A.M. Links: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac May Need Another Bailout, More Federal Reserve "Stimulus," Seven-Year-Old Handcuffed and Interrogated Over Five Bucks
-
Pull out your mad money! Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are probably going to get another few billion in bailouts from the taxpayers.
- Carmen Ortiz, the prosecutor in the Aaron Swartz case who once planned to ride her conviction rate into the Massachusetts governor's office, recently went to court to admit that her office arrested the wrong man in a gang case. He apparently looked like the guy they actually wanted.
- With the U.S. economy limping along on the edge of a return to recession, the Federal Reserve plans to keep sacrificing hundred dollar bills to appease the prosperity gods. Err … that is, it will continue its monthly $85 billion bond-buying "stimulus" plan.
- Wilmington cops face a lawsuit after reportedly handcuffing a man in his own driveway, slamming him to the ground and then tasering him. Stop resisting, you unconscious, facedown bastard!
- California is number one — in terms of having the top marginal tax rate in the nation for residents considered "wealthy," that is. Please form an orderly line at the exit.
- A seven-year-old boy from the Bronx was hauled out of class, handcuffed and interrogated by police for 10 hours — all over a $5 dispute with another kid.
- Egypt's most prominent Islamic scholar got opposing politicians to meet and renounce violence. Uh huh.

Camden County Man Charged With Murder After Shooting Victim With Bow And Arrow
Maybe now we can get universal background checks for pointed sticks and rubberbands.
Why didn't the laws against murder prevent this?!?!?
They aren't prescriptive enough. It's the laws that ban the tools of murder that are the trick to stopping people from killing other people.
A POINTED STICK!?!?!?
Bow and arrows are military weapons designed to kill the maximum number of people. Good God, how many times do we have to watch Henry V before we ban these things?
Currently there are no laws preventing me from constructing a stealth catapult in my backyard.
Well the neighbors are building a trebuchet. How long before they lay siege?
Well, the town zoning board wouldn't let me build a moat or high, crenelated walls so I am kind of screwed.
WTF do they think the are? Charlemagne?
The first thing any good king does is make his barons tear down their private, unauthorized castles.
Living in the county FTW!
Reminds me of the guy in St. Augustine who just went and built a castle after having repeated dreams about it. It was never intended as anything but a "remembrance to Christ" but has since become a popular wedding location. (An acquaintance of mine was married there back in the 90's.) It's pretty cool looking. Originally it had a plain concrete block look, but it has aged well and has a lot more character now.

The Castle of Versailles (pronounced Ver-Sales).
Even Justified gets Versailles right. You've no idea how much I appreciated that.
The castle out there is pretty awesome. Never been inside, but the outside is worthy.
It used to be pretty awesome. The renovations to the "keep" are very modern-looking and don't match the outer wall and original towers. Now it looks like a Pigeon Forge attraction surrounded by a cool wall.
some french people are building a castle in the Ozarks
What I want to know is what is the true definition of an assault bow? Is it one with the pulleys and aiming sights? Recurve? Long bow? Made of wood? Metal? Does it require those attachments that silence the string?
And arrows, does it count as assault weapony if they're broadheads? Blunts?
I'm so confused.
Earl J. Hickey, is that you?
California is number one ? in terms of having the top marginal tax rate in the nation for residents considered "wealthy," that is.
Phil Mickelson apologizes for this headline.
Yeah, why is he living in some high-tax state -- what is he, a lefty?
You just did something there...and I saw it.
Golf clap. Literally.
I'm surprised Phil has the time, what with perusing all those high end luxury home brochures that are flooding in from Florida.
Adult Film Star Ron Jeremy Hospitalized In Critical Condition
The Hedgehog is down! I repeat: the Hedgehog is down!
If he dies and the appropriate rigor mortis sets in, will they have to bury him in a "T" shaped coffin?
Better bury him 7 feet deep... just to be sure.
EPA moves to ban some rodent poisons
http://bigstory.ap.org/article.....nt-poisons
ban the sale of a dozen rat and mouse poisons sold under the popular D-Con brand in an effort to protect children and pets.
Protect the cats so we can neuter the cats:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....51243.html
Which has fuck all to do with protecting the environment. But anybody who dares suggest a slippery slope is just nuts!
Nuts? NUTS!? My god, children and pets could choke on nuts! BANNED!
-Your loving caretakers at the EPA
I'm pretty sure nuts as well as PB&J sandwiches are already banned at schools, because someone's special snowflake might have an allergy.
They sure are in MA. No more peanut butter allowed in schools.
My child's private school has not on;y banned anything that is nut based, but anything that was made in a factory where nut-based products are made.
Really.
Wouldn't it be easier and more pleasant for the majority of students just to ban people with nut/peanut allergies?
By banning nuts we are only taking away from our children that great treat of all school lunches the - peanut butter bars.
THINK OF THE CHILDREN (that don't have peanut allergies)!
I've long said that calling the slippery slope a fallacy is a fallacy.
If you continue to do that, horrible things will happen.
I ate a bunch of rat poison as a kid. It was delicious. But my mom made me throw it all up.
Damn, SF. Did you wash it down with anti-freeze?
Bulimia is no laughing matter.
I had many misadventures as a child. I also choked once on a nickel and my dad's bright was to hold me upside down and shake it out of me.
*bright idea*
But no one ever taught me to type.
no no, that's genius. A good idea? "My bright!"
When I was 8, I poked my eye with a stick. It punctured the eyelid but - miracle! - did not damage the eye. Plastic surgery repaired the damage. so far my only "under the scalpel surgery".
Does you mom throw it in your face at every family gathering?
"I went to this really great restaurant..."
"Did you eat rat poison? Because you ate rat poison when you were four."
It's a phase all moms go through.
It's a phase all moms go through.
38 years and running is not a "phase." That's a lifestyle.
38 years and running is not a "phase." That's a lifestyle.
My dad is now approaching year 20 of telling people about the time my brother ate some shit he found on the ground outside our house, hoping it was chocolate. As bad as rat poison sounds, I think you're winning here.
I think you're winning here.
I think so as well. Of course, I also get the fact that I bit my saintly grandmother when I was three brought up constantly. And the whole family enjoys the story of me throwing up a banana in church.
What? And you survived rat poison? CANNIBAL BLASPHEMING MONKEY OF SATAN!!
That is fucked up. We have a saintly grandmother too and no one would ever have bitten her.
Banana-throwing, though, that sounds pretty sweet.
She says it was no big deal. My mother is a fan of of making me look bad in every way possible.
Oh, and if you didn't already know this: Everything is my fault. Even stuff that happened before I was born.
Man, I wanna subscribe to your newsletter!

Well, we won't invite her, then. Sound good?
Probably gave you immunity to the mind poison of politics.
naw... nothing but love. Though my old man skipped the ambulance going to the hospital. Instead he threw me in the back of the Chevelle where we apparently vastly exceeded the posted speed limits.
I can attest to vastly exceeding the speed limits when trying to get a kid to the hospital. For those in the know, I made it from Wilmore to the UK hospital in 14 minutes. On the old Harrodsburg Road.
When I was a young kid, I fed my little brother Deadly Nightshade - atropa belladonna - cuz, you know, my parents told me not to eat it myself. Made sense at the time...
I'd have turned you upside down to get my nickel back too you lousy nickel thief!
+1 can monocle polish
I ate a bottle of orange-flavored children's aspirin, so I have that going for me.
I love those things. I'm surprised I never did that.
I'm sure the explosion in rat populations will have no effect whatsoever on the health of teh children.
Bring out your dead!

How dare you suggest that the laws from on high would have unintended consequences? Didn't you know that our bureaucrats are also our betters and couldn't possibly miscalculate their actions?
I live in a state that is overrun by bugs of all varieties and that is becoming overrun by pythons. But they want to take away my poison and my guns.
Gotta love lovebug season.
/Born and Raised in Florida
At least lovebugs just make a mess. And generally stay out of your house.
I'll trade you all our box elder bugs for them.
Florida is like the Arrakis of the United States. Survive our fauna, and you're good to go anywhere but Australia. Where the sandfleas are lethal.
That sounds about right.
And fuck Australia. They can keep their deadly ass shit to themselves.
It's like Death City there. Sorry, you stepped on a fish?. Dead.
Look pal. Those pythons are going to be your bread and butter. You should be thanking the powers that be for presenting you with such an opportunity.
You're right, of course. One forgets when one has to fight off a python for the toilet paper, though.
Is there a child proof rat poison?
So living with rodents is safer for the kids than showing them the poison and saying "don't eat this."

A seven-year-old boy from the Bronx was hauled out of class, handcuffed and interrogated by police for 10 hours ? all over a $5 dispute with another kid.
Never owe money to someone who's mobbed up.
Frances Mendez, at home with son Wilson Reyes yesterday, is furious that he was handcuffed and badgered by police over a measly $5. She quickly snapped a damning photo of the scene
and was handcuffed and interrogated for 10 hours for interfering with a police investigation?
STOP RESISTING!!!!!!!
The photo was definitely a good idea. Look what Ron Thomas of Fullerton got accomplished solely with a photograph of his son.
From the photo with the article it looks like they just happened to have a special pair of kid sized handcuffs around.
A Republican Senator in Tennessee has revived a bill proposing to limit mentions of homosexuality in schools, with an added clause that would order schools to report any student's "gay activity" to their parents.

Example #5842584258036780437580258672765086738675 of why state-run education is the problem.
Yep. 99.44% of all school issues can be solved by separation of school and state.
And get rid of our hero teachers?
I think non-state run schools need teachers.
They do. But those teachers aren't the selfless public servants that union card carrying members of the public government school system are.
How many times do I have to tell you guys? If you oppose the State educating people, you are opposed to people being educated!
Paging M. Bastiat.

Campfield has also introduced a bill that would make families on welfare receive fewer benefits if their children have a poor academic record.
Gotta take the good with the bad, I suppose.
Where is the "good" in that sentence?
with an added clause that would order schools to report any student's "gay activity" to their parents.
Mr. Jones, I am sorry to inform you but your son has show tunes on his Ipad and was overheard telling other students how much he likes Glee.

Joins the drama club.
I hung out with the theater kids in high school. It's one of the best ways that a non-jock can get close to girls.
You are not kidding. I was really stupid as a teenager. If I had it to do over again, I would never skipped football and other sports and been in the drama club and probably taken up figure skating. Someone should have took me aside and explained that parable about the fox guarding the hen house.
I said this the other day, but 43 year old robc wants a time machine to kick 18 year old robc in the nuts.
But actually, I would go back 30 years instead and beat some sense into 13 year old me before high school.
If I knew 1/10 of what I know now, I'd have been waist deep in high school and college snatch.
^^this^^
I was too shy and well, too damn honorable. (I blame my love of reading King Arthur)
"too damn honorable"
That was my problem too. Probably still would be if I weren't attached. Doing the things that people do to get girls has always seemed a bit too slimy and manipulative for my taste.
This x 1000
This x 1000
My problem was I wanted to be Fonzie when I was actually Potsie.
Had a handful of band geeks who liked me, but I had to chase the cheerleaders.
Stupid!
Married the geek. Couldn't be happier.
Band, dude.
Those "One time, at band camp . . ." stories from American Pie are there for a reason.
No musical skills. But every stage production needs people that can stand in the background and not pick their nose.
Most people in the high school band didn't have any musical skills either. I was one of the few who did. As section leader, I actively asked some of my section to NOT play. They didn't care, because between the actual band members and the flag/baton girls band was a pussy smorgasbord.
It really is a South Park episode. Cartman goes around informing on everyone for "gay activity".
Yes, because a bunch of dudes in tights slapping each other's asses when they throw a ball well and then jumping in a big dogpile is the most hetero thing ever.
It's always been my theory that sports, particularly contact sports, are the social outlet development specifically for the purpose of exercising our homosocial tendencies in a socially acceptable manner. It's how we get our Greek on without the fear of being called a fag.
I think it was Robert Graves who said something about boys schools fostering homosexuality. With no girls around there has to be a sexual outlet somewhere.
There is no sport gayer than wrestling.
Soccer
nowt effeminate about football, son
Gay Olympics!
It's idiotic shit like this that prevents me from moving to places like Tennessee.
That, and the country music.
You don't have idiot legislators in your state? Or are you a closeted gay public school student?
Oh I have plenty of idiotic legislators here. I'm just not down with quasi-persecution of teh gays. I assume (yes, I know that's a bad idea) that this asshat is doing so to win votes, leading me to assume (2nd deriviative assumptions are almost always wrong, I know) that the people being kowtowed like this idea and are ZOMG rabidly anti-gay.
A little rational thinking leads me to believe that, generally speaking, most people don't give a crap what anyone else does with their business - unless you are a left/right-wing douchebag.
"left/right-wing douchebag"
That's IT!
Ridilin for everyone!
I googled this story and its shocking how quickly its growing legs. It shouldn't continue to amaze me that a no-name republican state senator can fart and make news, but a US senator can exploit underage, 2nd world hookers and avoid scrutiny so long as he's a democrat.
Why do the religious nuts have to be so goddamn active in politics? I can't wait for the religious faction of the GOP to enter hospice care so the party can finally be turned over to the libertarian wing, the only active and enthusiastic group they'll have left.
Except for that huge overlap between the religious and libertarian factions that elects the handful of libertarian- leaners we have in Congress.
I never understood the overlap to be significant at all because of the gay marriage issue. Did I miss some sort of game-changing truce last election cycle?
A STRAIGHT US Senator, thank you very much. If he'd been soliciting the lads of D.R. I'm sure he'd attract more notice.
They just can't help themselves can they? Like a moth to the flame.

How is it that everything bad that ever happens in "unexpected?" How can analysts and policymakers be so wrong so much of the fucking time yet still retain their jobs?
Jesus Fucking Christ.
I would find it to be "unexpected" if the economy grows this quarter. In the business world, it is pretty obvious the economy has pretty well stopped.

Of chicks who acted on House, I will take Jennifer Morrison any day.
On a slightly unrelated topic, any one else catch the 1st episode of The Americans last night?
I enjoyed it far more than I expected. I like the period. Its set in 1981, Reagan has just taken office and the Russians are freaking out over it. Plus, they used period music.
I realized the daughter in the show, would be just about my age at the time, actually, 1 year older, as she is 13 in 1981 and I was 12.
comedy? drama?
Drama. Although it stars Keri Russell, so maybe its a comedy.
Its about two Russian spies who have been living as a married couple in NoVa since the early 60s.
Damn it, I forgot it started last night. Does it seem like it will be worth following?
Yeah, I think so. I set it as a series recording on my DVR. But Im easy that way, but if it bores me, it will get deleted soon enough.
I bet they re-air the pilot sometime this week, it is cable.
One unintentional hilarious (in a sad way) scene, they are arguing about their kids and how they agreed to not tell them anything and let them have their own lives.
Wife: They can be a different kind of Americans, socialist or ...
Husband: No they wont, this place doesnt create socialists.
That may not be word for word, but clearly he didnt anticipate Obama.
Also, there is a flashback scene of them at a motel when they first arrive in America and complaining about the climate. Then they discover the AC in the motel, and they just stand in front of it, enjoying the amazing cold air box.
The 80's were a simpler time...
Cool, I'll check it out. I just have to be pretty selective these days since I don't have too much time to waste on bad tv.
I thought Cameron, the character, was the best female character they had. Thirteen was a slight step down and then they really tumbled after that. Although, I'm probably the only person in existence who thought Masters could have been interesting had she stuck around longer.
And with Masters we could have had the spectacle of watching Amber Tamblyn's ass get noticeably fatter every episode. That lab coat was doing God's work for some of the chubbiest hips in America.
I kind of liking the new characters from the last season, even though the show was obviously dead, I liked them better than group 2.
Me, too, though they would occasionally forget her character and have her do things that made no sense for her. I think the random event generator they occasionally used for House got misplaced.
I was 22 in 1981. I may have to watch it out of curiousity to see what they get right and what they get wrong.
Architecture, for one thing.
The elementary school looks exactly like what I remember the ones built in 1960s/70s looking light.
Im not sure they have the clothes right. But the suits look about right.
Does it have lots of chicks walking around in shiny spandex with goofy headbands and legwarmers?
That is what I remember from 1981
I think that is a few years later, IIRC. In 1981, we still werent over the 70s entirely.
As a noted fashion blogger the shiny metallic spandex first apppeared in public as swimsuits, disco pants and dancewear in the mid/late 1970s.The early 1980s was the period in which women would actually shop at the grocery store and go to class and such ostensibly on their way to and from aerobics class but actually looking trying to look like a bunch of science fiction hookers of the future.
The cars are period accurate, there was even a joke about not buying a japanese tiny car.
I was born in 1981, so I don't have much recollection of the time period.
I wouldn't worry about it. Your birth probably isn't worth remembering anyways.

Yikes! Economy shrank in fourth quarter for the first time since '09
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....9/?hpid=z1
But Shreek and Tony and all of the media assured me the economy was doing great. You mean they were lying?
Not lying, just stupid and deluded.
But let's look under the hood. The overall number disguises strong consumer spending and business investment in equipment and software, which zoomed upward.
You could even say the strength of consumer spending and business capital expenditures is the bigger surprise, more than the contraction. Why? Because the fourth quarter also featured a bitter presidential contest and a Washington battle royale over the fiscal cliff, both of which dampened consumer and corporate confidence.
The healthy consumption and business investment pictures were bolstered by another report out today showing that the labor market continues to heal. Companies took on more workers than expected in January, with an increase of 192,000, according to the ADP Research Institute.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/.....umber.html
Markets agree with Bloomberg.
A contraction is really an expansion!! That is not even worth posting the screaming monkeys for.
Strip out the governemnt spending funded by debt and the economy has been contracting for awhile now.
And stop feeding the sock.
At the same time, however, corporate spending on equipment and software climbed at a 12.4 percent pace, contributing 0.86 percentage point to growth. Residential construction increased at a 15.3 percent rate. For all of 2012, homebuilding climbed 11.9 percent, the most since 1992.
Same link.
And the economy contracted and jobless claims rose. That is called a recession. Shut the fuck up Sock Puppet.
That is not what a recession is, you dumbass.
It takes two quarters.
It takes two quarters.
That sounds like the same lame assed excuse that a TEAM member would make.
The bump in income and the corporate spending were themselves "one-time factors" as people tried to get ahead of the 2013 tax increases.
So there's that.

And even with all of the artificial demand caused by the strategic behavior related to the tax increases, the economy still contracted. I bet it falls off a cliff in the first quarter of this year.

E15 gas can ruin engines. It was rushed through without any real study by one group of central planners because some other central planners decided on an arbitrary goal for renewable fuel use.
Look. It was never intended to ruin engines. It was intended to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. By criticizing the results you have questioned the intentions.
Why do you oppose reducing our dependency on fossil fuels?
If you don't have an engine, you don't need fossil fuel.
Why does anyone need an engine that holds more than one piston, anyway?
Is it an an assault engine?!!

Shreek is up thread informing us the economy contracting is a good thing. So, yeah I wouldn't be surprised.
Hmmm, no word on whether or not the dogs were shot when police finally arrived.

This can't be. The word "Affordable" was used in the Act. It can't actually do the opposite! IT CAN'T!
So I went to an LEO Conference to remain nameless this week. And there were people there from Connecticut and of course the actual facts of Newtown were pretty well known. And unsurprisingly what has been reported in the media is mostly half truths. It appears the kid was obsessed with Halo. He played it pretty much during all waking hours for months. He had told several people he planned to beat the "score" of that mad man in Norway. They actually have security tape of most of the incident. And every move he made was modeled after the moves in Halo. The whole thing about revenge against his mother is all bullshit. He was just totally gone and somehow crossed reality with the game he was playing, right up to killing himself so he could keep his points.
Clearly we need to ban Norway.
what? No A-Ha?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCkbfyk6XGc
Obviously the solution is universal background checks for all game purchases.
Funny how the media hasn't reported that. If it got out, there would be a hurricane of stupid directed at Hollywood and the video game industry. It is almost like they are lying so the fire is directed at the gun industry or something.
"It is almost like they are lying so the fire is directed at the gun industry or something."
What difference, at this point, does it make???!!!
Ironically, or not, or whatever, his mother probably bought the game for him.
"killing himself so he could keep his points"
it's been awhile since i played. what does this mean?
I don't know. But I am told that in Halo if you kill yourself you keep your points for the next game but if someone else kills you, you lose said points. That is the one point of the story I am skeptical of. But I don't play Halo so I don't know.
I play Halo. That makes no sense.
We need common sense regulation of media reports of mass shootings. Why does anyone need to report a story more than once?
Im pretty sure I saw that movie. It starred Tom Hanks.
Yeah, because second and thirdhand gossip from cops is the gods own truth.
I like how in the headline the Chicago paper says the criminal cop was charged with extorting a tow truck driver but neglect to say that he was also charged with selling a handgun to a felon.
After all, it has to be those icky Red States that are getting guns into Chicago. No way it's their corrupt police officers.
Supercop or child rapist? Officer tries to be both but fails.

Horseshit. I've been assured over and over again that there is no such thing as blowback.
Because they would love us if we would only give them a chance.
And killing them is the only way to make them love us.
I know sparky. The best way to deal with someone who launches a holy war aimed at killing you, is tell them you love them. Whatever you do, don't try to stop them or fight back. That will just make them more angry and cause blowback.
Whatever you do, don't try to stop them or fight back.
If they still hate us, it's because we're not killing the right ones I guess. Or that we just need to keep killing them until they stop hating us. One of those has to work. Either that, or we just need to kill them all.
You don't get an end to a war until your enemy loses the will to fight. As long as they keep trying to kill us, we are going to have to keep trying to kill them. It sucks but that is the way it goes. No amount of wishful thinking and "why do they hate us" thumb sucking will change that.
Even if you buy into the blowback theory, which I don't, what are you going to do now? It is not like if we stop defending ourselves they are just going to forget everything and go home.
It is not like if we stop defending ourselves they are just going to forget everything and go home.
And by defending ourselves you mean sending drone bombs to kill them in their own homes on the other side of the globe. They aren't the ones who have any going home to do, they're already there.
A "third way" would be perhaps something along the lines of how the British dealt with very real threats from the IRA. Police work, essentially. The Brits didn't maintain a blow the shit out of everything campaign in Northern Ireland.
Right now, it seems like we are trying to squish cockroaches with a sledge hammer-- it's not efficient. We aren't killing roaches, but we are smashing holes in the floor. Could the US possibly try a different way to counter these terrorists? Or will it always be sledge hammer?
Maybe. The Brits had the advantage of playing on their home ground, and even so there were serious threats that they didn't detect and stop. In the end they had to compromise through a political process, and while that might have led to some peace, it required (i) allowing murderers to go unpunished and (ii) dissidents from the peace process maintaining the rage and (for some) morphing into criminal gangs who prey on their own communities
Interesting, though...how would the UK handle an IRA resurgence now? You can bet drones (at least for surveillance at first) would play a role.
Even if you buy into the blowback theory, which I don't...
John, Osama Bin Laden was explicit that he organized 9/11 because of US foreign policy. He named support for Israel, troops stationed in Saudi, and the USS New Jersey's shelling of Lebanon, in particular.
If not blowback, how do you explain OBL's rationalization?
Because OBL was a psychotic who wanted to over throw the Saudi Royal Family and recreate the 8th Century Islamic Empire. You can't placate psychotics. You clowns honestly think that if we had just been nice to him, he would have left us alone. He also wanted Spain to be Islamic, I am not sure Spain would have gone along with that plan.
"You can't placate psychotics."
Maybe not. But you can set them off. If the US hadn't been in Saudi, supporting Israel and bombing Lebanon, it seems likely that 911 wouldn't have happened. He'd just be attacking Saudi Arabia and Israel.
Now, that's not to say that there were or weren't good reasons for the US to have the foreign policy it did. But blowback is still blowback, even if the trigger of the blowback is perfectly justified and appropriate.
Even if you buy into the blowback theory...
How come the blowback fools never say that our bombing weddings is blowback for 911 and al Queda. And therefor the best way to get us to stop bombing weddings is to stop the death to America rhetoric?
And therefor the best way to get us to stop bombing weddings is to stop the death to America rhetoric?
So you're happy to meet talk with death? Good to know. Makes me appreciate the 1st Amendment a little more.
Not sure, sparky, but I kinda remember something besides talk on 9/11, don't you?
"How come the blowback fools never say that our bombing weddings is blowback for 911 and al Queda."
I don't know. I bet some do. But that is a good way to put it. It goes both ways. I guess you'd consider me a "blowback fool", but I am going to start saying exactly that.
If they still hate us, it's because we're not killing the right ones I guess. Or that we just need to keep killing them until they stop hating us. One of those has to work. Either that, or we just need to kill them all.
Wait, is that a foreign policy statement or the latest motto of the Fraternal Order of Police?
Somebody flipped John's troll switch and I got suckered in. Again. *sigh* One day I'll learn my lesson.
Sparky,
I was the one who was trolled by the same stupid tired arguments made by Libertarians no and forever facts be damned.
It is the classic blind spot nearly every Libertarian has. They think that because they are rational everyone else is. They really cannot conceive that someone out there might not think like they do or might not give a shit if they want peace or not.
Yep, it's a giant blind spot to think that seeing your neighbor get bombed might cause you to hate the people responsible for the bombing. Please tell me that if your neighbor got blown up by a Russian missile because they thought he was a terrorist you would just sit back and think he must have had it coming.
Yep, it's a giant blind spot to think that seeing your neighbor get bombed might cause you to hate the people responsible for the bombing.
The huge surge in military enlistment in the US after 9/11 was just a coincidence.
The huge surge in military enlistment in the US after 9/11 was just a coincidence.
So our response to 9-11 was justified? Wow, that is news in libertarian land.
"So our response to 9-11 was justified?"
Whether or not it was justified, it was an understandable and predictable response to the 911 attacks.
I think you make a mistake in assuming that calling terrorism blowback from US foreign policy necessarily means that US foreign policy was wrong. IT could very well be (I don't think so, but it could be) that US foreign policy was exactly what it needed to be in the Mid East. That doesn't change the fact that 911 was a reaction to that foreign policy. If the US had nothing to do with supporting Israel or keeping and using military forces in the area, I find it hard to believe that 9111 would have happened. That doesn't mean that 911 was our fault or that we necessarily should not have the foreign policy that we do. Even crazy people do things for reasons for the most part.
Yep, it's a giant blind spot to think that seeing your neighbor get bombed might cause you to hate the people responsible for the bombing.
So you would be understanding if everyone in the city of New York wanted to and made war on the entire middle east after 9-11? Odd how blowback only works one way.
It is just a fantasy you people tell yourselves because the actual truth, that there are some people in the world who really do mean you harm no matter what you have done, is apparently too hard to contemplate.
So John, do you really think that had teh US not supported Israel and kept troops in Saudi, etc. that 911 still would have happened?
The US is seen as the big enemy for a reason. It might be a stupid reason, but it is not arbitrary. To me anyway, that is all that blowback means.
So you would be understanding if everyone in the city of New York wanted to and made war on the entire middle east after 9-11?
Seems like that's exactly what happened, with a little extra backup provided by the feds. Was war with a concrete objective declared? If so, was that objective reached? If so, shouldn't that war be done? I guess that's the great thing about revenge, it gives you cause for a never ending war. We get revenge, they get revenge for us getting revenge, we get revenge for them getting revenge for us getting revenge, ad infinitum.
that there are some people in the world who really do mean you harm no matter what you have done
And the best way to deal with people who say bad things about you is to kill them.
And I am sure the people doing this are from Iraq and Afghanistan. You know the places were we are. None of them could be from countries like Egypt or Saudi Arabia where we have sent billions in aide over the years.
You just don't get it John.
Nationalism is an illegitimate concept for Americans but a completely valid one for Arabs.
And blowback only goes one way. No Afghan would ever be expected to ask "why are Americans bombing us".
"No Afghan would ever be expected to ask "why are Americans bombing us"."
What? Why would you think that? You are getting into straw-man territory here.
"Nationalism is an illegitimate concept for Americans but a completely valid one for Arabs."
Who the fuck ever said that? Pointing out a possible reason why something happens is not the same a approving of those motivations. Arab or Muslim nationalism is even worse and more harmful than American nationalism. But it is something that exists in the world that you have to take into account when doing things like bombing people.

Seriously? 250 million. Give me a break. Why not make it a billion? The police were probably trying to find the cracked out mother and it took ten hours.
Remember, people. These are the fine men and women charged with protecting all of us and protecting us equally under the law.
One thing about cops that find particularly offensive is the racism. I live in the South so it's not particularly surprising but their are also a lot of cops/ex-cops here from NY/NJ/CT and the shit they say to each other in the gym when they think nobody is listening is terrible.
Because judging people by race is stupid but judging people in an entire region is science.
Look, I've lived in South Carolina my entire life, racism exists here, ignoring that fact would be stupid.
I lived in Augusta, GA for 2 years and my parents retired some years ago to Hilton Head and I visit them regularly. And yes there is racism inherent in certain parts of the south. But the most racist people I've met were the retired city employees from New York and New Jersey. heir hared for all things black would make a Grand Kleagle like Robert Byrd blush.
*Their hatred -- stupid T key.
Hilton Head sucks.
Believing it is somehow limited, or even more egregious, in the South is also stupid. Your "what I should have said" below pretty much covers it.
What I should have said is "it's not surprising to me, based on my experience growing up in SC, that some of the cops here are incredibly racist but a lot of the cops from supposedly more tolerant regions are also incredibly racist."
I got your point. The South doesn't have a monopoly on racism. Don't tell anyone, but there are racists in Yankee states as well. There are racists in California, too. Why some I have encountered have been enlightened progressives as well. Funny what some white people will say to you, if they think they are in "safe company".
Even way up north in Minneapolis, there are racists. Some of them are even black and man do they hate white people!
Blacks are a minority, so they can't be racists.
As for the handcuffing, it's done to everyone as policy for officer safety at a lot of departments

Dominican prostitute: Senator Bob Menendez 'likes the youngest and newest girls'
http://dailycaller.com/#ixzz2JZ3N8aSL
Why hasn't the Democrat party asked him to resign yet? I honestly had never heard of him until this story came up in November. Its not like he's a D party rising star like Anthony Weiner was.
Because he didn't say something embarassing about rape.
In a little-noticed email published online Wednesday by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a young Dominican woman wrote nine months ago that she slept with 59-year-old New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez at a series of sex parties organized by Dr. Salomon Melgen, a longtime Menendez campaign donor.
"That Senator also likes the youngest and newest girls," the woman wrote on April 21, 2002, according to an English translation provided to The Daily Caller by a native Spanish speaker.

Larry Craig cruising for blowjobs in an airport with consenting adults was worthy of front page news for weeks. Menendez potentially being a kiddy didler taking illegal sex jaunts with a donor is not even worth reporting. But there is nothing biased about the major media.
Larry Craig put in a guilty plea before the story went national.
Remember, Dave Vitter's whoremongering was ignored after he admitted to such in a press conference.

Nothing says Democrat and caring like molesting underaged hookers.
In Menendez's defense, he was really big on helping people turn their lives around. In fact, he even hired a sex offender for his office.
Why focus on TEAM RED guys shreek...not a word about Menendez. One could be forgiven for thinking you were little more than a shill for TEAM BLUE.
Well, they couldn't allow this to come out before the election and risk a republican winning Menendez's senate seat.
Unless they had a video and the kid 5, he was going to win.
I didn't say it was a big risk.
Has anyone watched Boardwalk Empire?
I've watched the first two seasons and so far my reaction is meh. Should I continue?
Third season picks up a bit, much more action oriented, but still soapier than a bar of soap in some places.
Season 3 is even darker, but if you don't care about the characters why bother?
i thought season 3 was better than season 2. but if you're not into at this point, i don't know that i'd continue
oops - I only watched the first two episodes of season 1. I blame the lack of coffee.
they're still setting out the bones of the story. Give it another one or two
okie-dokie
Its meh all the way down the line.
Except for all the nude Paz de la Huerta
Season 1 is a bit of a snoozer. The second season is more exciting, and the third is even better. It was probably my second favorite show last year.
As for the handcuffing, it's done to everyone as policy for officer safety

Officer safety ... If I had to handcuff a 7 year old for my safety, I'd consider quitting the police force and finding honest work.
Motherfucking fuck! Do you all want a Balko-style kick in the nuts today? Do you? Well here you fucking go!
FTA: The D.A. went on to say quote: "This office expresses its condolences to the Williams family for their tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. While there was no criminal intent to kill, mistakes were made. In the hope that this tragedy will not be repeated, this office will be meeting with the police departments involved."
By the way, PoliceOne's response is that the DA should STFU on police procedures and air his grievances in-house only.
Numerous officers from several departments were helping Overfield Township police on the scene. The D.A. says two of the officers broke down a bedroom door, fell to the floor, and that's when Brian Williams went after them with a fire poker.
First officers shot Williams with Tasers, when that didn't stop him, Officer Mark Papi of Tunkhannock Township police shot and killed Williams.
He was unarmed. He didn't comply. That doesn't justify deadly force. A bunch of fucking baboons with weapons. If you are too fucking big of a pussy to subdue a single guy with a fire poker when there are five of you and you have tazers, you are pathetic. They were just fucking lazy and stupid.
Procedures were followed, citizens were shot, needz moar training;
hth
This makes me wonder: how easy would it be to deflect or tangle up a tazer shot with a broom handle or similar item?
Holding a broom handle in proximity to a cop will get you shot. Immediately.
And being in the proximity of a cop holding a broomstick will get you assraped in a Precinct House.
I dread the day when a bunch of these Keystone Kops antics end up with a bunch of dead coppers. That'll really make the gun-grabbers go nuts.

Why do you hate the children, Brooksie?
Both the AR and a handgun. But even the cops admit there was nothing special about the AR. He was walking around shooting first graders at close range, including some of them laying and hiding behind book cases.
Why no Coroner report to state such?
I am not sure those have been released.
That is my point. If he didn't mow all those kids down with an evil AR, it would be inconvenient.
Because they would love us if we would only give them a chance.
There can be only two alternatives!
That is right Brooks and every single action by every nut in the world is the result of the all powerful US. It is all about us. We can totally control the world by just changing what we do.
It is all about us. No one would ever just hate us for a nutso reason or because that is easier than dealing with reality. Nope. Never.
We can totally control the world by just changing what we do.
It's funny that you say it sarcastically when you're the one who actually believes it. If we just kill enough, they'll stop hating us.
Yes, if you do enough damage to your enemy, he will lose the will to fight. That is how wars have been won since they started having wars.
Guess the only thing to do is roll up the sleeves and get to some serious killing. If drone barrages aren't enough to make them lose their will to fight, how come the military isn't going bigger? Seriously, just march a force right in there and kill everyone who doesn't bow down in praise.
Guess the only thing to do is roll up the sleeves and get to some serious killing.
That would be war and that is why it sucks. You have to kill your enemy and break his shit until he finally loses the will to do the same thing to you.
B-but John! Killing the militants will make more militants! Like a blowback hydra! And you'd see it too if you weren't poisoned by NEOCON constructs like 'history'.
Cytoxic
In Libertarian world, no one ever won a war by killing his enemies. Wars are won by you dying. Didn't you know that?
B-but John! Killing the militants will make more militants!
Yes, because all the militants that will ever exist already existed before we ever retaliated for 9/11. And friends and family of people we murder with drones never, ever get angry about it.
You reason like a blood-thirsty three-year-old.
Yes, because all the militants that will ever exist already existed before we ever retaliated for 9/11.
You really are not this stupid Sugar Free. I will just give you a pass. But think about what you are saying? Has it ever occurred to you that there might be other reasons for doing this shit than base revenge? And if it were just about revenge for the dreaded drone strikes, why aren't their Afghans and Yemnis running around doing this mostly? Al Quada is full of Saudis and Egyptians and European Muslims and even some Americans. They generally are not from any place the US has ever bombed. And they were bombing US targets in the 1990s long before the US ever got into any wars in the middle east, other than the first Iraq war which no one remembers.
Maybe instead of blow back there is this totalitarian ideology that appeals to a lot of people out there and gives their life meaning. Maybe some people are just crazy fucks who like killing and like excitement and are also drawn to said ideology. Maybe people have reasons to wage war on the West beyond some sort of 8th Century blood feud. It is not like people haven't bought into murderous totalitarian ideologies before.
You are so wedded to the idea of blow back and the evil Americans being responsible for everything, it prevents you from thinking rationally. No, you are thinking like a three year old. And sadly, I think at some level you know it.
Goddman, John. Are really so ignorant of history to think Gulf War I was the first time the US had any dealings in the Middle East? Really?
I'm not wedded to anything, just sick of self-serving warmongering bullshit. Blowback exists. That's what 9/11 was. It wasn't a random attack. I won't pretend otherwise so Cytotoxic can have his war porn.
Some of them are crazies, some of them are people we have pissed off, some of them are motivated by religious cuntshit, some of them are deluded into this clash of civilizations bullshit. Your strawman that people who object to the immoral drone war and endless occupation don't understand this can only take so much of beating.
What Cytotoxic wants is for there to be no consequences whatsoever for occupation, interventionalism, and drone assassinations. Well, there are consequences. So maybe, so fucking maybe, we should give some thought to how we conduct ourselves in the world. Which is not a call for pacifism or anything other shit you want to make up about me.
The point of blowback isn't in the existence of nutjobs like OBL. It's that it amplifies the uspport they receive.
Let's compare OBL to Wesley A Swift, the white supremacist that founded the church of Jesus Christ Christian. This guy was militant (not a millionaire but let's pass over that inconvenient point) who sought to overthrow the U.S. because it was allowing untermenschen to oppress whites.
The guy bled followers, and eventually ahd only a few tens of pathetic losers following him. Why? Because most people looked at what he was peddling and concluded that he was a loon.
But what would have happened had he had a point? If the crazy fantasies he promoted were backed up by the experience of the people hearing his message? He would have had thoudands, perhaps millions of followers.
And that would be blowback.
John posits that the best way to get an adversary to give up is to break his will. We who cringe at blowbacks argue that there are other, more effective things.
Most people have numerous things they are concerned about... feeding their families, banging the hot chick next door etc. And, those things sap the will to fight far more thoroughly - on an industrial scale - than a fear that a hellfire missile will come through the door tomorrow.
Most people have numerous things they are concerned about... feeding their families, banging the hot chick next door etc. And, those things sap the will to fight far more thoroughly - on an industrial scale - than a fear that a hellfire missile will come through the door tomorrow.
If those things sapped the will to fight, there would never be any wars. Somehow despite those things people manage to find the time and the will to kill each other by the millions.
Again, Libertarians live in a bubble where everyone in the world thinks and acts just like them.
And Sugar Free you are the exact opposite of Cytotixic. You want to pretend that we can someone make the whole thing go away. Well we can't. Even you admit not all of them are motivated by US actions. What about them? They will still be out there no matter what we do? What are you going to do about that.
And stop confusing the drone war with blowback. The drone war may be wrong. It may be immoral. But if it is, it is not because of blow back. You go from, "the drone war is wrong" to "every terrorist attack is the justified and expected result of the drone war". One does not follow the other and the first can be true without the second being true.
What about them? They will still be out there no matter what we do? What are you going to do about that.
When we* say defense, we mean defend ourselves and our country from any force that comes to do us harm.
When you say defense, you mean find out who is talking shit about you then go to their homes and kill them.
This is the heart of the problem. We say we should be using the military for defense using our definition. You hear defense and either assume your definition or assume that we want foreign armies here blowing us up before we'll then fight back.
*All uses of we in this comment refer to me and other who feel the same way I do and is in no way to be taken to mean everyone who isn't John.
Is the US at war with Pakistan? If not, why not? If so, why isn't the military over there taking care of the problem properly? There is no way that even the combined might of Afghanistan and Pakistan is anywhere close to the might of the US. Why has the military decided to do a half-ass job?
If the US doesn't need to be at war with Pakistan and/or Afghanistan, who should the war be against? Is terrorism sufficient? Would that grant the US the necessary rights to go into any Middle East country to conduct its war? If so, why isn't the military doing that? If all that is necessary is to kill all the people who hold a grudge, why isn't that being done? Are you going to pull out some tired excuse about how we're not fighting conventional forces and that those forces choose to hide among civilian populations? Why does that matter? Is the US military not capable of marching enough troops in to root out all the evil guys that are plotting our downfall?
Those are interesting questions Sparky. But none of them have anything to do with the crackpot theory of blow back. I could answer them for you. But I have answered every one of them numerous times on here. And I am frankly growing weary of giving international law lessons to people who are too stupid or too bull headed to learn anything.
I don't think I've ever seen you once answer why the US military isn't on the ground marching through the Middle East rooting out terrorists so they'll stop attacking. That's all it takes, after all. Seriously, all that's needed is to either completely demolish all of their shit then leave or just take over their countries.
Because we don't have the resources to do that and since terrorists hide in the civilian populations, it wouldn't work.
Because we don't have the resources to do that and since terrorists hide in the civilian populations, it wouldn't work.
I call bullshit. If the US is under direct threat from these terrorists then we should have the right to bring the full might of the military to bear as well as receive all kinds of UN backing.
Because when we figure out where they are, we just arrest them or drone strike them. We don't have to invade. That is pretty much what we are doing and what you guys are complaining about.
Because when we figure out where they are, we just arrest them or drone strike them. We don't have to invade.
And that's clearly not fucking cutting it. All the arrests and drone strikes haven't cut back one tiny bit on the "bad guys" talking shit about the US. Apparently the only solution left is one with a little more finality (wink).
And I am frankly growing weary of giving international law lessons to people who are too stupid or too bull headed to learn anything.
Irony isn't fatal, it appears.
More to the point, a substantial faction of the Saudi Royal Family supported Al Queda substantially.
Al Queda was the merger of two groups: a faction of the Moslem Brotherhood that sought to overthrow the Mubarak regime, and a well connected and wealth Wahabbist movement seeking to seize control of the Saudi throne or move it in a more xenophobic direction.
This war of attrition is exactly what they wanted, and I am darkly amused that we who keep pointing out the futility of the current strategy using historical examples of how the interventions are nearly always counterproductive is considered utopian and unrealistic.
I mean even in my Goldwater Conservative days, I recognized that employing the strategy that the enemy wanted us to employ was not the way to win a war. Then again, maybe that was the side of me informed by seeing the shit up close and personal in Turkey as a kid.
This war of attrition is exactly what they wanted,
Of all of the stupid lies you people tell yourselves, that is probably the dumbest one. The last thing they wanted was a war of attrition. We have a lot more people than they do. The whole point of asymmetric warfare is to avoid a war of attrition and use a few people to do great damage. We have lost 10,000 people out of a million person army. Meanwhile, almost their entire leadership and any number of highly valuable assets have been killed or locked up. They had no idea we were going to come at them the way we did when they pulled off 9-11. OBL thought we would go home and stop supporting the Saudis. That was the whole strong horse weak horse thing he was always talking about.
They wanted us to come hunt them down and kill them. That is just fucking laughable. You people are funnier than Shreek.
John, the United States government is running out of resources and is on the verge of financial collapse - with its military expenditures being a significant part of the problem, with its economic development being strangled with homelandsecurity regs contributing significantly to the problem, and you think that doesn't constitute a war of attrition?
Here's an example: when Doeniz was plotting his strategy, the number of sailors his subs killed was the furthest thing from his mind: he was worried about how many tons of displacement he was sending to the bottom, because that was what was required...
John, the United States government is running out of resources and is on the verge of financial collapse
And the war has nothing to do with that. That is another fantasy you people tell yourselves. The entire war in Iraq cost less than the 09 stimulus. We have a government that collects over a trillion dollars a year in taxes. We could fight forever if wanted to. But we can't pay out medicare and Social Security and bail out every failing banks no matter what.
Police use flash-bang grenades and bust down the door of a 68-year old Indiana woman to serve a warrant.
The alleged crime? Threatening posts on the internet were made from their WiFi address.
FTA (emphasis mine): After the incident, Bolin told the Courier & Press that police had definitely traced the posts back to an Internet address associated with the house and had no way of knowing if they were made from within. Police noted at the time that the threats mentioned using guns and explosives.
Speaking generally, he said that anytime special teams or SWAT personnel are needed, police have to act in a way that ensures officer safety.
"We don't have a crystal ball. We don't know what is going to happen. We have to to act as if it is going to be a serious threat," Bolin said.
This cocksucker ought to be strung up by his entrails from the nearest lamppost to discourage this kind of fucking bullshit.
If killing you is what is necessary to ensure even the smallest advance in officer safety, oh well.
look, they have their very own Tulpa in the comments:
Holy fuck, that sounds just like him. That kinda makes me want to cry.
Authoritards gotta tard. Their position is stupid and I'm not surprised there is little variety in stating it.
Sigh.
Again?
Hey John, the Richard III DNA results are released on Monday at 10 am UK time
Thanks. The body they found? I bet it is him.
Will forensic evidence point to Edmund Blackadder as his killer?
Baldric, rather.
Baldrick, huh? Hah! I knew that show was not historically accurate! I just knew it!
The Wyoming County district attorney Jeffrey Mitchell now says police officers forced their way into this home in the Lake Winola area last November, trying to pick up a man wanted for mental health reasons for threatening to kill his wife.
Numerous officers from several departments were helping Overfield Township police on the scene. The D.A. says two of the officers broke down a bedroom door, fell to the floor, and that's when Brian Williams went after them with a fire poker.
Remember, children; you have no right to self defense when your home is invaded by armed thugs, as long as they have magic badges. And this is true whether or not you even know they have those magic badges.
"A justified shoot is a justified shoot." (no points for guessing who said this)

Saint Louis Police Internal Affairs recommends terminating officer for beating the shit out of a handcuffed man.
The incident, which was caught on video, shows officers choking the handcuffed man to the point of unconsciousness and beating him with a baton. The DA said they will not press charges against the officers.
The DA said they will not press charges against the officers.
There is no double standard, none.
hth
I've overheard cops bantering after a few beers, and it seems that choking people is one of their favorite parts of the job. The moment when the person goes limp gives them wood. The only thing more fun than choking people or having them piss themselves in terror because they have a gun to their head is pulling the trigger.
police had definitely traced the posts back to an Internet address associated with the house and had no way of knowing if they were made from within.
Conclusions were reached.
shows officers choking the handcuffed man to the point of unconsciousness and beating him with a baton.
Beating unconscious suspects is just solid OFFICER SAFETY procedure.
Nothing to see here.
Well, when you have to handcuff 7-year old kids, you just never know when an adult might spring back to conciousness and hurt you, even with his hands cuffed behind his back.
We don't have a crystal ball. We don't know what is going to happen.

Let me get my surprised face. It turns out Obama really doesn't go shooting.
(Reuters) - Arab-American groups have sharply criticized a Coca-Cola Super Bowl ad depicting an Arab walking through the desert with a camel, and one group said it would ask the beverage giant to change it before CBS airs the game on Sunday before an expected audience of more than 100 million U.S. viewers.
http://www.reuters.com/article.....3T20130131
But Arabs really do come from the desert and really do own camels, at least the ones who still live in the desert do. By this standard showing an English guy living in a large country home or a Scottish guy hearing sheep, is the Racist!!! Even making a factual observation about an ethnic group is now the Racist!!
Even making a factual observation about an ethnic group is now the Racist!!
"Now"? Been that way for along time. Hell, discussing racial issues pertaining to a race other than yours is usually "racist" and also has been for a fairly long time.
It's OK to discuss racial issues as long as you are not white. Blacks and Hispanics can make fun of each other, but whites may not make fun of anyone of another race.
OK, I'm going to make my last post one of forgiveness and redemption. A story of second chances, if you will. A cop that leveled his gun at other cops in a 2009 standoff will keep his job with the department after receiving 5 years of probation.
FTA: A chase on Colorado Highway 83 ended in Franktown when authorities put spike strips on the road, disabling Day's Toyota pickup.
Rather than submit to arrest, Day took swigs from a bottle of vodka and drew his service pistol ? sometimes pointing the weapon at officers and sometimes placing the barrel against his temple and in his mouth.
A Douglas County sheriff's sniper testified at a pre-trial hearing that he had Day in his rifle sights and was twice ready to pull the trigger ? but Day lowered his pistol.
The standoff was defused when Day was hit with several nonlethal rounds from a shotgun and brought to the ground by a police dog.
(cont.)
Also FTA: Authorities were pursuing Day after a colleague reported that he called an estranged girlfriend and racked a pistol into the phone as part of a pattern of harassment and menacing behavior.
In a restraining order filed after the episode, the woman said Day's behavior had grown increasingly erratic in the weeks preceding his threats.
Day pleaded guilty to three misdemeanors: prohibited use of a weapon, resisting arrest and telephonic harassment.
In exchange, Douglas County prosecutors dropped all remaining counts, including felony menacing, drunken driving and vehicular eluding.
Now I just know that a "civilian" would have been treated the same by the officers as well as the D.A., wouldn't they? Or would they have been summarily executed in their doorway or ran off the road and shot in the ditch the moment they pulled out a gun?
What. The. Fuck.
They drop drunken driving charges in high speed chases all of the time. That fucking DA needs to be shot.
Prosecutors never give peasants the opportunity to plea away a felony. Maybe to a lesser felony, but not to a misdemeanor. I mean, it is their sworn duty to strip peasants of their right to armed defense and their right to vote. That's their job.
He is not actually a cop anymore. He is a "security technician" whatever that is. The outragous part is this
Facing trial this month in Douglas County on felony menacing charges, 46-year-old Jerald Day instead pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to three misdemeanors and was sentenced to five years' probation.
Cops really are above the law.
He may not be a cop anymore, but he's still working for the department and fucking the taxpayers out of $39k a year (before he gets $20k worth of OT is my guess). One day, he'll retire and draw a fat pension paid for by the taxpayers, who would have been executed if they did the same thing he did.
He shouldn't have any job except making license plates or working at the prison laundry. The fact that he didn't go to prison is what is so damned infuriating.

A kindergartner at Alice Drive Elementary in Sumter has been expelled from school for bringing a toy gun to class.
She will be assigned a home-based instructor from the school district. The Sumter School District says they take any potential threat very seriously and will remain vigilant in creating a safe and secure environment.
http://www.wltx.com/news/artic.....-to-School
If you are in Sumner, SC and you want to home school your kid but don't have the time or money. No problem just send them to school with a toy gun and the school district will home school them for you.
This is a case where civil disobedience would work. Every kid in that school ought to show up with a toy gun tomorrow. What are they going to do? Expel them all?
"The school needed me down there that my daughter was fixing to be expelled," he says. "I got in the car and rushed down there and when I got in there the principal told me that she had a gun at school and she pulls it out and it is a little clear plastic gun."
Defense Distributed's CAD collection has nothing on this little gunsmith genius! A clear plastic gun!? How'd she solve the stress and heat problems?
Imagine the commercial applications of such polymer in the manufacture of auto and airline engines. She's going to be filthy rich.
This is of course the only plausible explanation as no school district bureaucrat could be fucking stupid enough to expel a kindergartener for a clear plastic toy.
For fuck's sake. How can a toy gun possibly be a "potential threat?" I guess back in my day, I would have been expelled for trying to take over the school with my Lego army.
