Snoopy Fusion Centers Under Fire, Obama Video Surfaces, NYPD Pressed Over Photo Busts: P.M. Links
-
"Fusion Centers" run by the Department of Homeland Security have been blowing huge amounts of cash while gathering sensitive data on … well … everybody, says a Senate report. They also distribute BS scare stories.
- A 2007 video has a pre-presidential Barack Obama claiming that Hurricane Katrina victims received less-than-excellent federal assistance because of racism.
- US Ambassador Christopher Stevens had a friendly relationship with many Benghazi residents. Now, if only he'd had some protection from the lunatics who wanted him dead.
- Chicago's ethics board hasn't found a single case of wrongdoing by aldermen in its existence, even though 20 of them have been convicted of felonies. So weep for the members not, now that Mayor Rahm Emanuel fired them all.
- Many physicians catering to the affluent are fleeing not just government health programs, but even private insurance. They gain the ability to offer care unfettered by red tape and cost controls.
- Press photographers would like to know, pretty please, why the NYPD keeps arresting them.
- Under public pressure and facing a referendum on the issue, the Los Angeles city council rescinded its ban on medical marijuana dispensaries.

Chicago's ethics board hasn't found a single case of wrongdoing by aldermen in its existence...
Windy City ethics exist on an entirely different plane of existence.
It's very simple: aldermen can do no wrong.
Yes, and apparently that plane of existence is unattainable by mortals.
"You trying to tell me Jesus Christ can't hit a curve ball get elected to the Chicago Board of Alderman?"
I have a feeling that "wrongdoing by aldermen" relates more to failure to let the right people dip their beaks, etc.
Press photographers would like to know, pretty please, why the NYPD keeps arresting them.
Because you keep stealing the coppers' souls. And you gather photographic evidence.
Also, fuck you, that's why.
The ultimate answer to this problem is so simple there is no chance it will not be tried. All officers will wear balaclavas and no nametags.
A 2007 video has a pre-presidential Barack Obama claiming that Hurricane Katrina victims received less-than-excellent federal assistance because of racism.
What he failed and fails to realize, unfortunately, that the federal government does everything less-than-excellently and it has nothing to do with race.
Oh, I'm pretty sure at this point he know that that the federal government does everything less-than-excellently. He's jes not gonna, ya know, articulate it.
It's racist to receive "less-than-excellent" (whatever the fuck that means) federal assistance. It's also racist to talk about the Obama Phone video. But it is not racist to insinuate that giving your money to the Swiss for safekeeping is sinister and unAmerican. No sir-ee bob.
It's also not sexist to claim that all Republicans hate women and will steal their girl parts.
"I'm pretty sure at this point he know"
Just had to use Ebonics didn't you. Racist!
Press photographers would like to know, pretty please, why the NYPD keeps arresting them.
Let me be the first to tell you:
Fuck you. That's why.
Damn you!
Check out the first link. It's very meta.
So what you're saying is that there is a Counter-terrorism unit, or a "CTU" we'll call it, that runs "24" hours a day, that blows alot of money on questionable tactics?
Where have I heard this before?
A forensic chemist in the Massachusetts State Laboratory Institute has been arrested on charges of falsifying instrument calibrations, forgery, and intentionally contaminating samples, among other charges. Thousands of convictions stand in question. The former President of the Massachusetts Bar Association says, "I don't think this is going to end with a single chemist...this is an ever-expanding spider web and I don't know where the end is going to lie."
Watch for the Massachusetts prosecution community to go into full scapegoat mode. Someone needs to make sure the perverse incentives that lead to this kind of fraud do not go unreported, and that ethical breaches by prosecutors and police looking for convictions at all costs do not go unpunished.
http://cen.acs.org/articles/90.....andal.html
Deliciously, there is a recent SCOTUS opinion saying that criminal defendants have the right to cross-examine lab techs and the like who do the forensic work.
Someone needs to make sure
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Many physicians catering to the affluent are fleeing not just government health programs, but even private insurance.
First private schools and now this? TWO AMERICAS!

TEH DOCTOR SHOW LOOPHOLE
Doctors kill more people than guns every year.
THE DOCTOR INDUSTRY IS THEO LY INSUDRY THAT HAS NO REGULATIONS
COMMON SENSE DOCTOR REGULATION NOW
Doctors: evil exploiters of the sick, or evilest exploiters of the sick?
All doctors should be bound and chained in the service of the people's glorious revolution!
No medicine for profit! Healthcare is a right!
Moron Tony believes this.
He'll believe this in short order if he doesn't already.
You can never put enough manpower (personpower?) on a project, you insensitive prick.
As are the people here. This has more to do with the way Medical Associations have been able to manipulate the licensing and education processes to artificially restrict the supply of practioners and as a result inflate the cost of services. But criticizing rent-seeking would suggest some businessmen are not Galtian supermen with motives as pure as the driven snow, so all the Team Red types just fall back on lazy OMG OBAMA slogans.
I've been treated by some very shitty doctors. A 2000+ page new massive welfare entitlement is not the way to get deal with shitty doctors. Also - FYI, rent seeking is often discussed here.
Agreed, but it's also not the sole source of every single problem in the medical industry the way a lot of the commenters like to claim.
Agreed, but it's also not the sole source of every single problem in the medical industry the way a lot of the commenters like to claim.
I think there are very few people here who claim that Obamacare is singlehandedly the cause for our bureaucratic healthcare fuck-up. Many would trace the roots back to the employer-based health insurance plans and the birth of Medicare. Please don't generalize when you do it poorly.
Sole source? Government interference is the sole source of almost every single problem in the medical industry. The market would address and fix every single one, left unfettered.
Yes, but the doctors are the authors and beneficiaries of a lot of that government interference. I'm sure there was a lot of annoying paperwork in the gulags too; that doesn't mean we should feel sorry for the guards.
Doctors (most of whom don't even support the AMA, the main rent-seeking lobbyist for their profession) are gulag guards? Are you trying to take the shitty, over-the-top analogy crown from Tulpa?
I think only about 974 pages long, but it depends on which pdf you open.

Yup, health care is just spewing out this document.
Those comments are salty ham tear gold. Salty ham tear gold I tells ya!
It is true, physicians are not public servants, but there is an expectation, fair or not, that they are held to a higher standard, one that is not dependent on a patient's ability to pay.
So it is disingenuous to suggest that they want to be a concierge doctor because they will provide more attention and better care. Pure and simple, they want to be a concierge doctor because they believe they will make more money that way.
A good doctor is clinically competent, appropriately empathetic and money is not their driving force.
These fuckfaces regulate the shit out of the medical sector and then attack attack attack when the doctors opt out. I. LOVE. IT.
I'm so glad this guy is the arbiter of what makes a good doctor. When I had my heel reconstructed, I definitely shouldn't have gone with the rich, in-it-for-money surgeon who was also the foot specialist for the NY Giants, and who did a fantastic job. I should have found a more empathetic and less skilled doctor instead.
I should have found a more empathetic and less skilled doctor instead.
You mean the guy that worked for the New York Jets?
No one appreciates how empathetic Dr. Vinnie Boombatz is.
Really? I heard he's not very respectful.
It's true. BP went to see Dr. Boombatz. He said "Doctor, every morning when I get up and look in the mirror, I feel like throwing up. What's wrong with me?" Dr. Boombatz said "I don't know, but your eyesight is perfect."
My favorite part is the "fair or unfair". IT is a polite way of saying "fuck you that is why". What a fucking a moron.
It is hilarious. It is also completely pathetic and unfortunately totally lost on them that less healthcare for those least able to afford it is the result of thier socialistic policies.
The effects of price controls should be drilled at an early age. Maybe 7th grade home ec.
It is true, physicians are not public servants, but there is an expectation, fair or not, that they are held to a higher standard, one that is not dependent on a patient's ability to pay.
So they say that, but police and teachers, who ARE public servants, are held to LOWER standards?
So it is disingenuous to suggest that they want to be a concierge doctor because they will provide more attention and better care. Pure and simple, they want to be a concierge doctor because they believe they will make more money that way.
Right. Why, just look at these outrageous prices!!!

How long will the People allow this grossly exploitative practice to last?
Obama family 'costs taxpayers $1.4BILLION per year'.

We should probably be glad it's only that much and not more.
They might not be so tight in a 2nd term.
They will have more flexibility in a second term.
LET US EAT CAKE
And worth EVERY PENNY!
You can't expect them to not go on fancy European vacations with a bunch of friends and security staff, can you?
What's the comparison to previous Presidents?
Less than Bush.
Does it matter?
Its still too much, by an order of magnitude.
No, it doesn't matter other than to try to figure out how much money has been wasted over the years on this. IMHO, the prez should be on the hook personally for all his expenses except when traveling. Make it just like an ordinary joe who travels frequently for business. Keep AF1 but downsize it to a CRJ100. Make him pay a Netjets stlye fee for personal travel...a 1st class ticket doesn't begin to cover it.
If you have to, raise the Presidential salary to cover it for people who don't start off wealthy (are there any of thos presidents anymore?)
The articles aren't complaining about how much presidents spend, they're complaining about how much Obama spends. If it's an ongoing problem, then they look like partisan hacks who don't really care about reducing the spending, they just see a convenient issue for the election.
How much did previous administrations cost? Given that none of the hyperventilating articles on the subject say, I'm betting the Obama Whitehouse is in line or even below previous administrations and this is yet another case of Team Red acting like the world began on January 20, 2009. The only reference I can find
The only reference I can find suggests Obama has a significantly smaller entourage than Bush and roughly the same size as Clinton: http://www.factcheck.org/2011/.....president/
I've been calling for the dismantling of the imperial Presidential infrastructure since at least the FIRST Bush.
No way, dude. You clearly just hate Obummer and didn't care a bit when BusHitler did it!
A 2007 video has a pre-presidential Barack Obama claiming that Hurricane Katrina victims received less-than-excellent federal assistance because of racism.
And Blackwater collaborated with Halliburton to steer that storm surge right into New Orleans!
I see what you did there and it is definitely RACIST.
Since the band with the hot Swedish chick reminded me of them, here's the late, lamented Death.
I don't get it. This band doesn't have a hot Swedish chick as the frontmanwoman. You gypped us!
It has a New York Jew, though. That's just as good, right?
Only if it's Sarah Michelle Gellar or Michelle Trachtenberg, you twit.
Now, if only he'd had some protection from the lunatics who wanted him dead.
Lunatics like a fox.
I'm just going to come right out and say it:
Rahm Emanuel is not all bad.
I have personally always felt that the best thing that can happen to a Democratic executive, is to be put in charge of a bunch of other Democrats- especially during a budget crisis.
*looks over at Jerry Brown*
Nor is he fucking retarded.
Of course he's not bad. What is he, an Arab? He's not mopping floors.
Press photographers would like to know, pretty please, why the NYPD keeps arresting them.
Perhaps because press photographer are (I'll bet) the types of people who "Rah Rah" soda bans and nannys like Mayor Bloomberg?

Pro lib, I offered you the power to rain down destruction from the lunar surface, and you spurned it. This will not be forgotten.

Chicago's ethics board
What are three words one does not expect to be seen in close proximity, Alex?
(I suck at Jeopardy.)
(I suck at Jeopardy.)
I would like to know if any one of the people in power in Chicago thinks of the "broader constituency" on any day other than Election Day. That constituency doesn't fill wallets.
No one in power thinks about constituents as voters. They think of them as the ones paying the election bills, and those morons who vote for them as people to be pandered and lied to.
Who's really at fault? The liar or the moron who believes the liar and acts based on the lies?
Ultimately, the morons.
A 2007 video has a pre-presidential Barack Obama claiming that Hurricane Katrina victims received less-than-excellent federal assistance because of racism.
One can only assume that the fine folks at reason finally decided to cave-in to Team Red Whiners, Inc. Just remember this, what you've done is similar to giving in to the demands of terrorists. Now that you have carried out their wishes, there will be no end to the demands.
Maybe you were planning to post about it anyway, but when it comes after a full day of John's constant bitching about it I'm sure he'll feel vindicated in his assumption that he shamed you into it.
You know, when the boards get annoying you can do what I do and go do something else. Just sayin'.
Yeah, I know. And I did spend time actually working. The problem is, if you let them get the last word they think they won.
I hear ya, especially the ones that go back to a dead thread and post something...they no doubt get a great deal of smuggy glee by doing that.
the ones that go back to a dead thread and post something
Otherwise known as 'corpsefuckers'.
Because they know that people go read the dead threads just so they can be annoyed at long delays between the next to last and last comment? Hmm, I kind of see the appeal.
It's news. It would have been much more newsworthy in 2008 though. That it wasn't is why it is news now.
I did not realize coverage in the NY Times, Politico, CBS, NBC, Fox, Newbusters, the Atlantic, etc. in 2007 and 2008 counts as no coverage.
They covered a prepared speech text with clips. Not a transcript or tape of what was actually delivered.
The media was perofming its' most important function in a fre society:
GATEKEEPING
I haven't looked at the thread on Nick's post, does John jizz all over it?
It's covered, completely.
"Just remember this, what you've done is similar to giving in to the demands of terrorists. Now that you have carried out their wishes, there will be no end to the demands."
There are no terrorists, only victims of American Imperialism. What kind of fucking libertarian are you, anyway?
The kind of libertarian that isn't a libertarian. Sorry.
You're being sarcastic, right?
I don't think that's how it went down. They were busy with other shit, including prep for the real time tweet fest tonight, and eventually got around to mentioning it. Except for Tucille who was bribed to report on it with a bottle of some shitty licorice tasting liquor. Worst seven dollars I've ever spent and I have paid for marriage licenses.
I can't believe you sucked off that hobo for magic beans.
I can't tell if it's going to be brilliantly hilarious or a complete train wreck. My money's on the latter, but you never know.
I saw a commercial and it looked like train wreck. I can't think of the last time a movie that had a super-abundance of stars in it was any good, not since Cannonball Run II.
As long as we see Anna Faris getting pooped on, it will be worth the money.
DON'T TALK SHIT ABOUT ANNA FARIS
My favorite Anna Faris movie is this.
Call me a patriarchal oppressor, but for me, Anna Faris has a really high Bend Her Over a Desk and Make Her Numb factor.
How can you ignore this?
I didn't--that's choice number two--but go watch May and get back to me. It's seriously fucked up.
Yeah, that's what brought her BHOaDaMHN factor up to 9.99.
To do list:
Immediately find magic beans.
So, anyone have a drinking game for the debate tonight? I'm not looking to die (so "jobs" is out), just get tipsy enough that I don't care that one of the whackos on stage will be President next year.
You need a game?
If I give my alcoholism a pretext and end up drunk enough to vote for Obamney, I can write it off as a political donation on next year's taxes. QED
This year, if Obama mentions Osama, the commentariat must take a butt-chug.
No exceptions.
Might as well butt chug right now.
However much you drink, it won't change the fact that one of them is going to win. Drinking yourself to death may be the only way to ease that pain.
All this talk of drinking is making me feel othered. I demand equality for the gestating!!!
You're still doing that?
You're still doing that?
What else do you expect from a Sebacean?
Please post pics of Aeryn Sun if you're going to do that.
How long ago was that wedding, again?
It doesn't matter. Sloop is a baseball bat wielding astronaut hater, and Banjos is a redhead. The kid will be innumerate.
It won't be able to count?
Hey, I don't hate astronauts. I hate the USPS.
As long as the little tyke has a good swing like his dad, not a problem. Baseball will be dead in twenty years, but the Indians who are going to buy up the stadiums soon enough love a good game of cricket.
And hopefully she'll be hitting sixes one after the next.
Also, wouldn't women inherently be good bowlers with their naturally fucked up (read: gay British) throwing style?
Paging Jezebel -- libertard sexism at EVERYWHERE o'clock. Women are just as good at baseball/cricket as men!
What?! Did you explain how the women's good fundamentals make up for their inability to dunk?
A she then. Well, congratulations.
The last time I was at the bowling alley a few years ago, I was at the jukebox and felt someone rubbing up against my back. It was a cute seventeen year old girl barely aware of where she was rubbing her back against mine to scratch it. She was on the ecstasy. I didn't move for a while to see how long she would keep doing it. She suddenly peeked up at me, and asked me why I was playing country music. I was playing Soundgarden!
Whoa, whoa, whoa, I'm not a fucking ginger. My greasy wop genes made sure of that.
You just shattered one of my more beloved stereotypes. I was lead to believe all libertarian women are banjo playing gingers.
http://postimage.org/image/n2bhcqo4r/
That's what all libertarian women do at home. True story.
At least that one is still true.
NSFW
That depends on where you work, EB.
How long ago was that wedding, again?
Several months.
You're othering the fetus by refusing to drink and let it share the booze. And if you refuse to drink because you're afraid it'll cause birth defects, you're othering your future child by claiming it has less value if it isn't "normal".
THAT'S JUST WRONG, HATEMONGER. BOTTOMS UP.
All this talk of drinking is making me feel othered.
Yeah? Well these pretzels are making me thirsty!
Sweetie, you know that having a drink or two isn't going to do the slightest harm to R C Jr baby sloopster, right?
Pedialyte Shots!
I've had to drink pretty much the entire afternoon due to allergies, but even without that excuse I don't see why I should stop at any point in the next 34 days.
Your allergic to sobriety?
Hey, I think I am, too!
Absofuckinglutely! Sobriety has done about as much for me as my feelings have done for me over the years, nothing.
I wonder if the dipshit now wish they'd done a better job covering the abuse when it was just the little people getting harassed for recording public events.
It didn't matter until they started getting the little people treatment.
Barack and Michelle Obama share their wedding annniversary with millions of people on Twitter.

Like something on Facebook, go directly to jail
You might want to think twice the next time you Like those Facebook pictures of your cousin's new baby or retweet something funny from your friends ? especially if you live in the Philippines. According to the new Cybercrime Prevention Act, you can go to jail if you participate in cybersex, identity theft, hacking, spamming, pornography, and yes, even social media in the Philippines.
The new law, signed into effect on September 12 by President Benigno Aquino III, is vague in its explanation of what online libel even means. "Who is liable? It isn't clear. The one who made the original post? The ones who share? The ones who tweet? Even you, if you post a simple, 'hehehe,' right? Does that mean you agree?" Filipino Senator Teofisto Guingona III said.
Of course, this law has caused quite a protest among the 35 million Filipino social media users. Hackers have sent an ironic message by defacing government websites while other lawmakers are penning petitions to stop the law. Currently, there is no sign that the government intends to start a repeal.

The Evolution of the Bond girl
-----------
Yum.
My personal favorite--and with by far the best name--was Plenty O'Toole from Diamonds are Forever.
As you could probably tell, I like the redhead.
I love redheads too, but I'll take a busty brunette anyday.
34DD, chestnut hair, ocean-blue eyes?
Barbara Bach in The Spy Who Loved Me was another good one.
Acting wise, it's a tie between Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg for best Bond Girl.
I'm pretty sure on my pick there -- Honor Blackman. But that's probably because I also prefer her TA to Rigg's.
Well she did manage to portray her character's lesbianism as subtly as possible for a movie of that era.
And incidentally, she is the only Bond Girl to be older than the actor playing Bond, in thise case she was five years older than Connery.
Blonds aren't really my type, but it was all downhill from Ursula Andress.
But Sophie Marceau best Bond gurl evr! Ur just a bitter old tiemer!
Why would any casting director think Denise Richards would be a good Bond girl? She's not specatcularly beautiful and she can't act worth a shit.
Any ideas for the next Bond girl?
Hey, Pierce got Famke Jannssen as a Bond girl/Bond villain. That makes up for less quality picks in other movies.
And choosing Eva Green for Casino Royale was fantastic.
Eva Green was amazing, if you read the novel she really was a great Vesper. And she looked incredible in that black dress during the poker scenes.
And I think the Skyfall Bond girl is either Berenice Marlohe or Naomie Harris.
I think they should make Miley Cyrus a Bond girl just to troll the shit out of all the hardcore Flemming fans who bitch about every change in style.
Candice Swanepoel. I doubt she can act, but she has the body of a goddess and could easily be the Ursula Andress of the 21st century.
Scarlett Johansson -- if they can digitally alter her voice. I'd pay for that, too.
Re: Res Publica Americana,
And her brain, too, while they're at it.
She'd be acting, so they can skip the brain, Mex.
You know how some of George Clooney's characters make him look intelligent? That's because someone wrote his lines for him. If they can do it for Clooney, Scarlett should be a walk in the park.
Why would any casting director think Denise Richards would be a good Bond girl? She's not specatcularly beautiful and she can't act worth a shit.
Honestly, if they weren't going to have her show her tits, casting her was pointless.
I'm going to have to second this. Any man who would object to be straddled by Sophie Marceau is clearly a homosexual (NTTAWWT).
Finally! NBA to penalize flopping.
Good move by the league, it was only a matter of time before it becomes like soccer.
''I'm all on board for it,'' Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. ''I think it needs to be addressed. I think the steps they're taking right now, I think will benefit the game. I do. It remains to be seen if it truly has an impact. But I think it's a step in the right direction.
''It's not good for the game; nobody likes the flop. A majority of coaches don't like the flop, particularly if you're trying to build a solid defense.''
This is like Pete Rose saying that gambling in baseball needs to be addressed.

Secret Service turns off the tap on agents' boozing
the party's over.
The Secret Service, after running into trouble for agents' bawdy behavior, is going on booze control -- putting out guidance telling agents that drinking on assignment is prohibited within 10 hours of reporting for duty and is effectively outlawed on-site once an official visit begins.
The new directive comes in the wake of the Colombia prostitution scandal that rocked the Secret Service earlier this year. Those rules have now been officially added to the agency's Human Resources and Training Manual, after the following email -- which was obtained by FoxNews.com -- went out:
"Alcohol may only be consumed in moderate amounts while off-duty on a TDY assignment and alcohol use is prohibited within 10 hours of reporting for duty. Alcohol may not be consumed at the protectee hotel once the protective visit has begun. See Human Resources and Training Manual, section PER-05(05), Miscellaneous Standards."

California mom jailed for kids' truancy
A California mom was sentenced to 180 days in jail after she pleaded guilty to allowing her kids to miss more than 10 percent of the of the school last year , KMPH.com reported.
Lorraine Cuevas, 34, is one of the first parents in the state to be convicted under the state's chronic truancy law, the report said.
"We take attendance very seriously, and we want our kids to be in school," Tim Bowers, the superintendent for Kings County Schools, said.
Bowers said Cuevas ignored phone calls and letters warning her about the possible consequences. He told the station, on average, the school will make 15 to 20 calls before it takes action.

They didn't. That's why San Francisco smells like shit.
I thought that was because the low-flow toilet mandate in SF reduced the total primary sewage flow below the amount required to keep the lines flushed properly, causing blockages.

If Romney does okay, expect to hear that "he didn't do what he needed to do to stop the president's momentum . . ."
If Obama does okay, expect to hear how "once again at a high-stakes moment, Barack Obama came through with a dazzling performance that would have reduced Cicero himself to abject stammering . . ."
If Obama trips and falls flat on his face, expect to hear about the "wonderfully elegant way he picked himself up . . ."
Which one will Reason choose?
John, are you insinuating that our fair and impartial watchdog media is in the bag for the incumbent?!
How. Dare. You.

The most hilarious press conference in history
You're not living right if you've never had to defend your honor with "I ain't no fag and I ain't never ass chugged a bag o wine."
Why do frat boys do such gay stuff?
They take "Greek life" too literally?
Afghan senators want 'friendship' axed from France pact
I have no comment.
Why the hell, exactly, did we expend a single round of ammunition for these fucks? Ever.
Because the world would frown on killing them all.
Because they refused to give up Bin Laden for SEAL Team Six justice. And rather than do the smart, imperialist thing and seize all of the opium for our own benefit, we attempted to civilize the natives.
At some point we will grow tired of trying to civilize them and go home. And if they ever attack us again, I suspect after that they will wish we would have gone back to trying to civilize them.
It honestly wouldn't surprise me if a future administration just nuked the damn place after a second major provocation.
If we go home, which we will in the next couple of years, and they pull another 9-11, which they might, what alternative will we have? We won't do nothing. And we won't go back in and try to civilize the place again.
Are they familiar with the nuclear arsenal of the United States?
Trident II, meet Islamofascist. Islamofascist, Trident II. Bye-bye now.
If we had nuked them after 9-11, there would have been no Iraq. Saddam would have rolled over and done anything we wanted. So would have Iran or anyone else for that matter. And we wouldn't have lost a single life.
Just something to think about.
There didn't have to be an Iraq in any scenario! And I doubt Saddam steps down in any case. Why would he give a shit if his people got nuked because of it? And yeah, let's nuke Iran so they don't get a nuke that they could hypothetically possibly use against us! I seriously hope you're saying this for effect, because if you truly believe that, that is some fucked up shit. If that's US policy, foreigners have every right to do whatever it takes to bring down the US government.
Why do they need to be in the border region of Afghanistan or Pakistan to pull off a terror attack? By it's very nature terrorism can be plotted or done pretty much anywhere. Our army being over there doesn't prevent a terror cell from attacking us. If the next attack comes from a terror cell in say, Germany, should we nuke them John? If not, why not?
To be fair, John was listing countries, not terrorist organizations.
Either way, no, I wouldn't considering nuking a country an appropriate response. I'm mostly blowing off steam.
*consider
Calidissident,
If Germany let said terror cell train and then refused to arrest or turn over the leaders of the cell, yes. But of course that would never happen because Germany would never do that. If you can't see the difference between a terror group acting illegally in your territory and a country that sponsors and gives shelter, like Afghanistan did, then you are just stupid or trolling or both.
And having an entire country at your disposal with no worries about cops or the government makes planning a lot easier.
It does but not to the extent you make it out. Let's not forget that the 9/11 hijackers lived in America. It's not like there wasn't any planning or preparation done right here. The fact is that much of the globe, central governments just don't have control over much of the territory. And that by itself is not even a bad thing. You're essentially saying we should make every other country into a centralized police state or get nuked. In places like Afghanistan, Somalia, etc that's not even feasible. And why the fuck should people doing nothing wrong have to pay the price for their neighbor being an asshole and their government being corrupt or weak? And if you don't think the rest of the Muslim world would have a problem with that, and that certain people wouldn't retaliate you are naive beyond belief. What then? Nuke every country with a large Muslim population, and round up and execute Muslims here and in Europe?
It's pretty hard to give up a guy in ISI custody, ain't it?
Re: Res Publica Americana,
Because the women did not know the pleasure of compulsory public education, Res! Something had to be done!!
Oh, and something about giving assylum to some guy. But it was mainly about feminism, you see.
All jokes aside, I contend that these people aren't worth a single round of ammunition.
Buying a single round of ammunition for our mission there should be considered a criminal misappropriation of funds.
In fact, we should pretend they don't exist, because acknowledging that I share a genome with them is really, gut-wrenchingly disgusting.
In the irony of ironies, outside of Palestinians, the closest genetic relatives to Jews are Pashtuns, who are some of the strongest contenders for a "lost tribe of Israel".
the closest genetic relatives to Jews are Pashtuns
Do you have a cite for this? Pashtuns group with other Central Asians in the PCA plots I've seen.
Right. And for whatever reason, many Jewish men (be they Sephardic, Ashkenzai, or Mizrahi) have descent from Haplogroup G .
giving assylum to some guy,
nice.
