Brickbat: The Ladies are Insane There
The Spanish government has recommended increasing fines for unauthorized street protests up to 600,000 euros. The maximum fine would apply only if protests turn violent, but those who cover their faces or who make offensive remarks against the country could be fined up to 30,000 euros. The measure now goes to parliament.

OT: so I'm probably going to Barcelona for work in January or February. Any tips on how to enjoy myself, or at least not get trampled by protestors or large animals or separatists or something?
Avoid government districts.
I never went to Barcelona, so I'm not sure if they segregated government buildings areas, but my experience is that European cities tend to be arranged that way.
yeah, don't go to Barcelona alona...
Have an affair with a beautiful and carefree Spanish girl that changes your outlook toward life and then come home and write the 857th novel on the subject.
Sounds like a plan. Juanita, here I come!
Do I have to get a typewriter?

Soon to be a major motion picture.
Damn you to hell. And you too Mr Free.
Only if it is a manual typewriter you found at a pawn shop and you traded the gun you planned to commit suicide with for it.
A series of tattered Moleskines will do in a pinch.
It would be much better if the typewriter was a Clark Nova, beetle edition.
Army surplus. There is blood in the grooves if you look for it.
Yeah...no.
see Barca at home

Sorry, when I head the name 'Barca' my mind went to Hannibal, Hasdrubal and Hamilcar (all of whom were known for their conquests in Iberia, so it wouldn't be out of place to find a Barca Museum there).
Which is what I meant. He didn't die at Libyssa -he escaped to the eastern shore of Iberia and set up a small taverna, where he cultivated a tough, hardbitten persona. Then one day, of all the tavernas in all the world, the girl who broke his heart in Pergamon chose that one to drink in and requested their song.
I prefer to think of last year's Champions League semifinals. 🙂
Thanks! I'll check that out.
I really like Barcelona in the winter. Beautiful city. Not crazy about it in the summer, hot, touristy and frankly rather smelly.
Hop on the train and go to Amsterdam?
That's a long trip. But the Pyrenees are close enough to daytrip by train and are a nice hike.
In January or February?
Sorry for the double-post, but all the antisocial networking shit that H&R is trying to foist on users seems to have brought the browser to a standstill. I must have accidentally clicked "Submit" twice.
Yeah, I get that on my mobile browsers too. Reason needs to can that shit.
In January or February?
No it was spring when we did that, and you still didn't want to go too high.
That sounds great. I love hiking.
Well now that makes a lot of sense dude.

I will just leave this here. Y'all can decide what it means.

My favorite comment (emphasis added):
This word, I do not think it means what you think it means.
The engineers said, "You can have a submarine with a certain mass."
The politicians (or admirals) said, "We want to add weapons to make the mass greater than you recommend."
Gravity (and by extension the engineers) wins again.
Engineers not standing their ground on basic physics is bad engineering in my book.
Yes, this is how people die from poor design/construction.
Not an engineer, but philosophically I agree.
I don't know the facts of the current case, but I'm sure there are cases where the engineers do stand their ground, and the politicians still overrule them.
I'm sure there are cases where the engineers do stand their ground, and the politicians still overrule them.
I see it everyday. Government is little more than idiots telling experts how to do their job.
floatability
Aka buoyancy?
The second Spanish Armada?
This is the result of a kind of Lysenkoism. Socialist politicians invent new contracts to award to their cronies until they overload the boat. They are then shocked that the damn thing wont float, that the laws of physics do not comply with the needs of the party, so they blame it on the engineers.
My first imagining was that the engineers protested during this process, but then I figured only party approved engineers got the jobs. Chances are they were reassuring the pols the whole time that they could make it work.
What do you wanna bet that half the shit they put on the boat to overload it doesnt work?
See also our very own Dear Leader's pronouncements about health insurance, minimum wage, green energy, and...well, hell, everything he ever said.
Catalan leftist politician Joan Coscubiela called the bill "a kick in the teeth for democracy".
How is it anti-democratic? Democracy is about action through the ballot box, not through street protests. It's certainly anti-liberty, but democracy is often anti-liberty, and people shouldn't get away with associating the two where it's not appropriate.
This.
But then again leftists make a living off of conflating different ideas that are often opposed to one another. Their entire ideology is based on it.
Democracy is mob rule.
Nuh uh. Democracy is the beautiful expression of the combined wisdom of millions of people. If a majority of people vote to have you killed, how can that be wrong? Democratically made decisions are sacrosanct. /derp
When do the links come up?
Back in the day they used to be up early, but I haven't been around in the morning for awhile.
Oh well.
Here's some XTC to wake you fuckers up.
Heard this on the way home this morning. By the end of the song I was doing 90 in the snow/sleet/rain, deftly maneuvering my beat up pick up around the sad case monday commuters.
It's not that bad. Their comma means the same thing as our decimal point.
Yet one more way we will be told we should be emulating those progressive Europeans. Government is We The People so when you talk bad about the government you are committing treason. Why shouldn't traitors be strung up from the nearest lamppost?
