UK's Cameron Uses Guilt Trip to Beg Scots to Stay
Describes possible independence as a "divorce."
British Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday made an impassioned appeal to Scots to shun independence at a referendum on Thursday that could break the United Kingdom.
"If Scotland votes yes, the UK will split, and we will go our separate ways forever," Cameron said in the Scottish city of Aberdeen.
He laced his emotion with a warning that separation would be painful.

Headline is a bit overzealous - I find no begging or explicit guilt trips. More like veiled threats. "Leave, and we'll make it as painful as possible".
Given Scotland's social climate, I wouldn't be surprised if the nation implodes after seperatation. However I am all for the Scots asserting their independence.
WTF does England get out of "having" Scotland now? Is it as simple as more headcount, tax money, land mass, etc. to claim under "control"?
I would make a horrible prime minister - my stance would basically be " if you want to go, go".
Now, however, the furthest limits of Britain are thrown open, and the unknown always passes for the marvellous. But there are no tribes beyond us, nothing indeed but waves and rocks, and the yet more terrible Romans, from whose oppression escape is vainly sought by obedience and submission. Robbers of the world, having by their universal plunder exhausted the land, they rifle the deep. If the enemy be rich, they are rapacious; if he be poor, they lust for dominion; neither the east nor the west has been able to satisfy them. Alone among men they covet with equal eagerness poverty and riches. To robbery, slaughter, plunder, they give the lying name of empire; they make a solitude and call it peace.
