I'm on board with the banana hammock ban.

    1. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

cute name there for budgie smugglers.

      1. Heroic Mulatto   12 years ago

Budgie? Some folks smuggle cockatiels, I'll have you know!

        1. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

Not an eagle? Oh you modest man...

          1. Heroic Mulatto   12 years ago

This dialog has led me to the knowledge that this bird exists.

            1. SugarFree   12 years ago

Birds of prey are not kosher.

      2. Ted S.   12 years ago

FoE, of course, would like it if women don't cover up their fannies. 🙂

  2. Bee Tagger   12 years ago

The Abu Dhabi-based newspaper The National reports

    I blame Nermal!

    1. $park?   12 years ago

That little cat that Garfield hates?

      1. Bee Tagger   12 years ago

Yes. Garfield would always send him in a package to Abu Dhabi.

  3. mr simple   12 years ago

Those caught violating the ban will be fined.

That's really not that bad considering the usual punishment for crimes in that part of the world is death.

    1. Live Free or Diet   12 years ago

      Or getting chunks hacked off.

  4. WTF   12 years ago

I support banning bikinis on fat chicks.

    1. Ted S.   12 years ago

Don't you know fat-bottomed girls make the rockin' world go 'round?

      1. heller   12 years ago

It should be phat-bottomed girls but whatever...

  5. sarcasmic   12 years ago

Looks like you won't see this on the beach in the UAE. Or this.

    1. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

      or this

      1. sarcasmic   12 years ago

Not clicking on that John pron. No thanks.

        1. Ted S.   12 years ago

I'm surprised she didn't link to a photo of some "hot" (to her) guy in a skimpy swimsuit.

          1. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

it's not a skimpy swimsuit so the people of Dubai will still be able to gaze in wonder at this

            1. Tim   12 years ago

              OT:
I was doing the shopping last night and ran across "Dawn Ultra New Zealand Spring Scent"

              http://www.walmart.com/ip/Dawn.....z/17243869

Do they sell American scented soap down under?

              1. Ted S.   12 years ago

Why would IFH give a damn about New Zealand? 😉

              2. invisible furry hand   12 years ago

an aroma inspired by New Zealand's south island, where springs feed glacier-carved streams and verdant vistas

So it smells like a hobbit's toilet. Nice.

There is a gap in the market for American scented soap, which presumably smells like Paul Krugman's damp towels or something

              3. heller   12 years ago

No one wants their hands to smell like farts and cheeseburgers.

                1. Radioactive   12 years ago

                  so not true!

    2. Doctor Whom   12 years ago

      But you might see this.

      1. BakedPenguin   12 years ago

        What about OKC cheerleaders?

    3. PS   12 years ago

We might lack real beaches, but the talent makes up for it.

      1. PS   12 years ago

        meh, http://beautycontestupdate.com.....bikini-10/

  6. Jgalt1975   12 years ago

I'm rather surprised that bikinis at least weren't already banned.

  7. Suthenboy   12 years ago

I think what they have in mind is a world not worth living in.

    http://wonderfulfashions.com/s.....urka-blue/

I am so glad that warm weather is here again and the girls are wearing next to nothing.

    1. Fatty Bolger   12 years ago

I think what they have in mind is a world not worth living in.

Seriously. No beer, no bacon, no bikinis, no thanks.

      1. sarcasmic   12 years ago

OTOH 'wife rape' is not even a concept.

    2. SugarFree   12 years ago

I can see that whore's feet. Stone her!

    3. Agammamon   12 years ago

Unfortunately here the girls are starting to cover up again as Yuma approaches periapsis with hell.

  8. db   12 years ago

About time someone went after those European beach goers with their banana hammocks and overflowing guts.

I remember being at the beach in the Outer Banks with my family when I was a kid and I remarked on the group if foreigners wearing ridiculously small speedos with way too much body fat. My Dad told me "Don't worry about them, they don't know any better; they're French."

  9. Suthenboy   12 years ago

Who was it that said yesterday UFOs will be the next boogeyman when the climate crisis collapses?

I see from the 24/7 that congress is holding UFO hearings. Goddammit, they really are a parody of themselves.

    1. Rich   12 years ago

Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick [said] "if there's something there that we need to discuss, then we ought to be part of that discussion."

      Right on!!

      1. Radioactive   12 years ago

        I weep, I truly weep...

      2. John   12 years ago

Come on Rich, if you were elected President, wouldn't you request the Roswell files on the first morning you went to the Oval Office?

        1. db   12 years ago

You don't get to request that as President. Xorlaxxz and Grubnarz have a nice sit down with you in the Oval office and lay out you first term agenda for you.

        2. Rich   12 years ago

          *Of course* I would, John.

You missed my point about why Cheeks pulls down the big bucks.

  10. John   12 years ago

I don't agree with this. But I would at least listen to a suggest that we impose a body fat limit on such suits. Forget morality, what about taste?

  11. Ken Shultz   12 years ago

I think the Supreme Court here in the U.S. has decided that it's okay if the government mandates that people must wear banana hammocks--but you can't call it a "fine" for not wearing one. You have to call it a "tax".

    1. John   12 years ago

If you could come up with a rational reason for "taxing" the wearing of such suits, I would imagine Roberts would buy it, provided his liberal friends in Washington thought it was a good idea.

Perhaps you could use the tax to create a fund to pay for costs associated with skin cancer.

      1. Mensan   12 years ago

        Quit giving them ideas.

  12. Timon 19   12 years ago

RAK is a very poor, very sparsely-populated part of the UAE. They are probably the most conservative part of the country.

I'm frankly shocked that this wasn't already in place, especially given that Dubai and Abu Dhabi (municipality, if not the whole emirate) usually allows quite a bit at their beaches. Not that RAK gets enough tourists to have to worry about it.

  13. MissMalevolent   12 years ago

Well that's a step up from beheading. And given it's a fine...they probably just found a way to make some revenue for the government...just like every other government on the planet.
