Brickbat: You Could Kill Someone With That Shirt

Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School was happy to host a recruiter from the New York National Guard. But they were not happy with some of the swag he was handing out, particularly a t-shit showing a guardsman holding a rifle. The school dress code bars students from wearing anything depicting a weapon. The recruiter agreed not to hand out anymore of the shirts. The students who'd already gotten one were told they could wear it that day but should not come back to school in it.

It was an "assault" t-shirt complete with a "high-capacity" logo and "that thing that goes up".
Also:
School dress code prohibits students from wearing anything that promotes or endorses...illegal or violent activities.
Merely displaying a rifle is not violent or illegal because a rifle, in of itself, is not violent or illegal.
I'm willing to bet that the school wouldn't send a student home for wearing a Che Guevara shirt.
I wonder if they would kick me out for wearing my shirt that says "Jesus is coming" on the front and on the back it says "Are you going to spit or swallow?"
Only if sodomy is illegal in that state.
The students who'd already gotten one were told they could wear it that day but should not come back to school in it.
They weren't immediately suspended? What happened to zero tolerance?
What happened to stripping them and calling the cops on them?
This is just part of Michelle Obama's Let's Move initiative. No longer will they tolerate shortcuts to the sun's out, guns' out mandate.
Did you mean this:
Brickbat: You Could Kill Someone With That Shirt
Or is there a typo in the body?
When I was a senior in high school( 1978) I wore a ' gun control means hitting your target' T shirt to school. My government teacher was a big lefty .Got lots of laughs. All the male teachers were hunters, they enjoyed it.Today I"d be tackled, tazed and punched while being told not to resist
That's interesting. I was in high school in the 80s and the lefties were hunters too and had a knowledge of guns come to think of it.
my government teacher was a women, she believed all handguns should be banned and long guns should be under tight controls.Big on the drug on also
He should have replied 'if not a rifle, what am I going to use if I were to come and save your sorry, politically correct asses'?
Or "someone owes me a fuck".
Either one would do.
Well, there was once a school shooting involving the National Guard.
Weren't those hippies, so it didn't count?
Are you accusing guardsmen of being hippies???
Hey, I only grew my hair out a bit and tried a goatee right after I retired! I am back to near standard now!!!
They were back in the day. Used to be a thing for guardsmen to tuck their long hair under short(ish) hair wigs for drill weekends.

I used to have a T-shit. But it really stunk.

Charles Oliver can't get the link and the spelling right in the same post - it's one or the other.
My high school was Quaker so the rules were way stricter vis a vis this stuff.
Ah the Quakers, the meek shall inherit the earth,well,6 feet of it anyway
Much like law enforcement draws the shallow-minded and droning Dunphy's of the world, public education is clearly a magnet for another sort of mindless and droning carcass in pant suits and ties.
You do realize most of these school codes are purchased from a legal forms clearing house? Enforcement of rules penned by rich lawyers in very distant counties or states comes natural to fucking pub ed. idiots with nothing better to do. Literally NOTHING better do.
Very true,of course my blow dryer has a warning not to use while in the shower, here ya think that came from?
Rich lawyers from Nebraska got to keep people safe in the showers, brah.
The larger point here is that mindless devotion to law is a form of hyper-legalism that erases common sense.
None of these school boards are sitting down with a local lawyer and using basic human intelligence to craft a tailored set of reasonable rules and regulations for that specific school environment.
Many schools are in rural environments where guns are as normal as apple cider and handled with respect by eight year-old's who've shot their 10th deer.
The local public school serves the local community- not a set of arbitrary rules created by some thick-headed 35 year-old lawyer in Michigan who can't wait to drive his 2015 Mercedes Benz back to the golf course after working 3 hours.
It's a bit buried, but you can (for now) find the full dress code by googling: Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk "cover the top"
The school dress code bars students from wearing anything depicting a weapon.
You mean, like this?
Like this?
"Hmm. That article of clothing doesn't actually *depict* a weapon. I'll have to check with the Super."
I mean...what...you...
*shakes head and slowly walks away*
When I was in the 6th grade we were required to take the NRA gun safety course. It was third period, right before lunch. Also, the sheriff's department held a shooting exhibition in the auditorium every year.
These people make me sick. They are deliberately turning generations of americans into pussified sheep.
My high school was built with a rifle range underneath the auditorium. Sadly, the range was remodeled into a locker room years ago.
I posted this a week or two ago. Where's my hat-tip?
And note that the stories never touch on the issue of government-sector recruitment being a perfecly normal thing.
If anyone needed further proof that at least a significant thread of the gun control movement is based in fundamental irrationality, here it is. This is fetishism.
And not even the fun one
Fetishes make for some damn great sex.
Hands can be used as a weapon, so no shirts with images of human hands.
Water can kill people, so no sea images.
What about Three Wolves and a Moon?
People died trying to go to the Moon ...

Please don't tamper with forces you can't possibly control. Leave three wolf moon out of it.
This my firend is why we roll with the punches.

How about Arrow shirts?
What about the polo shirts with that alligator on them? Alligators eat humans in unimaginable ways, brah.
