Truck Bomb Kills at Least 19 in City North of Baghdad

A truck packed with explosives blew up in a city north of Baghdad on Thursday, killing at least 19 people, as security forces and allied tribesman battled to put down an uprising by al-Qaida-linked militants who overran police stations in several Sunni cities.

The Shiite-led government was trying to contain the eruption of militant violence in mainly Sunni Anbar province amid mounting sectarian tensions, fueled by authorities' moves the past week, arresting a senior Sunni politician accused of terrorism and dismantling a months-old Sunni sit-in protest.

Don't forget that the Mesopotamian stink hole called Iraq is an invention of the British in the aftermath of World War One and what remained of a centuries long controlled area of the Ottoman Turkish Empire. The Brits were sniffing around for Oil along with the U.S. and created the place so they could place a puppet Arab King on the throne.

The Whacky Iraqis finally got rid of the King in 1958 and wound up eventually with "Sodomy Insane" whom the U.S. supported against Iran until he (Saddam) invaded Kuwait. That pissed the U.S. and Bush Senior off, so Saddam's Iraq was invaded and we captured him, whacked his pee pee, and then eventually hung him.

All that to end up with a country probably less stable than what they had before, and with a least an equal number killed, not to mention all of the Americans maimed and killed as a result of another US Imperial excursion. What a waste of money and life.
