Ted Cruz is Giving a Really Long Speech About Obamacare

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx.) is on the Senate floor, right now, talking about Obamacare, and he's vowed to keep talking "until I am no longer able to stand."
Technically, it's not a filibuster, because it's not blocking any vote.
Over the last several months, Cruz has led the push to defund Obamacare in a continuing resolution to fund the government.
The House passed a bill defunding the health law last week, but Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he would simply strike the defunding language from the bill and send it back to the House.
Cruz has argued that Republicans in the Senate should delay a vote on the defunding bill in order to prevent Reid from stripping the Obamacare-defunding language, but top Senate Republicans Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn said this week that they would proceed with a vote.
"If five Senate Democrats vote against the majority leader, Obamacare will be defunded," That's a vote we should want to have." McConnell said in a statement. "This is a rare opportunity to defund this law with a simple majority. We should have that vote. I just don't happen to think filibustering a bill that defunds Obamacare is the best route to defunding Obamacare. All it does is shut down the government and keep Obamacare funded. And none of us want that."
You can watch Cruz's speech live on C-SPAN 2.

I eagerly anticipate the Redtards saying that Suderman's straightforward reporting of facts evinces his True Blue colors.
Don't let reality get in the way of what the voices in your head are saying.
Huh?
Every time Suderman reports on the facts, Team Red gets a bee in its collective bonnet. See how sensitive John was to the accusation even though I didn't mention him by name?
Um...OK.
"If five Senate Democrats vote against the majority leader, Obamacare will be defunded
That is a nice little ad to be run against red state Dem senators in 2014. It only took five of them to kill it. And "insert Dem senator here" refused to be one.
Cruz is making the Dems own Obamacare. That is why the beltway establishment is so upset with him and concern trolling about how bad this is supposed to be for Republicans.
Yep.
Plus I think the Dems are afraid of a government shutdown because no on will notice or give a shit.
There language was just as over the top if not more so during the run up to the sequester. Look what a fizzle that turned out to be. They are worried the people might notice that the FedGov running only a slightly tighter budget will look less like The Day After and more like Any Other Day.
All it does is shut down the government and keep Obamacare funded. And none of us want that.
"None" of us want that? Really, Mitch?
I think virtually everyone wants one of those two.
Only us teafuckers want a shut down.
I want a shut down. (waving hand in air)
Just what is a shutdown, anyway? It's not like the federal government shuts its doors.
You mean the last guy leaving DC doesn't throw the switch at the Pepco plant on his way out?
If it's like the 1994 shutdown, I believe there's a lot of sound and fury from Washington, the economy gets slightly better, things run a little more smoothly, and a "concessionaire" in Yellowstone complains about losing $90,000 in revenue and now can't send his daughter to Yale or something.
You have to give the media time to find the stories of people hurt. They're not easy to find, and you have to craft a narrative. This doesn't happen overnight.
I don't see why all Republicans aren't willing to do this. Obamacare is very unpopular, and if the GOP just says, "We hear you and are trying to fix the problem, but the Democrats are so detached from you and reality that they're willing to shut down the government to force this hated law down all of our throats," I don't see how it doesn't work out okay for them.
All snark aside, I don't have any feeling about how unpopular Obamacare is. If you read Reason, it seems pretty unpopular. If you read the polls, it seems marginally unpopular, but the reasons why become murky. Despite some people's disagreement with it, to some degree it's unpopular because it doesn't go far enough, lacks the public option, isn't single-payer-ey enough.
But there's evidence that some non-contributing Unions are unhappy with it because of their cadillac healthcare plans, but I don't see outright calls to repeal it, just calls to 'fix it'.
And Washington loves a persistent, ongoing, never ending law that they can just continually fix until the sun burns itself out.
I can't speak more than anecdotally, but it sounds to me like it's totally hated by everyone on the right or even moderate on economic issues and feared by people of all political leanings, for one reason or another. With the unions thrown in, I think it's a political albatross of the highest order now.
Because the Washington system heavily rewards those Republicans who may talk a good game of fiscal discipline and limited government to the rubes back home to get the votes, but who when in the DC are totally in the pocket of invested crony interest who can reward them and their families with financial gain and leadership roles in the GOP establishment.
I highly recommend this book:

From a center left mainstream perspective, but his account of the problem of the DC culture is pretty introspective and spot on.
Suderman's straightforward reporting of facts here evinces his True Blue colors.
Well played, Fist, well played.
You know who else gave really long speeches railing against stuff?
Fidel Castro?
Kim Jong Il?
Il Duce?
Howard Roark.
John Galt?
Tyler Durden?
No, George Carlin. Sheesh.
Dr. Ian Malcolm?
Can we have a comment competition between my post and Scott's? Just about tied so far.
What's in it for us? Creamsicles?
Oh, for a second, I thought "Creamsicles" was your nickname for Suderman. I am disappoint.
Hey, I left a taunting comment - what else do you want form me?!
er...from
Yeah, we can do that.
Atheism is in fact a religion. Most adherents also enjoy deep dish pizza and circumcising poor, defenseless infants. They also murder people for fun, usually killing at least 5 children.
And they think Janeway is a better captain than Picard or Kirk!
too far
No. And you can rest assured I won't be participating in any such juvenile contest. Oh wait...
You know what you Cosmos need?
Sarah (fucking) Palin showing up at one of your cocktail partiez with an AK-47.
So Ted Cruz is trying to defend all those business owners who are using Obamacare as the excuse not to hire more employees? I can't believe this guy is trying to tell me that small business is actually hurt by Obamacare. How can Affordable care stop people from getting more jobs?
"its got AFFORDABLE right in the title!"
