Congressman Henry Waxman to Introduce New Carbon Rationing Bill
At least that's the rumor. Hot on the heels of President Barack Obama's promise in his second inaugural speech on Monday to "respond to the threat of climate change," Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) are evidently going to introduce a new version of the cap-and-trade scheme (Waxman-Markey) that passed in the House of Representatives in 2009, but which failed to get through the Senate.
The folks over at the free-market oriented American Energy Alliance are preemptively responding. Thomas Pyle, head of the AEA sneered in press release:
"The president had much to say about climate change in his inaugural speech this week. And while his Press Secretary made clear that the administration's efforts in this area will largely bypass Congress, Henry Waxman deserves some degree of commendation for his persistence, however out of touch he is with the real problems facing everyday Americans. The American Energy Alliance looks forward to reviewing the latest installment in the failed cap-and-trade saga, now ostensibly known as Waxman-Whitehouse. And like any effort to increase the cost of energy for American consumers -- whether legislative, executive, or regulatory -- we will be prepared to fight, though I suspect this effort will have one of the shortest shelf lives of any legislative proposal in modern history."
For an analysis of the earlier Waxman scheme, see my column, "Cap-and-Trade Delusions." Will follow up once the new bill is unveiled.

In Waxman's defense, his species (mole men) are very CO2 intolerant. So he does have a personal interest in this.
+100 internetz. I lol'd
In a related note, is there a less photogenic creature in Congress? Seriously he looks like he was not only beaten with an ugly stick but fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.
Are you serious? Are you serious?
That skeleton thing that shows up at DNC wymins photo ops. Wow is she ugly.
I always thought that Waxman was from Ferenginar. Am I wrong?
A socialist Ferengi?
Why do you think he was exiled?
The Republicans should counter with a nostril-rationing bill. Take that, Henry!
Congressman Henry Waxman to Introduce-

I've got an idea to get the economy going: Make energy more expensive!
That will make everything more expensive! When everything costs more money, people will buy fewer things! This will create jobs and prosperity for all!
/liberal "logic"
But it will make green jobs and green jobs is the future it's science!
TEH SYENSE IZ SETTELD!!!!
Almost.
When everything gets more expensive, that means consuming the same amount will require spending more money, so GDP will go up and the magic of aggregate demand will drive growth!

How is it possible to be a Congressman and not know what the drinking age is?
I wonder what his IQ is?
I wonder what his IQ is?
Somewhere between a rock and a jar of moldy mayonaisse.
I've pretty much despised Henry Waxman since the time I watched Waco: The Rules of Engagement. They showed footage of him from those hearing, and his praise for the FBI's actions there ensured that I'll hate him forever.
One argument I often hear these carbon hawks make is that we must take a leadership role. Spain has been trying to be a leader and they're catching up to Greece.
I thought we were though with this crap. Nothing like more regulations to doom businesses.
This silliness would go away very quickly, if everyone who advocates for green energy actually had to live with 100% solar/wind (no non-green backups) as their sole source of energy for about a month.

Make ya wanna ax 'em, "why u mad, bro?"
I'll gladly take Waxman's ration of carbon - I'm sure he'll want to lead the way, right? So I'll take his ration. Thanks, Henry!
What a stunned cunt. Way to go - again - Cali.
Please introduce as many untenable idiotic bills as you can dems. The cloud of delusion and stupidity will be so thick that nothing actually happens. Best we can hope for.
In describing the original Waxman-Markey bill, George Will had to break from his usually impecable grammer:
Emphasis mine.
I dunno. Fracking's dropped our emissions back to 1992 levels. A few more natgas fields plus a good plague to get that 420 million down to 200 million and we'll be sitting pretty.
We could probably get back to pre-industrial levels of per capita CO2 emissions if we went to an all-electric, all-nuclear energy economy.
Somehow, I don't see that happening, althought its not the worst idea.
Is there any idea bad enough and/ or stupid enough for these shitheels not to jump on their hobby horse and try to ride run over the rest of us? Seriously, first gun control and now this. Apparently the dems have decided to make people remember why they suck so much.
Given the choice between simple, transparent, & difficult to game and complex, opaque, & ripe for corruption, Waxman reliably chooses the latter.
At any rate, this won't pass the House unless they throw in enough loopholes to render the bill meaningless.
If the House passes this, no matter how loophole-ridden, I hope the Republican Party meets its doom just as surely as if it passes gun control.
Behold, the Underminer!
I'm always beneath you, but nothing is beneath me!
I hereby declare war on peace and happiness! Soon, all will tremble before me!
+100 Internets, sir!
dat nose.
It gives the impression is going to jump out of the picture and... touch you...
Shivers...
Here's what I think they are up to:
The cap-and-trade proposal is a sacrificial lamb, to prep the battlefield. It will be followed by a more "practical" and "fiscally responsible" carbon tax that will be touted for its deficit-reduction effect. Naturally, the opportunities for graft and rent-seeking will be undiminshed.
Since the Carbon Cult punted "global warming" for squishy ambiguity of "climate change" the fools now are out to...stop climate change? The phrase is as nonsensical as their kooky Venusian-hell-next-Thursday video-game prophecies.
