id more seriously consider pretending to consider your church. Also where do they get off judging people only judge things when they aren't libertarian enough like TV shows. Libertarianism can't be judgemtal because it is about choice. Catholicism is becoming a smaller % of the religious population over the years. I wonder if evolving understanding of right and wrong is forcing the leadership of the Catholic Church to make this shift. I mean, the church uses the bible to say homosexuality is a sin. The bible hasn't changed. Just goes to show that we do not get our morality from religion.

I don't know who the "we" is in your statement, but I certainly get my morality from my belief in who Christ is (I won't call it "religion" because the New Testament mostly uses that word to describe evil beliefs begun by man).

I don't know where you get you're morality from and I can't be sure where others get theirs.
