Brickbat: Sofa King Low
Sofa King, a British furniture store, has advertised that its prices are "Sofa King Low" for almost a decade now. But the Advertising Standards Authority has recently warned the store that phrase is "likely to cause serious or widespread offense." The company's slogan was investigated by police in 2004, but the investigation did not result in any charges.

Sofa King What?
Sofa King Low. Did you not read the article we Todd?
Yes. Hence my pun. Try to keep up
I read the BBC article twice before getting it. I needs moar coffee.
Nope, just a dirtier mind.
Or a British accent?
I tried and it sounded like "Soba Luddy Low." Does that make sense??
Only if you're a wanker.
who isn't?
Customer: Do you sell Sealy mattresses?
Salesman: Oh no, we only sell sensible mattresses.
O! My! F-ing! God!
Took more than coffee for me to finally get it. Had to say it out loud with a lame british accent. Sofa King Ridiculous.
Wercome to Shitty Wok, can I take a order prease?
Ha ha ha. You say...funny t'ing.
I eat rice and drive rearry srow just like you! I not a stereotype!
yes yes, all very funny, but who's going to stop those goddamned Mongolians?
LACIST!
Arise, Chicken!
I'm glad this happened in the UK. If it happened in the US, we'd never hear the end of "We sophisticated Europeans would never react as those benighted Yanks did."
By the way, I'm planning on opening a Japanese restaurant right across from the Advertising Standards Authority. I'm planning on calling it Fukyu. Who's in with me?
Open next to this place.

You can probably count the number of people who are offended by this on one hand. I find the words "Advertising Standards Authority " more offensive than "Sofa King Low".
What's next? Will they make Dick Hertz change his name?
Yes, right after they deal with Mike Hunt.
What am I, chopped liver?
Seymour Butts says, "Yes, you are."
This is stupid. Even if their slogan actually were "so fucking low", there still is no reason to disallow that, as long as their prices actually are somewhat low, rather than sky high.
The Brits had better bloody well block this YouTube video.
So. Fa. King. Low. So. Fa. King. Low. Sofa. King. Low. Sofa. Kinglow. Sofa. King...grrrrrr
Nope, I still don't get it...
So Fu (c)King Low
This ain't no couch. This ain't no sofa. It's a Loooove Seat! Ooooohhhh yeah!
Anyone who ever watched The State on MTV in the 90s will get that.
I thought Yao Ming was doing endorsements for them in Houston!
Honestly the marketing prospects here are brilliant...
"Our Prices aren't just low, they're Sofa King Low"
"Come on down to Sofa King, where the prices are so low, you'll leave feeling that Sofa King High"
"Sofa King, where the deals are Sofa King good you'll keep coming back for more"
And while I'm certain there is a small segment of society who will be offended by such double entendre's they are entirely free to go shop at any other furnature store.
What it really sounds like is a petty bureaucrat on a power trip, or maybe extracting a little revenge for a bribe that went unpaid or the hot sales chick not taking him up on his offer to help him "break in his new sofa"
Sometimes you just have to throw your hands up in the air and shout, Whos your Daddy! lol.

Sing it!
A furniture store makes more sense... but I hear this stuff is pretty good:
Sauce
Reminds me of this video store that used to be in my hometown.
SNL had a Sofa King skit a few years ago. Pretty much all the same jokes that Rasilio mentioned above. I think Fred Armisen was in it.
