The Terrobonne Parish, Louisiana, sheriff's office has charged a 15-year-old boy with terrorizing and interfering with the operation of a school. The boy used a smart phone app that mimics a first person shooter game and allows the user to "shoot" anything the device is aimed at. The boy "shot" several of his classmates and posted the video online.

That is one lame-ass charge. The sheriff's office should at least goose it up to "interfering with the operation of a sheriff's office".

Seriously, suppose the kid had posted pictures of his classmates, say, wearing girly ribbons in their hair. Would he have been charged with sexual harassment, cyber-bullying, or both -- in addition to "interfering with the operation of a school"?

What kind of people let their kids be the subject of harassment from the police except under the most grievous of circumstances where they actually caused harm? Twenty years ago, the kid would have been facing a week of detention, not arrested and made a criminal. We've allowed the govsec to drag us down to barbarism.
