Jacob Sullum on the Burden of Online Sales Taxes
The Marketplace Fairness Act, which allows states to collect taxes from online businesses that sell to their residents, is expected to be approved by Congress soon. Senior Editor Jacob Sullum says there are plausible fairness arguments on both sides of the debate over the bill. Although there is a way to bridge the gap, he writes, it is not the route Congress seems intent on taking.
