Anti-Government Protests in Turkey Continue, Spread, Prime Minister Blames Opposition
Erdogan says don't protest, go to the polls

Tens of thousands of demonstrators reportedly flooded into Taksim park earlier today after riot police retreated, having failed to evict protestors opposed to the park's demolition, which began Monday. Recep Erdogan, the Turkish prime minister who said on Wednesday the protests wouldn't change his mind on the issue, has blamed the broader break out of protests against his government in Istanbul, Ankara, and elsewhere, on the opposition.
Erdogan said the redevelopment of Gezi Park was being used as an excuse for the unrest and warned the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), which had been given permission to hold a rally in Istanbul, against stoking tensions.
But the protests included a broad spectrum of people opposed to Erdogan and were not organised by any political party.
CHP officials called on its members not to take party flags with them to the protests, apparently concerned they would be held responsible for the violence, and party leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu accused Erdogan of behaving like a dictator.
Erdogan says for every hundred thousand protesters, the AKP can bring out a million people and that demonstrators should go to the polls, not protest. Erdogan is in his third term as prime minister, and has ruled since 2003.

Why did Gezi Park get the works? That's nobody's business but the Turks!
Man, is there anything in the world the Republicans aren't responsible for?
The world? How about black holes? Let's think outside the box!
Republicans named them black holes because of their racism.
Democrats think so.
Ask me how badly I wanted this to be parody.
SO BADLY.
Badly enough that Guam might tip over?
PART II: Why Can't It Be a White Hole?
Black hole, White hole, that guys an Ass hole.
Wow, that guy really hates hisself.
Actually, there is some speculation in astronomy/astrophysics that there are white holes. They are at the other end of black holes.
I'm being serious in case you are wondering.
A commentor on the second video (yeah, despite my better judgement I'm compelled to read youtube comments) describes white holes as anuses of light, extruding radiation captured from the black hole at the other end.
Yeah, good things.
"In Turkey, Republicans protest YOU!"
Damn Rethuglicans always trying to hold a government down.

Don't those Rethuglicans know that Erdogan has a mandate from the People? Don't they believe in democracy? Elections have consequences!
Man, what kind of a fucked up country has a leader that blames the opposing political party for anti-government protests?
I'm glad we're more civilized than that.
Yeah thankfully we only have one that cries obstructionists when his policies aren't rubber stamped.
Or when his policies turn out to be complete failures.
"Anti-Government Protests in Turkey Continue, Spread, Prime Minister Blames Opposition"
Yeah, those opposition meanies - always pointing out my power-grabbing, corruption, and the poor outcomes of my policies. Someone should do something about them.
Prime Minister Blames Opposition
Well, they sound like they are seriously opposed to something!
And it's a real pain when the opposition opposes something! In fact it could be a reason to sic the IRS on them!
Or whatever the Turk equivalent is...
You know who else opposed the Turks?
Mike Huckabee?
The Pilgrims?
The guy in that Turkish prison movie?
Jan III Sobieski?
T.E. Lawrence?
Not Ben Franklin.
Mel Gibson?
Isn't Turkey the country where the military steps in and shuts down any undesireable political activity?
Sort of. They see themselves as the protectors of the constitution. When Erdogan's wife started wearing a head scarf in 2007, the military leaders publicly stated they wouldn't hesitate to overthrow the government if it became too Islamic.
Or so I was told when I was stationed there in 2007.
So basically they have the self-importance of the SCOTUS, but with the weapons and manpower to back it up.
Erdogan has successfully neutered the military. He accused the leadership of crimes, put them on trial, and put his supporters in charge.
More than likely the military won't do anything now.
I blame the Venetians for this mess.
I blame the Armenians and the Kurds.
I stepped away from the Internet for a few hours today, and I come back to find that Dan Harmon is back, Matt Smith is out and my cable company's charging me $5 more a month!?
This is going to be one crazy summer, bro!
(I'm drunk)
Drinking is something people do away from the internet?
It's my lonely sport of choice.
Hear, Hear!
I for one welcome our...
Okay, I'm well-buzzed.
Before Krayewski sheds too many tears for the Republican People's Party, he should point out that the CHP is a part of the Socialist International and associate member of the Party of European Socialists.
Then again, Erdo?an is an authoritarian Islamist with a hard-on for the glory days of the Ottoman Empire, so there really doesn't appear to be a horse to back in this particular race.
The real question is whether or not the Republican People's Party or Erdogan support immigrant gay married atheist pot-smoking abortionist pornographers who drink raw milk from their food trucks.
Boom.
Sounds like Turkey needs some Detroit Anarcho-police.
Interesting that McAdams isn't gushing over Erdogan. Presumably because of his support of the Syrian rebels.
Be glad the Call of Duty developer's office doesn't have a dog
From your link, I was going to make a joke about them getting into a standoff with an empty office. But no, they got into a standoff with a statue. Amazing they didn't ventilate it after it didn't respond.
At least it wasn't two old hispanic or asian ladies (forget what it really was) in an office nowhere close to matching the description of the office.
So much rage at the thought of sitting down to play games with the pigs after they point guns at you.
Shit you not, I did this the first day of my previous job. I found the panic button under the desk, and naturally, pushed it.
The thing did nothing. It was set up to trigger the alarms, but not call the cops, because my employer didn't want to pay for the service. And it didn't even set off the alarm. That alone should have sent up a red flag.

By way of Jeff Tucker, NYT reports part of the cause of the protests is a ban on drinking alcohol in public.
How's that?

I blame squirrels and an overactive button-clicking when it was obviously stalled.
You know who else blamed things on squirrels?
Boris and Natasha?
I figure you were drinking too much of that alcohol.
Repeated assertion is not an argument.
To the unalloyed delight of every conspiracy theorist, the Bilderberg Group is meeting again
Doesn't it, every year?
Yes! Pruf that it's a conspiracy!
Yeah, but are they incenerating babies in a giant stone owl this year?
All the AnCaps on Facebook are creaming their shorts because they think this is the start of the revolution. But just like 999 out of 1000 other mass protests, the Turks are clamoring for more government, not less.
So, I was randomly looking at vids on youtube and found these videos of people making structures of tiny magnets. I thought that it would be a cool thing to waste time doing.
Guess that our government wants to protect us from the evil scourge of little magnets.
You literally cannot get away from the nefarious behemoth that is our government. Something so simple and harmless as small magnets is cause for hysteria and control because some kids thought they were edible. Anyone who thinks government is legitimate and or a good idea needs to be force fed a bunch of tiny magnets.
Fucking hell.
Old news is old. Pretty infuriating, innit?
