Hundreds of Thousands March in NYC to Warn of 'Climate Change'

NEW YORK - Over three hundred thousand activists walked through Manhattan on Sunday, warning that climate change is destroying the Earth - in stride with demonstrators around the world who urged policymakers to take quick action.

Starting along Central Park West, most came on foot, others with bicycles and walkers, and some even in wheelchairs. Many wore costumes and marched to drumbeats. One woman played the accordion.

The US accounts for 14% of carbon emissions. 40% of our emissions are driven by the generating plants that the EPA is going to regulate. The 2030 EPA target is a 30% reduction in carbon emissions.

0.14 x 0.40 x 0.30 = 0.0168 = 1.68%

The EPA regulations--if achieved--will result in a 1.68% global reduction in carbon emissions. If the non-US percentage of emissions grow beyond their current 86% then the US reduction would be even smaller than 1.68%. Not even measurable, and yet we're going to cripple our economy to pursue it.

The estimate of 300,000 is the organizer estimate, and such estimates are routinely way overcounted. A rule of thumb suggests the actual number is more like 100,000.

I as a fat slob (along with the other fat people on the planet) am / are all serving as "human carbon sinks" and tying up significant amounts of carbon in our very fleshy bodies. My question is, did all these people teleport themselves there by machines powered by solar panels and windmills, will self sustaining still suits? How many people drove? How many people flew? What's the carbon footprint of traveling in general, from staying at hotels and eating at restaurants etc etc? I'm sure there were many who were studious and did everything they could to leave as small a footprint as possible, but I'm sure that the vast majority blew in and are using inefficient, out of town methods of survival and used plenty of carbon to get their asses there in the first place.
