RedState's Erick Erickson Pledges to Take Out Conservatives Who Support SOPA
Republican kingmaker Erick Erickson has written an incredible piece on the Stop Online Piracy Act, in which he promises to fund a primary challenge to Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-LaLa Land) solely for being the kind of incomprehensible hypocrite who opposes net neutrality and then supports something equally as bad, if not worse:
I love Marsha Blackburn. She is a delightful lady and a solidly conservative member of Congress.
And I am pledging right now that I will do everything in my power to defeat her in her 2012 re-election bid.
I wonder if the left feels that way about Debbie Wasserman Schultz?
Both Marsha Blackburn and Debbie Wasserman Schults, the head of the Democratic National Committee and a Congresswoman from Florida, are cosponsors of the Stop Online Piracy Act.
The Act intends to stop online piracy. The way the Act goes about doing this is, in large part, allowing Eric Holder to take control of the internet and shut down websites he does not like. It is a totalitarian response from a bipartisan coalition of Congresscritters most of whom admit they have no freaking idea how the internet even works. Don't believe me?
In a committee hearing on SOPA, co-sponsor Mel Watts (D-NC) was really open about itsaying, "I'm not a nerd" before proceeding to admit he understood nothing about the law, how the internet worked, or pretty much anything else related to it.
The legislation originated with Congressman Lamar Smith (R-TX). As Neil Stevens explained in detail here the legislation will wreck terrible havoc on the internet. There is an alternative called the OPEN Act, which stands for Online Protection & ENforcement of Digital Trade Act. The OPEN Act accomplishes what SOPA intends to accomplish without handing Eric Holder the power to shut down websites that make him unhappy. Another big difference is that SOPA is backed by rich men in Hollywood and the OPEN Act is backed by people who actually use the internet and know how it works.
Erickson even offers to do some coalition-building:
A fund should be created and the left should go out and find candidates to take on the Democrat sponsors. The right should go out and find candidates to take on the Republican sponsors. Heck, maybe Act Blue would let us on the right come by and we can all use their pre-existing platform (a platform no one on the right has even been able to really compete with. Seriously, I'm a big admirer).
The money should then be used to fund the primary challenges against the incumbent sponsors of SOPA. Let the right vet and direct the funding on the right so no one thinks the left is trying to pick the challenger and vice-versa on the left.
This might mean some allies are taken out. It might mean we take out Marsha Blackburn on the right and Debbie Wasserman Schultz on the left.
But sometimes a fight is that important. Killing SOPA is that important. Letting the Attorney General of the United States shut down the internet as he wants, whether it be Eric Holder or a future John Ashcroft, should scare the mess out of every American.

You gonna wake up in time to do the Morning Links Riggs? I mean AM. None of this shit at 11:15 when all decent people are doing their last minute Christmas shopping and stuffing the celery with cream cheese.
That's nice but I'm not going to give that fuckhead a single page view.
Brocken clock.
Why does Marsha Want Congress to Regulate the Internet? Why not just say NO FEDERAL branch (the FCC and congress and the federal courts included) has any authority to decide or rule on any aspect concerning the Internet?
BUT Marsha Blackburn did Vote FOR: Patriot Act Reauthorization, Electronic Surveillance, Funding the REAL ID Act (National ID), Foreign Intelligence Surveillance, Thought Crimes "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, Warrantless Searches, Employee Verification Program, Body Imaging Screening, Patriot Act extension; and only NOW she is worried about free speech, privacy, and government take over of the internet?
Marsha Blackburn is my Congressman.
See her "blatantly unconstitutional" votes at :

B-but conservatives are all about family values and freedom. Sean Hannity told me so.
It's always Marsha!
Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!
OK, I liked that.
Weasals all.
The republican party must be destroyed.
The primary challenge. The only thing the congressman fears.
Yup. That's how the Tea Party got all its influence. Before it became a watered down sell out, of course.
I think its more the caee that the people who were elected as "Tea Party" candidates have turned out to be watered down sellouts. With exception of Rand Paul, but that's only because he actually believes in that limited government stuff as opposed to paying lip service to get elected.
it's hardly all of them and they're not sellouts; they are more beaten down, realizing that DC is even more fucked up than they initially thought. Then again, this is the same group that led Bachmann appoint herself chair of its caucus.
What about Justin Amash?
Working for a campaign spending paltry sums in an ultimately futile attempt to win an R primary was interesting - there's nothing that makes you feel as powerful as knowing you're forcing an incumbent to raise and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars (this was back in the 90s, before state-level campaigns were multi-million dollar affairs).
Yeah. I bet even making one of those rat bastards sweet a little is worth it. You were doing God's work Australian.
Don't drop the SOPA!
Go fuck yourself Pat Leahy
Marsha is actually from Tennessee, not Florida. SOPA is bad, but I'm guessing the Nashville music industry has talked her into supporting it.
Please do not *ever* refer to that fuckwad Erikson as a "republican kingmaker." That once or twice a year he gets something right is no reason to excuse not only his, but his associates (moderators) contemptable behaviour at RS.
Thankfully, it looks fairly certain that RS is in the process of imploding and good people everywhere can only rejoice the day the domain is delisted.
I guess someone got banned.
Jesus, thank you. I cringe whenever Reason sucks up to one of these theocratic right-wing cob-knobblers because they happen to take a libertarian position out of stark-naked self-interest. (See: Chuck Baldwin)
Can he pick on someone less hot? I don't know many 60 year olds, ok, well she's 59 who look like that. Let's keep her around
