Jesse Walker discusses his book, The United States of Paranoia, which presents a comprehensive history of conspiracy theories in American culture and politics, from the colonial era to the War on Terror. The fear of intrigue and subversion doesn't exist only on the fringes of society, but has always been part of our national identity. When such tales take hold, Walker argues, they reflect the anxieties and experiences of the people who believe them, even if they say nothing true about the objects of the theories themselves.
While I'm at it: The paperback edition of the book, with a new afterword discussing the aftermath of the Snowden revelations, will be coming to bookstores next month. You can preorder a copy here.

Good luck! Sorry I won't be able to get there...but...work...and I only go to Ann Arbor when my doctor forces me to seek medical treatment at the hospital...
I'll second Almanian's comment. I'm going to a James Ehnes concert tonight, but if you really need me, send out the Reasonoid signal and I'll see what I can do.

Got your book, like it a lot.
Who came up with the cover?
Thanks. Credit for the concept and design goes to Jerrod Taylor (no, not this guy). The phrases we used were selected and put into an order by me.

Wait - I realized this is contradictory. What I mean - I can't come, BUT - if you're in REAL TROUBLE, I'll leave work if I see the Reasonoid Signal.
'k? Good luck out there, Jesse. Watch out for feminists with hairy armpits - they're tougher than the football players.
The place is rotten with hipsters.
