Tropical Storm Leslie Slamming Canada

Made landfall in Newfoundland

Power lines failed, trees toppled, schools closed and officials urged drivers to stay off highways as tropical storm Leslie struck Newfoundland this morning.

Winds as high as 132 km/h helped take out power in much of the Avalon Peninsula, including the St. John's area. There were numerous reports of downed power lines, snapped utility poles and broken trees.
