NYC City Council Nixes Developers' Plans for Midtown East
Mayor-elect ok'd suspending plans approved by Bloomberg to build up the area
Mayor Bloomberg's last major initiative, a plan to allow taller high-rises in Midtown, reshaping the skyline, was shelved Tuesday by the City Council — with the blessings of Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio.
The Council pulled the plug just as a developer revealed to the Daily News a sweeping proposal to spend $200 million on transit improvements in Midtown, including new passageways, escalators and entrances for train and subway users at Grand Central Terminal.
