Steven Greenhut on Civic Duty vs. Cynicism
H.L. Mencken once said that "Government is a broker in pillage, and every election is a sort of advance auction in stolen goods." That helps explain why so many politicians end up being so disappointing. It's much easier being effective as a pillager than as someone who wants to halt the auction. Will election 2012 be any different? As voting day approaches, Steven Greenhut explains why his sense of deep cynicism, born from years of reporting on government venality and stupidity, is colliding with his sense of civic duty.
