Camden, NJ Police Layoff Approved
Entire police force being eliminated
In a cut-and-dried proceeding Camden City Council members this morning approved a plan to lay off the city's entire police force as part of a long-anticipated transition to a county-run police force.
The layoff of the department's approximately 270 officers is a necessary step in the planned conversion to a 400-officer county department that will take over policing the crime-plagued city. The layoffs are anticipated to take effect on April 30.
