NYC Teachers Revolt Against Union Over Police Protest

Teachers outraged by the United Federation of Teachers' decision to participate in an Eric Garner protest march are urging union members to show their support for the police by wearing NYPD shirts on the first day of school.

The call to action, which is circulating on Facebook and Twitter, comes on the heels of an online petition posted by teachers demanding the resignation of UFT president Michael Mulgrew over the union's decision to participate in a march Saturday being led by the Rev. Al Sharpton to protest Garner's death.

The petition, dubbed "Michael Mulgrew Resign Now," has already garnered more than 500 signatures of support in its first 24 hours. It was started by Diane Morton-Gattullo, a paraprofessional at PS 29 in Castleton Corners, who said union members were "blindsided" by the UFT's decision.

Support a race-baiting Al Sharpton event - or side with the police-state thugs. Rock and a hard place, teachers.

Although I suspect most teachers who don't want to support the protest simply don't want to get on the wrong side of the police "heroes" who they probably see as their partners-in-government/"same team".

For once I can side with the teachers. Since I don't see any connection between the responsibilities of the Teachers Union to its members, and the death of Eric Garner, this must be a personal issue for the Union chief. The fact that the union sees the members simply as tools for personal use should not surprise anyone.
