Oh man, if only Anonymous had hacked a more revealing conference call in which they describe what those agencies really think of our rights.

Epi I have been on those calls. Trust me. The word rights never comes up. It is not that the disregard rights. It is that the term never occurs to them.

They are saying on CNN that Haley Barbour pardoned some connected good old boy in jail for DUI manslaughter after his 4th DUI. What a tub of shit.

    1. John   13 years ago

And the victim was some beautiful teenager. Can her family just shoot Barbour and be done with it?

WSJ: Real US corporate tax rate falls to 12.1% in 2011.

Don't expect Fox News or other conservative to acknowledge this.

    1. leveled   13 years ago

      still much too high.

Don't expect shriek the lying liberal who pretends he isn't to admit it.

    2. JEP   13 years ago

At the end of the day, individuals pay ALL taxes.

I'm not a fan of corporations or anything, but when they are taxed, they just pass it onto the people who buy their products/services.

If you're mad at corporations, you need to find another way to express your anger.

      1. shrike   13 years ago

I am not the least bit mad at corporations. I am mad at liars who falsely talk up our tax rate to 35%. Almost no one pays that.

        1. The truth   13 years ago

          "I am mad at liars"

So you're angry at yourself for lying about being a liberal?

        2. Fluffy   13 years ago

          Fuck that shit.

If I go out and form a C-corp right now and make some income and don't have a staff of accountants and lawyers to hide my earnings in green energy bullshit, what rate will I pay?

That's the "real" corporate tax rate.

          1. shrike   13 years ago

So you need a "staff" of accountants and lawyers to depreciate capex in a single year as last year's law allowed? Or to take advantage of NOL extensions?

If you start a C-corp and don't know that you deserve to lose your ass.

            1. Blappo   13 years ago

"So you need a "staff" of accountants and lawyers to depreciate capex in a single year as last year's law allowed? Or to take advantage of NOL extensions?"

"For most, Valentine's Day is a hallmark holiday, dedicated to expressions of love and companionship between partners. One advocacy group has chosen the day as a backdrop for boycotting a renowned coffee chain and its decision to allow customers to carry sidearms."

"The National Gun Victims Action Council (NGAC), a network of 14 million members endorsed by 89 peace and religious fellowships, called on its supporters to stop buying Starbucks products starting on Feb. 14, until the open gun policy is changed." ...

Las Vegas (CNN) -- Most of the remaining Republican presidential candidates spent Friday barnstorming across Nevada -- one day before that state's critical first-in-the-West presidential caucuses.

A days worth of outrage and shrieking over Komen, and it's become clear to me that abortion is more sacred to liberals than I previously realized. I have talked to many liberal friends today, and I still can't pin down the source of the Susan G. Komen outrage, other than abortion. It doesn't matter that Planned Parenthood doesn't actually perform abortions, they are still the symbol of abortion for both sides of the issue, and a slight to Planned Parenthood is a slight to the sacred feminist sacrament.

    1. SIV   13 years ago

      Eugenics

    2. Fluffy   13 years ago

If it wasn't for abortion Komen wouldn't have cut ties with PP in the first place, so the perception goes both ways.

      1. Brandybuck   13 years ago

I'm listening for the howls of outrage that SGK has restored its funding to PP... Okay, I hear some low murmers over the cricket chirping. But nothing compared to the soul-rending wails that came from the left.

Yes, I know it was all about abortion. But I have still never seen this amount of collective outrage before. It's like the Koben's zombie was raping their kittens or something.

    3. Paul   13 years ago

I have talked to many liberal friends today, and I still can't pin down the source of the Susan G. Komen outrage, other than abortion

It's worse than that. The money the Komen foundation donated to Planned Parenthood was for breast exams, not abortion screenings or anything like that. Breast exams. Komen withdrew the funding because many planned parenthood sights didn't have the breast exam equipment, and therefore were not carrying out the Komen mission.

But liberals unzipped their fly on this one. They're tacitly admitting that the Komen foundation funds may find their way into the abortion pipeline, so Komen's removal of funding was a defacto removal of abortion funding, QED.

    4. nicole   13 years ago

Also, PP does perform abortions, at least at some outlets.

The U.S. and Israel have a "significant analytic difference" over estimates of how close Iran is to shielding its nuclear program from attack, Aaron David Miller, a former Mideast peace negotiator in the Clinton administration, said today.

"There's a growing concern -- more than a concern -- that the Israelis, in order to protect themselves, might launch a strike without approval, warning or even foreknowledge," he said in an interview.

Doing so successfully will suggest Ron Paul's policy toward the region can work. Perhaps they don't need us at all.

The officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Don't you know that officer safety is the most important issue in America today? It's more important that your rights and certainly more important than your life.

As a matter of fact, the police should just summarily execute you for being a suspect. It will ensure their safety in every situation.

Professor Frank Furedi, the author of Wasted: Why Education Isn't Educating, said: "This shows the loss of adult authority. Teachers feel confused about how to gain the respect of four-year-olds and instead of exercising discipline opt for the easy option of expulsion."

Given the choice between letting teachers use a little corporal punishment on their spawn or having to deal with having the little brats at home all day, I would think parents would go for the former.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg: "I Would Not Look to the US Constitution"

        FTFY.

        1. Eduard van Haalen   13 years ago

She should have said: "You can have our constitution because, thanks to people like me, we aren't using it anymore."

    2. robc   13 years ago

I was in St Maarten shortly after its independence in 2010 (its still in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but independent from the Antilles now). There new constitution was printed one day in the newspaper. I brought it home. It was long...really wishy washy on certain rights (much more so than the US Constitution) and way to detailed. Like some of the crappy state constitutions.

There were lots of things like: The right to X is absolute, except as determined by the congress.

What the Fuck kind of right is that?

      1. .   13 years ago

Maybe it also established the right of assigning arbitrary meanings to words.

Once the flame goes out, we may never get it started again.

What hyperbolic tripe! The U.S. government is going to crater like its predecessor even if Obama packs the court full of flaming Marxists.

The trend is towards freedom. Yes, short-term the government seems to be diminishing freedom - but they are broke and sowing the seeds of their own destruction.

"When transporting a firearm in a manner other than in a vehicle, it must be unloaded, inside a locked container, and separate from any ammunition."

Meaning the best place to hold someone up and steal their firearm would be outside a shooting range. All law abiding people exiting the firing range and heading to their car will have their guns unloaded, inside a locked container and separate from ammunition.

      1. RoboCain   13 years ago

Right, all of this entire series is what she had go through just to buy a handgun. Although, I don't even know if DC has a public range. In order to actually shoot it, she'll probably have to go somewhere outside DC, such as VA (where people can get a CCW).

"West Virginia legislators have given the Parkersburg South High School mascot hope of a reprieve from a ban on guns on school property.

The Senate Education committee advanced a bill Thursday to exempt the school's Patriot mascot from the gun restrictions."

My high school mascot was a grenadier.

I don't think it's been changed yet, but I also don't pay the slightest bit of attention to anything related to the school ever.

This is a good kabuki dance. Israel says it wants to attack Iran. Obama says no. Israel does any way with a wink and a nod from Obama. Iran takes the bait and attacks US forces in the middle east. Obama gets to claim the war is self defense. Suck it peaceniks.

    1. DJF   13 years ago

Don't you mean "suck it USA" since it means that the US will get into another war directly costing billions of dollars and probably US lives and indirectly much more with unstable oil prices.

      1. Cytotoxic   13 years ago

Some people here seem to really want this to be so but nope America would kick Iran's ass all up and down.

European human-rights bodies want Armenia to give conscientious objectors (mainly Jehovah's Witnesses) an exemption from the military conscription law.

Minister of Justice says he's working on legislation to meet European objections.

Ha ha, foreign countries sure deny religious freedom, don't they?

    Here's a good one:

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg talks to Egyptian TV, calls US Constitution "rather old constitution." To Egyptians considering making their own constitution, she says: "I would not look to the US Constitution if I were drafting a Constitution in the year 2012."

    More fake outrage:

    http://jezebel.com/5881430/dont-call-me-babe

    The money line?

I am suggesting, however, that language changes over time

    Unstated:

"Dammit, just because noone ever says anything offensive to me, doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to act offended."

    1. nicole   13 years ago

(As we were discussing last night,) language does change over time...and the only thing that would disturb me about someone calling me "babe" was that they were calling me babe?do people still use that word with a straight face?

      1. Coeus   13 years ago

I do occasionally. But it doesn't really sound so cheesy and '80s when done through my strong hick accent. Usually, though, it's just used in text form. Guys get called dude.

And language changing over time is a piss poor excuse to keep finding new things to get offended over.

      2. 0x90   13 years ago

It's been my experience that women are always tacking on a superfluous 'hun' or 'babe' in casual conversation with me. It's never been in my parlance to do that with them, and actually, I don't think I've ever observed any other guy do it either. I've never given it much thought, but I suppose it is probably just more a regional/cultural thing.

      3. kinnath   13 years ago

America's Middle East policy needs to be one where we just stay away from all those religious fanatics. People have been fighting over this region since before recorded history and no amount of butting in on America's part is going to change that. If Israel and the Muslim States want to kill each other, LET THEM!!!!

Was there ever a slut standard?

"I was sleeping with up to seven men a day and even now I can't go more than 24 hours without sex.

About three months after my surgery I went to a swingers' party and had sex with ten different men."
