Brickbat: The Knockout Game

|

Michael Fisher, a teacher at Willie Ray Smith Middle School in Texas, has been fired after knocking out a 12-year-old boy. Reginald Wells made a joke about Fisher's favorite football team, and Fisher hit him in the shoulder. Wells pushed him back, and the teacher punched him twice in the face. Police say they plan to file a charge of injury to a child against Fisher.

  1. FIST!

    (No pun intended)

  2. Seventh grader Reginald Wells claims Fisher, who was an assistant math teacher, hit him, busting his lip, and knocking him out.

Sources tell 12News police interviewed Fisher Thursday, and that he’s cooperating and feels remorseful and sad.

‘Injury to a child’? How about assaulting a minor or something? Well at least he has a sad.

    1. Injury to a child is a serious felony- it’s what they charge and convict people of when they abuse their kids to death. It ranges from a state jail felony (2yr max) up to a 1st degree felony (life max), depending on intent and seriousness of injury. This one will probably be a state jail or 3rd degree felony (10yr max)- not a “serious” injury, either recklessly caused or intentional.

And if the school didn’t report, a zealous prosecutor will go after all involved for failing to report child abuse. Going after child abusers and their abettors is just good politics.

      1. Looks like the squirrels gave you the 3rd degree, amirite?

        1. He would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for those meddling squirrels!

  3. Note, the school fired him but didn’t call the police because no one made a gun out of a pop tart.

  4. Duty of care?

  5. Was it the Browns? Please let it be the Browns.

    1. My money’s on the Cowboys.

  6. The TV news clip says surveillance video will not be released because children not involved in the incident can be seen.

    Doesn’t pass the smell test.

    1. If only there were some way to make selected parts of a video unrecognizable, say, by changing the pixel size. What would we call it?

      1. Evidence of what happened?

    2. People are stupidly sensitive about showing images of kids, so I really wouldn’t be surprised if that were legitimately the reason. I’m sure those kids would love to be on TV, though. And it’s not as if they guy is getting let off.

  7. It’s time that we, as a nation, ban discussion of sports in public! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
